Welcome to Day 1722 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomA Hero – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps. We are on Day 1722 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. We are on a daily trek to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on today's trek as we increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A16&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:16) How much better to get wisdom than gold, and sound judgment than silver!    If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Christopher Reeve, and it is: A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles. A Hero When we think of a hero, it is usually a person who has some extraordinary talents and abilities, but that is not a true hero. Instead, those individuals who perform heroic acts are very ordinary persons who value other people's lives over their own. Because of their view that all life is precious when they face the overwhelming obstacles of life. Their mindset and worldview are such that when there is a call to action, they are mentally and emotionally prepared to take on challenges that might ordinarily frighten them. They are the people who will jump into a lake to rescue a drowning child. They are willing to approach a burning vehicle to drag out a victim that is trapped.  They are the health care workers of the past couple of years who found the strength to persevere and endure despite overwhelming obstacles. They are the grandparents who pray for their children and grandchildren that God would keep, protect, and watch over them each day. Let us look around and honor those everyday heroes. Also, be willing to be a hero yourself. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm%2016%3A3&version=NLT (Psalm 16:3) The godly people in the land are my true heroes! I take pleasure in them! As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' Maxwell, and it is: A good leader is a person who takes a little more than his share of the blame and a little less than his share of the credit. Blame and Credit You can usually spot a good leader both in a time of crisis and success. For example, when plans are not going well, or the team has missed its mark, a good leader will step up and take the lion's share of the responsibility and blame for the poor performance. On the other hand, when a team succeeds abundantly and is being showered with praise, a good leader will allow that spotlight to shine on those who excelled and were directly responsible for the overall success. A good leader does not need to hog the glory because they are confident in themselves and the team's ability. Poor leaders constantly attempt to blame others when the team does not succeed and then try to take the glory when the team succeeds.  Of course, because of poor leadership, a team is less likely to succeed, which turns to a downward cycle of failure and defeat. On the contrary, a great leader will instill a sense of victory within the group, and the team will succeed much more often than the times they fail. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians%202%3A3&version=NLT (Philippians 2:3) Don't be selfish; don't try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. A Clear Vision I have known and continue to see individuals who lack the confidence and personal power to succeed in various areas of life. This lack of confidence, many times, will be the result of lacking a clear vision of what a person desires in life. If there is no vision, then there can be no definitive plans made for the future. It requires both. Vision without a plan is just a hallucination. You may see the vision, but it will never become a reality unless you design a plan and take action. On the other hand, a plan without a vision is just drudgery. But a vision with a plan that is then put into action can change the world. To put it in a slightly different light, action without thought is impulsiveness. Thought without action is procrastination. When impulsiveness is unwanted, the message seems to be this: think – that is, reflect at a deeper level – before acting. The opposite of strategic thinking might be mindlessness. Once you have confidence and power, you will be successful in whatever areas of life you desire. When others see confidence in you, they are willing to trust and follow you, giving you the power to carry on and make a positive impact on others for God's kingdom. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2016%3A3&version=NLT (Proverbs 16:3) Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2020%3A18&version=NLT (Proverbs 20:18) Plans succeed through good counsel; don't go to war without wise advice. While Paul and Silas were obeying the command to "Go," the Holy Spirit told them to Stop! Go, preach the gospel everywhere - but not here, not just yet. That's one of the notable things we'll get out of Acts 16, today. It must be that God has a strategy. There's nothing unplanned in heaven, even though we may not know what those plans are. The Jerusalem Council had made its decision. Now, how would the people in the pews receive it? Some unauthorized teachers and Pharisees - who else? - had tried to put the church under the Law. But the dustup had been resolved. The Gentiles' freedom in Christ had been preserved... with some stipulations. Let's learn what these were, and how both Jews and Gentiles liked the outcome. We are on Day 1639 of our Trek, and it's time to explore another nugget of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become more healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from Jeff Bezos, and it is: A brand for a company is like a reputation for a person. You earn a reputation by trying to do hard things well. Your Reputation Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, and one of the wealthiest people on earth, certainly knows how important a company brand is. His analogy is undoubtedly correct. What a brand is to a company, your reputation is your brand as a person. Just as a company brand is not created overnight, a good reputation is built over years of living a good and godly life. A life lived with honesty, integrity, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. A good reputation should be sought after, but it does not come easy.  According to God's Word, living a life without hypocrisy, doing what is right, requires perseverance, focus, dedication, and an intense desire to live well. It is doing the hard things well. For Amazon, before they became the giant company that touches nearly everyone's life in some manner, they started out selling books online and lost money for many years. Amazon continued with a vision to do the hard things well, and now their brand is pervasive throughout the world. So it is with us, if we desire to have a worldwide impact with a good reputation for God's kingdom, we must be willing to live in a manner where we sacrifice the quick and easy, for doing the hard things well. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs+3%3A3-6&version=NLT ( Proverbs 3:3-6) Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation. Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.  https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Proverbs%2022%3A1&version=NLT (Proverbs 22:1) Choose a good reputation over great riches; being held in high esteem is better than silver or gold. Welcome to Day 1555 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomBegin Again Every Day – Daily WisdomWelcome to Wisdom-Trek with Gramps! Wisdom is the final frontier in gaining true knowledge. Our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, seek out discernment and insights, and boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; this is Gramps. Thanks for coming along on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Today is Day 1555 of our Trek, and it's time for another snippet of wisdom, which includes an inspirational quote along with some wise words from Gramps for today's trek. If you apply the words you hear today, over time, it will help you become healthy, wealthy, and wise as you continue your daily trek of life. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from  C. S. Lewis, and it is:  Relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done.     Begin Again Every Day Our reliance on God is so fleeting. Some days when we have nowhere else to turn, we are forced to turn to God and rely on Him. On other days, we feel so self-reliant that we dismiss God entirely from our lives. In our hearts, we think that we are self-made when, in reality, we must come to the recognition that each breath that we take is a gift from God. Just like God's mercies to us are afresh each day, so must our reliance on God be. As we rise each day, we must acknowledge that in view of eternity, our life is like the morning fog; it's here a little while, then it's gone. Until we have that type of mindset and reliance on God, we will continually struggle with each day of life with its ebbs and flows like the ocean tide. So let us today, and every day, rely solely on God, who by His divine power has given us everything we need for living a godly life. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Peter+1%3A3-9&version=NLT (2 Peter 1:3-9) By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence.  And because of his glory and excellence, he has given us great and precious promises. These are the promises that enable you to share his divine nature and escape the world's corruption caused by human desires. In view of all this, make every effort to respond to God's promises. Supplement your faith with a generous provision of moral excellence, and moral excellence with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with patient endurance, and patient endurance with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love for everyone. The more you grow like this, the more productive and useful you will be in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But those who fail to develop in this way are shortsighted or blind, forgetting that they have been cleansed from their old sins. As you ponder this nugget of wisdom for yourself, please encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' If you would like to listen to any of our past 1554 treks or read the Wisdom Journal, they are available at Wisdom-Trek.com. I encourage you to subscribe to Wisdom-Trek on your favorite podcast player so that each day's trek will be downloaded automatically. Thank you for allowing me to be your guide, mentor, and most importantly, I am your friend as I serve you through this Wisdom-Trek podcast and journal each day. As we take this Trek of life together, let us always: Live Abundantly (Fully) Love Unconditionally Listen Intentionally Learn Continuously Lend to others Generously Lead with Integrity Leave a Living Legacy Each Day I am Guthrie...

January 3, 2021 | Pastor Nathan Elms On average, we have tens of thousands of thoughts a day, but we don’t register most of them. We tend to ignore the most repetitive, persistent thoughts, such as the ones that take us through our morning grooming ritual or our daily commute. What we do is so driven by habit that we don’t have to think ourselves through every step. To feel how this works, try brushing your teeth with your nondominant hand. Odd, right? In the same manner that we do not think about habitual actions... we have habitual thoughts, that we think about WITHOUT THINKING about it. • The thoughts you think WITHOUT thinking are who you are… • The thoughts you intentionally think are who you want to become... • We can think just like unbelievers… • We can respond to trouble just like unbelievers… • We can deal with pain just like unbelievers… In fact, re-forming how we think about things is one of the most important things about becoming a believer. 9 Biblical Truths 1. Mormon scriptures discussed in this video: Doctrine and Covenants 14:9 “Behold, I am Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, who created the heavens and the earth, a light which cannot be hid in darkness” D&C 38:1-3 “Thus saith the Lord your God, even Jesus Christ, the Great I Am, Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the same which looked upon the wide expanse of eternity, and all the seraphic hosts of heaven, before the world was made; 2 The same which knoweth all things, for all things are present before mine eyes; 3 I am the same which spake, and the world was made, and all things came by me.” Moses 1:29-33 “And he beheld many lands; and each land was called earth, and there were inhabitants on the face thereof. 30 And it came to pass that Moses called upon God, saying: Tell me, I pray thee, why these things are so, and by what thou madest them? 31 And behold, the glory of the Lord was upon Moses, so that Moses stood in the presence of God, and talked with him face to face. And the Lord God said unto Moses: For mine own purpose have I made these things. Here is wisdom and it remaineth in me. 32 And by the word of my power, have I created them, which is mine Only Begotten Son, who is full of grace and truth. 33 And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten.” Abraham 4:1-4 “And then the Lord said: Let us go down. And they went down at the beginning, and they, that is the Gods, organized and formed the heavens and the earth. 2 And the earth, after it was formed, was empty and desolate, because they had not formed anything but the earth; and darkness reigned upon the face of the deep, and the Spirit of the Gods was brooding upon the face of the waters. 3 And they (the Gods) said: Let there be light; and there was light. 4 And they (the Gods) comprehended the light, for it was bright; and they divided the light, or caused it to be divided, from the darkness.” Doctrine and Covenants 130:22 “The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.” Link to Doctrine and Covenants https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/dc-testament/title-page?lang=eng Link to Pearl of Great Price (which includes the book of Abraham and book of Moses) https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/scriptures/pgp?lang=eng Link to Bible verses discussed in this video https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+1%3A1-3+%2C+John+1%3A14%2C+Isaiah+9%3A6%2C+John+14%3A16-18%2C+1+John+5%3A7%2C+Acts+5%3A3-4%2C+Revelation+5%3A13%2C+John+17%3A3+%2C+John+20%3A17%2C+Ephesians+1%3A17%2C+1+Corinthians+15%3A27-28%2C+John+5%3A30%2C+Matthew+24%3A36%2C+James+1%3A13%2C+Hebrews+4%3A15%2C+Colossians+1%3A15-17%2C+&version=NIV John 1:1-3 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.” John 1:14 “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. Go instead to my brothers and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” Ephesians 1:17 “I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit[a] of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better.” 1 Corinthians 15:27-28 “For he “has put everything under his feet.” Now when it says that “everything” has been put under him, it is clear that this does not include God himself, who put everything under Christ. 28 When he has done this, then the Son himself will be made subject to him who put everything under him, so that God may be all in all.” John 5:30 By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me. November 15, 2020 | Pastor Nathan Elms Ancient man had every moment of their lives drenched in the sacred. Every day in the week is named after a mythic deity… They were held within the stories they told… We (all of us) live with a set of troubles, disappointments, suffering... We cannot be defined by our troubles... but by our promises... The moment we allow trouble to define us we cease being people of faith, and begin living by sight! It doesn’t matter what others see in you – what does God see? A. You’re not the person you used to be 2 Corinthians 5:17 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Corinthians+5%3A17&version=MSG B. You are the head, not the tail – Lender not the borrower Deuteronomy 28:13 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+28%3A13&version=MSG C. You’re beloved of God - The apple of His eye D. Chosen before the foundations of the earth E. Sought out and adopted into the beloved F. Sons and daughters of the Most High God G. Seated with Christ in Heavenly Places H. More than a conqueror through Christ I. Blessed with all spiritual blessing God has a big investment in you! You are going to make it through your trials and tests! A curator (from Latin: cura, meaning "to take care") How do you curate your soul? Romans 8:5 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Romans+8%3A5&version=MSG Matthew 15: 1-20 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Matthew+15%3A+1-20&version=MSG 1st Timothy 6:3-14 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Timothy+6%3A3-14&version=MSG Philippians 4:4-8 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Philippians+4%3A4-8+&version=MSG The problem with failing to care for the soul is not that you grow progressively weaker, although you may … it is not that the house falls down around you … it is that when the storm comes, the house collapses.

Welcome to Day 1510 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomLife Becomes Rich – Wisdom UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek! Where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend; I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1510 of our Trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today's trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from  Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and it is:   In ordinary life, we hardly realize that we receive a great deal more than we give, and that it is only with gratitude that life becomes rich. It is very easy to overestimate the importance of our own achievements in comparison with what we owe others.    Life Becomes Rich Personal satisfaction with your life is primarily based on your perspective of life. When we realize that we receive so much more than we ever give to others during the regular course of our ordinary life, we start to realize the blessing we have in life. Based on those blessings, we should have gratitude, and we will recognize that we do have a rich and satisfying life. Just like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so are the bountiful riches we have in life. It is so easy to have the mindset that what we do and how we live is so important, and with this, we overestimate our importance compared to others. The blessings and riches we have each day may seem miniscule and unimportant. Still, when they are viewed over the course of our lives, we can genuinely understand that life is wonderful, and we should have hearts filled with gratitude to God and other people that God has allowed to enrich our lives. We can live a rich and satisfying life each day if we choose to view life from the lens of gratitude.https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Peter+1%3A3-7&version=NLT (2 Peter 1:3-7) By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. That's a wrap for today's Wisdom Unplugged quote. If you would like free access to my database of over 11,000 inspirational quotes, the link is available on the main page of Wisdom-Trek.com. Just as you enjoy these nuggets of wisdom, encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' If you would like to listen to any of our past 1509 treks or read the Wisdom Journal, they are available at Wisdom-Trek.com. I encourage you to subscribe to Wisdom-Trek on your favorite podcast player so that each day's trek will be downloaded automatically. We don't like to think of ourselves as conformists. And we're pretty uniform in that opinion. Our study of The Righteousness of Jesus Christ is ultimately about our destiny to be conformed to the image of God's Son. But the idea of conformity makes us squirm a little bit. "We're individuals, not robots!" Well, good news: Our transformation into replicas of Christ won't erase our personal distinctions; it will connect us to a shared life - the life of God. Did you ever make a grape? No, me neither. I've eaten a grape, peeled a grape... maybe you've painted a grape. Or even tended the actual plants and cultivated their fruit. But you and I will never make a grape, no matter how hard we try. Only a living branch, connected to the vine, can do that. The gospel is not, "Be good;" but "Be-lieve," and "Be transformed." Jesus has many admirers, even today. Millions want to imitate His example. "What would Jesus do?" they ask. But Christianity isn't emulation - it's replication. If we think of righteousness as something we can work up, we're in trouble. Welcome to Day 1480 of our Wisdom-Trek, and thank you for joining me.This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to WisdomYou Can Do It – Wisdom UnpluggedWisdom - the final frontier to true knowledge. Welcome to Wisdom-Trek! Where our mission is to create a legacy of wisdom, to seek out discernment and insights, to boldly grow where few have chosen to grow before. Hello, my friend, I am Guthrie Chamberlain, your captain on our journey to increase Wisdom and Create a Living Legacy. Thank you for joining us today as we explore wisdom on our 2nd millennium of podcasts. This is Day 1480 of our Trek, and it is time for our 3-minute mini trek called Wisdom Unplugged. This short nugget of wisdom includes an inspirational quote with a little bit of additional content for today's trek. Consider this your vitamin supplement of wisdom for today. So let's jump right in with today's nugget: Today's quote is from  Charles G. Finney, and it is:  If God commands something, that is the highest evidence that we can do it.   You Can Do ItIt is so easy to make excuses for actions not taken, or decisions not made. It is easy to make excuses or blame someone else for failures in our lives. In most cases though, our excuses are quite pathetic and flimsy. In many cases, excuses are made for not completing something we can achieve; therefore, we are not fulfilling our God-given abilities. Achievement is especially true of God's precepts for living.  These precepts are already written in God's Word.  My next statement may sound controversial at first, but it is Biblically based. There are many situations or circumstances in life that you don't need to pray about. Most guidelines for living for God are already told to us in the pages of His Word. God has already given us everything we need to live a Godly life. You don't have to pray about them. That being said, ask yourself, why am I making excuses? If God commands us, he also equips us. Free yourself and your mindset from making excuses. Instead, speak words of affirmation which are based on God's Word. Based on the wisdom and truths available to us, I have something to tell you. Are you listening? Will you believe it when I tell you? Here is the secret: You Can Do It! https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2%20Peter%201%3A3&version=NLT (2 Peter 1:3) By his divine power, God has given us everything we need for living a godly life. We have received all of this by coming to know him, the one who called us to himself by means of his marvelous glory and excellence. That's a wrap for today's Wisdom Unplugged quote. If you would like free access to my database of over 11,000 inspirational quotes, the link is available on the main page of Wisdom-Trek.com. Just as you enjoy these nuggets of wisdom, encourage your friends and family to join us and then come along tomorrow for another day of ‘Wisdom-Trek, Creating a Legacy.' If you would like to listen to any of our past 1479 treks or read the Wisdom Journal, they are available at Wisdom-Trek.com. I encourage you to subscribe to Wisdom-Trek on your favorite podcast player so that each day's trek will be downloaded automatically. Not Physical Things Pt. 2

Real Science Radio's Bob Enyart and Fred Williams have fun listing the things, real things, that are not physical! No atheist can even attempt to argue against the reality of non-material things without using non-material things, such as ideas and reason. Like Einstein said, ideas are not physical. It turns out to be so simple, to disprove the claim that only the physical realm exists, for, ideas exist. On today's sequel the guys describe many laws that are not physical (like civil law, criminal law, social rules, house rules, etc.) but then they get into quite the discussion of whether or not the laws of physics are physical! (You may want to hear Part 1 first and then Part 3!) * Non-Material Things List: - Numbers are not physical. They are not made of matter and they're not made of energy. Numbers do not have temperature, density, color, mass, volume, shape, a melting point, hardness, odor, length, etc. - Math is not physical. - Information is not physical. - Grammar is not physical. - Logic is not physical. - Reason is not physical. - Ideas are not physical. - Language is not physical. - Science is not physical. - Morality is not physical. - Truth is not physical. - Souls are not physical. - Spirits are not physical. - Concepts are not physical. - Codes are not physical. - Loyalty is not physical. - Rage is not physical. - Love is not physical. - A Googol is not physical. - A Googolplex is not physical. Knowing where the truth leads, some atheists are afraid to acknowledge that numbers are not physical. In their fear, they throw a temper tantrum and insist that numbers, such as the number 3, are made of matter. So then, how about a googol? That is a 1 followed by a hundred zeroes, a quantity greater than the number of particles in the known universe. And a googolplex, 10 to the googol power, also cannot be made of matter because with that number also, that much matter doesn't exist. But even more emphatic than with a googol, with a googolplex, that number has far more digits than there are particles in the universe! So that number could not, of course, be physical because even its digits could not be physically represented for there are no where near that number of particles in existence.- The square root of negative one is not physical. The atheist, who is irrational, could be asked, "Are imaginary numbers, such as the square root of negative one, physical?" An imaginary number is a concept and as such, obviously, and like all concepts and all numbers, it is not made of matter. Yet scientists use imaginary numbers to better understand electric circuits and quantum mechanics. A strictly materialist big-bang universe though would be incapable of using an imaginary number, because imaginary numbers are not physical. Therefore, the square root of negative one reveals the intellect of the Creator because it was clearly used as a design element in the creation! When God designed the function of quantum mechanics, like our own designers, He conceived of optimal designs using immaterial concepts. He then implemented that design, in quantum mechanics, even though it utilized an imaginary number which has no parallel in the physical realm. See more including what Wigner and Einstein thought about such things, at rsr.org/math#sq-rt-neg-one. - Infinity is not physical. Yet it is real. Don't believe us? Then believe Vsauce... - Consciousness is not physical. The best an atheist can make of a physical explanation for consciousness comes from one of the world's leading mathematical physicists, Roger Penrose, who wrote of the brain that it somehow has harnessed, "details of a physics that is yet unknown to human physicists." Other atheists including Daniel Dennett and Jerry Coyne argue that consciousness is an illusion. Why? They intuitively recognize consciousness, that is, awareness, as evidence against their materialism and for non-physical reality. Ironically though, even if it were an illusion, an illusion, being a concept, is non-physical, so that they can't even argue against such reality, since arguments too are non-physical. - Genomes are not physical. They are information, that is, a genetic code, and can be losslessly copied onto different media; and while nothing physical can hitch a ride on a photon, a genome's information can be transported on fiber cable, for example at light speed, which is just another indication of its nonphysicality; etc.- Pain is not physical. Non-sentient plants feel no pain; brain surgeons operate with a local anesthetic for the skull but without anesthetizing the brain, for the brain is the organ that feels no pain, yet ironically, it is the only organ where pain is "felt"; emotional pain is far greater than physical pain, for example, the excruciating pain of childbirth can be overcome in hours whereas even years often minimally mitigate the emotional pain that comes from the loss of a child; for physical pain first must to be translated into to the non-physical realm of awareness before being "felt"; etc. - Your mind is not physical. Minor observations consistent with this include that when neurosurgeons magnetically or physically stimulate the part of the brain that causes a patient to lift an arm, and the patient says that while he is completely aware that his arm lifted, he is also aware that "he" is not the one who made the decision to lift his arm. Whether or not all (or even most of) the atoms in your brain are replaced over your lifetime, that does not replace you or your mind. - Laws of convention are not physical. For example, cultural rules like that it is best for married women to wear wedding rings, and social rules like the use of infrastructure (driving on the right side of the road), house rules (like calling the 8-ball, or landing on Free Parking to collect the fines demanded by Community Chest and Chance cards), etc., are not physical. - "Natural law" is not physical. Criminal laws and civil laws are not physical. Thou shall not murder, and that the party to a contract is obligated, these laws are not made of matter. Additionally, valid criminal laws, for example, are not invented but discovered. For by God's intention they inherently permeate the society that He brought into existence. Proper criminal laws need only for man to acknowledge them or easily discover them. Men should acknowledge them in God's special revelation through Scripture. Do not murder; Do not steal; Do not commit adultery; Do not bear false withness (due process); and Do not covet (going to motive in criminal trials). Or a man can easily discover these laws by listening to the conscience put within him through what theologians call God's general revelation. Realize too that it is only by the conscience God put within us that any of these laws could be described as "natural", for the natural law movement is really just conservative-leaning persons disinclined to acknolwedge the force of the revealed law, rightly divided, of Scripture. You may want to hear Part 2 and, coming Lord willing 8/14/20, Part 3. - The laws of physics are not physical. For like numbers and everything else that is not physical, the physical laws are not made of matter and they're not made of energy. The laws of physics do not have temperature, density, color, mass, volume, shape, a melting point, hardness, odor, length, etc. (For example, a law of physics might describe behavior of matter at zero degrees Kelvin, but it would be incorrect to state that the law itself was cold.) They do not posess kinetic, potential, thermal, elastic, chemical, or radiant energy. And as one consideration, quantum laws are probabilistic, and probability too is a concept and not physical. Further, many of the physical laws use time as a scalar quantity but is time physical? Time also appears to lack the properties of matter and the properties of energy. Time is not physical. And, time is uncreated. (That observation stresses many Christians who assume then that God would no longer be preeminent and that instead of the Lord, Time itself would be God. That's rather reactionary. Consider that the number 3 was not created, nor love, nor truth, nor reality. Yet just as with time, which eternally flows from God as His heartbeat, so to speak, none of these, numbers, love, truth, or reality, denigrate God. He is not subservient to the number 1. But as equal-opportunity stressers, we'd like to further stress out the materialists by pointing out that the space-time continuum is not physical. Or at least, if space itself is physical, the space-time continuum cannot be physical unless the non-physical can somehow interface to and affect the physical, just as the spirit is interfaced to the body somewhere within the human brain.) Thus whereas time is real, time is not physical. And yet, within physics and as used in the physical laws, time is a fundamental quantity. Thus for these and many other reasons, ironic as it is, the laws of physics themselves are not physical. - And God is not physical. And Materialists vs... Matter??? Perhaps, yes. So, how about matter itself? There still remains the very difficult question, "What is matter?" What if it turns out that matter is not physical? That is, would it matter if matter was not made of matter? Some scientists suspect that matter is information based, such that matter itself may not even be material. If so of course then, materialism is deader than a doorknob; it's less than a zero, after it's been erased. But that wouldn't even give most of them pause. They'd just become godless spiritualists. Consider though how leading physicists have wrestled with the fundamental nature of matter, and even whether it might be information based. Renowned physicist John Wheeler (1911-2008), a strong advocate of information theory, coined the terms "black hole" and "wormhole", collaborated with Einstein and Bohr, and advised graduate students Everett, Thorne, and Feynman. Wheeler described his career, and hence, his growing understanding of the universe, in three stages. First, "Everything is Particles." Second, "Everything is Fields." And finally, "Everything is Information." (To illustrate the uncertainty, see CIT's Sebens over at Aeon explains the raging uncertainty about whether electrons, etc., are actually particles or fields.) And over at BigThink in a 2017 article, The basis of the universe may not be energy or matter but information, they quote Wheeler's 1989 paper for the Santa Fe Institute: "every it--every particle, every field of force, even the space-time continuum itself--derives its function, its meaning, its very existence entirely--even if in some contexts indirectly--from the apparatus-elicited answers to yes-or-no questions, binary choices, bits." And Philip Perry at BigThink continues: There are lots of theories on what the basis of the universe is. Some physicists say its subatomic particles. Others believe its energy or even space-time. One of the more radical theories suggests that information is the most basic element of the cosmos. Although this line of thinking emanates from the mid-20th century, it seems to be enjoying a bit of a Renaissance among a sliver of prominent scientists today... If the nature of reality is in fact reducible to information itself, that implies a conscious mind on the receiving end, to interpret and comprehend it. There is much in quantum mechanics that supports that. And the scientific origin even of the (absurd) multiverse/many-worlds belief was exactly an effort to avoid the implied requirement of consciousness which appears to many brilliant minds to be at the heart of physics. (See rsr.org/mutliverse#princeton.) Of course though in his article, like in that excerpt, Perry skips the conscious Mind that would first be on the transmitting end. IBM's Phil Tetlow, writing of MIT, CIT, CMU's Edward Fredkin, sometimes Feynman collaborator, sometimes physics professor, quotes him saying, "I've come to the conclusion that the most concrete thing in the world is information" and as Wired puts it, Fredkin insisted that "everything we see and feel is information." Tim Malden's 2019 text on Quantum Theory published by Princeton discusses "quantum information theory" in which physical changes in a system can occur based on "what someone believes about the system." On the first page of his book he asks, "What is matter?" Malden answers his own question, "The best theory of matter presently available is quantum theory. Our main task is to understand just what quantum theory claims [yet] no consensus at all exists among physicists about how to understand quantum theory... Instead, there is raging controversy." Perhaps then science will finally arrive at the New Testament teaching in Hebrews 11:3 that "the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible" for "In the beginning was the Word, and... all things were made through Him" John 1:1-3. After all, God didn't generate, but He "said, 'Let there be light.'"

Morning Briefing from GuideStone Capital Management

After Wednesday’s close, the S&P 500 is up 3% in 2020 and just over 6% since the July 4th holiday weekend – what a run it has been. Both the Nasdaq and the Dow rose on Wednesday as well. As mentioned Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday… stimulus negotiations continued yesterday but still no deal. July employment data from ADP showed U.S. private payrolls rose by only 167,000 in July, much lower than the 1.2 million estimate. Gold prices have rallied 22% over two months. The raise has largely been driven by low interest rates, fear of inflation and weakness in the U.S. dollar. Today’s Key Questions - How much have stocks risen since the March 2020 low? - Are broad equity correlations breaking down? - Can the flight to gold last? Today’s Bible Verse – Jeremiah 32: 2-3 (NKJV) Thus says the LORD who made it, the LORD who formed it to establish it (the LORD is His name): “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” Subscribe to our newsletter https://www.guidestonefunds.com/Insights/Commentary/Article?item=c26cd591-c711-4cd3-b1d0-113e9522753a Bible resource – https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Jeremiah+32%3A2%2CJeremiah+32%3A3&version=NKJV

No atheist can argue against the reality of non-material things without using non-material things. It's like someone arguing that there's no such thing as oxygen, while breathing the whole time. It's almost like arguing that there's no such thing as arguing! For when a materialist argues that only the material realm is real, that only material things exist, he cannot do that without using immaterial things. For example, like Einstein said, ideas are not physical. It turns out to be so simple, to disprove the claim that only the physical realm exists for, ideas exist. So Bob Enyart and Fred Williams have fun presenting Real Science Radio's List of Things, Real Things, that are Not Physical, aka RSR's Materialists vs. Everything List!  * RSR's List of Things that are Not Physical: - Numbers are not physical. They're not made of matter and they're not made of energy. Regardless of how much we use them or how often, they never run out and they never run down. Numbers are without limit and do not have temperature, density, color, mass, volume, shape, a melting point, hardness, odor, length, etc. If so of course then, materialism is deader than a doorknob; it's less than a zero that's been erased. After all, God didn't generate, but He "said, 'Let there be light.'" You may want to hear Part 2 and the conclusion of this series, Part 3.

Hosea 1:2-3  (NRSV)The Family of Hosea2 When the Lord first spoke through Hosea, the Lord said to Hosea, “Go, take for yourself a wife of whoredom and have children of whoredom, for the land commits great whoredom by forsaking the Lord.” 3 So he went and took Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.Hosea 1:3-9  (NRSV)3 So he went and took Gomer daughter of Diblaim, and she conceived and bore him a son.4 And the Lord said to him, “Name him Jezreel;[a] for in a little while I will punish the house of Jehu for the blood of Jezreel, and I will put an end to the kingdom of the house of Israel. 5 On that day I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.”6 She conceived again and bore a daughter. Then the Lord said to him, “Name her Lo-ruhamah,[b] for I will no longer have pity on the house of Israel or forgive them. 7 But I will have pity on the house of Judah, and I will save them by the Lord their God; I will not save them by bow, or by sword, or by war, or by horses, or by horsemen.”8 When she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived and bore a son. 9 Then the Lord said, “Name him Lo-ammi,[c] for you are not my people and I am not your God.”[d]Hosea 3:1-3  (NRSV)Further Assurances of God’s Redeeming Love3 The Lord said to me again, “Go, love a woman who has a lover and is an adulteress, just as the Lord loves the people of Israel, though they turn to other gods and love raisin cakes.” 2 So I bought her for fifteen shekels of silver and a homer of barley and a measure of wine.[a] 3 And I said to her, “You must remain as mine for many days; you shall not play the whore, you shall not have intercourse with a man, nor I with you.”Hosea 2:16-23 (NRSV)16 On that day, says the Lord, you will call me, “My husband,” and no longer will you call me, “My Baal.”[a] 17 For I will remove the names of the Baals from her mouth, and they shall be mentioned by name no more. 18 I will make for you[b] a covenant on that day with the wild animals, the birds of the air, and the creeping things of the ground; and I will abolish[c] the bow, the sword, and war from the land; and I will make you lie down in safety. 19 And I will take you for my wife forever; I will take you for my wife in righteousness and in justice, in steadfast love, and in mercy. 20 I will take you for my wife in faithfulness; and you shall know the Lord.21 On that day I will answer, says the Lord,    I will answer the heavens    and they shall answer the earth;22 and the earth shall answer the grain, the wine, and the oil,    and they shall answer Jezreel;[d]23     and I will sow him[e] for myself in the land. And I will have pity on Lo-ruhamah,[f]    and I will say to Lo-ammi,[g] “You are my people”;    and he shall say, “You are my God.”Hosea 14 (NRSV)A Plea for Repentance14 Return, O Israel, to the Lord your God,    for you have stumbled because of your iniquity.2 Take words with you    and return to the Lord;say to him,    “Take away all guilt;accept that which is good,    and we will offer    the fruit[a] of our lips.3 Assyria shall not save us;    we will not ride upon horses;we will say no more, ‘Our God,’    to the work of our hands. In you the orphan finds mercy.”Assurance of Forgiveness4 I will heal their disloyalty;    I will love them freely,    for my anger has turned from them.5 I will be like the dew to Israel;    he shall blossom like the lily,    he shall strike root like the forests of Lebanon.[b]6 His shoots shall spread out;    his beauty shall be like the olive tree,    and his fragrance like that of Lebanon.7 They shall again live beneath my[c] shadow,    they shall flourish as a garden;[d]they shall blossom like the vine,    their fragrance shall be like the wine of Lebanon.8 O Ephraim, what have I[e] to do with idols?    It is I who answer and look after you.[f]I am like an evergreen cypress;    your faithfulness[g] comes from me.9 Those who are wise understand these things;    those who are discerning know them. For the ways of the Lord are right,    and the upright walk in them,    but transgressors stumble in them.

"There's kind of a disconnect between the way we talk about how somebody begins a relationship with Jesus and how Jesus actually talked to people. We make it about this moment of asking people to be our Savior, but that's not the way Jesus talks." If someone asks you how to become a Christian, what do you say? Do you tell them to pray a prayer that accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior? It's a common answer, but Keith (https://www.thecrossingchurch.com/staff/keith-simon/) explain what's wrong with it in this episode as they introduce our new series: Learning to Follow Jesus. Join us as we go through the Gospel of Luke to learn how to become a Christian and what that really means. In this episode, we talk about the bigger story of the Bible. Dec 29 2019 | Pastor Nathan Elms 1st Church CLT Prophets were known for wearing mantles as a sign of their calling from God (1 Kings 19:13). The prophet Samuel wore a mantle (1 Samuel 15:27). The prophet Elijah “threw his cloak around [Elisha]” as a symbol of Elijah’s ministry being passed on to Elisha. The prophet’s mantle was an indication of his authority and responsibility as God’s chosen spokesman (2 Kings 2:8). Elisha was not confused as to what Elijah was doing; the putting on of his mantle made his election clear. There is a spiritual depth to this story… 1) GILGAL: From a root which means “the beginning point of commitment” 2 Kings 2:1-7 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=2+Kings+2%3A1-7&version=NKJV We all must have a spiritual genesis…  2) BETHEL: In the Hebrew, it means “the house of God” This is where Jacob had his vision of the angelic ladder... Gen 28:10-15 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Gen+28%3A10-15&version=NKJV We all of us must become aware of the dwelling of God in our lives. Jacob said, 16 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Gen+28%3A16&version=NKJV   3) JERICHO: In the Hebrew, it means “a place of fragrance” The presence of God is often demonstrated by fragrance... Jericho is the battleground of spiritual understanding, the place where fragrant anointing is poured on a life. There is no copy for true anointing! It only comes through brokeness! In John 12:3, https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+12%3A3&version=NKJV The reason fragrance filled the room was because something precious had been crushed! Dying to ourselves is necessary because dead men can’t be offended or tempted.  4) JORDAN: Translated from the Hebrew ... means “descender” Jordan is where the mantle descends from Heaven on a life. To get to your place to anointing ( Jordan), you have to go through Gilgal, Bethel, and Jericho …

This Sunday, July 14, we will conclude our sermon series “Habits of Grace” as we focus on our 6th and final habit: "Give Our Time, Talent, and Resources." This is really important stuff! Just as basic Christian beliefs are vital so are basic Christian practices. Our last affirmation is absolutely essential to fulfill the first five commitments. Without a commitment of my time, talent and resources I won’t be able to Pray Regularly, Worship Frequently, Read My Bible, Serve at and Beyond New Hope, and Connect with others for growth and accountability. He Has a Name 4 Pause RECAP What Jesus calls us defines our purpose, what we call God defines our worship! Romans 12:1-2 Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship. Call on the name of the lord = worship Definition: “actual release of power so that the accomplishment is assured.” He is the only God that has the ability to BE and it IS. He is jealous of our worship because He wants relationship with us! El Elyon He is greater than any force of darkness in this world, He is bigger than any problem we might come up against in this life. El Roi He is one who chases after us, who follows us with goodness. He is the one who sees us when we feel lonely, all on our own, or when we just need the reminder that God is close. He is watching over all, that He sees the affairs of people, and knows when we feel lost and unloved. ___________________________________________ We can’t worship a God we don’t know! ___________________________________________ Psalms 46:10 (NIV and TPT) He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; (NIV) I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.” Surrender your anxiety![a [1]] Be silent and stop your striving and you will see that I am God. I am the God above all the nations, and I will be exalted throughout the whole earth. ___________________________________________ Being still is dependent on KNOWING god. Knowing God is dependent on being still ___________________________________________ Peace - John 17:3 Eternal life means to know and experience you as the only true God,[a [2]] and to know and experience Jesus Christ, as the Son whom you have sent. ___________________________________________ The need for peace: Sometimes it’s hard to know who we can trust, we may feel unsafe or uncertain in circumstances surrounding us. We want to know that our loved ones are protected and covered in His care, especially when they’re away from us. Want to know God - Be Still ___________________________________________ Do you genuinely want to be still? ___________________________________________ Take Time To Press Pause It’s called the fear of missing out. And many of us suffer from it. We don’t want to miss the next viral video, meme or online trend. We are afraid of getting behind on what our friends are all talking about. If we don’t constantly interact with what is happening online, we think we could cease to exist! So we constantly move at a non-stop pace for fear of missing out on even one thing. ___________________________________________ There’s a barrage of endless sounds and images that are constantly flashing before our eyes. There has never been a time in the history of the world when people have had more information shoved in their faces each day than right now. ___________________________________________ Even when we decide to be lazy and “do nothing,” we still end up binge watching, downloading music, playing computer games and instant messaging our friends—all at the same time. No wonder God often feels so far away in the midst of our busy nonstop lives. ___________________________________________ Want to know God? Be still… This means we need to stop, wait, and pay attention. We need to drown out the noise around us and stop scrolling for a minute. ___________________________________________ This verse in Psalms also says that God will be exalted among the nations. The word exalted means lifted above all else. If God is to be lifted up in our life then we need to turn down our other notifications so that we can start to notice God. ___________________________________________ What if one of the reasons we find it so difficult to start a conversation with God is that we don’t stay still long enough to see how much He is already present in our lives? ___________________________________________ What if by constantly trying not to miss out on things that don’t really matter, we are actually missing out on some important things that really do? ___________________________________________ El Shaddai  (Shelter) “God Almighty” – God’s name, El Shaddai, reminds us that He is all-powerful, He is the Mighty One, He is the 9-1-1 to run to. ___________________________________________ Psalm 91:1 When you sit enthroned[a [3]] under the shadow of Shaddai,[b [4]] you are hidden[c [5]] in the strength of God Most High. ___________________________________________ And we can find refuge and rest in His shadow. This is comforting in a world where we face many battles day by day. Sometimes it’s hard to know who we can trust, we may feel unsafe or uncertain in circumstances surrounding us. ___________________________________________ He is the God who sees all, knows all, and has the power to go before us, walk with us daily, and cover us from behind. Dwelling in God’s presence gives us shelter and rest. “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1 [6] ___________________________________________ Yahweh Yireh “So Abraham called that place The Lord Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” Genesis 22:14 [7] “The Lord Will Provide” – God will provide for our needs. Every one of them, He is faithful, He is able, nothing is too difficult for Him. Sometimes His timing is different than ours, maybe we feel that He’s forgotten and hasn’t heard our prayers. ___________________________________________ Sometimes we get our “needs” and “wants” mixed up, and other times He knows what is better for us than we even know ourselves. ___________________________________________ We can trust Him, that His timing is perfect, and that all things are possible for Him even when we can’t see a way out. ___________________________________________ Abraham found this to be true. Alone with his son Isaac in the wilderness, He knew and trusted that God would provide for a sacrifice in place of his only child. He believed in God’s character, and knew Him to be faithful, loving, and the God who will provide. Often it seems, that God tests our hearts like He did Abraham’s that day. He wants to know what we’re willing to lay down before Him, before He opens the doors of provision and blessing. May we be found faithful. ___________________________________________ A great way to start a conversation with God today is to press pause and be still. After all, what is the point of moving so fast if you don’t actually know which direction you are supposed to be headed? ___________________________________________ [1] https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Psalm+46%3A10&version=TPT#fen-TPT-654a [2] https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=john+17%3A3&version=TPT#fen-TPT-6830a [3] https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=psalm+91%3A1&version=TPT#fen-TPT-1370a [4] https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=psalm+91%3A1&version=TPT#fen-TPT-1370b [5] https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=psalm+91%3A1&version=TPT#fen-TPT-1370c [6] http://www.biblestudytools.com/search/?t=niv&q=ps+91:1 [7] http://www.biblestudytools.com/search/?t=niv&q=ge+22:14

Dry up in her the organs of increase; And from her derogate body never spring A babe to honour her! Away, away! (Modern English) Ah, dear Nature, my goddess, listen to me! Change your plans if you ever intended for this woman to have children. Make her sterile and dry up her womb so that no baby will ever come out of her body and honor her. I encourage you to surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship.Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you, but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes. __________________________________________________________ RESPONSE 1: We break strongholds - we don’t have to think like the world. Old beliefs, rules we judge others by Religious beliefs and practices that bind us and do not release us Most of life’s battles are won or lost in the mind Life you have is a reflection of the thoughts you think Jesus came so that we could change our minds. But I have come to give you everything in abundance, [b [4]] more than you expect[c [5]]—life in its fullness until you overflow!  (TPT) EXPERIENCE ALL THAT DELIGHTS HIS HEART (PROMISES) __________________________________________________________ Know - Accept - Believe - Activate Israelites sacrifice process  —> Abraham Surrender to Promise (The delights of His heart) Abraham and Isaac Abraham and Isaac Story Difficult to accept his promise We have our own promises that we want to live out… Or we have our own ideas of how that promise will come about (Messiah vs. Christ) _______________________________________________________________ Even Though He Could Not See It… (Faith) Hebrews 11:8. By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. Expectation though not yet beheld… (Hebrews 11:1) _______________________________________________________________ Hebrews 11:17-19 17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had embraced the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18 even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.”[c [6]] 19 Abraham reasoned that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did receive Isaac back from death. Abraham and Isaac could offer the ultimate sacrifice, they had the power to overcome their own flesh and respond to God’s promise… Empowered by Promise _______________________________________________________________ Relationships are based on trust… He sent His promise to actually walk amongst us… We Surender by trusting Him When we start believing His promises we begin to see a life that is delightful and powerful and beautiful… _______________________________________________________________ CONCLUSION Genesis 22:14 14 So Abraham called that place The LORD Will Provide. And to this day it is said, “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.” God had provided a ram for Abraham and Isaac to sacrifice as a burnt offering. Abraham built an alter and named the place Jehovah-jireh which means "the Lord provides". Mountain = a place where they received Gods word, direction and promises. He provides His promise - The Word (Jesus) He activists that promise - The Christ (Jesus) [1] https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Peter+1%3A3&version=TPT#fen-TPT-10365a [2] https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1+Peter+1%3A3&version=TPT#fen-TPT-10365b [3] https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+10%3A10&version=TPT#fen-TPT-6559a [4] https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+10%3A10&version=TPT#fen-TPT-6559b [5] https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=John+10%3A10&version=TPT#fen-TPT-6559c [6] https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Hebrews+11&version=NIV#fen-NIV-30191c

New Hope UMC Sunday Sermon Podcast

This Sunday, October 14, we begin a new sermon series "A Grace-Full Life." The companion book is available to purchase this Sunday. God's grace comes to us in four movements: "Even There, Even Now, Even More, and Even Then;" that is, prevenient grace, justifying grace, sanctifying grace, and glorifying grace. It all about living our God's all-reaching, soul-saving, character-shaping, never-ending love. We'll begin with a message on prevenient grace, which declares that no matter where you're from, who you are, or what you've done that God unconditionally loves you. It means that God is at work in our lives long before we are consciously aware and able to respond to it. God is with us before we know it! Read Deuteronomy 4:19, Psalm 8:3-4, Psalm 19:1, Isaiah 49:1, Jeremiah 1:4-5, John 1:9, Luke 15:20 to prepare: [https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+4%3A19%2C%C2%A0Psalm+8%3A3-4%2C+Psalm+19%3A1%2C%C2%A0Isaiah+49%3A1%2C%C2%A0Jeremiah+1%3A4-5%2C%C2%A0John+1%3A9%2C%C2%A0Luke+15%3A20&version=NLT](https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Deuteronomy+4%3A19%2C%C2%A0Psalm+8%3A3-4%2C+Psalm+19%3A1%2C%C2%A0Isaiah+49%3A1%2C%C2%A0Jeremiah+1%3A4-5%2C%C2%A0John+1%3A9%2C%C2%A0Luke+15%3A20&version=NLT) Subscribe to our Sunday Morning Sermons on: - Apple Podcasts: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/new-hope-umc-sunday-sermon-podcast/id1093524425?mt=2 - Stitcher Radio: http://www.stitcher.com/s?fid=87782&refid=stpr - Google Play: https://play.google.com/music/m/Ijonx62ajd5qwxv3qgxkizdqnva?t=New_Hope_UMC_Sunday_Sermon_Podcast - Website: http://www.findnewhope.com/ - Donate via PayPal to support the podcasts and the Technical Arts Ministry of New Hope! https://goo.gl/o2a9oU - Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/brandonchurchfl - YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/fumcmedia - Vimeo: http://vimeo.com/findnewhope - Google+: http://plus.google.com/+Fumcbrandon/

This Sunday, July 22, we will continue our sermon series on "Unsung Heroes of God's Word." The Bible is filled with people called by God to use their gifts to serve Him and make a profound difference for God's people, but not all of them are names we hear about all that much. Last week we looked at Bezalel and Oholiab, who were called, empowered, and equipped to lead the construction of the Tabernacle. This week's message will be "Unsung Heroes: Priscilla and Aquila," who helped Paul in his ministry, discipled new believers and welcomed churches to meet in their homes. To read about them go to: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts+18%3A1-3%3B+24-26%3B+Romans+16%3A3-5%3B+1+Corinthians+16%3A19&version=NLT Pray for those who come alongside other leaders to help and support them. Their gifts are so important to being the church Jesus wants. Pray for people to better discern the ways the Holy Spirit makes a home in us and calls us to serve others in gift-based ministry. Pray for our guests to feel the welcome of Jesus Christ at work through our worship. Nehemiah 6:3 Pastor Hornbuckle continues with Part 5 of his message entitled mission impossible coming from the book of nehemiah.Today’s message continues with nehemiah responding to enemies who were attempting to lure him away from mission, with talks of peace. As believers, we are often faced with many distractions from the enemy with continual attempts to pull us off track.Saints must continue to remain steadfast and focused on god. The local Samaritan Daily Sun might have reported the incident like this: Nehemiah Says No to Ono Samaritan officials have disclosed that Nehemiah, governor of Judah, has again turned down the offer of Governor Sanballat of Samaria to meet at one of the villages in Ono, on the Judah-Samaria border. The proposed conference would include the Big Four of the area: Geshem, leader of the Arabs; Tobiah, leader of the Ammonites; Sanballat, and Nehemiah. Sanballat issued a statement today in which he sharply criticized Nehemiah for his repeated refusals to cooperate. He reports that the purpose of such a meeting would be to work on a formula for lasting peace in the region. The Samaritan leader said with evident frustration, “This is the fourth time Nehemiah has turned down my invitation to meet and discuss our mutual concerns. These repeated refusals mean that the responsibility for increasing tensions and any violence that may result, rests solely upon Jerusalem.” (Adapted from Donald Campbell, Nehemiah: Man in Charge [Victor Books], p. 55.)
