Welcome to Marketing People Love. My name is Jacques Spitzer, and today I have a discussion that I have been looking forward to diving into with the perfect person I've found. It is a discussion on building a brand in public. Now, it's a newer phenomenon, the idea of truly sharing about it on your social media channels, sharing intimate details of the journey, and I'm going to break it down with Ali, Founder of Lucky Lad. What are his thoughts? What has been his experience? How has it led to massive breakthroughs for his brand so far, and some of the psychology behind the idea of building in public. I think a lot of us fear that if we put information out into the world, our competitors will steal it, that they'll invite competition, that ultimately it might be a negative thing. We don't necessarily think of all the positives that can happen. I can't wait to share this conversation with you!

Since 9/11, US governmental agencies have poured millions of dollars into spying on Arabs, Muslims and Arab Americans. Their surveillance has changed countless lives as ordinary citizens all over the country were interrogated, arrested or had their homes raided. But this didn't start in 2001. Invasive - and even illegal - surveillance programmes against Arabs and Arab Americans have a long history in the US, going all the way back to the 1970s, with a program code-named Operation Boulder. But it wasn't until a lawyer named Abdeen Jabara took his own government to court that the true size and scale of the programme was revealed. This episode was produced by Suzanne Gaber and Will Thomson, and edited by Dana Ballout and Alex Atack. Fact checking by Deena Sabry. Additional support from Nadeen Shaker and Zeina Dowidar. Raneem describes the negative stereotypes about young adult Palestinians. But what is dreams and goals truly characterize this generation? She and her team profile one of the artists, Zeina, who created an art project designed to challenge gender inequality through a film project called One Minutes of Norms. The project films a statement written on a sign put on a public space and responses to the sign in order to capture attention. The controversial statement calls out gender oppression in Palestine. People were hesitant to engage with the statement, and a small error in the writing created confusion. It was an experiment that, although imperfect, presented feminist commentary and challenged norms. Art opens dialogues necessary to create a change. Born in Pakistan, Afnan moved to the UK with his family when he was nine and by his mid teens had started playing the guitar and singing. The 28-year-old self-taught musician, who lives in North Shields, initially started playing in a band with his friends but gradually realised he preferred performing as a solo artist.
