David Lynch and Mark Frost's Twin Peaks has been a touchstone of Weird Studies since the podcast's inception. Back in 2018, Phil and JF recorded Episode 1: Garmonbozia while still reeling from the series' third season, which aired on Showtime the year before. Now, in preparation for their upcoming course (https://www.nuralearning.com) on Twin Peaks, they watched the third season again and recorded this episode. Their conversation touched on the virtues of late style in the arts, the divergence of knowing and understanding, the fate of Agent Dale Cooper, and the dream logic of the _Twin Peaks _universe. Grab some coffee and pie as Wyatt dives into the Twin Peaks universe to break down and review David Lynch's Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me. In the folksy town of Deerfield, Wash., FBI Agent Desmond inexplicably disappears while hunting for the man who murdered a teen girl. The killer is never apprehended, and, after experiencing dark visions and supernatural encounters, Agent Dale Cooper chillingly predicts that the culprit will claim another life. Meanwhile, in the similarly cozy town of Twin Peaks, hedonistic beauty Lara Palmer hangs with lowlifes and seems destined for a grisly fate. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check us out on our Social Media sites below:
First broadcast on FAB RADIO INTERNATIONAL at 19:00 on June 19th 2022 This week we welcome back SANDY McGREGOR and TIM BOURNE for another in our occasional peeks at series that maybe fall under the banner of perhaps the more surreal end of the television drama spectrum. After our previous examinations of both THE PRISONER and THE SINGING DETECTIVE, a couple of months ago, SANDY announced that he was planning to revisit both of the 1990s series of TWIN PEAKS and he just happened to mention that his old pal TIM was also a huge fan, so, of course, it went without saying that I had to schedule both of them in for another of our online chats. TWIN PEAKS, the dark twisted brainchild of Mark Frost and renowned movie director David Lynch, was something of a cultural phenomenon in the early nineteen-nineties, as many television viewers were as eager as AGENT DALE COOPER to find out just who killed LAURA PALMER, the bright seemingly golden girl of the quiet-seeming rural logging town of TWIN PEAKS. Both the town and Laura seemed to have been living, at the very least, a dual existence, and, once you scratched beneath the surface of this ordinary-seeming community, or looked into the background of the sad victim of a mysterious killer, nothing about either of them seemed to be exactly what you might have expected, and the impact this one brutal event has upon this whole town populated with eccentrics, monsters, and crammed full of secrets, led to two seasons, and around thirty episodes of one of the most compelling, challenging, memorable, and downright peculiar series ever made on American TV, a series which placed some indelible images inside the minds of viewers, and which remains a cult favourite even today. Some people believe that the show tended to fall away a little once the initial mystery had been resolved, but others maintain that the further layers of mystery, taking place across at least two interlinked worlds and which presented some utterly bizarre and terrifying imagery, were where the fascinations of TWIN PEAKS truly begin. Either way, there was enough interest for the feature film FIRE WALK WITH ME to be made a couple of years after the series itself was wrapped in plastic, and twenty-five years later, as promised by the original narrative, TWIN PEAKS did return for a short, but very welcome, limited event series, with both DAVID LYNCH and MARK FROST in charge to add even more confusion to all of the mysteries, if you had been hoping for some kind of closure. PLEASE NOTE - For Copyright reasons, musical content sometimes has to be removed for the podcast edition. All the spoken word content remains (mostly) as it was in the broadcast version. Hopefully this won't spoil your enjoyment of the show.
… Wow, Bob. Wow. The Master returns to direct the final episode of the season and the series (or so we thought), in Season 2, Episode 22, “Beyond Life and Death.” The sound of burning motor oil and the smell of hideous laughter usher us into the waiting room of the Black Lodge and we are spat out with at least as many questions as answers. This week, Jonathan contemplates the triumph of evil; Jennifer puzzles out the final doublings; Damon is lost in a time loop; and Colin wonders if these closing horrors were always waiting for us at the end of the road. Programming note! We are disappearing for a bit as we prepare some special content! We're back November 18, 2021, with The Autobiography of F.B.I. Warning: This episode contains spoilers for Episode Four of Atlantic Crossing. The chance to play legendary American President Franklin Delano Roosevelt was one big reason for Kyle MacLachlan to sign on to Atlantic Crossing. But it was the story of the young Norwegian Royal Family at the heart of the miniseries that made him commit to the role. MacLachlan explores Roosevelt, Agent Dale Cooper and wine with lifelong Twin Peaks fan, MASTERPIECE Studio host Jace Lacob.

Sleepy Time Tales Podcast – Creating a restful mindset through relaxing bedtime stories
This week we find out about Agent Dale Cooper’s strange method of investigation, learned in a dream about Tibet. I’m starting to see why this show has such a reputation for weirdness, because it starts to get strange with this episode. Story: 16:10 Obviously there will be spoilers for the show, and while Twin Peaks does have some disturbing content, the intention of Sleepy Time Tales is to help you sleep, so I'll avoid those bits as much as possible. Amazon has some very interesting media for Twin Peaks, besides the show itself, including the apparently rather excellent book The Secret History of Twin Peaks by Mark Frost, the show's co-creator, so take a look. https://amzn.to/2WsYZCm Sources: http://mentalfloss.com/article/81411/16-damn-fine-facts-about-twin-peaks Find Us Website: Sleepy Time Tales Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/sleepytimetales Twitter: Sleepy Time Tales Podcast Facebook: Sleepy Time Tales Podcast YouTube: Sleepy Time Tales Music: http://loyaltyfreakmusic.com/ Music Patreon: https://tinyurl.com/loyaltyfreak
One of the most talked about pop culture events of this summer was the unlikely resurrection of Twin Peaks, David Lynch and Mark Frost's landmark work which brought a new level of visual, thematic and philosophical sophistication to American television before flaming out in glorious fashion with one of the most harrowing series finales of all time. Befitting a series which left its hero (Agent Dale Cooper, played by Kyle Maclachlan) trapped in a strange netherworld for a quarter of a century, Twin Peak returned feeling both familiar and not. The cast (at least, those who had not passed away in the intervening years) were back, but the tone was darker, more abrasive, and the story flew in the face of all conventions of the medium. Once the show had finished airing there had been time to take in a fuller view of Lynch and Frost's work, Ed sat down with writer and producer Emily Benita, who is currently the producer of the great history podcast Past Tense, to talk about The Return in a wide-ranging discussion that involved good, evil, grace, nostalgia, misogyny, stagnation...basically everything, and they didn't even scratch the surface. Before all that, Matt and Ed talk about the week's news, including the latest fallout from the Harvey Weinstein scandal, Sylvester Stallone taking over as director of Creed 2, and James Corden being spectacularly terrible. But, like, more so than usual. 00:00:00 - 00:01:27 - Intro 00:01:28 - 00:30:17 - Matt and Ed discuss the news 00:30:18 - 02:22:45 - Ed and Emily discuss Twin Peaks: The Return 02:22:46 - 02:24:21 - Outro
Bubba (@FittenTrim) and Mork (@Extraordinawry) from Double P Podcasts (http://facebook.com/doubleppodcasts) look at par 7 of Twin Peaks The Return "There's a body all right" from Mark Frost and David Lynch. The streams are crossing: the Great Northern key which Jade dropped in the mailbox ended up in Ben Horne's hands! The sheets of paper that Hawk found last week have been revealed to be pages from Laura Palmer's Secret Diary! Annie Blackburn gets mentioned! Audrey Horne gets mentioned! Diane sees Mr C who she knows is not Agent Dale Cooper! Mr. C gets loose from prison! DougieCoop beats up the Icepick killer! So much happened that you should write it in your diary to keep track. A part so messy with plot, we have to sweep up the place for 2:10. Can the heroes of Twin Peaks defeat the evil forces converging around the perfect small town? Let us know your thoughts!

Show Rundown: In this week’s episode, we talk about “Twin Peaks,” which returned last night on Showtime. In our second segment, Peter Brown from Assignment X joins us to review “Alien: Covenant,” which was the #1 movie at the box office this weekend. And finally, we end the show with what we’re dorking out about this week, including Kevin Costner returning to westerns and the third season of “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.” Scratch those last two. We're talking about "Star Trek: Discovery" Topic 1: Twin Peaks Unless you’ve been stuck in the Black Lodge for the past few years, you know that “Twin Peaks” returned Sunday night with two of the 18 all-new episodes on Showtime. If you are one of those weirdos who has never watched “Twin Peaks,” then I’m going to explain to you why “Twin Peaks” is kind of a big deal. Created by filmmaker David Lynch and Mark Frost, there was nothing like “Twin Peaks” on network television in 1990. Now the line between television and movies are blurred. Actually, there are no lines. Movie stars regularly make TV shows, and TV stars make movies; BUT, in 1990, a TV series created by a filmmaker as highly regarded as David Lynch was really unusual and special. The elevator pitch for Twin Peaks was Agent Dale Cooper, played by Kyle MacLachlan, comes to a small Northwestern town to investigate the murder of the Laura Palmer, the seemingly perfect teenager, the homecoming queen dating the football team captain, etc. etc. But, of course, the show was much more than that. Twin Peaks was a mix of murder mystery, horror, dark comedy and drama. It could be absolutely heartbreaking and absolutely terrifying in the same episode. Creatively, Twin Peaks’s influence cannot overstated. It’s DNA is all over TV shows including genre shows such as “The X-Files” and “Lost” and more recently “Fargo” and “Riverdale,” as well as more mainstream TV such as “Northern Exposure.” “Twin Peaks” aired for two seasons for a total of 30 episodes. It lost its creative footing after the murder of Laura Palmer was solved midway through the second season, and the show struggled in the ratings and was canceled. Lynch wrote and directed the prequel “Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me,” which I think is underappreciated, and a small taste of where Lynch would later serve up with “Lost Highway” and “Mulholland Drive.” So, that’s why everybody is so excited that Twin Peaks is back. We watched the first episode, and we’ve got good news that gum you like is going to come back in style. Smith, what did you think about the return of “Twin Peaks?” Topic 2: Alien: Covenant with Peter Brown Over 30 years ago, Ridley Scott directed one of the best science fiction movies and one of the creepiest horror movies, and it was the same movie. That would be 1979’s Alien. Since then he’s made a career of lush, amazing looking movies which are a bit hit and miss on the storytelling side. That goes double for Prometheus, the 2012 movie marking Scott’s return to the franchise he began. But by then, and maybe until today, the Alien franchise has become one of the most beat up, battered, messed around franchises in Hollywood history. For every classic sequel, like James Cameron’s Aliens, there were two or three deformed creatures, like the possibly underrated David Fincher entry, Alien 3, or the no-holds bar trainwreck like Alien: Resurrection. When it came out, Prometheus had a lot of fans excited for a top shelf alien story, but the final movie left a divided fanbase, half liking it, half loathing it. On this week’s episode of Throwdown Thursday, the gang are joined by everyone’s favorite podcasting buddy, Mr. Isaac, and Atomic Age Media’s Jeremy McFarlane! In anticipation of the return of David Lynch’s cult hit Twin Peaks, we discuss the unforgettable Agent Dale Cooper, played by the talented Kyle MacLachlan. They dive into fan theories, memorable moments of Dale Cooper, Lynch’s style, and what they are excited for with the new series. From horse cocks to losing voices and fan casting of comic book characters, things get crazy and weird throughout the episode. Enjoy the episode with a slice of cherry pie and a damn fine cup of coffee!
It's here! Our bumper-sized Twin Peaks episode (almost definitely the first of many) where we lose our shit over David Lynch and Mark Frost's cult classic TV show.
Twin Peaks' cancellation was all but certain in May, 1991. Yet that is also when series writer Scott Frost's Agent Cooper book My Life, My Tapes was released. The Who Killed Laura Podcast Episode 30 - Goddamn, these people are confusing! We're proud to announce our latest episode is available for your listening Lynch-directed, Robert Engels and Lynch co-written film that served as a prequel to the Twin Peaks television series, recounting the final days in Laura Palmer's life as well as filling in how Agent Dale Cooper and the FBI first became involved, due to the mysterious disappearance of Teresa Banks. Scott and Chris discuss the entire film (as released) in this extra-length episode, from the expected greatness of Ray Wise to Sheryl Lee finally show how good she can be, driving home that at its heart, Twin Peaks is as much about horrible, all-too-real abuse as it is other dimensions, quirky characters, coffee or pie. The film answers longstanding questions as it raises more, like what does David Bowie's Agent Jeffrey's have to do with everything, and how did Bobby Briggs get away with murder? We hope you enjoy the episode and let us know what you think. As you may now know, we've got a few months between now and the premiere of the Showtime Twin Peaks series, so we'll be filling that time looking at the “Missing Pieces” (deleted or extended scenes from the film), more recent cast interviews from the Blu-ray box set, Mark Frost's Secret History of Twin Peaks: A Novel, and more.
