The Snatch Game comes early this season, giving us eleven reasons to wonder if this challenge needs to finally be blanked. Luckily we get Lexi as Gilbert Gottfried as Lexi as Gilbert Gottfried, Onya on the ball, Alyssa Edwards in the hot seat, Ru openly criticizing Lana's performance mid-game and a talking butt plug. The runway feels very pointed and Quinta Brunson nails the balance of funny and functional critiques. In an 11th hour goop, Ru saves Lana over Crystal, because sometimes things that are expensive are worse.Become a Matreon at the Sister Mary level to get full access to Canada's Drag Race this season, plus movie reviews and past seasons of US Drag Race, UK, Canada, Down Under, Espana, Global All Stars, Philippines and more.Join us at our OnlyMary's level for EVEN MORE movie reviews, brackets, and deep dives into our personal lives!Patreon: www.patreon.com/alrightmaryEmail: alrightmarypodcast@gmail.comInstagram: @alrightmarypodJohnny: @johnnyalso (Instagram)Colin: @colindrucker_ (Instagram)Web: www.alrightmary.com

Dive into the dazzling world of Jay Jackson, also known as Laganja Estranja, where the art of dance meets the boldness of drag, creating a spectacle of talent and transformation. In this episode, host John Corella and the renowned drag queen and choreographer explore a myriad of topics, from dance and television to the vital intersection of LGBTQ issues within the dance world. Laganja opens up about her extensive dance background, sharing insights from her early ballet classes to her evolution into an international performer. She discusses her affinity for contemporary dance and how her dance competition background has uniquely shaped her choreography, blending various styles and expressions. The conversation also delves into the significant role of dance in the drag community and its ongoing evolution. Laganja pays homage to influential figures in her career, such as her drag mother, Alyssa Edwards, and Candis Cayne, and discusses her recent choreography projects, including collaborations with Lady Camden and Trixie and Katya. A central theme of the episode is the importance of representation and inclusion in the dance industry, especially for the transgender community. Laganja speaks passionately about the need for transgender individuals to be in leadership positions, advocating for their community. She candidly shares her experiences and challenges as a transgender performer, shedding light on the industry's landscape. This episode provides an insightful look into Laganja Estranja's multifaceted career as a dancer, choreographer, and drag queen, highlighting the transformative power of dance in the LGBTQ+ community and the significance of embracing one's true identity in the arts. Quotes “I think definitely now that newer generations are becoming drag queens, there's definitely a crossover. You know, I used to really be the only like dancing queen in L.A. that had background dancers that were choreographed. You know, which was so crazy to me, because now you see that in L.A. all the time. But I think over the years, drag has become more dance centric and more focused on the tricks that you can do on stage, as opposed to just the look or the lip sync of it all.” (26:04 | Jay Jackson) “Respect in general is something that my parents instilled in me at a very young age. Both my parents were high school counselors for 30 plus years and so they raised me to be very in touch with my emotions and in touch with other's emotions.” (29:41 | Jay Jackson) “I want to respect those that have helped me become successful. So even though I never really took voguing classes before Drag Race or was in the ballroom community, I wouldn't have had such an outlandish appeal on the TV show if it hadn't been for all those that came before me. That's why when I went back for All-Star 6, I wanted to pay ode or paid homage to Tandy Amon-Dupree, who was known for flying out from the ceiling into a split. And so again, anytime people bring up that entrance, I always try to say her name because What I truly believe is even though those people may have never placed their hands on me, their art, their lineage, what they left has inspired me to be the artist I am today.” (30:23 | Jay Jackson) I worked with Meryl Streep once. And I could visibly see her nervous. I used to think, Oh, if you're the people that are the best in their art, they never get nervous. So I would feel kind of shame over my nerves. And so I always tell the kids that when they feel nervous, that it's because you care. Even the greats. (35:51 | John) “So much of, you know, who I am, my character, everything, it comes from her [Alyssa Edwards]. I mean, she's my drag mother.” (41:57 | Jay Jackson) Links Dance Dance Dad with John Corella on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dancedadwithjohncorella/ John on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/john_corella/ Laganja on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/laganjaestranja Laganja on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@LaganjaEstranja Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm

The queens are making a scene this week, and we're not even talking about the challenge itself. Emotions run high early in the day and Best Supporting Ru makes an emergency visit to the workroom to keep more queens from quitting the show through the power of proselytizing. The true crime improv challenge itself is a slickly produced step up, and while no one is dead on arrival, there were likely culprits for bottom two. The winner of this week's runway pageant was, in the words of Alyssa Edwards, not on this stage, and Jorgeous punches the clock more than the ghost as our guest lip sync assassin. It ultimately ends up being a really good week for Lala Ri, and frankly, it's about damn time. Want even more Alright Mary? Justin has so much respect for Ru Paul and calls him the pioneer that opened all these opportunities worldwide. Justin was worried that his dance kids and parents would think of him weirdly if he went on the show. When the producer called to audition Justin - he was shocked and told them they can google him and they surely googled "AMERICA's QUEEN". They kept bringing up that he was dethroned and if he knows Coco Montrese the person that took over the crown. He said he never heard of him :). Ultimately they were both cast on Ru Paul's Drag Race Season 5 and the rest is history. We are beyond excited to welcome our World Famous Celebrity Guest Justin Johnson who is best known by his stage name Alyssa Edwards. Justin is not only a friend but family, who we love dearly and are so happy to have him on the show to celebrate our 300th episode. We talk about his dance studio Beyond Belief Dance Company in Mesquite, TX where he is celebrating 20 years of being the Steven Spielberg of dance. He is creating powerful stories through his dances and his life is fulfilled when he watches his dancers perform on stage. He thanks his Earth Angel Michelle Sherrard who helped him get started with the studio. We get to know how Justin grew up in Mesquite with his 4 sisters, Mom, very strong Dad and his granny. Justin was a natural born leader but wanted nothing to do with football or baseball, whichwas very disappointing to his father. Justin believes that dance saved his life. When he was young he was too shy to talk to people but expressed himself through dance. Justin makes a passionate appeal that in our world today gay people shouldn't have to "COME OUT" anymore. Back when he did he had the full support of his granny who told him that when she looked into his eyes when he was born she would love him for the rest of her life and love who he loves. Justin does say that watching Philadelphia with Tom Hanks traumatized him at the time. For years he was the real life Hannah Montana of Mesquite because he didn't want anyone to know that he started doing drag, because he was afraid of being judged. We get to know all about how he got started in drag and how he was crowned Miss Texas, Miss USA and Miss America and Miss All American Goddess. Bradley Brooks, set director for Chapman University's Program Board reflects on the Feb. 12 Drag Bingo event he organized, as well as how his role and experience in UPB has shaped his college life thus far.
For the reputation that Season 7 gets, it definitely has one of the series' tightest snatches--Snatch Game, that is. From Kennedy's rootie-tootie Little Richard to Violet's nail flying off as Alyssa Edwards to Pearl's grotesque interpretation of Big Ange, there's a lot to love here--and a lot to question (Why did Ginger also win this week?). And while Max delivers a dulled Sharon Needles, it doesn't justify the egregiously shady edit she gets on the runway. Also, she looked better in gray.
