While attending an ASML presentation at SEMICON Korea, I noticed a tidbit on one of the slides. A key part of their future EUV roadmap has been growing the power source to 800 watts or more. But it had not been super clear to me how they were going to do that, other than maybe raising the speed of the tin pellets. Then I saw the slide and it showed something new, at least to me. Three laser pulses rather than two. Now how about that? No, this is not an Onion article. This looks to be real. In this video, I want to talk about lasers and EUV light sources. And how three is better than two.

This machine uses an EUV light source known as Laser-induced Discharge Plasma, or LDP. This is in contrast to ASML's method, which is called the Laser Produced Plasma or LPP method. It is claimed that LDP is much more efficient than LPP. Smaller, simpler and with better energy efficiency. Has ASML just been DeepSeek'd? I have been asked to speak on this via email and Twitter. I guess I have to do it. There is so little out there about how this machine works, so I am not going to speculate. But people have tried LDP before and we can talk about that. HOUR ONE: “The devil made me do it.” It's an excuse that has been used so often by so many that it has lost its meaning, and its effectiveness. So only a fool or a madman would commit a horrible act and then try to blame it on the devil or a demon… unless, of course, that person truly believes that is exactly what happened to them. (A Demon Made Me Do It) *** The little Norwegian village of Bærum Verk still stands as an old foundry settlement, and is an active place, both as a place to work, and as a place to live – and as a place to keep living even after you're dead. (The Most Haunted Village in Norway) *** There are more than a few stories from upright citizens around the world who claim to have seen tiny humans. I'm not talking about the diminutive human beings we used to classify as dwarves or midgets until we became more enlightened. I'm talking about short, maybe two-foot tall, perfectly proportioned people. (Big Stories About Little People)==========HOUR TWO: Like many desolate places, the Arctic has its share of ghost stories and haunted legends floating around the frigid, wild areas of its domain. It might be the frights rather than the cold that gives you goosebumps. (Ghostly Shivers of the Arctic Circle) *** You never know what might be lurking just out of sight – in the shadows, behind a door. I'll share a few true stories that might make you double-check the locks at night and check the closet before going to bed. (Never Trust The Dark) *** When you think of the Salem Witch Trials, you typically think of women being burned at the stake, innocently accused of witchcraft. There are two incorrect assumption about that mental picture. First, most of the accused were hung, and none have been truly verified to be burned alive. And second, sorcery and Satan worship were not seen to be bound by gender, and so either a man, woman, boy, or girl could be a witch. And one of those unfortunate men was Giles Corey – but his punishment went beyond the norm, and into the gruesome. (The Most Dreadful Execution of The Salem Witch Trials)==========SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: When John and Eva were married they told their relatives that they planned to honeymoon on the Atlantic coast, but John had another plan, and it would not be his last deception. But it would be the first act in what ended up being a mystery that has still gone unsolved to this day. (The Lawrenceburg Shanty-Boat Mystery) *** Weirdo family member James Pierce brings a true story that he calls, “It Came Through the Screen Door”. *** A 5-year-old boy having the time of his life at a carnival suddenly goes missing – and when found later there is no evidence whatsoever as to how he got where he was, who took him there, or what happened to him before he was found. (The Disturbing Case of Little Stephen McKerron) *** Weirdo family member Joy Cruz remembers something her mother told her as a child… and it quite possibly saved her soul. Tyndall National Institute, based at University College Cork, welcomes a cutting-edge quantum light source as part of QuanTour, a groundbreaking European science outreach project. This unique project, which is in anticipation of the UNESCO International Year of Quantum Science and Technology 2025, aims to inspire the public and shed light on the future of quantum communication. The QuanTour initiative will see the specially built quantum light source travel to 12 leading research laboratories across Europe, highlighting the groundbreaking research in quantum physics. Tyndall will serve as the Irish host, joining institutions from Germany, Austria, Italy, Switzerland, Spain, France, England, Scotland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Poland. Tyndall (and its QCEC Centre for Quantum Computer Engineering) is at the forefront of quantum research, working on cutting-edge projects in quantum communication, quantum computing, and quantum sensing. These new technologies have the potential to revolutionise fields such as data security, computing power, and precise measurement techniques. Tyndall's participation in this international project highlights its strong position in the global scientific community, supporting its reputation as a key player in quantum technologies. One way to address these challenges is to utilise semiconductor quantum dots to create individual particles of light, known as photons, together with other exotic states of light, such as entangled photons. The QuanTour project illustrates the critical role quantum communication will play in securing future global data networks. Today's fibre-optic communications, which connect cities and countries, rely on traditional data transmission methods. However, the future lies in quantum communication, which uses photons to transmit information securely based on the principles of quantum physics. The QuanTour project also underlines the relevance of exploiting single photonic technologies for achieving computational advantage with quantum computers over traditional computation with classical chips. A high-intensity source of identical photons is key to achieve that. Dr. Emanuele Pelucchi, Head of Epitaxy and Physics of Nanostructures at Tyndall, said: "I am proud of being part of this initiative, which also importantly and playfully symbolically marks 100 years of "quantum". Quantour highlights the relevance that quantum technologies bear to our future and 100 years of endeavours and successes. At Tyndall we are doing our part developing unique site-controlled photon sources which are relevantly contributing to the challenges quantum technologies present." QuanTour is a project of the German Physical Society (DPG), organised by Dr Doris Reiter (TU Dortmund University, and Dr Tobias Heindel (TU Berlin University).

Weird Darkness: Stories of the Paranormal, Supernatural, Legends, Lore, Mysterious, Macabre, Unsolved

HOUR ONE: Like many desolate places, the Arctic has its share of ghost stories and haunted legends floating around the frigid, wild areas of its domain. (The Most Dreadful Execution of The Salem Witch Trials)==========HOUR TWO: “The devil made me do it.” It's an excuse that has been used so often by so many that it has lost its meaning, and its effectiveness. (Big Stories About Little People)==========SUDDEN DEATH OVERTIME: When John and Eva were married they told their relatives that they planned to honeymoon on the Atlantic coast, but John had another plan, and it would not be his last deception. The Joint Venture: an infrastructure and renewables podcast

In this episode, we delve into the results of the UK's first hydrogen CfD, HAR1, where 11 winners have a total electrolyser capacity of 125MW  — with an ambitious timeline targeting FID by 2024 and operational status by 2025.We then shift focus to Estonia's burgeoning offshore wind sector, highlighting the 1.4GW Liivi 2 area, where a joint venture between CIP and Ignitis Group was the sole bidder. We also explore the challenges in Norway's offshore sector, discuss BP's strategic acquisition of Lightsource, and Germany's troublesome 2024 budget - which is finally coming unstuck. We take an in-depth review of the COP28 summit held in Dubai. We dissect the summit's final agreement, the establishment of the Loss and Damage Fund, and the commitments to triple renewable energy capacity. The episode also casts a light on the pivotal roles of China and the US in these negotiations, underlining the complexities of international climate politics.Lastly, we turn our attention to the European Union's Grid Action Plan. We explore the EU's ambitious plans for grid expansion, digitalisation, and cyber-securing of its electricity network, highlighting the challenges and opportunities within the broader context of global environmental initiatives. As an American with Kenyan heritage and a multicultural upbringing that includes formative years in India, Elizabeth Kaiga brings a highly unique & necessary lens to the energy transition. Our CEO spoke with Elizabeth, DNV's Chief Commercial Officer for Energy Systems in North America, at her office in Virginia. They spoke about her unconventional career path in the energy industry - starting from when she interned for the United Nations Environmental Programme, to then working at several global professional service firms. We especially loved hearing from Elizabeth about how she has successfully navigated her career as someone with a multicultural background & who has often been an ‘outsider', as well as about the new energy equity offerings DNV is now providing to its clients. Elizabeth has been on the Board of WRISE for 7 years now & shared more with Catherine about the ways in which the organization is directly impacting lives through fellowships, job boards, mentoring, networking opportunities & its speakers bureau. She also highlighted the strong impact of WRISE's corporate sponsors, including Google, Edison Energy, SOLV, RWE, Cordelio Power, MCE, Orsted, Qcells, Lightsource bp, Copia Power, AES, Longroad Energy and DNV. Elizabeth has also been on the Board of Solar Sister, a nonprofit that has helped over 10,000 women in Sub-Saharan Africa (an emerging market) gain access to clean energy solutions in off-grid communities and create clean energy businesses. Thank you, Elizabeth, for all that you do for our industry! If you're looking for your next role in clean energy, take a look at our industry-leading clients' latest job openings: bit.ly/dg_jobs. If you're a clean energy employer & need help scaling your workforce efficiently with top tier candidates, contact Catherine McLean, CEO & Founder of Dylan Green, directly on LinkedIn: https://bit.ly/3odzxQr.

The lights flooded the room lighting up the sea of gleeful faces from the front to the back. The party had been going all day and all night, and the energy had never let up, even for a moment. Bodies swarmed the dance floor, moving in unison to the pulsing beats seeping out of the speakers in each corner. Time seemed to stand still inside here, there was nothing but them and the music, the outside world no longer mattered... Following his debut outing on Jennifer Cardini's Correspondent, Adonis family member Nyra returns to Canoe Records for the label's first EP in two years. Made up of two tracks, the release draws inspiration from the Sheffield-born producer's formative clubbing experiences in his home city and a love of the early Belgian rave sound. Self-described as “intergaleatic future sounds”, it's full of euphoria with ravey synths, energetic rhythms and soaring piano melodies that transport you back to the heydays of the 90s.

John has also interviewed industry leaders like SEIA CEO Abby Hopper, ACPA CEO Heather Zichal, Lightsource bp Americas CEO Kevin Smith, Rhone Resch, Heliene CEO Martin Pochtaruk, and more. Today, we're dropping in a segment of the first episode of that series to give our #SolarWarriors a taste of what I'm listening to and enoying.. Enjoy! (The Most Haunted Village in Norway) *** When John and Eva were married they told their relatives that they planned to honeymoon on the Atlantic coast, but John had another plan, and it would not be his last deception. But it would be the first act in what ended up being a mystery that has still gone unsolved to this day. (The Lawrenceburg Shanty-Boat Mystery) *** There are more than a few stories from upright citizens around the world who claim to have seen tiny humans. I'm not talking about the diminutive human beings we used to classify as dwarves or midgets until we became more enlightened. I'm talking about short, maybe two-foot tall, perfectly proportioned people. (Big Stories About Little People) *** Weirdo family member James Pierce brings a true story that he calls, “It Came Through the Screen Door”.(Dark Archives episode from June 24, 2020)SOURCES AND ESSENTIAL WEB LINKS…“The Genesis of Geraldine” by David Jeremiah for Light Source: https://tinyurl.com/y7t7nuwx “A Demon Made Me Do It” by Jacob Shelton for Ranker: https://tinyurl.com/y2qedyjq, and Orrin Grey for The Line Up: https://tinyurl.com/yb8e6z25“The Most Haunted Village in Norway” from Moon Mausoleum: https://tinyurl.com/ya8nuxur “The Lawrenceburg Shanty-Boat Mystery” by Robert Wilhelm for Murder By Gaslight: https://tinyurl.com/yyod3q3j“Big Stories About Little People” by Nick Redfern for Mysterious Universe: https://tinyurl.com/ycql47wq“It Came Through the Screen Door” by Weirdo family member James PierceSubscribe to the podcast by searching for Weird Darkness wherever you listen to podcasts – or use this RSS feed link: https://www.spreaker.com/show/3655291/episodes/feed.Weird Darkness theme by Alibi Music Library.
