THE DOOMED & STONED SHOW ~Season 5, Episode 46~ This week's broadcast visits the Ed Wood disasterpiece Plan 9 From Outer Space (1959). While initially a commercial disappointment, the film has since become a cult classic. Infamous for his convoluted plots, Ed Wood here imagines a time in which extraterrestrials attempt to intervene in earth's affairs to stop mankind's self-destructive death-wish. Presented along with the main narrative is a selection of music inspired by the movie, including Kyuss, Truckfighters, Brimstone Coven, Ufomammut, Eternal Elysium, Comet Control, Ancient VVisdom, and more! THE DOOMED & STONED SHOW ~Season 5, Episode 42~ "Is this the day? Is this the beginning of the end? There is no time to wonder. No time to ask why is it happening, why is it finally happening. There is time only for fear, for the piercing pain of panic. Do we pray? Or do we merely run now and pray later? Will there be a later? Or is this the day?" This week's show is inspired by The Outer Limits, a classic science fiction television show that ran from 1963 to 1965. My favorite episode is called "The Architects of Fear." In response to Cold War fears of total nuclear annihilation, a secretive scientific order plots to unite the world against a common enemy -- a monster from outer space, to be precise. Only the monster would need to come from their own ranks, a volunteer who would undergo a risky surgery that would transform his entire being into one from the planet Theta. Names are put in a bowl and Dr. Allen Leighton (played by Robert Culp) ends up being selected to undergo the dangerous metamorphosis. Meanwhile, his spacecraft is being prepared for a dramatic landing at UN headquarters when the transformation is complete. The episode was directed by Byron Haskin, who a decade earlier had brought War of the Worlds by H.G. Wells to the big screen. PLAYLIST: IS THIS THE DAY? (00:00) 1. From the New York Times bestselling author of the Biggest Loser Cookbook series, an indulgent comfort cookbook filled with recipes for anyone who wants to be healthy, whether they have diabetes or not! Whether you're managing diabetes, want to lose weight, or just plain want to be fit while eating insanely scrumptious meals, weight-loss expert Devin Alexander is here to assure you, “You Can Have It!” The celebrity chef on the hit series, The Biggest Loser, and the author of the New York Times bestselling The Biggest Loser Cookbook series and The Most Decadent Diet Ever!, Devin Alexander, has created a collection of easy diabetes-friendly recipes that seem simply too good, and too decadent, to be healthy. Using her chef secrets, tips, and techniques that helped contestants on the hit show lose weight and that wowed customers in her restaurants, Devin Alexander has crafted more than 125 easy diabetes-friendly recipes that bust the myth that eating well means giving up the comfort foods you love. Best of all, Devin is living proof that these meals work—even as a chef, around food all day, she's lost 70 pounds and kept it off for close to 30 years! With beautiful photographs, doable tips, simple techniques, affordable ingredients, and mouthwatering meals, this is the cookbook every person who cares about their health (whether they have diabetes or not!) will want to own. Inside you'll find hundreds of decadent and simple-to-prepare dishes. Even if you're managing diabetes, heart health, or trying to lose weight, no type of meal is "off limits" and no favorite is forbidden. With small tweaks and the right approach, Devin is here to show that, yes, You Can Have It! Devin has shared her Devinly Decadent secrets as the host of Healthy Decadence on Discovery Life Channel and Fit Tv from 2007-2011, as Host of “America's Chefs on Tour” on PBS Food and through frequent appearances on Today Show, Good Morning America, The Biggest Loser, Dr. Oz, Access Hollywood Live, The Doctors, Dr. Drew, The View, OMG Insider, Dr. Phil, FOX, CNN, HGTV, USA, Style Network and others as well as through over 500 magazine features including Prevention, Women's Health, Men's Health and Shape. This week, The Doomed & Stoned Podcast focuses on SXSW....well, sorta. Actually, the official SX events kinda suck this year, at least from the perspective of heavy music. Just a bunch of corporate hipster bullshit, but I mean, to each his own. What do I know? Good music is what I know! I sniff out the tunes, man. And the best action for your time and money is happening this week in unofficial showcases: Ripple Music's Black Smoke Conjuring (Tuesday, March 14th) and SX Stoner Jam Free Show! 23 Heavy Tripped out bands (Wednesday, March 15th). On the program (in order of play): White Light Cemetery, Psychotic Reaction, Salem's Bend, DUEL, BoneHawk, Greenbeard, Buffalo Fuzz, Switchblade Jesus, Smokey Mirror, Plastic Daggers, Fox 45, Blackwülf, Crypt Trip, Great Electric Quest, Forming the Void, Ancient VVisdom, From Beyond, Illustrations, the Munsens, and Tia Carrera!
