For eighteen years (1983-2001) a fixture of radio & television's Howard Stern Show, comedian Jackie “The Joke Man” Martling was born and raised in East Norwich, a tiny hamlet on the glorious North Shore of Long Island, New York. He graduated in 1966 from Oyster Bay High School and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University in 1971. In March, 1979, he created a dirty joke line, “Use Your Finger! Dial (516) 922-WINE!,” which has been in uninterrupted operation since 1979 [516-922-9463].The jokes worked. Jackie released three self-produced comedy lp's, 1979's “What Did You Expect?,” 1980's “Goin' Ape!,” and 1981's “Normal People Are People You Don't Know That Well” on his own label, OHR Records. In 1982, after founding “Governor's Comedy Shop” in Levittown on Long Island and touring as a national headliner, on a suggestion from a Washington DC comedy club owner, he blindly sent his three LP's to Howard Stern upon Howard's arrival at WNBC-AM in New York City. Howard called him to make a guest appearance on his radio show. In 1986, Jackie became a full-time cast member and the head writer of Stern's show, and as they say, the rest is history. Remarkable radio as well as show business history.Jackie left the Stern show in 2001 after fifteen-year run as head writer of the radio show, four television series, and three Pay-Per-Views. He's released six dirty joke CD's … “The Joke Man,” “Sgt. Pecker,” “Hot Dogs & Donuts,” Come Again?!,” F. jackie,” and “snart,” as well as three videos, five joke books and countless joke gadgets of all kinds, for children as well as adults. In 2006 he released a CD of his original music entitled “Happy Endings,” that he co-produced with guitar legend Frank Vignola. From 2007-2014, Jackie wrote and performed his own radio show on SiriusXM Satellite Radio, “Jackie's Joke Hunt,” and he wrote the joke page for Penthouse magazine for 17 years.Jackie is featured in the red-hot comedy documentary, “The Aristocrats,” over a dozen other independent films and has appeared on many television shows. He still works all around the country performing his solo act of rapid-fire filthy jokes and the classic finale, “Stump The Joke Man.” and guests on many of the top national radio shows and podcasts. For shows click on the link!https://www.jokeland.com

With it being Olympics season, what better time than talk with Chef/Owner Richard Cusack at 30:35 of show to chat about June BYOB in Collingswood, NJ an upscale French restaurant owned and operated by husband and wife, Richard and Christina Cusack, a certified sommelier. It features traditional French cuisine with some modern influences, and includes tableside presentations. The Cusack's are also Chef/Owners of Café le Jardin in Audubon, NJ. This café offers a blend of traditional and contemporary elements, creating a cozy space for patrons to relax and enjoy a variety of food and beverages. With a warm, welcoming vibe with a touch of elegance. It's designed to be a comfortable spot for both casual hangouts and more intimate gatherings that are family and budget friendly. Staying French themed, we chatted with Isabelle Noblanc at 01:09:15 of the show. Isabelle is Co-Owner of Mamie Colette in Newtown, PA an artisan bakery specializing in French viennoiserie. They prioritize quality and health. Their products are made from scratch, fresh every day and do not contain added preservatives. Their flour is non-GMO, never bleached and never bromated. Their mission is to bring happiness to our customers and team members, and serve the community, while offering a superior experience with quality products, and choice. Artisan viennoiserie bakers place a strong emphasis on using high-quality ingredients, such as butter, flour, and yeast, and on following traditional techniques for laminating the dough, shaping the croissants, and baking them to perfection. The goal is to produce croissants that are flaky, buttery, and full of flavor, with a crispy exterior and a soft, tender interior. She is also Co-Owner of their sister bakery, L'Annexe de Mamie Colette in Titusville, NJ that has bread, French pastries (except for croissants) and Breton crepes. Last, but certainly not least at 01:48:02 in the episode, we had a little French - New Orleans - Vietnamese fusion twist talking to Nini Nguyen about the soon to be released cookbook ‘Dac Biet: An Extra-Special Vietnamese Cookbook' available to order pre-sale now and on store shelves August 27th from Knopf Publishing. Nini is a New Orleans–based chef and cooking instructor. After starting her career in some of the country's most innovative kitchens, such as Coquette in New Orleans and Eleven Madison Park in New York, she competed in season 16 of Top Chef, as well as Top Chef: All-Stars, becoming a fan favorite. At the beginning of the pandemic, she leaned into her passion for teaching, originally honed at Cook Space in Brooklyn, New York, and built her Cooking with Nini virtual classes into a robust business. The classes, which she teaches several times per week, are wildly popular. The cookbook that will soon be available is a collection of contemporary, extra-special Vietnamese recipes, from beloved classics like Hanoi-Style Vermicelli with Grilled Pork and three variations of phở, to dishes with a New Orleans twist, like Southeast Asian Jambalaya and Sticky Fried Shrimp Bánh Mì. It includes one hundred delicious and vibrant recipes that celebrate the essential flavors of Vietnam—salty, sour, bitter, spicy, and sweet—and the bright and perfectly balanced dishes they create. The menu, carefully curated by Executive Chef Alexis Rosario, who has been with Mamajuana Café for over 15 years, and Chef Jose Zarazuela. Then at 02:06:15 of the episode Michelle Miller and Molly Kiriacoulacos really ‘grew' on us discussing The Ground Rittenhouse. The Ground Coffee, Plants, & Gifts opened their first location, nestled in Olde Kensington, and it swiftly became a local favorite, with now a second location in Rittenhouse Square and they open its doors in spring 2024. Philadelphia's coffee and bubble tea scene is about to get a lush addition with a new gorgeous plant-filled cafe in the heart of Center City. Long-time friends and business partners Michelle Miller and Molly Kiriacoulacos new Center City local based coffee shop, bubble tea cafe, plant store and gift shop is double the size of their first location, with room for an even larger selection of curated food, drink and plant offerings. The 1,500 square feet space was transformed from top to bottom into an urban oasis with features that include a refinished coffee and espresso bar, eclectic and comfy cafe seating, unique new interactive bubble booth, Parisian vibes and a hand-painted wall mural of Rittenhouse Square. The Ground soft opened on Earth Day as a nod to its dedication to sustainability. Another recent opening we discuss is at 02:25:35 of the episode is with Richie Romero the Partner- Chief Hospitality Officer at Simplevenue and talked about Sushi by Boū is presented by simplevenue, a NYC-based hospitality group specializing in micro restaurants, and in bringing incredible concepts to underutilized spaces across the country. The company is led by Founders Michael Sinensky and Erika London, alongside newly appointed Partner and Chief Hospitality Officer Richie Romero. Its flagship brand Sushi by Boū changed the sushi counter experience in America, it offers a modern take on the classic old-school sushi counter, providing a glimpse at the hustle and bustle of Japan's food culture, combined with a truly unique, personalized culinary experience. Fishtown guests will enjoy ambiance inspired by the Hip Hop Era of the 90s, with graffiti covered walls, dozens of suspended vinyls overhead, playlights dedicated to the best of 90s Hip Hop and murals of Philadelphia and Philadelphia Hip Hop legends. Last, but certainly not last at 02:49:30 of the episode, Sam Eckstein Co-Founder of Springbone Kitchen just launched a new burger concept in NYC called Springy Burgers & Fries. It's a radically healthy take on the classic American burger joint. They've got grass-fed beef tallow in their deep fryer (just like McDonald's used to do it back in the day!) and of course their beef is 100% grass-fed; even their burger buns are gluten free. The concept is an offshoot of their first restaurant venture, Springbone Kitchen, which was an early leader in the bone broth movement. They now have 8 Springbone locations around the NYC area which are doing amazing. They used to serve a burger at their original location which was insanely popular, but they realized that to do anything well in this business you need to be a specialist. So they axed the burger and hoped to come back and do it right one day. Well that day is now! A Note from James:Gosh, I can't believe the story Jackie just told about Jeffrey Epstein and Trump and Clinton and everything, but first: Jackie "The Joke Man" Martling wrote for many years, 15 years for Howard Stern, wrote for Rodney Dangerfield, is an awesome standup comedian. He's just an all-around good guy. I remember the last time Jackie was on the podcast was years ago and, we were talking about what constitutes a "dirty joke".And he sent me these two huge books, like academic books, about the history of the dirty joke. That's the kind of just generous, good guy Jackie is. He just sent these books and they're fascinating. Jackie and I got together today. We talked about his history and what's going on and the documentary, 'Joke Man'. It's his whole story. It's really interesting. D and L Coffee Service Inc. presents Small Bites Radio the #1 listed “Food Radio show Philadelphia” and #1 listed “Food Radio show South Jersey”. Our newest episode has a fantastic lineup! #SmallBitesRadio has been named #14 out of the Top 30 Best Hospitality Shows on the planet for 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2023, #23 Top Philadelphia Lifestyle Influencer in 2021, 2022, and 2023 and nominated by Metro Philly Newspaper as 2022's Best of Philly Arts & Entertainment, and Winner of Metro Philly Newspaper 2023's Best of Philly Arts & Entertainment. John Howard-Fusco started the show off talking about SIN Philadelphia, Schulson Collective restaurants, Royal Tavern, South Jersey Food Scene, Wawa, Philadelphia Pretzel Factory, and more. We had a fantastic conversation with Frankie Faison (01:58:30 of episode), a talented and accomplished actor and a legend in the entertainment industry with a successful career spanning several decades. He is best known for his versatile performances in film, television, and on stage. One of his most notable roles is as Commissioner Ervin Burrell in the critically acclaimed television series "The Wire." Faison's contributions to the entertainment industry have been significant, and his performances have left a lasting impact on audiences and critics alike. Now he is entering the food industry with a successful launch of Frankie's Fabulous Granola with an anticipated nationwide launch in 2024. After spending more than 2 decades carefully crafting his recipe, Frankie is ready to share his product with the world! During the actors strike, with every bag that was sold, a portion of the proceeds were donated to the SAG-AFTRA Emergency Relief Fund to help support those in his union during the strike against the AMPTP. Frankie's Fabulous Granola is hand made (and mixed) with love and care. Each batch is crafted in small quantities to guarantee freshness and flavor. Using only the finest organic ingredients, their granola is the perfect combination of crunch and sweetness, making it a delightful addition to your breakfast or snack time. With the holiday season in full force in the Philadelphia area we welcomed Grace Gosnar (59:30 of episode) Marketing Coordinator for Teddy Sourias's Craft Concepts Group. CCG really goes all out to make any visit a full sensory experience. The collection of CCG restaurants, bars, beer gardens and pop-up concepts focuses on showcasing and being a driver in the elevation of Philadelphia's thriving dining and nightlife scene. Their locations include BRU Craft & Wurst, U-Bahn, Kontrol, Finn McCool's Ale House, Uptown Beer Garden, Tradesman's, Blume Burger, Sueño, Tinsel holiday pop-up bar, and more. Coming soon to Philadelphia is Bake'N Bacon that will open a new bacon themed restaurant in South Philly. We chat with Chef/Owner Justin Coleman (01:16:50 of episode) about the new 2,500 sq. feet space that will seat around 74 people inside and around two dozen outside, with room for more as they complete additional dining and event space. From the kitchen, foodies will find Bacon BBQ, Bacon Mac, Bacon Buffalo Sandwiches - and more handhelds, plus Bacon Burnt Ends, Bacon Caramel Pound Cake, Chocolate Covered Bacon, and Coleman's favorites Savory Brisket Waffle and Bacon Brisket Sandwich. The restaurant and bar will have a full liquor license with a menu of cocktails designed special to pair with the bacon-centric food offerings. Talking about bacon we even discussed 322 BBQ's triple smoked candied bacon. Steve Luttmann (23:10 of episode) of Hercules Mulligan Rum and Rye available at Reading Terminal Market joined us to describe how they started and the history of the name. A unique recipe from the era of revolution and self-determination, custom-tailored for the modern independent thinker. Perfectly balanced Caribbean Aged Rum & American Rye Whiskey create an equilibrium of duality. The Rum & Rye blend is combined with macerated, fresh organic ginger - not artificial flavors. And it's the essence of this magical root that gives the blend a kick and builds its distinctive character. The potion is finished with a dash of bespoke bitters that add that extra flavor. No fakery, only honest-to-God ingredients that capture the essence of a bittersweet life. A little more conversation about cocktails with Carey Jones & Mixologist John McCarthy (37:40 of episode) joined us to talk about their new book ‘Every Cocktail Has a Twist: Master 25 Classic Drinks and Craft More Than 200 Variations' published by Countryman Press. You love your favorite libations, but sometimes you want something different that you know you'll like. Providing all the tools you need to create delicious new concoctions, this comprehensive collection reconfigures 25 timeless tipples, from Bloody Marys, Daiquirís, and Manhattans to Margaritas, Negronis, and Old-Fashioneds. Jeremy Scheck (07:25 of episode) has charmed a new generation of home cooks with his simple yet remarkably tasty recipes and his reliable culinary know-how. Now, in this stunning and personal book ‘ScheckEats―Cooking Smarter: Friendly Recipes with a Side of Science' published by Harvest & William Morrow HarperCollins it is brimming with approachable recipes and step-by-step guidance. Jeremy shares the building blocks of what he calls culinary literacy: understanding why a recipe works and empowering readers to cook with confidence every day. Recipes are designed to minimize single-use ingredients and equipment (for example, all baking recipes are no-mixer-required), encouraging versatility with easily available essentials and Jeremy's favorite kitchen staples. If the young gourmands on MasterChef Junior are anything to go by, lots of kids are eager to get into the kitchen. We talked to Danielle Acken (01:43:05 of episode) about the new book ‘Let's Eat: Recipes for Kids Who Cook' published by TouchWood Editions. Seasoned cookbook author Danielle Acken, food stylist Aurelia Louvet, and their six proteges (age 7 to 17) are here to help. Let's Eat brings together kitchen basics, tools, terminology, and 60+ recipes with loads of variations to suit a range of tastes. You want to be the toast of town hosting a holiday gathering? Jackie "The Joke Man" Martling may be America's last great joke teller. His savant-like ability to remember every joke he's heard since he was eight years old, coupled with his lightning-fast wit and infectious laugh, has established him as a comedy icon. Famous for being the head writer of the Howard Stern show for 18 years, even more infamous for leaving that position, Jackie's story is fascinating, funny, and heartwarming. And in an age of political correctness, he still helps us belly-laugh at ourselves, and the world around us, with a kindness and sincerity that defuses his unfiltered punch lines. In the feature documentary JOKE MAN we follow Jackie's improbable journey - from fledgling days of comedy on Long Island, through his time as one of the “Beatles of Radio,” to his success as an author and actor. We hear from friends and fellow entertainers including Willie Nelson, Penn Jillette, Billy West, Artie Lang, Marc Cuban, Sean Young and former Stern show staffers who give us their take on what makes Jackie truly unique. JOKE MAN is a universal story of self-discovery, grit and how humor is the biggest key to authentic happiness.JOKE MAN is produced and directed by Ian Karr. Karr is the founder of the creative and content-driven production agency, IKA Collective. IKA's credits encompass television series, promos, commercials and original digital content. Notable clients include AMC Networks, WB/Discovery, Showtime, FOX, Hallmark Channel, United Airlines and NBC/Universal. Karr and IKA Collective have played integral roles in the successful launches and promotion of hit television series including Better Call Saul, Empire, Gotham, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Weeds, Dexter and Californication. The company received a Clio for its work on FX's American Horror Story: Cult. In addition to filmmaking, Karr spent 8 years at Sirius XM as co-host of Jackie's Joke Hunt, which aired on the Howard Stern Channels. JOKE MAN is produced and edited by Ronni Thomas. Thomas began his career with horror icons Troma, and in 2003 produced Hey Is Dee Dee Home alongside maverick filmmaker Lech Kowlaski. In 2020 he directed The Broken and the Bad, commissioned by AMC and the producers of Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul. His 2017 short film Walter Potter: The Man Who Married Kittens was nominated for best short doc at the Raindance Film Festival and the Tribeca Film Festival. His feature debut, The Kybalion, premiered in 2021 and won best documentary and best director at Italy's Life Beyond Life Film Festival.

There is a great deal of magic involved with comedy and there is a lot of good comedy involved in magic.  In the case of John Ferrentino, that statement can be taken literally.  The Long Island New York born and bred comedian has long been one of the most innovative forces on both the comedy and magic scene.  John's career began working with Bob Nelson, Eddie Murphy, Jackie The Joke Man Martling, and Rosie O'Donnell.  He went on to do numerous appearances on American National shows with his trademark catch phrase - Danger! In My Vermont Table, Bullock-Prado takes readers on a sweet and savory journey through each of these special seasons. Oh Canada, we'll have on the program Chef Dale Mackay. Touring the world as Gordon Ramsay's right-hand at his Michelin-starred restaurants, the first Top Chef Canada winner and AAA Five Diamond Award winning Chef Dale MacKay is gearing up for a huge 2023 as he competes in the new season of Bravo's Top Chef: World All-Stars. Another set of firsts, as The Nutty Professor and his not-so-able-bodied joking sidekick welcome the very funny & talented Michelle Durante, a former cop & still lesbian comedian, whose tales are as hysterical as they are different. You can't help but notice the fellas have left their flirting mechanisms home, as it would have been like telling a hair-raising story to a bald-headed man. But raucous of course prevails, as these three slosh around in the well of the clubs & stages & Green Rooms & craziness of their shared world. Michele Durante has been leaving them laughing in the aisles from coast to coast! She's cutting edge and – tackling subjects such as her own sexuality and her time on in the South Bronx as a New York City narcotics detective – she's guaranteed to be a hit at any comedy event. A Long Island native, Michele stays true to her roots and doesn't hold back… all in the interest of laughter and fun. As "Officer" Durante likes to tell her audiences: "One time I responded to the scene of a domestic dispute between two women. Luckily, I was able to get in the middle!"   Michele Durante has been leaving them laughing in the aisles from coast to coast!
