This week, the guys from FIFPRO are back, and this time, for a deep dive into the dynamics in the Asian football industry. FIFPRO, as you probably know is the global trade union, representing the voice of around 66.000 professional footballers and their national unions to ensure they are heard at the international level. Our guests are Takuya Yamazaki (FIFPRO Asia/Oceania Chair) and Brett Taylor (Head of Research and Policy at the Professional Footballers Association of Australia). The three of us have an interesting conversation that covers the report they have published analyzing the impact of the changes in the Asian Champions League on players and clubs. We look at it from different angles including performance, the commercial angle, or even travel logistics. Enjoy! World Football Summit: The football we want, and need. This podcast is for leaders who want to shape the future of the football (or soccer) industry. On this show, we will bring you closer to the people and the organizations who are driving change in the sports business industry all over the world. (pls include reply details if needed)The Japanese government should be treating decarbonisation with the outmost importance and urgency.  It is one of the largest energy consumers in the world – fifth largest oil consumer for example –and it is almost totally reliant on fossil fuel imports. The authorities did set out a net zero road map which has been broadly criticised for not being robust. Our guest, Mika Ohbayashi of the Renewable Energy Institute in Japan, is uniquely qualified to discuss the government's renewable energy past track record as well as its path going forward. In the episode, we also discuss the approach to various energy technologies including nuclear energy.ABOUT MIKA. Mika Ohbayashi is a Director at Japan's Renewable Energy Institute. Before joining the Institute, she worked for International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) as Policy and Project Regional Manager for Asia Oceania, in Abu Dhabi, from May 2010 to Aug 2011. She is one of two founders of Institute for Sustainable Energy Policies (ISEP), and served as Deputy Director for 8 years since its establishment in 2000. She also worked for UKFCO at the British Embassy to Japan, as Advisor for Climate Change Projects and Policies. She started her carrier in the energy fields by joining Citizens' Nuclear Information Center in 1992, after some years work experience. She coordinates many scientific study projects, takes leadership to team up various networks including national parliamentarians and local authorities, domestically and internationally to improve sustainable energy society. Welcome to another episode of the Dongfang Hour China Aero/Space News Roundup! This week we bring you updates on Galactic Energy, China’s maritime satcom industry and the product offerings therein, and China’s role in the regional EO market.1) Galactic Energy completed a RMB 200 million Series A funding round in September, a round that was announced last week. This is the company’s first round in ~11 months, having raised RMB 150M in Oct 2019. The company has now raised ~RMB 500 million across 4 rounds, a feat made even more remarkable by the fact that they were founded just under 3 years ago. Funding will go towards accelerating the development of the company’s Pallas-1 and Ceres-1 rockets. Galactic Energy is now quite likely one of the top 4 commercial launch companies in China, along with Landspace, iSpace, and Expace. This status in the “Big Four’ of China’s commercial launch sector was enhanced just a couple of days ago, when on November 7th 2020, Galactic Energy held the inaugural launch of its solid rocket the Ceres-1, becoming the 2nd private company in China to put a satellite into orbit after iSpace. Ceres-1, much like iSpace’s Hyperbola-1, is a small rocket with a capacity of 350 kg into LEO. While similar in propulsion technology, there are some definite slight differences between the two rockets (separation method, attitude control). Galactic Energy’s inaugural launch on the 7th was also noteworthy in that it was commercial, with the Ceres-1 rocket launching the Tianqi-11 satellite for Guodian Gaoke, a satellite manufacturer that plans to launch and operate the Tianqi constellation. 2) In the maritime space, we saw announced this week that the CASIC 2nd Academy, in partnership with the China Unicom Research Institute and the government of Zhoushan City, Zhejiang Province, completed China’s first “Low Orbit Broadband Satellite + 5G Maritime” test. While the article, which was originally published by the CASIC 2nd academy, does not explicitly mention Hongyun, the phrasing of LEO broadband satellite would almost certainly imply that the tests were using the Hongyun test satellite, launched in late 2018. Separately, as part of China’s 11/11 “Singles Day”, a huge online shopping day, we saw SinoSat release its 11/11 promotions for its Haixingtong maritime satcom service, which included 200MB of free data upon signing up, RMB 800 per year for unlimited voice. SinoSat is a ChinaSat subsidiary with focus on several high-value verticals with global requirements, i.e. maritime satcom, and has been building out a maritime satcom service for several years using satellite capacity from ChinaSat among others.3) Finally, the Asia-Oceania Group on Earth Observations (AO GEO) held a meeting in Changzhou early in the week. The event was attended by 15 countries and several international organizations. “China is playing an important role in the Asia-Oceania region, with the second highest number of remote sensing satellites in the world and its application of Earth observation shifting from experimental use to business services”, said Wang Qi’an, the director of the National Remote Sensing Center of ChinaThis has been another episode of the Dongfang Hour China Aero/Space News Roundup. Kia Ora whanau. Something different for you this week (and us, actually)!! Eugene and Matt bring you the first ever DCR live show, from inside Thomson Whisky Distillery at Hallertau Brewery. Nestled in amongst the copper stills were our hosts, an audience, a bunch of tasty beverages, and our guests- Dr James Kuegler and Mr Andrew McDowall.James Kuegler is a well established running coach, under his eponymous brand. James is a Dr of Chiropractic, and has represented New Zealand at the Oceania Trail Running Championships. James has a slew of other top results, being a previous Tarawera 60km winner, having a top ten finish at Kepler, and currently holding the course record at Total Sports brutal West Coaster adventure run. Currently, James has been “hanging out at athletics tracks” with his focus shifting more to junior athletes and his work with Papakura Athletic and Harrier Club. Having been veterans of several James Kuegler talks we were super excited to get James on to share his wisdom. As always, James is engaging, confronting, and entertaining, discussing the challenges and celebrations of the New Zealand trail running scene, how at the end of the day, we’re all just runners, and his favourite New Zealand events.Andrew McDowall went from a man who did the Rotorua Marathon on a whim with friends and subsequently moonwalked the last 10km of the Kepler challenge after demolishing his quadriceps, to being 5th at the Tarawera 100 mile endurance run and 4th at Northburn 100 mile 34 days later. Oh, did we mention that Andrew is just off to Taiwan to represent New Zealand at the Asia/Oceania 24 hour championships. Andrew is not a professional runner however, but a professional musician, having a degree in film score composition, owning his own studio, Digibake, and being a veteran of several bands, including playing trumpet for the globe striding Aotearoa reggae band Katchafire. Oh, and he also set up our live sound. Andrew is, to put it plainly, a good bastard. In fact, both our guest firmly fulfill the “good bastard” criteria, and you’ll be able to hear that as you listen to this freewheeling live conversation - complete with audience interaction, beer being spilled (thanks, Tom and Thee Dave), along with various other diverse alarums and excursions. We’d like to formally thank both Thomson Whisky and Hallertau Brewery for their enthusiasm for the idea and their boundless generosity. We had a blast doing it and we hope you’ll have a blast listening. Enjoy!
