What motivates Joel Bervell, a.k.a. the Medical Mythbuster, to create social media content addressing racial disparities, the hidden history of medicine, and biases in healthcare? He's seen how it can literally save lives. A year after Bervell posted a video about disparities in pulse oximeters for Black patients, a man reached out to share that during the pandemic, he had reported to the hospital with shortness of breath, a fever and COVID symptoms. The pulse oximeter reported 100% oxygen saturation, so he was told to go home. “But he felt horrible, and he had recently seen my video” showing pulse oximeters can report falsely high oxygen readings in Black patients, Bevell says. “And so he told the doctors.. I want to stay here at the hospital. Is that okay?” The doctors let him stay, and the man ended up crashing the night, ending up in the ICU with intubation. He's grateful he survived, and later reached out to Bervell to say, “because of your video, I felt confident being able to say, ‘I don't know if this is accurate for me, I don't feel well. I want to stay.'” Bervell says this is why he creates videos like these, to help people understand medical issues “so they can feel confident to let their needs be known” to health care providers. Reiki master Brett Bevell is author of several books, including Psychic Reiki, The Wizard's Guide to Energy Healing, The Reiki Magic Guide to Self-Attunement, and Reiki for Spiritual Healing. Brett is also a pioneer in the field of energy healing apps, first exploring this concept in 2013 through his book New Reiki Software for Divine Living, and now offering his energy healing work through the Soulvana App by Mindvalley. Since receiving his Reiki master initiation in 1995, Bevell has dedicated himself to discovering new Reiki techniques that work collaboratively with the higher self. These simple techniques are not only highly effective, but also shift Reiki into a practice of daily living that can transform even the most mundane aspects of our lives into works of healing. Brett's clients include several Hollywood stars and screenwriters, and he is publicly endorsed by Carrie Ann Inaba from ABC's Dancing with the Stars. Also, a poet and performance artist, Brett is author of America Needs a Woman President, and America Needs a Buddhist President, a poem that initially aired nationwide on NPR's All Things Considered. Bevell has electrified audiences around the world with his live oral recitations, and he has often been compared to the late poet Allen Ginsberg. Headlines and a conversation about Pete Carroll getting the band back together in Vegas. - Carroll is rumored to be bringing back Bevell, Cable and even Russell??? :30- The NFL Draft is 3 months away and it's never too early to start thinking about Draftmas. - We might need to incorporate colors into our Draftmas celebrations this year. Every holiday has a color scheme… blue and silver? Taupe? - This year seems to be a down year as far as the draft class goes. Hawblogger said there are only 10 guys who would be considered 1st round draft picks by every team. - When the draft class is down, there's no worse place to be picking than the teens… :45- Time to get Reckless at Breakfast and it's a controversial one! Chuck has decided, against all recommendations to rank… SOUPS! Do you agree or disagree with his rankings?
On this month's M2P podcast, you'll join the conversation we had with wife, mom, and writer Carrie Bevel Partridge. Carrie and her husband, Kevin, have five children, two of whom they adopted from Colombia in 2016. They have been right in the middle of parenting struggles for a long time, and Carrie has a lot to say about our focus this month, “When Parenting Hurts.” Throughout the podcast, we will discuss her article, When Parenting Hurts: A Resource for Moms and Dads. This resource is full of ideas for parents to think through when they are going through hard times as a family. Carrie has been creating resources for families for over a decade, and her hope is to support, encourage, and offer hope to families as they navigate real life. This episode does just that.

Parents & Addicts in Need's Founder Flindt Andersen and Jason LaChance sat down with Brock Bevell. Brock and former Arizona Cardinal Max Hall have the podcast, Agents of Recovery and then they opened Victory Recovery, a counseling center for recovering addicts. We discuss the challenges of helping people get treatment when the illicit fentanyl supply is being mixed into the entire drug supply. As well we also talk about the large amounts of government money that is being spent on methods of harm reduction that don't actually present the suffering addict with the opportunity to seek real treatment, and the option to live a sober and prosperous life. I started the 75 hard and refused to go backwards. Creating the right mindset to accomplish all the tasks had to be set at day one. But, as you know, there are so many justifiable reasons to quit. Here are the three most repeated reasons people quit in recovery, in the weight loss journey, at church, school or any other valuable goal. 1. I don't have time. 2. I'm not motivated. 3. I don't know where to start. There are solutions to each of these justification. Make a plan and script it. Stick to the plan one day at a time until you master your mind! PTS is a highly discussed topic amongst first responders. We carry external and internal wounds that never seem to heal. It is my hope that this episode will help anyone suffering with PTS understand that it is an anxiety disorder and not an incurable disease. There are four common symptoms that accompany PST. They are: 1. Re-Experiencing the event. 2. Avoidance: Avoiding the people, places or situations that remind us of the event. 3. Hyperarousal: Felling on edge on on Red all the time. 4. Negative thoughts and beliefs about yourself and others. We also discuss signs and symptoms that are directly associated with PTS. If you are a spouse, family member of friends to a first responder, this podcast is for you. It will help you understand emotions and feelings associated with PTS. I also discuss an amazing tool that can be used today to start the process of healing from this disorder. One of my favorite people in the world is Brock Bevell. He and I could take for hours, but we kept it to 40 minutes of great content for you. Brock Bevell is a well-regarded family man with 7 children, six daughters and one son. He is a retired Police Officer who was run over on duty and ultimately retired from the injuries. The injuries caused him to endure numerous knee surgeries and constant rehabilitation. To deal with the pain, he was prescribed opioids. After months and months of therapy, the department and doctors made the determination that his injuries would prevent him from doing the job effectively and could place others at risk. It was decided that he would be medically retired from the department. For the next few years, Brock struggled with being retired. The day after turning in his equipment, he felt ostracized and not a part of the brotherhood. This was a huge blow to his ego. One day you're chasing bad guys and the next you're picking up your kid's toys. It was a difficult transition. It was at this time that Brock's addiction took control of his emotions and he began to spin out of control, and he proceeded to self-medicate himself. During the height of his addiction, he went through a very difficult divorce. He lost time with his children and made poor decisions costing him his children's trust. Since recovering from his addiction, Brock has helped hundreds of men and women combat addiction. He utilizes an unconventional approach to recovery. This approach continues to lead men and women to lasting sobriety. My next guest is Brock Bevell, Director Of Operations at Chase The Vase, Keynote Speaker. This episode is a blast so you'd definitely need to watch it!
This podcast episode covers a very tender topic and I hope that I was able to express my viewpoint as a follower of Christ. Yesterday, I was called to do a wellfare check on a friend of mine who is actively struggling with alcohol. When I arrived, it was obvious that he was highly intoxicated and was in no position to carry on a conversation. As I got up to leave, he said, "Brock, how did you beat your addiction?" I realized that this was not the time or place to hold this conversation. I, like many of you listening have struggled with addiction and I remember being angry with God for not removing the addiction from me. For some reason, I was under the assumption, that my faithfulness had something to do with Him not wanting to save me. I have since learned, that it is only through Him that I can be saved, but I first had to put in the work! I pray you feel of the Light of Christ as you listen to this episode and are moved to share it with those who need this message. I challenge you to share this with one person who needs Christ today. This is an invitation to pursue Him! Make sure you check out the Take10Movement Facebook Page. Keep Chasing The Vase. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/brock-m-bevell/support
There is a phenomenon that has slithered it's way into the recovery space that plagues many. This topic of conversation is not popular but needs to be discussed. It occurs when those in active addiction begin to marginalize, justify or minimize the need for active recovery. These folks take up a charge to destroy those in recovery, because they themselves cannot reach it. You see these individuals on social media blasting those who share their recovery story or daily progress. They create the vibe that being "kinda sober" or "cutting back" is a viable recovery solution. Don't confuse my energy with those who promote harm reduction. I am talking about those who want to destroy or downplaying the need to get sober. Those in recovery see these folks on a daily basis. We have unfriended them because of the toxicity they create in our lives. Remember, If it does not build me, improve me or make me smile, it is not needed. Hope you enjoy the free content. I want to look act and feel like a million bucks, but I have a minimum wage work ethic! In order to accomplish great things, your alter ego has to go. There is no way we can be consistently consistent with the negative voice fighting the process. We have to learn to set the alarm and do. Not set the alarm, push snooze and then go back to bed. Each time the voice wins, we loose power. We give our power away until it becomes too difficult to overcome it. Prime example is January 1st of any year. The gyms are packed and energy is high. The desire to look better, feel better, be stronger, slimmer and sexier is at an all time high. Until day 3 and 4 and f5 arrive. The body starts to hurt and the energy and excitement dies. This is the perfect storm. five days into January, the gyms are empty. The voice wins again and we fail to achieve our goals. Let's change that. Let's prepare to win. Hope to hear from you soon. Happy Veterans Day! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/brock-m-bevell/support

It was decided that I would be medically retired from the department. For the next few years, I struggled with being retired. The day after turning in my equipment, I felt ostracized and not a part of the brotherhood. I honestly felt like I lost my support team. I had not access to the building, I could not walk in and see my partners. They were busy and I felt they had forgotten about me. This was a huge blow to my ego. One day you're chasing bad guys and the next you're picking up your kid's toys. It was a difficult transition. It was at this time, that my addiction took control of my emotions and I began to spin out of control, and I proceeded to self-medicate myself. During the height of my addiction, I went through a very difficult divorce. I lost time with my children and made poor decisions costing me my children's trust. The one thing people do not understand is that addiction destroys everything. Well I allowed it to destroy everything. I let it get out of control and I lost my way in the process. I made the decisions to hurt those I loved. I wish I could blame the addiction or the disease or my broken moral compass but ultimately it was me and I had to own it. Ownership is the only way to recover from an addiction. 11 years later, no relapses, no excuses! Thanks for allowing me to post my strength and hope!

Welcome back to the Mr. Stutts Podcast! Today on the show, I am pleased to bring to you Brock Bevell, from Chase The Vase. Brock's story may seem different to some of us, but way too familiar to much of North America. Brock was an undercover cop in the world of narcotics. After an injury in the line of duty, he was introduced to the world of opiods as a user, by the sneakiest drug dealers out there, his doctors. Brock tells the story of coming up as a police officer, what fighting drugs meant to him, and the fateful day that changed it all. He breaks down his fight with addiction and the incredible road back to sobriety and a full, purpose driven life. Chase the Vase is a program designed to help you through the first 30 days of sobriety and beyond! This week, on the agents of recovery podcast, we hear Brock Bevell's story. Brock speaks openly about his life, his work as a police officer and undercover agent, which ultimately led him to addiction's doorstep. Brock speaks about how important it is to stand up and take your place in recovery. He has figuratively broad shoulders by which he has carried his recovery, his work with those struggling with addiction, and the re-establishment of relationships.
