Clever Cookie Academy has taken the local tutoring world by storm with their colourful branding and commitment to make learning fun. Peita and Rob started with two students in a shed and have grown into an established academy working from an entire office floor, helping over 400 students tackle their learning challenges and excel. Peita is a Minister's Award for Excellence in Teaching recipient for achieving record-breaking HSC results. She is a teacher trainer, expert speaker, and lover of literature. She's a pusher and is renowned for her dogged determination to help her students achieve incredible results.Prior to teaching, Peita worked in the film industry for Walt Disney Pictures, Sony Pictures and Universal Pictures as a National Publicity and Promotions Manager. Hobbies include baking at inappropriate hours and lurking outside of her comfort zone. Rob absolutely HATED mathematics as a child (unlike a lot of maths teachers), and it is believed this is the precise reason he's so good at explaining its tricky concepts to students. His background in the corporate sector means that he always links his teaching of mathematical concepts to a real-world setting, tackling the ‘when will I EVER use this in my life' question, head on. Rob's never give up mentality is known to rub off on his students and he is forever providing outside of hours support to Cookies stuck on maths problems. This interview is an inspiring look into a husband and wife team who took a leap into business and never looked back.
Fintechs dominate Africa's tech industry, and for good reason. For instance, in 2021, two-thirds of venture funding raised by African startups went to fintechs. 6 out of Africa's 8 unicorns are also fintechs. Although the entry of fintechs into African financial services first seemed like a threat to traditional players, particularly banks, that is fast changing. Today, banks are seeing fintechs less as competitors and more as partners as it has become clearer that collaboration is what the industry needs to enter into a new wave of growth. On Friday, April 22nd, for the first edition of the Ecobank Fintech Breakfast series, several industry experts spoke about what these fintech-bank collaborations entail and how they can benefit both sides. They included Tomilola Majekodunmi, CEO of Bankly, Gbenga Ajayi - Partner, QED Investors, Daniel Ahouassa -Co-founder and Co- CEO, Weblogy, Isaac Kamuta - Group Head: Cash - Payments, Cash Management and Client Access, Ecobank Group, and Tayo Oviosu, Founder and CEO, Paga Group. They discussed how to identify the right partners, how to structure partnerships that work, how to manage the challenges that may arise from partnering, and how to expand across the continent by leveraging partnerships

CreativeMornings is a national breakfast lecture series with local chapters that host free, monthly meetups with revolving themes, speakers and venues. And thanks to resident Olivia Lehman, Fort Wayne became an official part of the network this past January. The concept is deceptively simple. One Friday a month, attendees are invited to gather to enjoy fresh coffee, friendly people, and an international array of breakfast foods, while learning about a new and thought provoking topic. Always ready to find out what the local creatives are up to, WBOI's Julia Meek sat down with Lehman to discuss this concept's scope and popularity, as well as her personal motivation for sharing it with the community. WBOI Artcentric is brought to you by WBOI's own Julia Meek and Ben Clemmer. Our theme music is “Me voy pal campo'' by KelsiCote. Our administrative assistants are Olivia Fletter and Keegan Lee. Our production assistants are Alex Castonzo, Steve Mullaney, and Sydney Wagner.

The 2019 election campaign is under way. The parties have made major policy announcements. But so far, much of the commentary has focused on political bombshells. When we don’t talk policy as much as we should, that’s a shame. First, because the announcements leaders make are good markers of their party’s election strategy. But more than that, because whoever forms government is going to be making good on a number of these election promises. And a healthy policy debate is crucial for citizens looking to make informed political choices. That’s why, over the next several weeks, we’ll be highlighting the policy issues on the campaign trail by covering the three panel discussions in Policy Options’ new Election 2019 Breakfast Series. The events are being held in Ottawa in partnership with the Max Bell School of Public Policy and sponsored by the CBC. This panel explores emerging policy themes. It features Mike De Souza, Tasha Kheiriddin, and Jennifer Robson, and is moderated by Jennifer Ditchburn. For more information, go to: https://policyoptions.irpp.org/po-events/election-2019-breakfast-series/ Download for free. New episodes every second Wednesday. Tweet your questions and comments to @IRPP or @jbugiel.
Did you miss our Breakfast Series event last week? We have you covered on today’s podcast episode.
