Wheatus have been here that many times they would almost be classed as Australians. After a whirlwind 2024 that saw the band Down Under twice, once in February for acoustic shows with Art from Everclear and again with Wheatus in April for the Pandemonium Festival, frontman Brendan B Brown has become a beloved fixture in the Aussie music scene. The Wheatus sets at Pandemonium were one of the standout moments of the day, finding that perfect balance between stoking the fires of nostalgia and putting on a killer rock 'n' roll show. The Wheatus Acoustic Tour next January and February is shaping up to be the most fun you can have indoors this summer. Featuring Wheatus frontman and incredibly nice guy, Brendan B. Brown along with his better half, fellow Wheatus member Gabrielle Sterbenz, the epic 14 date run also features founding member and former lead guitarist, songwriter, and vocalist of The Chats, Josh ‘Pricey' Price.HEAVY spent some time with Brendan recently, where we spoke about just about everything.Brendan shared that Australia was the first place to embrace Wheatus' music, especially the song Teenage Dirtbag, and that they were grateful for the support they received there. We discussed his approach to music and live performances, emphasizing the importance of connecting with the audience and not taking himself too seriously. He explained his method of tailoring each show to the audience's mood and requests, which he finds more engaging than a set list. Brendan also shared his experiences with touring and maintaining a positive band dynamic, highlighting the importance of respect and camaraderie among band members. He expressed his excitement for an upcoming acoustic show, where he and his partner Gabrielle will share stories and play songs from their catalogue and more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

Send us a textWheatus, the alternative rock band best known for their hit single "Teenage Dirtbag," continues to make waves in the music scene over two decades after their initial rise to fame. Formed in 1995 by Brendan B. Brown in Northport, New York, Wheatus captured the spirit of teenage angst and rebelliousness with "Teenage Dirtbag," a song that has since become an anthem for countless fans worldwide. The track, with its catchy chorus and relatable lyrics, skyrocketed the band to international success in 2000, earning them a permanent place in pop culture.Despite the ever-changing landscape of the music industry, Wheatus has managed to maintain a loyal fan base and remain active, thanks in part to their commitment to evolving their sound while staying true to their roots. The band's ability to blend alternative rock with pop sensibilities has enabled them to carve out a unique niche, allowing them to tour globally and perform for audiences that span multiple generations. Their live shows are known for their energy, humor, and, of course, crowd-pleasing renditions of "Teenage Dirtbag."Recently, Wheatus made an appearance on the Midwest Mixtape Podcast, where they discussed their enduring career, the staying power of their music, and their excitement about their upcoming tour. The band members shared anecdotes from their journey, reflecting on how they have managed to stay relevant in a rapidly changing music environment. They also talked about the creative process behind some of their new material and the importance of connecting with their audience, both old and new.Wheatus's latest venture sees them hitting the road with fellow pop-punk legends Bowling for Soup. Fans in the Midwest will have a chance to see Wheatus live when they play a show in St. Louis on Friday, September 6th. This concert promises to be a high-energy, nostalgia-filled event, with both bands delivering their iconic hits and some fresh surprises. Wheatus's performances are a celebration of their music's resilience and their fans' unwavering support. As they prepare for the St. Louis show, Wheatus remains as passionate as ever about making music and performing. Brendan B. Brown and his bandmates continue to write new songs and experiment with different sounds, ensuring that Wheatus remains a dynamic force in the music scene. In Stan By Me's first episode back, we speak to Brendan B. Brown of the teenage dirtbags that are WHEATUS. When the frontman of Joey's favourite band offered her the position to help out on tour aged 19, she was working part-time at Gloucester's Woolworths with little sense of direction. Joining the Wheatus touring family via the merch table, she subsequently met the people who would become her closest friends and... married the current bassist(!) Now living in New York, Joey finds herself in the same band that she had posters of when she was a teenager. INCREDIBLE.

Matter of fact, some episodes are "taped live with a studio audience", so please go and subscribe (https://www.youtube.com/c/duelingdecades). We hope to see you in the chat! Anyways, we got another good one for you this week! Well, a bad one? I suppose it depends on how you look at it, but we're back with another "Worst of May" match-up! This week, we're joined by the amazing frontman of the band Wheatus, Brendan B. Brown! Brendan tossed some teenage dirtbag out of his chair, grabbed the gavel, and he was ready to judge these contestants: First up, from parts kinda known, Joe Findlay digs deep, and brings us the worst May 1979 has to offer. Next up, straight from a late-night Round House screening, Marc James brings a double deuce of picks from, May 1989. Finally, rounding out the competition, the man voted most likely to not wear JNCOs, Mancrush delivers the worst of May 1999! Stick around after the competition for a campfire chat with Brendan, AND a live rendition of "Teenage Dirtbag" that will give you chills. In this episode, you might hear something about dirty judges, a boat that should have sank, young republicans that Brendan doesn't buy, Marvel tries again, a ship that DOES sink, models taking dumps, Jim West is not a rapper, 28-minute songs, sweaty cocaine music, television murders, assassinations and riots, the tale of the hero sausage, an operation you never played, Japanese stuff, worthless toys that caused a commotion, and just what is the story behind Teenage Dirtbag anyway?! All this week and more! Do you agree with Brendan's rulings? Look for us tonight at 9pmEST with our friend Judge David Schultz on YouTube! Please don't forget to subscribe and review! Brendan B. Brown has always inspired me - I was a fan of his band when I was in high school and we ended up working and recording together about 13 years ago. In this episode, we talk about Marshall McClure's "Medium is the Message" essay and how it relates to people's memories of "Teenage Dirtbag", the band's breakthrough hit. We also talk about our shared love of Rush and how we think Spotify is both a good and bad thing. Thanks for listening! Special Guest: Brendan B. Brown.

The Third Story Podcast with Leo Sidran

Talking to Brendan B. Brown about his life and music is like talking to a dozen guys at once. There’s the singer-songwriter - the guy who wrote the hit song “Teenage Dirtbag” and created the band Wheatus nearly 2 decades ago, and who has been riding that wave ever since. This is the guy who writes brilliant, provocative, genre bending pop songs, and who tours stadiums in the UK and Australia. There’s the kid who grew up in a “lobster town in decline” on long island in the 80s and was sent to an all boys high school an hour away because his parents panicked after a satanic murder took place in the woods behind his house. This is the guy who ultimately ended up moving into the extra house on his parents property, building a work-live space and staying there well into adulthood. There’s the gear geek - the one who wants to know about each microphone, guitar amp, drum head and compressor used on all the records he loves. This is the guy who remembers every piece of equipment he ever bought and can explain why he cares deeply for the kind of equipment that most people would find little value in. There’s the punk from the east village - the guy who spent the 90s at the Mercury Lounge and the Luna Lounge, attacking New York city with a raw, DIY “anti” attitude that he continues to carry with him to this day. There’s the music fan. (This is the episode in which more specific examples of music have been given than any other on the Third Story before.) At the core, Brendan is a natural, self taught, self invented, homebody who seems to be firing on all cylinders at all times. He is intensely curious and passionate about what he does, what he thinks, what he thinks he does, and what he does about what he thinks. I recently met with Brendan in his studio on Long Island - the same one where he has recorded almost all of his albums, and which happens to be on the property where he grew up. Here he talks about the power and responsibility of writing a hit song, what it’s like to have your dreams come true, and how to recover when they don't. The episode features an introductory conversation with my old friend and musical collaborator Joy Dragland.  Thanks for listening.
