In this inspiring episode, former New Age practitioner and author, Caroline Dooner, joins us for a third time (check out episodes #57 & 58 for her first two appearances with us) as she opens up about her incredible journey of healing and the profound shift in her perspective on life. She candidly discusses her previous belief that controlling and healing every aspect of her life was necessary, a mindset that ultimately became overwhelming and daunting. Caroline shares about a pivotal moment in her life—a significant dental health challenge—that led her to surrender to God's plan. This experience helped her realize that healing doesn't require perfection. Instead, it calls for trust and peace in the Lord. This newfound understanding brought a profound shift in her approach to healing and life. Join us as we chat with Caroline about the difference between her work before and after her spiritual conversion, emphasizing how God's guidance now plays a central role in her life. She discusses her journey of embracing change, finding authenticity, and surrendering to God's plan. Caroline also shares how she has overcome internal chaos, navigated misunderstandings, and dealt with unpopularity by staying true to herself. Throughout our conversation, Caroline highlights the importance of embracing nuance, asking questions, and finding joy in nature. She emphasizes the value of disconnecting from technology to reconnect with oneself and the world around us. Author, influencer and ex-New Age follower Caroline Dooner joins Blake to share her journey from disordered eating and new age spirituality to Christianity. Despite dabbling in witchcraft and the occult, seeds were planted that kept pointing her to Jesus as the answer. A Christian conspiracy theorist's testimony of going from a New Age psychic medium to a Jesus follower through supernatural experiences started chipping away at Caroline's worldview. Ultimately, Caroline found that calling on the name of Jesus brought instantaneous peace and freedom from the fear, anxiety and demonic torment she had been experiencing. In this episode, you'll be able to… Recognize how God can use imperfect messengers and circumstances to gradually open people's eyes to the truth of who He is. Discover how Jesus relentlessly pursues the lost and draws them to himself, even when they are not seeking him. Learn how seeds of truth about Jesus can be planted even in the midst of deception. Today's episode is part 2 of our powerful conversation with guest Caroline Dooner, a former New Age practitioner and author, who shares her profound journey from the depths of the New Age movement to the embrace of Christianity. She provides a candid exploration of her Catholic upbringing, initial misunderstandings of Jesus, and the allure of the New Age's promises of personal power. Caroline discusses the darker aspects of the New Age, including encounters with a shaman and the surprising link between New Age practices and dominatrix experiences. Delve into the spiritual power and consequences of New Age practices, as Caroline narrates her experiences with energy work, chakra healing, and the unsettling encounters with the demonic. She emphasizes the importance of discernment and surrender to God's will in navigating the complex world of spiritual beliefs. This episode serves as a cautionary tale, shedding light on the potential pitfalls and deceptive allure of New Age ideologies. Caroline's journey also touches upon her exploration of conspiracy theories, leading her to question her beliefs and seek a genuine connection with God. The episode concludes with her transformative decision to quit drinking, the challenges she faced in moderation, and the ultimate realization that sobriety was the path to true well-being. Takeaways The New Age movement encompasses various beliefs and practices centered around seeking special knowledge about spirituality and the universe. The New Age often promotes a self-centered focus, where individuals believe they can manifest their desires and become their own gods. The New Age movement can be enticing due to its promises of personal power and freedom, but it can lead to spiritual confusion and a distorted understanding of God. Engaging in New Age practices can open doors to spiritual influences and have unintended consequences, highlighting the importance of discernment and surrender to God's will. New Age beliefs and practices can lead to spiritual oppression and demonic encounters. Energy work and chakra healing may provide temporary relief but can also open doors to negative spiritual influences. Questioning and researching different belief systems can lead to a deeper understanding of the truth. Surrendering to God and embracing faith can bring relief, peace, and protection from darkness. Quitting drinking can be a challenging process, but it can lead to significant physical and mental benefits. Trying to moderate drinking can often be more stressful and detrimental to one's well-being than not drinking at all. Overcoming social pressure to drink can be empowering and liberating. Making the decision to stop drinking can be a transformative experience. Connect with Caroline at carolinedooner.com, carolinedooner.substack.com and over on instagram @carolinedooner. In this look back, we head to May, 2022, when Clemmie explored burn out with writer, humourist, ex-professional actress & singer Caroline Dooner, who wrote the The F*ck It Diet, all about her relationship with food and dieting, and Tired as F*ck, all about her "exhaustion & two years of rest". Ten years ago Caroline started writing a blog called The Fuck It Diet as she tried to heal her relationship with food, and learn about the dark side of dieting. What she learned about food and weight changed her life. If you struggle with your relationship with food, the The F*ck It Diet is for you. In 2016, four years after she healed her relationship with food, she realised she was exhausted, burnt out, and...filled with existential dread. Her second book, Tired as F*ck, is about how she got back on her feet and her "years being a neurotic little b*tch". Read the beginning here! Learn more about your ad choices. Embodiment for the Rest of Us - Season 2, Episode 7: Jennifer Radke Chavonne (she/her) and Jenn (she/her) interviewed Jenn Radke (she/her) about her embodiment journey. Jennifer Radke is the host of the podcast, Fat Girl Book Club, and a podcasting coach. Her body image journey started with sneaking cookie dough out of the deep freezer at the age of eight, moved through a bunch of different diets, at least three goal weight celebrations, two bodybuilding competitions and culminated in an eating disorder. When she finally figured out that she would never diet her way to self-love, she started reading. We've all heard of someone “getting canceled”. Most people, especially entrepreneurs in the online space, have a healthy fear of being canceled. But, what really happens on the other side of being canceled? These days you can get canceled for nearly anything. It can be incredibly stressful to speak your mind or voice your opinions in the current climate. But, as I always say not talking is going to cause you more distress and harm than allowing yourself to speak up! Welcome to episode 9 of Rebel by Design! In this episode, I'm chatting with my first guest, Caroline Dooner. Caroline is an accomplished author, friend, and an example of why cancel culture is toxic. We are laying it all out! From the politics of the anti-diet space to exactly what happened when Caroline got canceled (for no good reason). In this talk, Caroline is as witty and irreverent as ever and offers a fresh perspective on this cultural phenomenon. We're all just humans trying to navigate this life. My hope is that this conversation shows you a new perspective on cancel culture. And hopefully, inspire you to choose introspection and nuance over reactivity. I love you, Catie Love the show? Everyone's favorite expletive features prominently in two popular, recent episodes on caring and radical rest, featuring author Kat Vellos and author Caroline Dooner.Kat's and Caroline's clever usage of the once-taboo "F- word" in their own unique ways have sparked really poignant, insightful social observations and meaningful conversations about topics like caring about outcomes (in a time that feels so exhausting that giving up feels like a relief), developing friends and community in adulthood, rejecting self-punishment culture, and the idea of radical permission to rest in an age of anxiety.Kat Vellos is tired of hearing people on social media tell this one story: "I'm out of f**ks to give!" While the declaration started out as good-humored—a way to jest and say, "I'm just so over it!"—today, she says, the story behind the saying now reeks of toxic individuality. Kat is the author of two books, We Should Get Together: The Secret to Cultivating Better Friendships and Connected from Afar: A Guide for Staying Close When You're Far Away.Caroline Dooner is tired as f*ck of the pressures of self-help, diet culture, and trying to fix her supposed imperfections. A humorist and storyteller, Caroline blends humor with vulnerable memoir-style storytelling to share her history as a chronic dieter, her experience with undiagnosed eating disorders since childhood, and some really blistering social observations about modern burn-out culture. Caroline is the author of two books, The F*ck It Diet: Eating Should Be Easy (Spanish version), and Tired as F*ck: Burnout at the Hands of Diet, Self-Help, and Hustle Culture. This 'Best Of' episode highlights excerpts from these two popular, recent episodes. Caroline Dooner is tired as f*ck of the pressures of self-help, diet culture, and trying to fix her supposed imperfections.A humorist and storyteller, Caroline is the author of two books, The F*ck It Diet: Eating Should Be Easy (Spanish version), and Tired as F*ck: Burnout at the Hands of Diet, Self-Help, and Hustle Culture. Far from a typical "self-help" writer, Caroline blends a characteristic sense of humor with really honest and vulnerable memoir-style storytelling to share her personal history as a chronic dieter, her experience with undiagnosed eating disorders since childhood, and some really blistering social observations about modern burn-out culture. Tired as F*ck explores the pressures that we all feel to constantly self-improve and be hyper-productive, including how toxic it really can be to feel like we have to become the "best versions of ourselves." She offers, instead, the idea of granting oneself "radical permission to rest" starting with letting go of some of the pressures we place upon ourselves, every day.In this interview, Caroline shares…Why restrictive, calorie-deficit dieting is proven to not work, according to modern scienceHow modern diet culture reflects our society's anxious urge to over-control our livesThe ways in which our busyness culture numbs the pain of being human, in socially acceptable waysWhy we need to practice associating within the body more through feeling, and the mind lessThank you to Caroline Dooner for joining us on The New Story Is!If you enjoyed this episode, please rate and review our show wherever you listen—it helps others find and enjoy our show.Support our authors, our show, and local/independent bookstores at our Bookshop.org Affiliate BookstoreSend us questions, comments, and concerns, or nominate a guest at TheNewStory.Is/PodcastRiverside.fm: Record high-quality audio and video for your interviews, like we doAcast: Publish your podcast the world over, with plans starting at $0/yrOur theme song is by Coma MediaLearn more about The New Story Company at TheNewStory.is Affiliate Disclosure: Our show is supported by listeners, including small commissions that we may earn through affiliate links. {EXPLICIT} "I thought that once I healed my 'issues,' not only would I be too spiritual to be upset about things, but I'd also be hot." After the success of her book The F*ck It Diet, Caroline Dooner was BURNT OUT. After repeating many of the same patterns that led her to give up dieting forever, and recognizing her obsession with self-help and her ideas of "perfection," she finally got it. In her latest book, Tired as F*ck, Caroline shares how she experienced burnout with diet, hustle & self-improvement culture, and what happened when she took stock and started saying no to bullsh*t expectations and YES to what she truly wanted to live life on HER terms. Hello Beautiful Humans! This week I'm sharing another interview from my Radical Self-Acceptance as Activism series I hosted in collaboration with the Seattle Public Library! In this episode, I'm speaking with Caroline Dooner, humorist, storyteller and author of The F*ck It Diet and Tired as F*ck. She spent years as a performer, and dieted like it was her job (because it kind of was). After healing her relationship to food, she's been sharing what she learned ever since. She excels at explaining *why* we have such a dysfunctional relationship with food and weight through a combination of storytelling, scientific studies, and humor. In this talk we explore:Caroline's journey from food obsession and extreme dieting to physical and mental healthHow we're metabolically wired to fail at dietingWhat really causes food “addiction” and how to feel less addictedWhy your ability to “successfully” diet and maintain weight loss is not your faultHow the diet industry drives health policy at the institutional level (and why that's extremely messed up)Why weight is not an indicator of healthHow many of us use dieting to distract ourselves from our feelings and how to stop and start reconnecting to yourselfWhy rest is so important for healing your relationship with your bodyWhat you get back and how your life expands when you stop dieting See the full show notes hereGet your Free 2022 Intention Setting Guide & sign up for our mailing list hereLionesse websiteCome say Hi

In this week's episode of the Diet Obsessed Podcast, we discuss how to maintain weight loss once you've reached your goal. Then we review a recent episode of The F*ck It Diet Podcast, with host Caroline Dooner and guest Catie Lynch, who is a therapist and coach, specializing in Eating Disorders. Caroline and Catie dive deep into cancel culture and how the anti-diet movement can be just as extreme as diet culture. Both of these ladies have faced getting canceled on Instagram for saying "the wrong thing" and discuss the trauma of getting attacked for simple statements, jokes, being their authentic selves and taking up space in the world. While they still don't support diet culture, they also feel anti-diet culture can be just as harmful, when used in a toxic way.If you're interested in these topics, you will love this show! In this weeks episode of The Diet Obsessed Podcast, we discuss getting on the scale, seeing fluctuations and how de-motivating that can be. We talk about a recent Chelsea Handler podcast where she discusses how she used to obsessively weigh herself 6-7 times a day to ensure she stayed below 130 lbs. We then break down a recent episode of Diet Starts Tomorrow from Betches, with guest Caroline Dooner author of The Fuck It Diet. Caroline, along with hosts Sami and Aleen, discuss non-scale wins, creating healthy habits and the joy that can come from moving your body. Later in the show, we analyze a couple Dear DST letters, which could be very triggering to some. TRIGGER WARNING - if you don't want to hear eating disorder talk, the first letter was from a woman with a serious eating disorder who had to deal with destructive comments from her professor. The second letter was from a female physician who had to deal with VERY inappropriate comments from a man, who was completely out of line and needed to be put in his place. We feel all the feelings with these Dear DST letters: outrage, disgust, disbelief, shock, anger, frustration, vulnerability and we break it all down in this episode of The Diet Obsessed Podcast. Our third book club episode is on The F*ck It Diet by Caroline Dooner. In this episode we provide an overview of the book and discuss key takeaways that resonated most with each of us (e.g., trust your body, the crisis/famine state we put our bodies in when we diet, the power of making all foods legal). We share about our own relationships with food and our bodies. We also debrief on our #liethefuckdown challenge, inspired by Dooner's recommendation to lie down for 10 minutes/day. CW: Eating disorder, diet culture, weight loss I love personal development books about business, confidence, motivation, everything — but one thing I hate about them is that they almost always end up making a reference to dieting when they're trying to make a point about consistent habits. When I started recovery from ED I started seeing how pervasive diet culture messages are everywhere. They're on TV, in books, even in self help books that have nothing to do with food or dieting or health. For this reason, I will never compare motivation or habit building to food, dieting, or exercise. Dieting and mindset work are NOT the same thing.
