Guess what, folks? Christmas Clatter is returning for another round of holiday cheer! Todd's got some exciting stuff lined up for this season. He'll be spilling the tea on why the show's run is a bit shorter this year, and he's also going to share his thoughts on a new Christmas song by Brett Eldredge. Todd thinks it's an instant classic, so you know it's going to be good!Brett Eldredge, known for his smooth, rich voice, has become a holiday favorite with his Christmas music. He first introduced fans to his festive sound in 2016 with the release of *Glow*, an album blending timeless Christmas standards and original songs with a big band, jazz-inspired flair. Tracks like "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!" and "Baby, It's Cold Outside" (featuring Meghan Trainor) showcased his crooner style, evoking the charm of Frank Sinatra.*Glow*'s success led to a deluxe edition in 2018, with additional tracks, and Eldredge has since headlined the *Glow* tour, bringing the spirit of his holiday music to live audiences. His Christmas sound is known for its nostalgic warmth, highlighted by brass, strings, and that classic swing rhythm, making it stand out among traditional country holiday offerings. In 2021, Eldredge followed up with *Mr. Christmas*, blending original songs, like the title track, with beloved holiday classics. Both albums were met with praise from fans who admire his ability to capture the magic of the season through big-band arrangements and jazz-infused melodies. Now, Eldredge is back with his third holiday album, *Merry Christmas (Welcome to the Family)*. This new collection, released under his own label, Warm and Cozy Records, features eight original songs, including “Sweet December,” which Todd of Christmas Clatter has declared an instant classic.Brett Eldredge - Sweet December (feat. Dr. Emily Zarka joins Christmas Clatter to talk about the dark foil to St. Nicholas, Krampus. Krampus brings beatings (and worse) to children rather than gifts, but how did the half-goat, half-demon monster become part of Yuletide tradition? Explore the real folkloric origins of this famous Alpine beast and find out why it's seen a recent rise in popularity.Dr. Emily Zarka earned a Doctor of Philosophy in English from Arizona State University, specializing in British Romantic literature emphasizing the Gothic. Dr. Z approaches literature and film through monsters, applying the theory that human history is monster history. She is the writer and host of the PBS Digital Studios series MONSTRUM, which looks at the complex histories and motivations behind some of the world's most famous monsters. Merry Christmas in July, everybody! (And on behalf of the entire "Christmas Podcast Network", Merry Gerry in July!) Can you believe we're officially five months away from Christmas? This year is flying! As it tends to happen to the best of us around the holidays themselves, "Tis the Podcast's" Christmas in July plans were derailed this year! Originally, Anthony was writing an original radio drama with listener Rebecca Boll for the elves, their fellow Christmas podcast hosts, and other friends of the show to perform - but it didn't get finished in time. (Stay tuned for the actual Christmas season later this year!) And then, the elves wanted to put together a live-read of everyone's favorite Christmas film, "Elf", but due to miscommunication and scheduling conflicts, that plan fell through at the last minute. But, wanting to deliver something to all of y'all to mark the summer holiday today, Julia, Thom, and Anthony are joined by Gerry Davila of "Totally Rad Christmas", Todd Killian of "Christmas Clatter", Ron Hogan of "Film Strip Podcast", and Claude Bélanger of "Christmas Conversations" to honor Christmas in July! The result is the most chaotic conversation that has ever occurred in "Tis the Podcast's" four year run! Just some of the topics that come up in today's off-the-walls, hilarious episode (which is naturally filled with lots of trolling) include: True Crime (and Anthony's resulting paranoia) Thom's plans to "Cosby" Ron Claude's official "Tis the Podcast" initiation Christmas ornaments already bought by each of us this year Todd's ascension to the biggest troll of the "Christmas Podcast Network" "American Idol" Musicians - dead and alive - we wish would record (or had recorded) Christmas albums, in addition to all of the random celebrities who have released holiday records in the past (looking at you Rosie and Regis!) Gerry's theory that Donald Trump copied "Time Cop" to win the 2016 presidential election Actors we'd like to see play Santa Claus in a film one day (and actors who are no longer with us we wish had played him in a film before they passed) "The Winter Soldier" and "Zack Snyder's Justice League" All of our individual Top 4 Christmas films Ideas for how the "Christmas Podcast Network" can celebrate Halloween and Christmas later this year Julia's upcoming 39th birthday And all of that barely scratches the service, because there is much, much more discussed - and many quotes from "The Office" dropped - in this hilarious, beautiful mess of an episode that is nothing but banter! So settle in and relax by the pool with your favorite summer beverage, close your eyes, imagine the cold, winter days ahead that will be here before you know it as we fast approach the most wonderful time of the year, and enjoy this episode! And get excited, because there's plenty of fun stuff coming up on the show as well! This upcoming Monday, July 26th, we will be dropping our episode on the 2002 made for TV movie, “It's a Very Merry Muppet Christmas Movie”! And on Tuesday, July 27th, the elves will be joined by some very special, frequent and beloved guests (schedules permitting) to record another Double Feature of an episode, which will be dropping in your main feeds on Monday, August 2nd! We'll be discussing the one Christmas episode of HBO's “Curb Your Enthusiasm” (Anthony's favorite TV show of all time!) – Season 3, Episode 9: “Mary, Joseph and Larry” and the one Christmas episode of the TruTV comedy, “I'm Sorry” (One of Anthony's wife's, Sarah's, favorite shows of all time!) - Season 2, Episode 4: “Couple's Massage”! Before that drops in your feeds though, on Thursday, July 29th, you'll get to hear Chapter 26 of “Another Christmas Story” entitled “Hark the Herald Angel Sing”, which Adam Parker Sibun of “Merry Britmas” will be reading to y'all! Enjoy, y'all!
On this episode just in time and in celebration of Leon Day (June 25th) and or Annual Summer Solstice Ice Cream Social (June 21st) I'll be talking about holiday foods at our house and the quirky Thanksgiving traditon that our family calls Scrap Day. I will also tell y'all about how a fantastic podcast called Christmas Clatter hosted by Todd Killian has helped me to overcome the post holiday blues that gets me every year. If you haven't liked and subscribed to Christmas Clatter I highly recommend you do so right after this episode to get your year round holiday feel goods and spirit. As a bonus I have remastered the very first episode of Faces To Places in hopes it will be a little easier on the ears. So we will be talking with friends and neighbors about their favorite flavors and memories from our Annual Summer Solstice Ice Cream Social on the longest day of the year. As always thanks for listening!
Happy Thursday, Christmas fanatics! Welcome to the twenty-first official installment of "Another Christmas Story"! This week, long time listener and good friend of the show, Steven Beech (a.k.a. Disco54 !) of "Uplifting House Sessions" will read to all of you Chapter Twenty of our tale, entitled "Silver Bells". Within this chapter, President Emily Williams plays tour guide to her foreign guests as they swing by snowy Central Park to visit Bethesda Fountain and Strawberry Fields! We hope you like it! If you do, make sure to share this episode and our website, upon which the text of this installment is posted, to get it in front of as many eyes as possible! Make sure to check your podcast feeds for your regular weekly episode on Monday, in which the elves are joined by Todd Killian of "Christmas Clatter" to cover the Canadian film, "Christmas in Wonderland" (We can't stress enough that he picked this movie), and next Thursday for the twenty-first official chapter of this story - "Chapter Twenty-One: Sleigh Ride", which the author of this tale - our very own Anthony Caruso - will be reading to you! In it, we switch back to the points of view of Joey and Mary! Enjoy, y'all!
Due to life getting in the way prior to Julia departing for Florida on a family vacation, the elves came up one episode short to cover her absence! As such, there is obviously no new episode this week. However, we didn't want to leave y'all hanging, so we've decided to share one of our Patreon-Exclusive "Christmas Movie Commentaries" segments with y'all! In our "Christmas Movie Commentaries", the elves provide a commentary as they gather to watch one of the marquee Christmas films that everyone loves - in this instance, "Elf". The hosts will count you down and let you know when to press play on whatever device on which you're watching your movie, but if you just want to listen and not watch along, this is still a fun episode to brighten your week with a bit of holiday cheer! So settle in, queue up that Blu-Ray player, and enjoy a trip through the Candy Cane forest to New York City with your favorite elves! And don't worry, next Monday we'll be back with a brand new episode in which we're joined by Todd Killian of "Christmas Clatter" to discuss the 2007 film, "Christmas in Wonderland" (his choice of film) and this upcoming Thursday with the next chapter of "Another Christmas Story" which Steven Beech, a.k.a. Disco54, will be reading to y'all!
Happy Thursday, Christmas fanatics! Welcome to the twentieth official installment of "Another Christmas Story"! If you do, make sure to share this episode and our website, upon which the text of this installment is posted, to get it in front of as many eyes as possible! Make sure to check your podcast feeds for your regular weekly episode on Monday, in which the elves are joined by Todd Killian of "Christmas Clatter" to cover the Canadian film, "Christmas in Wonderland" (We can't stress enough that he picked this movie), and next Thursday for the twentieth official chapter of this story - "Chapter Twenty: Silver Bells", which Steven Beech - a.k.a. Disco54 - will be reading to you! In it, we switch back to the points of view of President Williams and her foreign guests as they tour a snowy Central Park! Enjoy, y'all!
