We've got a heavy-hitting techno weapon from DAVE ERA to soundtrack the sunshine. Slamming bass drums, rave-soaked synth lines, and catchy vocals make this an instant dancefloor tool. DAVE ERA also known as David Shortt, is a Galway-based DJ/Producer. He co-owns Devoid Collective which aims to bring a refreshing take on dance music culture in the West of Ireland. He is slo a resident of A Collective in his hometown of Athlone. David has refined his sound over the last few years, bringing a fresh touch to his music, while remaining faithful to his roots which are embedded within the traditional aspects of house, techno, and rave. His sound is both raw & banging yet euphoric and melodic as he leans on uplifting melodies, breaks, stabs, and direct 909 power. Previous releases on Four Four, Zone Focus, Verve, Houz, CNTRL, and Rave Residence have cemented his name as an emerging producer with a distinct dancefloor-centered sound. His tracks have been supported by heavy-weight names such as Trym, Franck, Fjaak, Rebuke, and Ewan McVicar, further vindicating his dedication to his craft. DAVE ERA's latest offering steers into harder territories as he references vintage rave techno, with the use of punchy hardcore stabs, breakbeats, and slamming kick drums. This is a no-messing rave techno affair as DAVE ERA delivers a punishingly tough techno tool, with trickles of inspiration from modern stalwarts FJAAK & KETTAMA coming through. Instant dancefloor hit. This weeks entry to the Local Selection Mix Series welcomes Irish techno heavy-hitter, Flores. Supplying just over 70 minutes worth of quality techno, traversing through funky and harsher sounding selections from the Tullamore native. Making for an acute listening experience. Dig into this! Today we welcome Flores to the Local Selection Mix Series. The budding DJ and producer has shown to be a force to be reckoned with as of late, playing an array of shows spanning all across the country, including Galway, Limerick, Offaly, Dublin and Waterford. Flores has had an exciting year, where he supported the legendary Mauro Picotto in Galway and sold out a co-headline Shed Residents show with Mav666 as well as a sold-out solo Cork headline show. This week he announced his Belfast debut at The Telegraph Building on St. Patricks Day next year alongside Mav666, joined by blk., Aeron XTC and more on the line-up. No doubt 2023 is shaping up to be a monumental year for Flores and we cannot wait to see him flourish. Additionally, Flores holds a residency with CNTRL, a label and events collective that is Galway-Dublin based. CNTRL have made a valiant effort since entering the Dublin party landscape where they are eager to introduce a harder, more brass techno sound to the city. Having recently run a hugely successful local party at The Grand Social alongside Hybrid Events where they had Jamie Behan b2b Jon Hussey headline for their first ever back-to-back. Since then, they have been trusted in providing a Room 2 takeover in Monroe's in Galway for Ewan McVicar and Dart, which turned out to be a massive success. They're now looking forward to their first Room 2 takeover in Index on December 27th with TRYM, where the reception has been massive. If you are unfamiliar with Flores, whether it be his sound, productions or mixing capabilities, then you need to give this mix a listen. He has provided us with a recording that is nothing short of beautifully crafted mayhem. If you need a spring in your step, put this on. You won't be disappointed. Blow the weekend cobwebs away with a free download from one-to-watch, Flores. The young midlands born, Dublin based DJ and producer, offers up a gritty industrial hard hitting techno track fit for ripping up the dance floor. Within over a year of producing Flores has released with the likes of Coup, Concrete Berlin, Insane Industry Recordings, The Finest Techno and Motz Berlin, showcasing his hard hitting approach to techno and his industrial sound. With recent appearances in Galway and Cork and with a headline club show announced in Limerick, he is kicking on as both a producer and a fast rising DJ on the Irish circuit. Recently joining up with Irish based label and club night CNTRL, which specialises in the fast and heavy side of techno, we expect to see and hear a lot more from the talented young producer in the future. For our premiere today, Flores showcases his hard kicks and dark distorted sounds in his track 'Moonlight', which he delivers with full effect, which he's kindly given to us as a free download. On this episode I have the honor of sitting down w/ Joe Atom of the British pop punk band The Atoms. We chat about his bands latest release “Low Brow Hi-Fi” (currently out on ProRawk and Council Pop Records,) as well as chatting about the long road to get to releasing it, our thoughts on Brit-Pop, Grunge, Nu-Metal, the second wave of punk, and the current youth scene. He also shares some funny stories from over the years as well as us just chatting about whatever else happened to pop up. It was a great chat and I was really happy to get to bullshit w/ him for as long as I did. So sit back, and get low brow w/ this episode of TIJAP. *** (songs included by The Atoms are: “I'm Pretty Good (at Fucking Up),” “Bukowski,” “Chonging the Mamba,” “Sandy Stole My LPs,” “Strangle the Girl (cover),” “(Steve is a) Smackrat,” “Gonna Have a Stroke,” and “Cntrl+alt+del.” all used w/ permission.)*** --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app
#472 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time is the modern masterpiece of confessional R&B, “Cntrl” by SZA. Christopher and Liam enjoyed it for the first time and get into it and over it about the Wu-Tang Clan, the proper pronunciation of the word ‘SZA', hot stone massage, ‘Donda', the term ‘alternative R&B', talking to your mum, and watery guitars. All that and more, plus Secret Posho, on this week's episode of Enjoy An Album. Enjoy!

I like to use keyboard commands to do the things you can do with a right click. This week I have been using cntrl K a lot. It is Holiday Concert time and I am creating a Google Slides as an online program. I am also printing a few paper copies but, my online program has program notes and I had students help with the creation and I am using some of their work. I provided links to the sources using cntrl K a lot and I thought I would spend some time talking about why this is so important and this weeks tech treat is a review of a previous tool but with a little different twist. In honor of the Movement festival, where techno heads converge on Detroit over Memorial Day weekend, we spend Episode 144 diving in to the Belleville Three: Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, and Derrick May. Here, we listen to clips of interviews and some of the iconic tracks that put "Detroit Techno" on the map. This is a bit of a misnomer, in that these pioneers actually developed their sound from living in Belleville, a rural town about 30 miles away from Detroit. But, regardless of that technicality, there's no denying that their contribution to music history became a worldwide phenomenon. They heavily cite influences form radio DJs in Detroit, which was often used as a test market, which gave them exposure to lots of experimental types of music. That, along with the lack of subscription to the concept "we should like black music", allowed them to consume and experiment with music in a way that felt right, to them. The three also discuss in some of these clips, about the influences they had on each other, as they each have their own sound. In some other interviews, Kevin and Derrick explain an early lesson in crowd reading, playing the right tracks, and getting past amateur status, that the three learned when playing a gig. Kevin also explains his musical connection bridging between his original home in New York, and Detroit, and how Mojo (radio DJ) opened Kevin's eyes to all kinds of music. In another clip, Richie Hawtin is doing a recap of the CNTRL tour, where he discusses Detroit, the Bellville Three, and the Midwest of the US (including Dayton!). There's so many interviews, full of so much great information, and we hope you enjoy learning more about the Belleville Three. Dig in! Also, in honor of Memorial Day, the Passionate DJ Podcast would like to remember our military members who gave the ultimate price, those who served and are no longer with us, and thank the families who have lost their loved ones in service to these United States. Thank you for your sacrifices, so that the rest of us have the freedoms we enjoy. Nate Mars is a NYC-based music technology & content marketing consultant who's spent a great deal of time at the intersection of marketing, content and education - much like our host Hisham Dahud. In fact, the two first met while touring with electronic music legend Richie Hawtin working on those very same components for the two CNTRL tours in 2012 and 2014. Nate has worked with the likes of Splice, Dubspot, K7 Records and most recently Microsoft/LinkedIn on content marketing strategy. He also produces music and recently put out a new record called 'In Transit'. In this episode, Nate and Hisham go back and forth on the state of music education, how technology continues to expand how we view the field of education in modern times, and much more centered around marketing and technology. Are they progressive and dark or playful and melodic? The answer is simply "YES!" The names of Bastian Krischmann & Oliver Klingenberg are a synonym for driving percussions, powerful basslines and characteristic soundscapes. Progressive, dark, playful and melodic as well! Their productions clearly bear their own signature and with their endless passion they are able to set a course and affect the whole scene. Originally from Berlin and influenced by "old-school" techno as well as by a classical music education, the duo steadily provides novel and expressive output and inspires a new "techno-generation". They always strike new paths, steadily reinvent their selves and don´t care about stereotypes. Well-known labels like Naked Lunch, Driving Forces, I.CNTRL or Elektrax are the home of their productions, as well as various charts of famous DJs around the globe. The Cologne-based guys are performing dynamic, varied and impulsive techno-sets when they are on stage. Krischmann & Klingenberg are a perfect unit behind the decks and their long-lasting and close friendship since 1999 was the ideal base to form that over the years. During their gigs in clubs like the legendary "Tresor" in Berlin and festivals like "Nature One" or "Ruhr in Love" they always feel homelike, while their sound is considered a trend-setting German export in other parts of the world like South America, South Africa, Russia and all other parts of Europe. Krischmann & Klingenberg are breaking new ground and present themselves in an energetic, innovative and fresh way. Is this techno? The answer is simply “YES!"
