The NBA released its Christmas Day slate, and no surprise, the Lakers (who are also featured on opening night against the Nuggets) are right in the center of it. A marquee time slot hosting the Boston Celtics. The NBA went for tradition in a year where both teams are expected to compete for a title.Nice.Not featured? Arguably the most challenging team in the Western Conference, and perhaps the entire league, to predict, the Los Angeles Clippers. Why?Let's break that, and more, down with Darian Vaziri, the host of Locked On Clippers and the DimeDropper Podcast.Where have the Clippers gone wrong? Is it just injuries? If they stay healthy, where do they stack up against the rest of the conference? Against the rest of the league? And what about that massive win streak the LAC have against the Lakers? After adding significant wing depth over the last six-plus months, are the Lakers finally built to beat the Clippers head-to-head? If so, how should fans react? From there, the Daily Mail is reporting that the Kobe Bryant statue is coming to LA Live next August. 8.8.24 to be exact, a date picked for obvious reasons. Not that you'd expect otherwise, but Darvin Ham was talking up the Lakers roster earlier this week with Mark Medina of The Sporting Tribune. Ham says the Lakers absolutely have a roster capable of winning an NBA championship. Not that he was saying the Lakers should be prohibitive favorites or anything, but that they've got the pieces to get it done.So is he right? Or is this just a coach delivering the normal platitudes you get in July? It's hard to argue with his premise. The Lakers, after all, are coming off a Western Conference Finals appearance, and even if you don't think they radically improved this offseason, they certainly didn't get any worse. (And realistically, while the improvement wasn't massive - that sort of transformative thing wasn't really available to them - they enter the season with a more balanced roster than last season and the opportunity to build with continuity. That continuity thing? Ham is a big proponent, calling it a major reason the Nuggets won a title, and noting that it's becoming a bigger trend across the league. The Lakers might have a history of chasing stars, but this year they are trying a different path. (And, for what it's worth, a better one.)So what does the rest of the conference look like? Denver took a small step back, losing Bruce Brown and Jeff Green. What about Memphis? Phoenix? How many known, or even semi-known quantities are there in the West? After Denver, and probably Sacramento, you've got the Lakers. Is that it?And finally, Kobe Bryant became a Laker on July 11, 1996. It feels like a long time ago, in so many ways (because it is) and at the same time, it doesn't. Perhaps because Bryant, because he died so suddenly and so prematurely, feels frozen in time. Looking back to that day in '96, it's interesting to think what would have happened if the Nets hadn't been scared away from drafting Bryant. The "Sliding Doors" scenarios are infinite.HOSTS: Andy and Brian KamenetzkySEGMENT 1: Darvin Ham says the Lakers have a championship roster. Kobe Bryant was my hero. The guy I wanted to be like as a young kid. The first sports jersey I ever owned, and the main reason I fell in love with the game of basketball. On this date one year ago, Kobe, along with his 2nd daughter Gianna and 7 others, were tragically taken from this earth in a helicopter crash. Here I reflect on my favorite player and first true athletic inspiration, and his massive impact on not only myself, but the whole world who loved him as much as I did. Thanks for Listening, share if you enjoy, all the support is very deeply appreciated.

To start off the show, Shaun and Chuck share their thoughts on the tragic death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant and talk a bit about how they'll remember him. The guys get down to business, starting with a Bellator 238 recap, including Cris Cyborg's vicious finish of Julia Budd to capture her fourth major promotional championship in a vintage performance, Aaron Pico's KO of Daniel Carey, Sergio Pettis's first stoppage victory since 2013 in his Bellator debut, and Darrion Caldwell's quick submission of Adam Borics to advance in the Featherweight World Grand Prix, setting up a juicy matchup with AJ McKee in the next round. After that, the guys break down Curtis Blaydes's nasty finish of Junior dos Santos in the main event of UFC Raleigh and discuss what the win means for Blaydes amidst a lot of uncertainty at the top of the Heavyweight division, Michael Chiesa's solid win over RDA in the co-main, a potential Chiesa-Covington matchup, and undercard highlights including Angela Hill's second straight finish, Arnold Allen improving to 7-0 inside the Octagon, and more. Finally, the guys close the show with their thoughts on the continuing Stephen A. Smith-Joe Rogan feud that dominated headlines over the weekend.
