We care about how, if you work hard and maybe get lucky… you might not *need* the money. (Much.)Ross is a former IndyCar 'shoe and a pro driver coach who has trained thousands of racers. Jeff and Ross co-host this show. Jeff is a race engineer. Ross is a performance coach who's worked with thousands of drivers—Indy winners, Le Mans winners, even the late Ken Block. Thirty years ago, one kid stood out from the rest; he would become one of the most decorated drivers in American history. Oddly enough, that kid was Jeff's son. Colin Braun is now 36. His resume holds three IMSA championships, four Daytona 24 wins, a Le Mans win, and a NASCAR rookie-of-the-year title. He's raced in IndyCar, World Challenge, and Global Rallycross; he's driven Le Mans and Daytona prototypes, GTP cars, Porsches and Ferraris and Ford GTs. The most successful drivers do one thing better than the rest. So we got Colin on the horn and asked him about that—and what it takes to go fast in everything. This show's format rotates weekly, because squirrel. Are we doing a run of guest episodes this fall because it sounded like fun? We are! Related Trivia: Colin recently signed to drive one of Meyer Shank Racing's factory-backed Acura GTP prototypes for 2025. This is neat. We like this. Kevin rounds out the first hour previewing the second hour of the show. In the second hour of the show, Curt and Kevin talk about the new Josef Newgarden commercial, and the banning of the snaking maneuver that Newgarden used to win the Indy 500 last year. They talk about the nuance of the new rule, and how severe the punishment could be for the driver who goes below the line. Colin Braun is a highly talented race car driver that's been around for years racing in multiple classes including in the SCCA. He signed with Meyer Shank Racing this year to race their IMSA GTP Acura ARX-06 and started off the year with a win in the Rolex 24 hours at Daytona. We caught up with him at the Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach media luncheon just prior to the race. He talks to us about his background in the sport and his recent visit to the HPD headquarters as a factory team driver to get a behind-the-scenes tour. Additionally, he describes the phenomenal SCCA Runoffs program he was involved with to break the track record at Road America – shocking statistics! Enjoy! NOTE: Colin Braun will be competing in the season finale Petit Le Mans at Road Atlanta October 13-15, 2023. It was announced on October 3, 2023 that this will be the last race for MSR with the IMSA Acura GTP program. By Larry Mason Copyright © 2023 Larry Mason

Phil and Josh return for E154 of the GSP to discuss a wild NFL conference championship weekend and the Rolex 24 at Daytona amongst other events. Kansas City and KTF made their third Super Bowl in the last four years after withstanding Joe Burrow and the Cincinnati Bengals, which means JD Harmeyer is a mush-mouthed bald guy. Prior to that game, the San Francisco 49ers season ended six plays into the game after a Hassan Reddick sack and forced fumble on Brock Purdy, which left Mr. Relevant unable to throw and looking at elbow surgery. Phil goes off in frustration and anger after another close call and the Eagles basically being able to coast to victory. Also, tech difficulties happened, just like the entire 49ers team had that day. In more positive news, Josh attended the Rolex 24 and let us know about how the atmosphere was for the first race of the new GTP era in IMSA. The guys get into the race and talk about all the class winners including the Meyer-Shank Acura team repeating as Rolex 24 champs with new hire Colin Braun. With plenty of talk that the GTP's may not make it, the race came down to four cars (Two Acuras & Cadillacs) battling at the end. However, Porsche and BMW struggled but they all have time to adjust prior to Sebring in March. Phil and Josh cover NASCAR news before the GSP Roundup looks at the Race of Champions and the Formula E Saudi E-Prix doubleheader. For the second consecutive year, the NASCAR Cup Series will start their season at the LA Coliseum for the Busch Light Clash. The crew previews the race and makes their picks before Josh's Sim Segment and Show Close.
2023 Rolex 24 Winner Colin Braun came into The Freak Nation Sunday night after his fourth win in the iconic race. This time he won overall with three other drivers including Tom Bloomquist, Helio Castroneves and Simon Pagenaud, all part of the Meyer Shank Racing Team. They won in an incredibly fast Acura GTP Prototype. The car, the category and the team are all new making the victory that much sweeter. Braun talked about the win and other successes he's experienced in his growing career. Listen...

Colin Braun is a sports car racer who for more than 25 years has been on the track. He grew up in a racing family and his father Jeff Braun has been a guest here on Cars Yeah, twice. Colin’s sportscar career includes wins at the Rolex 24, 12 Hours of Sebring, and Six Hours of Watkins Glen events. At just 16 he made his racing debut at the Rolex 24 Hours race in Daytona and he was the youngest driver ever to place on the podium at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, finishing second. He’s run oval racing with NASCAR where he is credited with the fastest lap around the Daytona International Speedway at 222.971 mph!
Travis Okulski joins me to talk about where Road & Track is headed, his racing experience and how that’s contributed to where he is today, what makes drivers like Marco Andretti, Graham Rahal, and Colin Braun so great, and the future of motorsport – including Formula E. Travis is the Editor-in-Chief for Road & Track magazine. He started racing karts when he was 12, but realized that a career in motorsport – something he was committed to – was best achieved from behind the keyboard rather than the steering wheel. His job is one that most every gearhead would kill to have. Travis’ Speed Secret: Eyes up. Work hard. Preston Lerner joins me to talk about what he’s noticed that the best drivers – such as Colin Braun – do that make them so great. As a journalist, that’s what he does – observe things that most people miss. We also talk about his own racing in a Spec Miata (and what you can learn from his strengths and weaknesses), the Ford GTs at Le Mans, and the dreaded Driver Ratings system that is used sports car racing. Preston writes for Road & Track magazine, amongst others, and has written a number of books, including Ford GT, Winning: Paul Newman, Speed Read Ferrari, Scarab, and History’s Greatest Automotive Mysteries, Myths, and Rumors Revealed. When he’s not writing, Preston is driving – often racing a Spec Miata in California.

Disney Channel Producer Travis Braun has spent a lifetime talking with young people, racers and his Dad's Triumph Spitfire. Colin Braun joins me once again - while we’re traveling in Europe – and we talk about how to be fast in fast corners. There aren’t many – if any – faster drivers in sports cars these days, so Colin’s advice on how to work your way up to the limit in very fast corners is great information. Also, we talk about how to sense the limits of the tires when in these fast corners (hint: it’s not wiggling the steering wheel back and forth). Colin has raced and won in everything from NASCAR to IMSA. He currently drives an Oreca LMP2 car for CORE Autosports in the Weather Tech IMSA series, CrowdStrike Racing in the Pirelli World Challenge, and United Autosports in the Michelin Le Mans Series. Colin Braun joins me again (he was on episode #7 over a year ago) to talk about his approach to learning a track he’s never been to before, what it takes to get to throttle sooner, how to use the brakes, being smooth with the steering, and what “rotating” a car really means. Basically, he shares with you what he does to be so bloody fast! We recorded this episode while driving from the Lisbon airport to Portimao in Portugal, so we also share a couple of funny travel stories (since Colin’s luggage had gotten lost on his flight and would be in the same clothes for the next 4 days…)! Colin has won races and championships in sports cars, NASCAR and open-wheel cars.
