The 2024 Dakar Rally "48-Hour Chrono" stage kicked off today and dished out more challenges for the Dakar Rally competitors. Top Rally GP competitors lead out the day into Saudi Arabia's Empty Quarter to remote bivouacs that are spread out along the course. A sea of endless dunes met the racers head-on and some bowed out after technical issues. Today's race was the first part of a two-day single stage. And HRC Monster Energy Honda's Adrien Van Beveren leads at today's rest stops with impressive sand speed over more than 500km of racing. AVB's Honda teammate Ricky Brabec came in to the bivouac hot on his heels to sit in second (Virtually) and Red Bull KTM's Toby Price is right behind him in third. Honda's Skyler Howes left the race today after only ~40KM due to a techincal issue with his bike and yesterday's stage winner Pablo Quintanilla - poised to make up big time today after a reversed starting order - ran out of fuel 10km before the first refueling of the day, an error that dashes his hopes of overall victory. Check in with Malle Moto competitors with us today, as well as a chat with Women's class leader and enduro champion Jane Daniels on the Fantic machine. Cheers! Dakar Rally Stage 4 didn't disappoint with the speed and drama we expect from this epic race.  After losing Ricky Brabec to a crash (he's ok!) yesterday, the Honda crew stepped it up big time today with top finishes  and a stage win from Joan Barreda (29th stage win) and Pablo Quintanilla in second. Skyler Howes rode incredibly strong, again, to round out the top three - starting in second on the outset.Toby Price, Adrien VanBeveren, Luciano Benavides, Kevin Benavides, Daniel Sanders (who led out the day), Nacho Cornejo, and Luciano Santolino (Sherco) completed the top-10. Mason Klein, the Dakar prodigy, had a fantastic day going once again until a fuel issue caused him to park and work on his KTM for a few minutes at the very end of the special, dropping him down to 11th on the day's standings. He really limited his losses with massive performance early, grabbing early waypoint bonuses for leading the stage and was in contention for the stage win until the last points. Yesterdays winner, Daniel Sanders, had a bit of a struggle leading the way today, allowing Howes to catch up early and steal some bonus points away. Even so, Sanders still leads the overall rankings by 3:30 with Howes in second and Kevin Benavides in third. We also get an update from Jacob Argubright after a tough stage three and refreshing stage four finish, and get our American Rally Originals insight from our favorite message sender, Paul Neff. Today was one of those days at Dakar that really shakes things up.  For all but 43 motorcycle riders, the race stage was cut short due to a massive rain/hail storm wiping through the Saudi desert. The images are insane and reports are nasty.  For most of the moto contenders, the day ahead of that storm was fantastic. Unfortunately, American Ricky Brabec has withdrew from the race after a hard crash during the stage. His injuries aren't fully known yet but we do know he was stable with mobility en-route to scans at the hospital. Reports are of neck and shoulder pain at this time. Red Bull GasGas rider Daniel Sanders grabbed a commanding stage win by blitzing through a long, tough, stage after a strategic finishing position yesterday put him in a prime place to win. His speed is what did the deed, though, as he led from every checkpoint all day and managed to put some serious time into his rivals in the top-ten general standing for the race.American Husqvarna Factory pilot Skyler Howes  finished the stage in second today after starting in the usually unfavorable spot of third on the day. Howes was able to carry big speed all day despite being up front and, as you'll hear in today's show, he really enjoyed himself. Fellow American Mason Klein led the entire 400+ KM of timed special stage after his win yesterday to finish an amazing third today and  put his stamp of competency and contention on the 2023 Dakar and the Rally GP class. The 21-year-old American lost minimal time to stage winner Sanders and benefitted from the new stage-leading bonus rules from the organization to limit his losses even more. In the end, he only gave up around six minutes the insanely fast Australian. The only way this happens is if Mason Klein rides like an absolute boss leading the world's best riders. And he did just that. More insight in this episode from Red Bull KTM's Australian legend Toby Price and his teammate Kevin Benevides as well as our daily check in with the Ironmen of the sport and our daily Paul Neff quote - one of our favorite parts of the day. More tomorrow from Stage 4. American RallyGP Rookie Mason Klein raced to his career-first Dakar stage win in today's long and grueling Stage 2 of the 2023 Dakar Rally. The privateer racer on the BAS Trucks KTM support team started the day in third place, an unfavorable starting position giving the length of the stage and potential for massive time loss. But, it seemed, the field was more than happy to give him the chance to lead out towards the end of the rally and he did so with a bit of authority, stamping his name in the Dakar stage winner's book. We get on the phone with Klein and chat about his day in this episode. Also, we talk with the other American privateer out there, Jacob Argubright. Of course, we check in with the top contenders (as available) and hear from Toby Price, Joan Barreda, Daniel Sanders, and got the ironman/unsupported insight from Paul Neff in the Original by Motul class. Another entertaining and fun look into the big day at Dakar in Saudi. Toby Price needs little introduction to die-hard Dakar Rally fans. He's a two-time winner on the Red Bull Factory KTM Rally Team and is probably the only dude to win a Dakar Rally with a broken wrist. He's also just generally an absolute beast on a motorcycle with almost ten Dakar Rally events under his belt. He's had a few injury DNF's but otherwise he's only missed the podium one year when getting to the end. That year was 2022, so he's looking for redemption in 2023.We infiltrated the Factory KTM California training and testing program and cornered Price in a Barstow, California hotel in-between 200-mile road book training days. Today is the day at the 2022 Dakar Rally where the teams align and set their best riders up to win the big show. We get an update from Husqvarna's Skyler Howes who is back home after a horrific crashRed Bull KTM's Toby Price won the stage, creeping  up in the general rankings but still considerably out of contention for a podium overall position . Monster Energy Honda led the stage from the get-go today, but  dropped time mid-stage and that immediately put Red Bull KTM's Matthias Walkner on the front of the stage to fend for himself. Walkner led well for most of the stage, but dropped considerable time at the final km's, finishing deep in the pack. The other half of the Honda team, Pablo Quintanilla and Joan Barreda rode well and finished strategically to set up a great result  on the final big day tomorrow.Consistent 2022 race leader Sam Sunderland lost time today on his GasGas but still is in strong contention for an overall victory. We get into all the strategy scenarios in today's show with quotes from Adrian Van Beveren, Sam Sunderland, Matthias Walkner, and Joan Barreda

The Dakar Rally starts after the rest day. We've heard that plenty from racers, managers, and  more. And it certainly seems to be holding true in 2022's edition of the Dakar. Today on Stage five, we saw our first contender fall and abandon the race with American success story Skyler Howes headed to the hospital right after completing the stage. He reported in to the show with a decent prognosis after a massive crash: concussion, sore heel, no broken bones. But his race is over.Others crashed as well, two-time stage winner Joan Barreda crashed and injured his shoulder. After finishing, he said he'll wait until the morning to inform the organizers if his race is over. Daniel Sanders seems to have hit the deck again, as well - two days in a row for the fast Australian.Despite the carnage, an unlikely winner emerges. MotoGP veteran Danilo Petrucci, participating in his first Dakar (maybe his first rally) took the stage win after Toby Price was docked with a six-minute speeding penalty. The win is a milestone as never has a MotoGP winner won a stage of Dakar.  Also, he's a true rookie, which puts him in rarified air again. In today's show we try to keep up with the changing pace of the race results, get an update from Ricky Brabec, hear from race leader Sam Sunderland, get a quote from Ross Branch and dig into what's to come. Check it out!

It's Stage 2 of the 2022 Dakar Rally and the racing shakeups continue as racers work their way through a challenging navigation trend that's defining this year's edition. We chat with Sam Sunderland about navigation and course challenges and Skyler Howes calls in with a race report from the past two days. Joan Barreda takes the stage win (his 28th!) and Sam Sunderland is the race's newest leader, the second leader from the GasGas brand, with a strong performance in today's stage which was supposed to be day one of a marathon. It turns out the marathon bivouac was flooded after days of rain, so organizers moved the pits to a new location and scrapped the marathon. The race is on otherwise and what a race it's turning out to be. Big time gains were grabbed by KTM's Kevin Benavides and Toby Price today in the general standings. Also on the move was Joaquim Rodriquez on the Hero machine and Andrew Short took some time back on the Monster Energy Yamaha.  In fact, all the Monster Energy Yamaha machines of VanBeveren (2nd), Short (16th), and Branch (12th overall) are knocking on the top 15 in general classification. One of the strongest day-by-day performance so far in this young race is from Husqvarna Factory Racing's  Skyler Howes as he once again maintained an incredibly consistent pace finishing in the top five today, avoiding errors and looking solid.American Ricky Brabec made up some time from a tough day yesterday, but not as much as his fellow competitors. This race is just getting started with 10 more days of gnarly racing to come!

Today's  Stage Nine of the 2021 Dakar Rally was held on the anniversary of Paulo Congalves' tragic accident in 2020's edition. The likable legend lost his life last year on the same date and the entire traveling family of Dakar racers paid tribute to him today with commemorative symbols on their bodies, bikes and in their hearts.Red Bull KTM's Toby Price was the first racer on the scene of the accident last year. Today, exactly one  year later, two-time Dakar Champion Price is forced to abandon his race effort with injuries sustained in a crash. Thankfully, the Australian champion's injuries don't seem to be life threatening, but the elimination of one of the strongest competitors in a brutally tough stage is surely taking its toll on the field mentally as the race drains them physically.Atrophy in the race has ramped up, consequences are extremely high, time is running out to make up time. This is the Dakar Rally at its most dangerous and unpredictable stages. In today's episode, we hear from Ricky Brabec who was first on the scene of Price's crash, and get on the phone with Johnny Campbell to ask how the racers and bikes are holding up in the Monster Energy Honda camp.

The second day of the marathon stretch at the 2021 Dakar Rally has finished with the top competitors rising to the occasion. In what seemed to be a catastrophic case of bad luck, Red Bull KTM's Toby Price started the day with a massive tire cut held together by zip ties and duct tape. But, somehow, the champion from Australia held it together to finish on the damaged tire, and claim second overall for the stage! Grabbing his first stage win, "Nacho" Cornejo on the Monster Energy HRC Honda team chased his teammate and defending Dakar champion Ricky Brabec into the desert, swapping the physical lead and maintaining a blistering pace. The performance was good enough to put him over a minute in front of Price for the overall classification. We cover the stage's events, hear from the contenders in the pits, and analyze the stages coming next. It's good to be Skyler Howes today. The young American is sitting at the top of the general classification of Elite motorcycle competitors. And, as we've seen all race long, he's been prime for this spot since he's avoided the massive pendulum swings of time gained and lost that the other top contenders are somewhat forced to play in so far.  In today's episode, we chat with the new race leader, one of few Americans to ever hold that spot in the world's toughest racing event. Also on tap today is some insight from the master himself, Jimmy Lewis. We call in to his Nevada rally headquarters as he's following along with intent and interest as his students battle it out in Saudi Arabia. We also get into the controversial departure of American Andrew Short from competition. New information reveals he did, in fact, have water contaminate his fuel in yesterday's stage - stopping his chances of continuing on. Australia's Toby Price was the first from his country to win Dakar when he won the 2016 event in only his second attempt. The way he attacks the Dakar Rally, and any challenge on a bike, really, is impressive to say the least. In fact, after barely learning how to navigate, he finished third in his first-ever attempt in 2015.Since he began, he's only not finished on the podium once in 2017 and that was due to a broken femur--likely the only thing that will keep him from being in contention. Need another sign of his speed and toughness? How about his Dakar win in 2019 with a broken wrist injury sustained before the race even started!? And the list goes on, from a massive winning record at Australias Finke Rally, Baja 1000 finishes on a bike and in a truck, and the list just keeps going. If there's one man everyone has at the top of their win list, it's probably Toby Price. But 2020 hasn't been all wins for Price. A COVID-influenced lockdown of his home country and associated self-exile has had him away from friends and family for nearly six months as he's prepped and trained for, essentially this single event. Enjoy this interview with Toby Price as we count down the days to the start of the 2021 Dakar Rally and stay tuned for more!
