In this powerful episode, I sat down with Angela Clement, who shared her moving journey of losing her husband Blaine to stage four colon cancer in October 2021 after 35 years together. Their life on their ranch underwent dramatic changes when Blaine fell ill, leading to multiple transitions, including selling their ranch, Angela's early retirement as a school principal, and relocating to be closer to medical care. Through her journey, Angela discovered the transformative power of energy healing, which helped Blaine with his symptoms and became her pathway to healing and her new purpose in life.Angela went on to share how the traditional narrative of "grieving for a lifetime" didn't resonate with her spirit, leading her to choose a path of active healing through grief coaches and energy healers. Her dedication to healing led her to become an energy healer, grief coach, and author of her book, "Awakening Through Grief." We explored the importance of processing emotions, particularly anger, and creating safe spaces to feel our feelings fully. One of the most beautiful insights Angela shared was her understanding that love is infinite and expansive - comparing it to how having a second child doesn't diminish the love for the first, showing how loving again doesn't diminish the love we hold for those we've lost. She spoke movingly about how Blaine continues to be present in her life as a guiding angel, teaching her that love transcends physical boundaries. Angela now supports others through group sessions, healing programs, and angel readings, helping them find hope and meaning after loss. Her story is a powerful testament to how grief can transform into purpose and healing.RESOURCES:Podcast | Awaken Your Soul's JourneyBook | Awakening Through GriefHealing SessionsSend Victoria a text message! Send Victoria a Text Message! In the quiet after-hours of our bustling lives, we often overlook the profound journeys that shape us. For today's episode, I had the honor of speaking with Denise Dielwart on Grieving Voices—a woman who turned her deepest sorrow into a beacon of hope for thousands. After the sudden death of her husband left her in despair, Denise discovered that traditional methods of dealing with grief weren't effective. This realization led to the development of the Flow Grief Release Method - an innovative approach designed to expedite healing from years to months.Denise's method challenges conventional wisdom about grieving and recovery timeframes. Instead of following prescribed stages or waiting on time to heal wounds, she advocates for proactive steps towards reclaiming one's life after loss. Her focus is not just coping but transforming lives and finding joy again.During our conversation, Denise shares candidly about:The shock and turmoil following unexpected bereavement. The inadequacy she felt while engaging in talk therapy. How questioning "Who am I?" post-loss was pivotal in redefining herself beyond being a wife or mother. Why widowhood is often misunderstood as a form of grief – it involves adjusting to numerous small changes that significantly impact daily life.Practical advice on navigating finances and legal matters after losing a spouse.Feeling emotions deeply rather than suppressing them as part of the healing journey is essential.Denise emphasizes taking action over merely talking through pain and introduces us to her FLOW acronym: Feel your emotions fully; let go of what holds you back; overcome obstacles by addressing underlying issues; become whole by embracing your new identity post-grief.RESOURCES:Ep 68 Ken RossGrief Recovery FB GroupPodcast | Grief UnlockedCONNECT:WebsiteFacebookInstagramYouTube_______NEED HELP?National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255Crisis Text Line provides free, 24/7 support via text message. What do you do when your dreams are derailed by tragedy? As much as we like to talk about the beauty of getting older, there's no denying that this life stage sometimes comes with loss. There are all kinds of losses, and unfortunately, this week's guest, Cristina M. Ramirez—an entrepreneur, educator and author of Empowered By Discomfort—experienced one of the most tragic kinds. She recently became a widow in midlife when her husband of 19 years died of cancer. Cristina was left to mother their two boys on her own, traversing what she now refers to as "the worst year of her life." But, after coming out of that dark period, she decided to write about it, with the goal of helping others who might be going through similar experiences. In this empowering conversation, Cristina and I talk about: How she and her husband shared their last moments together How grief literally changes your brain, how everyone's looks different, and how she processed her own How "her life didn't compute anymore" after her husband's death, and how she found courage to build a new one for herself and her family Why her children were her saving grace after the tragedy, and how she parented them when all she wanted to do was "crawl under the covers" Why asking for help was so important as she began traversing the world as a newly widowed mom What motivated her to open up about her experience, and how she hopes sharing will help others Why it's important to lean into the discomfort when life gets hard—and how doing so can lead to self-growth The way she's chosen to honor her husband's memory and the life they built together, and why dating is not—and may never be—in the cards How her loss forever changed her life outlook and career trajectory Why she believes the best is still yet to come—and why you should too If you've ever experienced profound loss and are open to exploring what lies on the other side of tragedy, please have a listen. In this first Q&A episode, Ruth asks why she's struggling more with her spouse's death than the death of her parents. In my response, I share a perspective you may find helpful when considering your losses. Whether you've been married for five, fifteen, or forty years, or your parents died when you were young or in your fifties, death may finalize the physical relationship; however, the emotional relationship carries on. As a mother, carrying and growing another human in the womb for nine months, it is expected that a healthy child will be born. However, for Elizabeth, that is not what happened. Her world was shattered when she realized that she wouldn't be a new mom overflowing with joy. Rather, she would become a mother with grieving empty arms. After her firstborn died, Elizabeth and her husband were fortunate to have a healthy daughter. Yet again, her joy was cut short when their daughter was only about 5 months old when her husband was deployed in the Special Forces in the Army. Her husband owed the military one last deployment and within six weeks of that deployment to Afghanistan, Elizabeth received a call that no military spouse ever wants to receive. Her husband was in Germany with injuries sustained while on deployment. She flew to Germany to be with him, which would turn out to be for his final breaths. All of that loss within an 18-month period would be the catalyst for her to look for and ultimately create a space for herself and other grieving young widows. Through a lot of ongoing healing and inner work, Elizabeth did find love again and has a family with so much love to give to. But, it wasn't a quick, bounce-right-back process either, and being a young widow, who was also still grieving a son, would pose its own challenges, too. There's truly no way to skirt around grief. When Kristine's husband, Richard, suddenly died of a pulmonary embolism while descending on a flight, she had no idea how much she would rely on the tools and insights she had gained while writing several of the books contained in the "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff" series. It was the teachings, many years of personal development work, writing, and support of others that gave her the means to process the grief from, what had been at that point, the most profound loss of her life. Kristine shares what those first years looked like, as well as takes us through what life has been like beyond, and how the loss of her late husband and most recently her soul-sister friend since age 14, Melanie. Grief brings with it gaping wounds, but if we resolve, as Kristine says, to not allow ourselves to become a victim of our circumstances, a beautiful life with joy can unfold - if we only surrender. Learn, through this episode, ways to cope that helped Kristine get through the darkest days and lean into joy again.RESOURCES:Awakening from Grief by John E. TRANSCRIPT FOLLOWS BELOW:Passing Through Life podcast copyright 2018 Luanne Bole-BeckerEpisode 5: Just Getting Your Feet on the GroundRuth Durand interview recorded 9.22.18; podcast published 3.6.19 Introducing our guest: Ruth Durand (00:16)Lu: Today's episode is called just getting your feet on the ground. It's episode number five and it's an interview with Ruth Durand, a beautiful woman and my friend who has had to face and live through possibly one of the worst experiences that there is in life, the suicide of a spouse. Ehhhh. But there's good stuff in this story too, so thanks, Ruth, for being here.Ruth: Thanks for having me.Lu: We met because of our kids, I think. Our son Bryan, who's engineering these podcasts--and I manage to mention in everything single one, I think--and Ruth's son Garrett became really good friends. In fact, I can remember some epic birthday parties, in fact, one where each one got to pick out his favorite hot sauce and inflict it on the others. But I digress. Our kids went to church and school together. As moms, we hung out at church and school events together. And I actually served on several committees and boards with Ruth's husband, Matt Felber, so our families were intertwined and we really just enjoy each other's company. So we're going to enjoy each other's company now too, right? [Yes, we are.] Okay. When life was still “normal” (01:39)Lu: I'm going to start out by asking you to tell me a little bit about your life prior to 2009.Ruth: Hm, that's a tough one. Okay. I think we just lived life, you know, raising, raising the three boys, doing...Lu: How old were the kids roughly? Are we talking little kids? Teenagers? Ruth: In 2009 they were 15 and 17.
Lissa Boles created The Soul Map™ in partnership with Randy, her beloved husband, soul mate and best friend. Their relationship - filled with an incredible amount of love, playfulness and compassion - illuminated what's possible in romantic life and business partnership. In 2014, they discovered Randy had a rapidly metastasizing form of terminal cancer and after only a few short months, he was gone. This interview explores the unfolding experience of grief, loss and the nature of desire. What do we live for when we have what we always wanted and it is taken away? The truth is all of us must face our own deaths and the deaths of those we hold the most dear. However, in our society, this subject is taboo. We just don't know how to approach death, how to talk about it or how to best support each other when we are grieving. Yet, remarkably, in approaching grief and fully living the grieving process, we may find an otherwise unfathomable richness and depth to life and to our work. In this, we may discover pain is not what we think it is, uncovering the gifts of the darkest night of the soul. Despite immeasurable loss, Lissa's guiding light burns brightly in turbulent times, pointing us inward towards our reserves of strength, courage, and capacity to TRUST while rising solidly to the challenges we face personally and collectively. EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS Our deepest trials call us into the truth of what our life is about Finding desire after great loss Desire is mixed with shadow Loss can lead us to knowing everything happens for a reason Grief requires presence and is like active meditation Going through difficulty prepares us to lead in difficult times Partnering with grief can free you in unimaginable ways The time of entrusting the truth to others is passing If we turn away from a difficult period or emotion, we can't be sovereign, lead, create or know our purpose fully The gifts of the dark night of the soul including discernment and a stronger voice Pain is not what we think it is MENTIONED IN THE SHOW Power vs Force The Translucent Revolution Life in Full Color ABOUT LISSA BOLES Hailing from Ontario, Canada, Lissa Boles is CEO of The Soul Map™, a boutique entrepreneurial coaching & consulting firm providing an unparalleled astrological approach to niching, platform creation, business building and success achievement – one based on the untouchable uniqueness of the owner’s life purpose and the trailblazing thought leadership that’s theirs & theirs alone.
