Welcome to the Week 14 edition of the Vikings Postgame Report. It was a defensive slugfest in Las Vegas as the Vikings pulled off the 3-0 victory. Both defenses played incredibly, only giving up a combined 433 total yards to their opponents offenses. The Vikings were able to flip the turnover battle this week, finishing +3, including a huge interception by linebacker Ivan Pace jr. deep into the 4th Quarter. Pace also recorded a sack on the day and led the team with 13 tackles. The three other sacks by the Vikings were recorded by D.J. Wonnum, Harrison Phillips, and Troy Dye. Mekhi Blackmon and Jay Ward rounded out the big defensive stats for Minnesota by each recovering a fumble. Offensively, Quarterback Josh Dobbs started the game, but Nick Mullens came in late in the 4th Quarter to lead the game winning drive. Dobbs finished with 63 yards passing on 10 completions, while Mullens added 83 passing yards on 9 completions. Kicker Greg Joseph was big when they needed it most, as he hit the game winning 36-yard score with 1:57 left in the game. Paul Allen and Pete Bercich recap the game, including: the incredible defensive performance, the spark provided by Nick Mullens, and the key plays supplied by the Special Teams unit. Plus, Head Coach Kevin O'Connell and Quarterback Nick Mullens both spoke to the media at the postgame press conference. All of this and more is in the 2023 Week 14 edition of the Vikings Postgame Report.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Locked On Red Wings - Daily Podcast On The Detroit Red Wings
Despite being heavily outshot, the Red Wings kept the quality of the shots by the Calgary Flames down, only allowing 2 high danger shots at 5v5 all game long. It was certainly one of their best defesive efforts of the season led by Ben Chiarot who looked great with the eye test, blocking 6 shots. Ville Husso played fantastic as well makes 35 saves and posting a 1.54GSAx. Then you have our goal scorers, Dylan "Who wants to be a millionaire" Larkin converted on a Detroit powerplay. And Filip Zadina, in his first game back from injury, scored his 1st of the season for the game winner on a beautiful tic-tac-toe pass with Oskar Sundqvist. #lgrwFollow & Subscribe on all Podcast platforms…

The Jungle - Auburn Basketball Podcast with Matt Donaldson and Jackson Garrett
Two of the nation's top defenses squared off in Knoxville and the game between Auburn and Tennessee really reflected that. Both teams shot poorly from the field and from the three point line, and every rebound and possession were hotly contested. Auburn took an early lead before trailing by 4 at halftime. They went down by 8 a couple times, but clawed back to have multiple possessions at the end of the game to tie or take the lead. Johni Broome led the way for Auburn with 11 points and 9 rebounds, and KD Johnson also scored in double figures for a third straight game with 10. Auburn (17-6, 7-3 SEC) continues their road trip with a game in College Station, TX on Tuesday night.

The Nashville Predators fell to the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins 2-1 in the shootout Tuesday night. The game featured multiple back and forth efforts between the two teams before Pittsburgh took a 1-0 lead late in the second period. It wasn't until there was only about 3:00 minutes remaining in regulation that Ryan Ellis scored the tying goal to force the game to overtime. It was Sidney Crosby that scored in the shootout to give the Penguins the victory. Overall, it was a positive locker room as they knew they had a solid defensive effort, continuing to build on the previous three victories they earned. Hear from Ryan Ellis, Rocco Grimaldi, Pekka Rinne and head coach Peter Laviolette in Justin Bradford's post game report.

Matthias Strohn‘s The German Army and the Defense of the Reich: Military Doctrine and the Conduct of the Defensive Battle, 1918-1939 (Cambridge University Press, 2011) is an important challenge to the existing literature on interwar German military doctrine. The stunning German victories in 1939 and 1940 have usually been attributed to their practice of “Blitzkrieg” (Lightning War). The inventive use of armored divisions and airpower allowed the Wehrmacht to sweep its enemies from the battlefield with relatively low casualties (on the German side, at least) and with little negative impact on the German homefront or domestic economy. James Corum, Robert Citino (a recent interviewee) and others have traced the roots of this combined arms doctrine in the interwar period, focusing on the “stormtroop” innovations World War One and the advocacy of mobility above all else by planners like Hans von Seeckt. But Strohn believes that this understandable fixation on the roots of Blitzkrieg has blinded us to the practical importance of defensive doctrine in the 100,000 man Reichswehr. With no hope of challenging France (a fact brought painfully to life in the 1923 occupation of the Ruhr) and little prospect for success even against the Polish army, German strategists (Joachim von Stulpnagel more than Seeckt) concentrated on defensive doctrine, hoping to survive an initial attack long enough to organize (perhaps) a guerrilla campaign or to die gloriously in arms. Based on extensive archival research, Strohn's book should provoke a conversation among scholars of the German army that will refresh the debate about interwar doctrine.
