Pour l'Organisation mondiale de la santé (OMS), la maigreur correspond à un indice de masse corporelle (IMC) inférieur à 18. Parmi les personnes maigres selon le critère reconnu par l'OMS, certaines souffrent de maigreur constitutionnelle, autrement dit, de résistance à la prise de poids. Les maigres constitutionnels ne présentent pas de troubles du comportement alimentaire, mangent normalement et ne souffrent d'aucune pathologie causant une perte de poids. Ils ont toujours été maigres, de sorte que leur courbe de poids ne présente pas de cassure. Leurs bilans biologiques et hormonaux sont normaux, et tous les organes de l'organisme fonctionnent normalement. Les femmes concernées ont leurs règles, contrairement à ce qui se passe en cas d'anorexie mentale. Les maigres constitutionnels représenteraient moins de 1% de la population. Ces personnes sont en bonne santé, et pourtant, elles sont en permanence soupçonnés d'être malades, en particulier de souffrir d'anorexie. De plus, elles sont parfois confrontées à de la discrimination à raison de leur aspect physique, et les retentissements psychologiques peuvent être importants. Elaura est maigre constitutionnelle. Son indice de masse corporelle la place dans la catégorie des personnes dénutries, selon l'OMS. Pourtant, elle mange à sa faim et elle est en bonne santé. Simplement, elle ne prend pas de poids. Lorsque j'ai rencontré Elaura, il y a trois ans, je me suis dit quasiment instantanément "elle est trop maigre cette fille". Ensuite, quand j'ai appris qu'elle était comédienne, je me suis dit "ah voilà, ceci explique cela, elle doit tout faire pour ne pas grossir, car elle travaille dans un milieu où tout n'est que paraître". Et puis, j'ai partagé des repas avec elle, j'ai discuté avec elle, je suis allée au-delà des apparences et je me suis rendue compte que je m'étais complètement trompée. Elaura n'est pas trop maigre, elle est comme elle est. Elle ne s'affame pas pour réussir dans le cinéma, mais elle ne se gave pas non plus pour avoir un physique plus bankable, ou pour faire taire les personnes qui jugent son physique, comme j'ai pu le faire. J'ai appris grâce à elle, et j'essaye désormais de ne pas m'intéresser au physique des femmes qui m'entourent, mais plutôt à leur personne dans leur entièreté. Ce n'est pas facile de déconstruire nos schémas de compétition les unes envers les autres. Et le discours plein de sagesse d'Elaura m'y aide. Bonne écoute !
