Episode Highlights: Bill recounts a tragic incident from his early career, where two coworkers lost their lives in a drinking and driving accident just days before Christmas With the holiday season approaching, Bill emphasizes the importance of planning for safe transportation after festive gatherings Bill urges us all to engage in open conversations about safety, both in the workplace and among loved ones Beyond drinking and driving, Bill emphasizes the need to address all forms of impaired and distracted driving Prevention is always preferable to dealing with the aftermath of poor decisions The importance of checking in with coworkers, friends, and family to ensure they have a safe plan for getting home after consuming alcohol The holiday season should be a time of joy, gratitude, and family bonding, not marred by avoidable accidents - by making safe choices, we can ensure happier memories for all Toolbox Talk Discussion Questions: In this episode, Bill talks about an impaired driving accident that killed two coworkers over the holidays. Why do you think it is important to be especially vigilant around impaired driving during the holiday season? How can we apply the message of “Get home safe” to our personal lives? Does anyone have a personal story about impaired driving? Quotes: “They were fathers, they were husbands, they were coworkers, and they were friends. And sitting there sharing their pain, sharing their grief, knowing that their children were going to grow up without their fathers…it's just horrible that a season of joy turned into a season of misery for their families.” "I can't imagine the pain the family went through.”" "Find the courage. Find the time. Spread the message. Have a plan to get home safe and sound." "My ask is that as we come into the holiday season, a season of joy and giving and gratefulness that we find time to talk about having a plan to get ourselves home safe and sound to our families and loved ones." "Be brave and have hard conversations. Check in with your coworkers, your loved ones, your family, your friends." Links: National Stone, Sand & Gravel Association website

Today's guest is an entrepreneur and storyteller! He is a recent addition to the roster of SAPs at EO Boston, his first exposure to entrepreneurship goes back to his days assisting his Dad on landscaping and home remodeling jobs. Introducing, Bill Duguay, the President and CEO of Duguay Consulting Group. Bill joins Mark Stiles to discuss his captivating journey into the entrepreneurial realm. Bill shares his advice on how to overcome being a roadblock in your future endeavors. Takeaways:Bill grappled with the challenge of both being the brightest mind in the room and aspiring to be the foremost subject matter. What changed his mind was participating in a 360 anonymous review where he realized, it's perfectly fine to release your grip on matters, seek assistance, and connect with individuals on a deeper and more meaningful level. At the end of the day, we need to be the ones to decide whether we interpret things as it's happening to us. Using these situations as learning experiences will help us maintain a healthy attitude and truly switch a positive light on in our brains.Bill suggests seeking a leadership team to help your company. Bill expresses how crucial it is to build an environment where your client feels safe and welcomed. This roots in the leadership of any company. The lack of recognition of this can result in a client not feeling respected and cared for. The team should own a level of vulnerability that comfortably helps them move forward.Vulnerability in a company is important to have. Without this, the walls surrounding the dedicated and loyal team will crumble causing a rift in the work environment. Companies should require leadership, encouragement, coaching, and teaching. Incorporating honesty within your workforce can advocate a safe space for open thoughts and limit defensiveness. When seeking an inspiring leadership coach, connect with someone who encourages you to be the best version of yourself. That perfect coach who will view your business as relational and not transactional is someone worth keeping around. In this episode of the Thoughtful Entrepreneur, your host Josh Elledge speaks with the Owner, HR Strategist & Culture Creator of People-Powered Solutions, Lori-Ann Duguay.Lori highlighted employees' ten basic needs at work and how meeting these needs can attract and retain high-performing talent. She emphasized that while these needs have always been there, the pandemic has brought them to the forefront. In an increasingly remote and flexible work environment, work-life balance and positive employee experiences have become more critical than ever.Lori made an interesting point about the generational differences in the importance placed on these needs. While the needs don't change, how they are prioritized may vary across different generations. For example, younger generations are accustomed to instant feedback and require ongoing feedback to stay engaged, while older generations may prefer a different approach.Another key takeaway from the episode was the importance of clear communication and providing feedback. Lori stressed the need to avoid the notion that no news is good. Different personality styles and generations may require different types of feedback, so leaders must take the time to understand their team members' preferences and needs.Lori also shared some strategies for fostering a sense of purpose and impact within an organization. This includes aligning the work employees do with the broader meaning and effect of the company. The main goal for this episode with Darren Duguay is to talk about the Buddy Up campaign. How 3/4 of all suicides are men or boys and how we can help to change those numbers by being aware. We are trying to move the needle with programs like Buddy Up and Darren helps us by teaching us that things just don't have to be this way. By adding tools to our toolbox we can help our friends and our community to be a better place. This can be a tough subject to discuss like this on a podcast but we feel it is very important and hopefully, we all get something very valuable out of this episode. Below we link to the Buddy Up page and Canada's suicide prevention hotline.

Tonight we continue with our interview with Darren Duguay. Darren starts off by talking about things that affect athletes and their personal performance. Darren was personally struggling with addiction but he changed his focus to being busy and running away from his childhood and other things. Once Darren discovered Emotional Fitness® in 2012 it was the missing piece to his puzzle. Then I pose a hypothetical question to Darren and the answer may surprise you. Darren tells us it can come down to the pre-existing conditioning of the athletes from a team, simply fascinating. Darren talks to us about Holistic fitness and at least four components are involved, mental, physical, spiritual and emotional. We learn how important these components are and when one or more are missing how the chair can topple over. In a bit of a Twist, Darren asks Diane and I some questions, the tables have turned indeed. So we play a game and Darren asks the questions and we score ourselves. After the results, Darren tells us this is just a little taste of Emotional Fitness ® and these are a few of the tools used. This exercise was fascinating and below we linked a copy of the scale in case you at home would like to try this. More tools in one's toolkit can't hurt and hopefully, people out there find this helpful in some way. Please check out our Facebook page and see our other guests https://www.facebook.com/Motivate-To-Move-211714423589584The link to the wonderful scale Darren offered to share with our listeners, thanks so much, Darren. https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1gKdi1co7OR4eFHV2xUxSKp5GVatCGBL_?usp=sharing
Tonight our very special guest is Darren Duguay, we met at the 8@8 on a Saturday morning at the YMCA in Moncton while running. We learn that Darren served in the military for 27 years and we want to thank Darren for all his service. We talk about Darren and his Boston Marathon runs and how a total team commitment got everyone through to the end. Then we get onto the 2013 Boston marathon when the bombs went off and how that affected Darren and the rest of the team. A moment in time a person would probably never forget. After leaving the Canadian Forces Darren went on a different path and he asks us some questions, such as how would an injury affect an individual or athlete, very interesting. Darren tells us that he was running in Kabul Afghanistan and sometimes while there it would get up as high as nearly 50 degrees celsius, Wow! Darren tells us he started running in his childhood and in his little community Darren faced a lot of trauma. While still young he was told he needed an inhaler because of his asthma. After a short period of time, Darren traded his inhaler for a pair of sneakers and that's where it all started. After the age of 45, Darren learned he was running to run away from his problems instead of facing them. The story Darren tells us is very inspiring and we believe everyone should listen and hear how a person overcame all to get to where he is today. There is no stopping Darren. We also get into Holistic fitness and Emotional Fitness ® and Darren explains this so well. He goes in-depth and part two is even more in-depth. Darren's talk is excellent and we hope you enjoy listening to this episode and part two as much as we did recording it.

Shirley Ann Duguay was a loving, single mother of five children who went missing one morning in October 1994 from her home town on Prince Edward Island in Canada. The investigation quickly closed in on her Ex- common law husband Doug Beamish as the number one suspect, but didn't have much evidence to rely on initially. As the investigation continued, RCMP began to come across scattered clues and ended up convicting beamish on some very obscure evidence that they found. This case would set precedence for a new type of DNA evidence to be used in court! If you liked listening to the show and want to hear more from us in the future then please rate review and subscribe to us in Apple podcasts or follow us on your favorite podcatcher. On March 17th, 2013 Alain Duguay and his friends found themselves in the path of an avalanche that was classified as a size 3.5. They were in Cherry Bowl in Terrace BC and in terms of the avalanche's destruction -- it's right in between being able to bury a car, destroy a small building or break trees and being able to destroy a railway car. It's a happy ending as he and his friends were rescued by four Terrace locals and serves as a living testament to what it feels like to be buried alive and how a few extra turns ultimately put them in the path of the white dragon.
