This week, Vicky McClure chats to Simon about her new limited series ‘Insomnia', which sees a mother approaching her fortieth birthday forced to grapple with her traumatic past after she develops insomnia. Mark gives his thoughts on various new releases, including ‘Two Tickets to Greece', a French comedy-drama starring Laure Calamy (of ‘Call My Agent' fame) which follows two childhood friends who cross paths after many years and finally decide to take their dream vacation to Greece; and ‘Hoard', a social realist psychodrama, which sees a teenager living in a foster home encouraged by a previous resident to revisit her childhood memories of her mother who used to be a hoarder. The big review of the week is 'If', John Krasinski's latest, which sees a 12-year-old girl, who can see everyone's imaginary friends, embark on a magical journey to reconnect the forgotten so-called IFs with the now-adult kids who dreamt them up. Ad aiutarci, c'è Call My Agent. ⚠️ Negli ultimi minuti dell'episodio trovate tre titoli consigliati che ruotano attorno a questo tema (seguiti dai blooper, naturalmente). Agents are the hard-negotiating, multi-tasking, contract-savvy industry experts, working to match the Talent they represent with paying clients. In what can be long contractual chains, agents provide a layer of protection for performers, who trust them to act in their best interest. Our guest this time is Daniel Hinchliffe, managing director of the Soundcheck Group which includes a UK talent agency for actors and performers in theatre, tv, film and radio and also looks after directors and choreographers.Daniel also happens to have a Law degree, a Master's degree in Intellectual Property Law, specialising in Copyright Law and Artificial Intelligence, which has now led him to a PhD in the same area. All of the which means that Daniel is singularly well qualified to discuss the significance of Artificial Intelligence not only for Performance, but for the safeguarding of contracts, for the relationship between artists and agents and for the future role of agents, themselves…

Call My Agent's Andrea, Martel played by Camille Cottin, is a force to be reckoned with. In the cutthroat world she's make her own, Andrea stops at nothing to ensure her clients' success. Or her own.She has the kind of authoritarian charm most mere humans can only dream of possessing, marking a journey of many wins, motivating losses, and more than a few sacrifices…all of which made us go, well, she's having an episode.Follow us on social:Aisling (the Irish voice) - @itspronouncedashlingLela (the American voice) - @lelalondon Hosted on Acast. Hello from the South Korean Ministry of Culture's Brooklyn satellite office! This week, Tammy welcomes back Jenny Wang Medina, our resident scholar of Korean cultural exports and semiotics, for a record-tying fourth appearance on TTSG / third-anniversary spectacular! We talk about a few recent Korean/Korean American/Asian American productions: (8:30) the Netflix hit “Beef,” with Ali Wong and Steven Yeun; (31:40) the new transnational A24 flick “Past Lives,” starring Greta Lee; and (1:03:00) Hansol Jung's adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, featuring an all-Asian American cast (which recently had a run in NYC). We tried to avoid spoilers, but couldn't avoid some “Past Lives” reveals! In this episode, we ask: What makes “Beef” feel so authentically West Coast Asian American? How do you know when Shakespeare is Asian American?Who's behind today's transnational TV and film productions? What will the next “untranslatable” Korean concept be?!For more, see: * Jenny's previous TTSG appearances: Korean wig stores (October 2020), A feminist(?) K-drama about abortion (June 2022), and Fantasies of progress on K-TV (September 2022)* The sexual assault allegations against “Beef” actor David Choe and a look at his cult-like online community * Jenny's latest K-drama rec: Tale of the Nine Tailed 1938Also, Tammy highly recommends “Behind Every Star,” the Netflix K-drama remake of the excellent French comedy “Call My Agent.”Thanks for listening! Oh la la, the Drunk Women have gone to Paris! Well, they SAW some of Paris from the back of the zoom of this week's fantastic guest, the star of ' Call My Agent', actor, Fanny Sidney! Although this was recorded remotely, the team still got to do this in front of an audience, as they decided to invite their lovely Patreons along for the ride too, with the added treat of the gorgeous Parisian backdrop also providing a contrast to the criminal activity the team discussed. When 23 year old Walt Mendez (Dan Rosales) gets a survival job at a struggling low level NYC talent agency, his rage-aholic boss (Julie Halston) has a heart attack on the first day, leaving him alone, clueless and in charge. His shady ex-boyfriend conveniently resurfaces, coming on strong and making the job suddenly much more attractive. All heard through his headset at the office, “Rolling Calls” is a hilariously dark comedy in the vein of “Call My Agent” and “Hacks”- and makes the listener a fly on the wall as Walt tries to conquer show business…if it doesn't kill him first. With an all-star cast including Julie Halston, Richard Kind, Matt Doyle, Wesley Taylor, Luis Miranda, Erin Davie, Brittney Mack, Andrea Macasaet, Orville Mendoza and more, this comedy will be your new aural addiction. This week we talk to John Morton, the writer famous for classic TV hits like WIA, Twenty Twelve and People Like Us. He's been brave enough to take on our favourite show, the much-loved French series Call My Agent and create and direct the British version, Ten Per Cent. He talks to us about why agents are so fascinating and the complicated business of writing tightly scripted comedy. With eight episodes available to view on Amazon Prime, John tells us about the lead cast members, how and why he made the main characters so different to suit a British audience. We explore the gaping differences between British and French culture: Are we simply much less glamorous? Or, unlike the French, are we just unable to say what we really mean? The critics were uncertain and divided to start with but became lured in and are looking forward to Series Two – if it happens. We very much hope so, and John talks openly about the challenges of taking on such a project. Stars playing cameos of themselves include Dominic West, Helena Bonham Carter, Kelly Macdonald and David Harewood.
Join us as we chat with our wonderful agents, Josh and Tracey Adams, about everything from how they got into agenting and what an agent actually does to how WE signed with Adams Literary and how Josh and Tracey pitched our books to editors. We're getting ready to do our first Q&A episode and we'd love your questions! Leave us a voice message, email us at pubdates@gmail.com,or leave us a comment over on the newsletter. Everyone who asks us a question goes into a draw for a very special prize. Make sure to sign up for the Pub Dates newsletter that publishes each time a new episode drops. It's full of images of the things we discuss, plus behind-the-scenes snippets and a comment section where you can join in on the fun. You can also add The Isles of the Gods and Nightbirds on Goodreads, and U.S. readers can officially preorder Nightbirds right now!

“Poilievre derangement syndrome” has taken hold of legacy media reporters this week, as they attempted to tie Poilievre's support of the Freedom Convoy to the horrific Buffalo shooting. Poilievre's rivals, Patrick Brown and Jean Charest, couldn't help but pile on. The Brown campaign even went as far as to alert all Conservative members that a “high-profile” Poilievre supporter used “alarming language” that closely resembles the idiotic “white replacement theory.” But it doesn't stop there. The legacy media also attacked Poilievre over holding and publicly disclosing his cryptocurrency assets while promoting the benefits of decentralized currency during his campaign. The problem for the legacy media is that not only was it not a secret that Poilievre held crypto assets, it is entirely legal and there are actually more Liberal MPs that disclosed crypto assets than Conservatives. Plus, the format of the Conservative Leadership Debate continues to make headlines but for all the wrong reasons. This week, a Globe and Mail columnist complained that the candidates do not consume Canadian arts and culture. Have you ever watched Canadian TV shows such as “Call My Agent!” or “Orphan Black”? Don't fret – nobody has. Candice and True North producer Harrison Faulkner discuss these stories and more. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The Burnt City is the biggest production to date from the pioneering immersive theatre company Punchdrunk. As the company takes up residence in the former Royal Arsenal buildings of Woolwich, their first permanent space, they draw on the Greek tragedies of Agamemnon and Hecuba to reinterpret the Trojan war as a dystopian future noir. The French comedy drama, Call My Agent, was one of the breakout hits of lockdown. It has spawned a Turkish version, an Indian version, and now an English version called Ten Percent. John Morton, the creator of BBC mockumentaries Twenty Twelve and W1A, joins Front Row to discuss the challenge of recreating the Parisian series in London. Fresh from a sold-out UK tour this month, singer songwriter Jack Savoretti is live in the studio to perform his new single Dancing Through The Rain. The track is the second to be taken from his forthcoming release Europiana Encore, a special extended edition of his 2021 chart topping album, Europiana. Paris has been the location for lots of recent TV shows, with some scepticism from people in the city. In Netflix's Emily in Paris, the young American heroine takes endless selfies in front of glamorous locations. Several memes cropped up with Emily in front of piles of rubbish or the Gilets Jaunes protests. Today's Martha Kearney speaks to French-Italian actress Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu who has appeared in Call My Agent and Emily in Paris, and will be part of the next series of The Crown. Novelists and Go Fug Yourself editors Heather and Jessica are back to talk about the Sex & The City...update? reboot? whatever you call it, you can also call it And Just Like That. And you can ALSO call it "tone-deaf," "cringey," and "a clumsy character assassination," as the legendary HBO sit-rom-com returns with a bunch of new characters, and one very notable absence. Is there anything to relate to here? Does the show, as it used to, still do a couple of things extremely well while being exhausting the rest of the time? And couldn't they just have given Samantha COVID? Later, Dan Cassino was NOT a crackpot for suggesting that many Netflix properties would benefit from a faster watch speed, and then we went Around The Dial with Love Life, Live In Front Of A Studio Audience, The Big Leap, The Monkees, and Call My Agent!. Listener Laura hoped there wouldn't be "Bad Blood" between her and the panel when she submitted yet another X-Files ep for the Canon. Yellowstone won, wasting the court's time lost, and we contemplated the legendary hookups of the Big Apple in a non-regulation Game Time. It's Listmas with everyone revealing their bests of the year, and we're reflecting back on the best TV shows of 2021. One of them wrapped it's third season this week; perfect timing for the New Yorker to publish a quite intense profile of it's main star. While filming Succession, where does Jeremy Strong end and Kendall Roy begin? We already know what will be Myf's fave of the year, after seeing the trailer for a new doco on Kenny G. And as we wind towards Christmas, don't invest in a Chanel Advent Calendar. Really, don't.
