Gary Bremermann's journey isn't what you'd call traditional. He didn't just study, graduate, and land a predictable career—he hitchhiked across North America, dropped out of college (twice!), built a global business, and burned out before finally finding his calling in his mid-30s. Now, as a career coach and recruiter in Japan, he's helping others navigate their own career paths without the detours and burnout. In Part 1 of this two-part series, Gary takes us through his unconventional journey—from being an 18-year-old hitchhiker learning life lessons on the road to running a multi-office export business, only to realize financial success wasn't the key to happiness. Key Highlights of Our Interview:The National Geographic Effect – “I grew up with every issue ever published. That's how I started dreaming beyond my small town.” How a childhood surrounded by travel magazines planted the seed for a global career.Dropping Out, Twice – “I quit university, hitchhiked across the U.S. and Canada, and learned more about people than I ever could in a classroom.” Gary's early lessons on resilience, adaptability, and making unexpected connections.Building (and Surviving) a Business – “I chased financial success, built an international company, and ended up completely burned out. My business was crushing me.” Why success without purpose isn't sustainable.Finding His True Calling – “I hired a coach, and it changed everything. I finally saw a way out.” How coaching saved Gary from burnout—and led him to his real passion: helping others find fulfilling careers._____________________Connect with us:Host: Vince Chan | Guest: Gary Bremermann______________________--Chief Change Officer--Change Ambitiously. The “Meet the Monastics” podcast from Deer Park Monastery, hosted by Brother Minh An, features weekly conversations with monastics about their journeys and inspirations. In this episode, he interviews Brother Minh Nhan, also known as Brother Kindness, who shares his unique story as one of the few monastics of Mexican descent in the Plum Village tradition. Brother Minh Nhan's journey began with an interest in spirituality during high school, sparked by reading Siddhartha and the Kalama Sutta, which encouraged him to explore and trust his own experiences. He also found unexpected spiritual mentors through a yoga class he joined, thinking it was a pottery course. His college path led him to advanced studies in mathematics, but he eventually left academia, seeking a life of greater purpose and spiritual practice. This pivotal decision was influenced by his deepening mindfulness practice, which had provided stability during challenging times. Choosing monastic life allowed him to align his values with his desire to benefit others, realizing that spiritual practice could offer lasting peace and service to those around him. His reflections highlight the importance of play and simplicity in daily life, helping balance the rigorous study and introspection of monastic training. Brother Minh Nhan is committed to the practice and hopes one day to share Buddhism with the Mexican community, while continuing to grow in the Plum Village tradition. The episode encourages others to explore monastic life, emphasizing that a diverse community can be enriched by newcomers.

In this episode of the Torsion Talk podcast, Ryan continues his deeply personal series by diving into part two of his journey, where he candidly discusses the struggles he faced in his early adulthood. From dropping out of high school to becoming involved in drug dealing and surviving intense, life-threatening situations, Ryan's story is a powerful testament to the dangers of bad choices and the possibility of redemption. This episode is not only a raw account of addiction and survival but also a reminder that even in the darkest moments, change is possible. Dropping Out of High School and Falling into the Wrong Crowd Ryan starts this episode by reflecting on the moment he dropped out of high school and how it marked the beginning of a downward spiral. After moving back to his hometown, Ryan describes how he began associating with people who introduced him to drugs, particularly opioids, which would later play a significant role in his struggles. His story provides an honest look at how falling into the wrong crowd can lead to poor decisions and dangerous paths. The Drug-Dealing Lifestyle and Addiction Ryan then goes deeper into his involvement in drug dealing, recounting how he was introduced to selling drugs by a new acquaintance. He shares his experiences of being exposed to substances like ecstasy, meth, and ketamine (Special K). Throughout this period, Ryan lived a life of constant partying, underground raves, and the growing dangers that came with the drug trade. This section highlights the chaotic and unpredictable nature of addiction and how it led him to moments of desperation. The Turning Point: A Brush with Death and a Moment of Reflection The pivotal moment in this episode comes when Ryan recounts a life-threatening encounter involving a potential confrontation with armed individuals. Faced with the possibility of killing or being killed, Ryan begins to realize the gravity of his situation. This moment becomes a significant turning point in his journey, leading him to question the life he's been living and consider making a change. Dealing with the Consequences of Bad Decisions Ryan also discusses how his choices led to losing trust, getting involved with dangerous people, and feeling isolated from his loved ones. He opens up about how pride and ego played a role in pushing him deeper into the lifestyle and the regret that came with these decisions. This segment is a reflective account of the emotional toll that addiction and crime can have on one's mental health and relationships. A Glimpse of Hope: Small Miracles and Signs of Change Towards the end of the episode, Ryan hints at the “small miracle” that occurred in his life during this chaotic period, setting the stage for the next part of his story. This section provides a glimmer of hope and serves as a reminder that even in the darkest moments, there can be light and the opportunity for redemption. Final Thoughts: Overcoming the Darkest Times This episode is not just a personal story—it's a lesson in overcoming adversity. Whether you're dealing with addiction, bad influences, or simply need inspiration to make a change, Ryan's journey in this episode of Torsion Talk serves as a raw, honest reminder that even the hardest paths can lead to growth and transformation. The Rich Zeoli Show- Full Episode (08/12/2024): 3:05pm- Green Energy Costs Automakers 2,450 Jobs: The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board writes, “Stellantis is showing what the real green-energy transition looks like: On Friday the auto maker announced plans to lay off 2,450 workers in Michigan as it ramps up electric-vehicle production…Car makers are struggling to sell higher-priced cars as consumers pull back after three years of inflation. At the same time, the rich labor agreement that Stellantis, Ford and GM struck last autumn with the United Auto Workers is raising costs. The companies need healthy profits from gas-powered trucks to subsidize their money-losing EV production. Hence Stellantis's scramble to slash costs. The company last month announced buyouts for salaried workers in the U.S. On Friday it said it will lay off as many as 2,450 production workers in Warren, Mich., where it produces its classic Ram 1500 pickup, as it rolls out a new electric model. Workers can send a thank you card to UAW president Shawn Fain.” You can read the full article here: https://www.wsj.com/opinion/the-real-green-energy-transition-auto-maker-layoffs-stellantis-6fea81f9?mod=opinion_lead_pos2 3:15pm- Copyin Kamala or CopyCat Kamala: During a recent campaign rally in Las Vegas, Nevada Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris advocated for a new policy which would end taxes on tips. Doesn't that sound familiar? Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has been openly campaigning on a “No Tax On Tips” pledge for months. Also worth noting, Harris was the tie-breaking vote on the Inflation Reduction Act—which expanded the size of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and consequently its ability to crackdown on unpaid tips. 3:40pm- While speaking with Jonathan Karl on ABC's This Week, Republican vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance said of Kamala Harris's failed attempt to crackdown on unlawful migration: "We have a wide-open Southern border because our border czar actually set a lot of open border policies." 4:05pm- NIH Violated First Amendment, Deleted “Animal Testing”: Emma Camp of Reason.com writes: “The National Institutes of Health (NIH) violated the First Amendment rights of animal rights activists whose social media comments were deleted by the agency, a federal appeals court ruled last week. The agency had been deleting all comments on its Facebook and Instagram pages that contained certain keywords related to criticism of the agency's use of animal testing. Comments containing words like animal, testing, and cruel were singled out for deletion as part of a broader policy of deleting ‘off-topic' comments.” You can read the full article here: https://reason.com/2024/08/06/the-nih-deleted-comments-criticizing-animal-testing-a-federal-court-says-that-violates-the-first-amendment/ 4:30pm- Biden Had Health Scare Prior to Dropping Out of Race: Managing Editor Noor Ibrahim of The Daily Beast writes: “Officers from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department rushed to clear roads and secure the perimeter of a hospital that had been placed on standby to treat President Joe Biden for a medical issue last month, according to radio transmission recordings obtained by the Daily Beast. It remains unclear what exactly the undisclosed medical issue was, though the White House announced later that day he had been diagnosed with COVID-19…The radio transmissions were broadcast on July 17, after the president abruptly canceled a speaking engagement on a campaign trip in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was set to address Hispanic voters at the UnidosUS event.” You can read the full report here:  https://www.thedailybeast.com/listen-vegas-cops-scramble-to-secure-hospital-for-biden-health-scare?ref=author 5:05pm- While speaking with CBS News chief election correspondent Robert Costa, President Joe Biden briefly mentioned Nancy Pelosi by name when asked about dropping out of the 2024 presidential race. Biden quickly caught himself and pivoted. But as Rich notes, we all know Pelosi (along with Barack Obama, Chuck Schumer, and former Obama Administration officials) played a crucial role in removing Biden from the top of the Democrat Party's 2024 ticket. 5:20pm- During an interview with Jen Psaki, former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi called Joe Biden one of the greatest presidents ever—but that he was not on a path toward victory in 2024, suggesting the switch from Biden to Kamala Harris was entirely about winning. 5:30pm- During his interview with CBS News chief election correspondent Robert Costa, President Joe Biden called Donald Trump a “genuine danger to American security.” Shouldn't Biden moderate the rhetoric considering Trump was nearly assassinated less than a month ago? 5:40pm- Minnesota Bartender Says Walz's COVID Policies Bankrupted Her Business: Steven Vago and Chris Nesi of The New York Post report: “A former Minnesota bar owner who now commutes two hours a day to sling suds in neighboring Wisconsin said Gov. Tim Walz's restrictive pandemic-era lockdowns in the state ‘decimated' local businesses—and caused financial ruin for those who stood up for their livelihoods. ‘I think he's an evil man who overstepped his role as the governor. He took small businesses and ripped them up. He destroyed us,' Lisa Zarza, 52, told The Post.” You can read the full article here: https://nypost.com/2024/08/11/us-news/minnesota-bar-owner-says-evil-tim-walz-forced-her-into-bankruptcy-with-covid-closures/ 6:05pm- Copyin Kamala or CopyCat Kamala: During a recent campaign rally in Las Vegas, Nevada Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris advocated for a new policy which would end taxes on tips. Also worth noting, Harris was the tie-breaking vote on the Inflation Reduction Act—which expanded the size of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and consequently its ability to crackdown on unpaid tips. 6:10pm- According to reports, at her recent rally in Arizona, Kamala Harris required attendees to provide identification before being permitted to enter the event. Ironically, in the past, Harris has suggested voter ID laws are racist. 6:15pm- Director of Public Prosecutions of England and Wales Stephen Parkinson explained that the United Kingdom will criminally punish citizens that repost messages the government deems “hateful.” He also explained that he will appropriate “dedicated police officers” to monitor social media. Similarly, UK Police Commissioner Mark Rowley has threatened to extradite and imprison American citizens over online posts. With Democrat vice-presidential nominee Tim Walz having stated that the First Amendment shouldn't extend to speech the government considers “misinformation” or “hate speech,” could similar laws restricting speech be part of the Harris-Walz campaign's platform? 6:30pm- Taylor Riggs—co-anchor of Fox Business's The Big Money Show—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Bidenomics and the impact it has had on the U.S. economy. Plus, did Kamala Harris really just steal Donald Trump's “No Tax On Tips” policy? 6:40pm- Congressman Ryan Zinke—Representative for Montana's 1st Congressional District—joins The Rich Zeoli Show to discuss Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's recent campaign rally in Montana.

The Rich Zeoli Show- Hour 2: 4:05pm- NIH Violated First Amendment, Deleted “Animal Testing”: Emma Camp of Reason.com writes: “The National Institutes of Health (NIH) violated the First Amendment rights of animal rights activists whose social media comments were deleted by the agency, a federal appeals court ruled last week. It remains unclear what exactly the undisclosed medical issue was, though the White House announced later that day he had been diagnosed with COVID-19…The radio transmissions were broadcast on July 17, after the president abruptly canceled a speaking engagement on a campaign trip in Las Vegas, Nevada, where he was set to address Hispanic voters at the UnidosUS event.” You can read the full report here:  https://www.thedailybeast.com/listen-vegas-cops-scramble-to-secure-hospital-for-biden-health-scare?ref=author

Market sentiment improved as investors were relieved by lower-than-expected weekly jobless claims in the United States. Led by TSMC, buying momentum continued Friday and spread to old economy and financial stocks to push the Taiex above 21,600 points before some investors moved to the sell side, capping the market's rise. For those who are not able to get outside, the museum will also set up video cameras on mountains to provide a live stream on YouTube accompanied by expert commentary, starting at 8 o'clock tonight. This year's Perseids have been active since July 17 and will continue until Aug. 24. She Talks Business

From Wiener Dogs to Dropping Out of High School to Going into Business 100% for Myself   This edition of Ask Me Anything was such a blast to do with my new podcasting BFF, Richard Citrin.   Richard, if you don't remember from my previous episode with him, helps people successfully navigate the inevitable happenings of life. Whether they are wins or failures, he helps his clients learn essential lessons and see opportunities for growth.    Richard's study of resilience and leadership, along with his many years as a psychologist, business entrepreneur, and corporate healthcare leader, prepared him to advise and support global and local corporate and nonprofit organizations, educators, medical professionals, and individuals to find their most extraordinary talents and use them for their success and to better the world.    Richard did an excellent job preparing a balance of personal and business questions for this Ask Me Anything. This episode is sure to be as much fun to listen to as it was to record!    It starts off with a bang as we discuss how I discovered my love for weiner dogs, why I dropped out of high school, and how I decided to fully bet on myself and go all-in with my own business.   Resilient from the Very Start    I have no idea why my kindergarten teacher said this to my mom, but she said, "You could put Lisa out in the world by herself right now, and she would survive." I have this innate resilience to just figure stuff out when I want to do something or don't want to do something. That trait was present when I was 5, and it really showed itself again when I needed to start working at 18. Another example was when I wanted to open my first Telus dealership and further my career. That figure-it-out-no-matter-what attitude is really what makes or breaks an entrepreneur.    Art: The 1 Credit Keeping Me from a High School Diploma    For the longest time, I thought I wasn't creative because the one credit I never took to finish high school was art. It's not that I'm not creative. I call creativity strategy. Strategy is about figuring out the best way to shorten the distance to help somebody get to where they want to be. I see how to position and package someone's potential and bring it to life for them.    Is AI a Threat to Creative Businesses?    Richard asks about how I expect AI to affect business and entrepreneurs. As someone who has adopted a few AI programs already into my business, I believe that AI is not going away, but it will not replace human connection or human creativity. AI is only as useful as the prompts and guidance someone gives the program. Plus, just as we all got Zoom fatigue during and after the pandemic, we're still going to crave human connection, creativity, and guidance that AI will never replace.    This was such a fun and valuable episode! Give it a listen, and be sure to subscribe and share.    What's In This Episode How Lisa came to be obsessed with dachshunds  Why Lisa dropped out of school and her start in retail Lisa's successful career in business, including owning a Telus dealership Creativity as strategy and its value in entrepreneurship Why Lisa started She Talks Business    What To Do Next Visit lisalarter.com/e157 for all resources from this episode.

In this episode I sit down with my new friend Luke Huxham! He's a rad director and filmmaker with an incredible life story. We talk about a crazy decision to drop out of college and embark on a life in Japan, and how that led to his entire career unfolding from that decision. One of my favorite parts of this episode was the back half of our conversation starting with his relentless pursuit of his passion for film, then leading to the importance of getting super clear on what you want and letting that passion consume you. He's had some insane experiences in commercial directing all the way up to the process of making a film, which made this such a fun episode as Luke has a ton of real life practical advice to share on the subject. If you're into filmmaking, storytelling, and personal growth this one is for you. Hope you enjoy.
