Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #618 is an hour of intrepid, dynamic, visionary acoustic improvised music played by The Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, 4- and 8-string ukulele, shruti box, Native flute, nylon-string and steel string guitars, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and Native drum. Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts in late April of 2025, today's show begins with the languid, relaxed folk of “Let's all Wander”, a pretty song propelled by Mariam's nylon string guitar “Leonardo” and moves into the upbeat rock of “Fire”, a driving jam with a fine vocal from Mariam and inspired, fluid piano from Bob. “Sail Away Into Your Dreamtime” is a lovely, meditative, sprawling piece underpinned by Mariam's sighing shruti box and Craig's fundamental, heartbeat Native drum with a distinctive classical theme from Bob and “Calling For An Awakening” is a beautiful, softly flowing piece fluid, watery piano and a lush, flowing vocal from Mariam. “Almighty Standing Ones of Peace” is an evocative minor blues filled with distinctive touches from the ensemble and “Arise” is a cut from Mariam's “Release” LP, rendered here with a beautiful, languid mood defined by Mariam's dancing 8-string ukulele and Craig's steadily grooving congas. “Smile” was originally rendered as a raga in its first form on Mariam's “For The Children” album and is explored at length here as a driving forest adventure song with Native flute and piano braided in a compelling, extended game of musical tag. “Let's Rise Ever Higher” appears as a coda to “Smile” and completes today's show with a beautiful vocal from Mariam and diversions into bossa nova and jazz. Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #584 is an hour of improvised, visionary acoustic music played by the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, Native flute, 4- and 8-string ukuleles, acoustic guitar, nylon string guitar and Celtic harp, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and Native drum.  Recorded live at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts in August 2024, today's show begins with the beautiful, staid love ballad “I'll Cross The Sea” featuring a fine vocal from Mariam above a tight, precise rhythm track from the ensemble.  “Pretty And Pink” brings a playful energy after the dramatic “I'll Cross The Seal” with dancing piano and ukulele and “Abundance” is a powerful rock song with an energized vocal from Mariam and driving congas from Craig.  “You Are At Peace” is a rich ballad that projects a deep longing through aching Native flute passages from Mariam above a delicate, classical structure.  “This Is The Way” is among Mariam's more powerful songs and the band leans into it with power, supporting a deep, evocative, impassioned vocal from Mariam.  “My Love For You” is a swirling, impassioned love song built around the chords Mariam caresses from her nylon-string guitar and a wonder-filled piano ostinato from Bob over Craig's surrounding heartbeat drum.  “The Stars Are Calling” is a sparse, formally structured aria for Mariam to express praise to Mother Nature and the starry night and we complete today's show with the extended tale of “Sparkle The Starfish”, a children's story from Mariam's “For The Children” album that is massaged and developed into a progressive musical adventure with powerful contributions from all. Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #564 is an hour of live visionary improvisational acoustic music played by the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, acoustic guitar, ukulele, mandolin, dulcimer, Celtic harp and Native flute, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on Native drum and congas.  Recorded in February 2024 at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts, today's show begins with the dramatic, stirring “The Castle Of Our Dreams”, a surreal piece with a lyrical, mystical lyric from Mariam and swirling, unsettled piano from Bob.  “Who Am I?” is a beautiful, serene, spacious piece with lovely Native flute passages and a powerful, circular gospel motif on piano and “We're The Ones” is a driving folk rock song driven by Mariam's chiming acoustic guitar and soaring vocal.  “The Presence Of The Almighty” is an alternately funky and stately song with gorgeous Native flute passages that land out ahead of the ensemble like a brave, solitary bird.  “Rays Of Light” is a waltz by Mariam with an iconic, folky feel and a fine, inspired vocal and “Still Searching” is a majestic, spacious song full of conversation and response between Mariam's soaring vocal and lyrical Native flute.  “Children Of The Stars” is an interesting drone-based take on the original from Mariam's “For The Children” album featuring alluring, rhythmic dulcimer from Mariam above a thick bed of percussion and syncopated piano.  “Your Eyes Shine” is arguably Mariam's most inspired love song and never fails to ignite.  Today's version does not disappoint with its heartbeat Native drum, active piano, tight acoustic guitar and a sensual, behind-the-beat vocal from Mariam.  We conclude today's show with “Spirit Of Fire”, a track from the “Vision Quest” album rendered here with a powerful tenderness and vulnerability. In a recent writing*, Magistrate Gabriela explains her life's journey:"My life journey expresses my passion and purpose to work always and only, ‘for the children's sake'."Initially finding the practice of law toxic and acrimonious, she left the practice of law to become a full-time mother to her four children.  In 2008, she had cancer and the chemotherapy treatments forced her to pause and be still. In this stillness, she heard a calling to go back to law. Her children were older now and she listened to this call.  This time, she practiced law in a way in which she could integrate her values and be herself in her practice. She is now a Magistrate in the Children's and Maintenance Court.  She has a master's in Restorative Justice.  She incorporates restorative justice and integrative law principles in her Court. For instance, she started the “For The Children's Sake” Mediation Project, for which she organized a team of volunteers to mediate litigation matters before the Children's and Maintenance Court. The mediators volunteer on Saturdays and they are trained to shift the parties' emphasis on the children.  This project was recognized by The Hague Institute for Innovating Law in 2019.  Note, her official and formal title is Magistrate. However, in conversation, she said to simply call her Gabby. In our conversation, we discuss:Why she hated the practice of law for the first five years of her practice, which led to her leaving the practice to become a full-time mother and support her husband's career (minister of a church)How cancer gave her the time and space to hear her inner voice speak her callingHer experience in returning to the practice of law after taking several years off to raise her childrenHer discovery of Restorative Justice – she was looking for meditation training materials and found some materials on Restorative Justice. The difference between Restorative Justice and mediationHow she incorporates Justice in her courtroom and practiceFamily-Friendly Courtroom: stuffed animals and toys for children; empowering children by allowing them to wear her robe; listening to the children and their needsFor The Children's Sake mediation projectHow developing and living with compassion and wisdom is a driving force in her life, for which she prays dailySetting the tone in her court as one that solves the child's problems, not one that rewards or punishes the parentsSome life lessons and inspirationEnjoy the season that you're in. Life has different seasons. One tends to compare themselves to others who are in a different season and this leads to suffering and causes one to miss the joys of their own season. (@21:55)Experiencing yourself as a living contradiction (@1:08:56 – 1:11:00)What being an integrative lawyer means to herHaving authenticity in your practice and giving space for different types of lawyers so people can be themselves and not a portrayal of what a lawyer is supposed to be likeLaw is about organizing and governing human relationshipsHow practicing with restorative justice and integrative law practices changed her from hating her legal practice to loving it.*https://www.wcpp.gov.za/sites/default/files/Biography-%20Mckellar%20G.pdfFor the Children's Sake Mediation Project:  Having volunteer lawyers, in private practice, volunteer on Saturdays to mediate for family law cases. For details on this project listen, starting at 1:12:46 and visit the provided link.Notable Moments:What does integrative law, or what does being an integrative lawyer, mean to you?31:42: “Law is all about governing relationships”32:32: “For me, we are in a profession whose main business is the business of human relationships, then surely we ought to want to be people who heal relationships because that speaks to social cohesion…”32:36 “ …We all talk about wanting peace on earth, but we aren't going to get peace on earth if we aren't restoring, rebuilding, and repairing  broken relationships in our society, our community, in the business world, in the environmental world, in the family sphere, in the schools, wherever it is.”33:02: “It feels like somebody hijacked the legal profession and it became a profession of adversarial winner -loser, rewarder – punisher, and we completely lost sight of the thread of understanding that as legal practitioners, we should be in the business of healing relationships.”(@ 36 seconds)How do you work with your team, and not to or for them?  Listen to Magistrate McKellar discuss how this shift to “with” has a significant and profound impact on leadership and meaningful change.  (@51 seconds)How do you think being an integrative lawyer will change the way you feel about practicing law? We often go out of our way to make big sacrifices FOR OTHERS. Fixing our kids issues FOR THEM. Helping my wife FOR HER. Teaching my kids awesome skills FOR THEM. Even staying married FOR THE CHILDREN! It's no way to live and only leads to blame and resentment. Either you are doing it for you, or you are doing it for YOU. There's no use denying it
