Is your life centered on the Glory of God? Do you live in the Power of the Holy Spirit? In the conclusion of Kingdom Come Pastor Chad explains each word on the verse "For Yours is the Kingdom, The Power, The Glory Forever...Amen"
Luke 11:1-2 Matthew 6:9-13 Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.Matthew 6:7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. The Lord’s Prayer is too good to pray in vain, and it’s too good to think you’re too good for. Matthew 6:9 Our Father in heaven,The emperor Caesar, Galerius, Valerius, Maximanus, Invictus, Augustus, Pontifex Maximus, Germanincus Maximus, Egypticus Maximus, Phoebicus Maximus, Sarmenticus Maximus (5x), Persecus Maximus (twice), Carpicus Maximus (6 times), Armenicus Maximus, Medicus Maximus, Abendicus Maximus, Holder of tribunal authority for the 20th time, emperor for the 19th, council of the 8th, Pro-Counsul, Ecclesiastes 5:1-2 Guard your steps and focus on what you are doing as you go to the house of God and draw near to listen… Do not be hasty with your mouth [speaking careless words or vows] or impulsive in thought to bring up a matter before God. For God is in heaven and you are on earth; therefore let your words be few. Jesus Modeled: Let your words be few and powerful. Jesus Modeled: The language of our heart is more important than the language of our tribe.Jesus Modeled: Praying ‘Our Father’ unites us as the family of God. Jesus Modeled: Abba is approachable and desires intimacy with his children, and at the same time, He is the majesty of heaven. Matthew 6:9 …Hallowed be Your name.May it be made holy, your name.Ezekiel 36:21-23 Jesus Modeled: A desire for God to demonstrate his Holiness.Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. The Kingdom of God is the rule and reign of God advancing here on earth, bringing healing and wholeness by chasing out the chaos. The Kingdom of Heaven is already with even more to come.Jesus Modeled: We have a part to play in bringing God’s Kingdom to the earth. CARD SLIDEJesus Modeled: Our free will won’t always line up with God’s will, so we must ask God for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:11 Give us this day our daily bread. Jesus Modeled: Asking God to remove a spirit of lack as we trust Him to be a perfect provider. Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors.“The world despises this theology because it thinks anger is necessary to fuel the struggle for justice, and that forgiveness will dissipate that anger. The Christian disagrees and replies, “No. I will forgive and I will struggle for justice. I may still be angry, but my struggle for justice will be purified by forgiveness and thereby become more effective.” - Kenneth Bailey Micah 6:8 The Lord God has told us what is right and what he demands: “See that justice is done, let mercy be your first concern, and humbly obey your God.”Forgiveness purifies our pursuit of justice.Jesus Modeled: Receiving and extending forgiveness daily. Pastor Jeremy takes us into the doxology of the Lord’s Prayer this Palm Sunday. For Yours is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory Forever!
Luke 6:47-48,NKJV- “Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.” Everything pertaining to the Kingdom of God has to be established and supported by God’s word. It is the believers source of truth. And when it comes to an effective prayer life, it is our play book. And the longer I walk with the Lord, I am convinced that the most important reality of prayer is how we experience a divine relationship with our Father. It’s an avenue of fellowship with our King, it’s also a direct line of communication with the Holy Spirit living in each born-again believer. In its simplest form, prayer is fellowship with the Almighty, our Father. At the end of the day, it’s how a human, born of His world navigates that world. And by design, faith has to be a central part of the born again life. Hebrews actually tells us its how we’re to come to God. Until we get the faith part of our new life settled, when it comes to the things of the Spirit, which prayer is, we will constantly question it’s realities. A clearer understanding of a healthy prayer life is embracing that reality that it’s simply how a born again human navigates the Spirit world. Remember last week, we talked about Adam, what did he need as far as provision? So what do you think his prayer life was about? What if God’s main thing He’s looking for is exactly what He lost with Adam, and that is simply a relationship with His creation. The Apostle Paul takes us a little further by giving us some excellent insight into a better perspective on prayer. Think about it, he’s actually praying that we’ll be able to recognize things God has already ready done for us in the spirit. Ephesians 1, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who HAS BLESSEDus with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ... 2 Peter 1, His divine power HAS GIVEN to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which HAVE BEENgiven to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature. This is where faith plays it’s most significant role in the life of a believer. Bottom line, we have to believe the things God tells us in His word, before we see anything happen. I cannot over emphasis maintaining a confident faith attitude in our prayer life. And make no mistake, our enemy knows this, and will be relentless at distracting us. This is why is is absolutely vital we have a clear understanding of the Love our Father has for us. Seriously, His love for each of us is so incredible, think about it, He took ALL SIN!!! God only sees us in our spirit, not in our sin, not even in our humanity. We need to become more Son conscious than sin conscious. We are the righteousness of God in Christ. The righteous are as bold as a lion, and we are to come boldly into His throne of grace. And sometimes for nothing more than to just fellowship. What if we put fellowship with our Father right in the middle of our daily routine? I can promise you this, the more we practice fellowship, the more His nature, His personality, His attitude becomes ours. But if we’re always looking to our intellectual, human nature, not to mention, this fallen world to confirm something that makes no sense to our humanity, then faith and prayer will always be that mysterious, if it be God’s will kind of thing we’re always a little unsure of. Remember, Jesus told us that as we practice putting the things of the Kingdom first, many of these worldly things we want will simply come our way. Here’s another key Kingdom principle concerning prayer:1 Thessalonians 5:16,NKJV- REJOICE always, PRAY without ceasing, in everything GIVE THANKS, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Rejoice, Pray, Be Thankful— This is the will of God. Even though all three of these are all very significant qualities of the Christian life, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the Holy Spirit put prayer between rejoicing and thanksgiving. Think about it, if our prayer life is established on faith, then we should be rejoicing because faith already has the answer. And if we know we’ve already got the answer, then why wouldn’t we be thankful? I personally believe Paul is simply establishing the proper faith attitude for an effective prayer life. Going back to Matthew, I want us to take a closer look at Jesus’ response to His disciples about prayer. Now the very first, most important truth around this passage is that we have to read it, think on it, interpret it in light of our new covenant. Second, Jesus was giving us a model for prayer, not something that was to be recited from some religious practice. Matthew 6:9-13,NKJV- “In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. (Holy is His name. Reverence & honor)Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (What’s first in your life?)Give us this day our daily bread. (Our needs are met day to day. We don’t need it till we need it. Faith pleases God.)And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. (Unforgiveness stops faith.)And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. (Let me see it, strengthen me not to yield to it.)For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Remember, this as a model for prayer, not something that was to be recited from some religious practice. Jesus knew exactly how humanity would be, He knew that whatever captured our focus would be the thing we magnify in our lives. And this was exactly His point in setting up an example of how to pray. First, we start with an attitude of worship, magnifying God. Second, we bring our request and intercession, in love, to Him. Then finish up with another level of praise and worship. Praise blesses our Father and strengthens us. This is why we start with services with worship. Psalm 22 says, “You are holy Lord, dwelling in the holy place where the praises of Your people are offered.” 1 Thessalonians 5:16,NKJV- REJOICE always, PRAY without ceasing, in everything GIVE THANKS, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Now just like this natural world exists according to natural law, the spirit world exists according to spiritual law, God’s divinely instituted order. Romans actually tells us that the works of the law are excluded by the law of faith. And when it comes to a healthy, successful prayer life, faith is the only way! Mark 11:22-25,NKJV- “So Jesus answered and said to them, “Have faith in God. For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. “And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses.” Remember, unforgiveness stops faith. Unfortunately, out of habit and religious tradition, instead of accepting our God ordained instructions, too many of us continue going to God about things He told us to deal with. v.23, For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. “Believe you receive it” this is faith, a heartfelt conviction based on the fact that we trust what God says. v.24, Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. Now I’m not talking about some kind of mind game where we’re pretending to believe something’s real that isn’t. I’m talking about functioning in a world beyond our natural one. The just shall live by faith. Hebrews makes it very clear, “those who come to God must believe...” 1 John 5:14-15,NKJV- “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” The moment the born again actually choose to believe, we have divine access to God’s world, with the ability to bring its realities into our world. Believing connects us to God’s ever existing power. This is faith. Faith is the bridge between the two worlds. According to Hebrews, faith is substance of things, hoped for. But because God only has imperfect people to work through, many times His power is hindered because of our unbelief. Truth is, we honestly haven’t accepted the fact that it’s really this simple, “Only Believe” Fact is, as we’re transformed, our believing starts overriding doubt and we start seeing greater results. And this is why ultimately, an effective prayer life has to be built around our personal fellowship with our Father. John 15:7,MSG- If you make yourselves at home with Me and My words are at home in you, you can be sure that whatever you ask will be listened to and acted upon. Everything pertaining to the Kingdom of God has to be established and supported by God’s word. At the end of the day, it’s how a human, born of His world navigates that world.
It may feel like the enemy has enjoyed an open invitation to you and your family. But thanks be to God that the power of the Holy Spirit that lives in us is greater. Our God is mighty to save and able to break every chain.
In order to Live Loved By God, we need to understand how He loves us, and what He has done historically to make His love plain to the whole world. Be encouraged in how you can live loved by God and meditate on these scriptures to grow your understanding of how to walk in the grace of God. 2 Chron 7:14-15 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attend unto the prayer that is made in this place. Rom 3:23-24 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Rom 10:9-10 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. Jn 14:6 Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me. ACTION STEPS 1) We pray to the Father Mt 6:9-15 9“Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven. 11‘Give us this day our daily bread. 12‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. [For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’] 14“For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15“But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions. We pray: TO the Father THROUGH Jesus Empowered BY the Holy Spirit Jn 15:16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. Jn 16:23 And in that day you will ask Me nothing. Most assuredly, I say to you, whatever you ask the Father in My name He will give you. 2) We are unconditionally LOVED by the Father “Cultivate a right view of God. A right view of God causes you to want to pray” Mike Bickle Jn 3:16-17 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. “For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. 3) We are ADOPTED by the Father Rom 8:15-17 For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him. 2 Cor 6:18 “I will be a Father to you, And you shall be My sons and daughters, Says the LORD Almighty.” 4) He’s a GOOD Father Luke 16:28-31 for I have five brothers—in order that he may warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’ “But Abraham said, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them hear them.’ “But he said, ‘No, father Abraham, but if someone goes to them from the dead, they will repent!’ “But he said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded even if someone rises from the dead.’” Mat 3:16-17 After being baptized, Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold, the heavens were opened, and he saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove and lighting on Him, and behold, a voice out of the heavens said, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased.” Rom 5:8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. James 1:17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.

Hosted by Bob Castello & Christina Lowe An Old Testament prayer that can turn your city upside down. Let's talk about it. Matthew 6: 9-13 "Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen."
The Model Prayer Matthew 6:5 “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. 6 But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you [c]openly. 7 And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. 9 In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. 10 Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
We ask this question: What is the cure? We need a new perspective. Get into the word ourselves. But how? By being careful with God’s word to know it. By choosing to do so we are honoring God. DO NOT DEPEND ON PEOPLE. We contrast Adam and Eve's decision not to believe God's word and they chose to disobey and the golden calf. Rebellion or I WANT is at the heart of deception. Can you be deceived? Yes. But how?Study the garden patternStudy how Satan fell (Ezekiel and Isaiah)Study the golden calf. About the making of a false religionStudy the bible yourself. Renewing of your mindDon’t give people authority over you. Books pastors etc. Where are your I wants? Are they aligned with God's will? And what is the "crowd" you are running in or with doing? Be cautious to not go with the flow. So what is the cure for deception?HonestyListen to God’s word and submit your heart to it. (your will)Matthew 6:12-13 Ask God to go into your heart and reveal your motives and sin. 12 'And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’ Eph 4 "as a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;"Join us for this podcast and please share. #deception #deceived

This weekend, Lead Pastor John Hampton will finish out our series called “Up Side Down.” In times of crisis, people pray. Again, we are continuing to talk about the Lord’s prayer, this time focusing in on this particular part: “For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.”
This is the 6th and last part of ‘The Model Prayer’ series, and today we looked at the last line as found in Matt.6:10 (NKJV), where it reads, “For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.” Amen. When we think of the kingdom we should think about who the King is who reigns as the ONLY Sovereign in the Universe, and look at Scriptures that speak of God’s Free Will. Unfortunately there are world-renowned Bible teachers who have stated that “the teaching of the Sovereignty of God is the worst doctrine in church today.” And this is most likely due to them presenting a straw-man argument based on the idea that such a Biblical doctrine as understood by some is that “everything is God’s will” and so therefore we sing, “Que sera sera, whatever will be will be.” But is that the Biblical Doctrine of the Sovereignty of God? What actually ends up happening is that those who oppose the Sovereignty of God exalt the “free will of man” as that which cannot be touched and that even God would never violate a man’s “free will”! Clearly those who oppose this doctrine have never read the story of Jonah found in the Bible, where quite clearly God can be very persuasive. Nor do they understand that man is bound in sin until he is regenerated (Born Again). Let me recommend two great books on this subject: ‘The Bondage of the Will’ by Martin Luther, and ‘The Freedom of the Will’ by Jonathan Edwards. For evidence of God’s Freedom to do as He pleases, see Ps.115:3 and Ps.33:8-11. This is in opposition to the “supposed” mighty “free-will” of unregenerate men, who show their anger at God’s Sovereign control of all things (Ps.2). "Oh Multidimensional Source of All Life, from whom the breath of all existence flows. Your essence exists within all realms of sound, light and vibration. Your light and love are within all things from the greatest star to the tiniest atom. I surrender my smaller will to align with the flow of Your Greater Will. In this surrender may I experience Your essence in all of my incarnations, bodies, dimensions and timelines. May Your holy kingdom come to pass – in all Universes as well as upon the density of this ascending dimension of earth. May your holy light extend to all those lost in the darkness of ignorance and foolishness. Give us this day energetic sustenance for this body, love for the heart and wisdom for the mind. Release us from the fetters of all errors that bind us, as we release all others from all blame. Deliver us from all ignorance and diversions from the true way. Free us from all lower temptations that block our true purpose. Allow me to witness your light and essence within all living things. For Yours is the eternal song that calls out and renews this Universe. I seal this prayer in faith and truth."

Intro…Welcome to the Cornerstone Baptist church podcast. My name is Justin Wheeler, I am the preaching pastor for Cornerstone and today we are in week 46 of our journey through the Heidelberg Catechism. Today, I will be talking to you about question 120-121.This week we will begin working through the Lord’s Prayer from Matthew 6:9-13.Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgives us our debt, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. This is a prayer that many of us learned as children and have repeated over the years in various settings. I first learned it with my football team in junior high and we would pray it together before games. I wasn’t a believer back then but still this prayer became etched in my memory and it still serves me well today.I became a Christian while in college and as I began to learn various spiritual disciplines that help believers grow in faith and love, this prayer became much more precious and meaningful to me. It helped me to rehearse certain truths that my heart and mind needed to meditate on. It gave me a guide for how to shape my prayers, and I really needed that because no one took me aside and taught me to pray.Transition…But in all honesty, that’s exactly what this prayer is; it is specific instruction from Jesus on how His disciples, how believers in Christs, should pray.Luke 11:1 Now Jesus was praying in a certain place, and when he finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.” 2 And he said to them, “When you pray, say: “Father, hallowed be your name…So, this is Jesus teaching all of us how to pray. Jesus is giving us a first-hand lesson on what it looks like for us to pray to God. This is how we should pray and this is how we should understand our relationship to God, whom we are praying to. And the first thing that Jesus tells us should adorn our prayers is an acknowledgment that God is Our Father.Lord’s Day Focus...Question 120: Why has Christ commanded us to address God as: Our Father?Answer: To awaken in us, at the very beginning of our prayer, that childlike awe and trust toward God, which are to be the ground of our prayer; namely, that God has become our Father through Christ, and will much less deny us what we ask of Him in faith, than our parents refuse us earthly things. For some of us, the command of Christ to call God “Our Father” comes with some difficulty or personal baggage. For some of us, the Fatherhood of God is a bit challenging because you grew up without a father. Or maybe you grew up with an angry and abusive father who never showed grace, or perhaps a weak one who never stood up for you to protect you. Some of us were blessed with wonderful fathers, strong and safe, with big hearts and firm hands; I thank God for my father.Others may struggle with the Fatherhood of God because they consider it sexist and would prefer to worship a goddess. But God hasn’t revealed Himself to us in that way. He is never called goddess, mother, or queen in the Scriptures but rather God, Father and King. In Matthew’s Gospel we see the Fatherhood of God referenced 44 times, second only to John’s gospel where God is called Father 109 times. The Fatherhood of God is foundational to Christianity. The whole goal of Christ’s mission is to reunite us with our heavenly Father.John 14:6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.Jesus is the way, the way to what, the way to the Father. When a person comes to faith in Christ they are adopted into God’s family and made a child of God and an heir of the Father’s kingdom right alongside Jesus. Through Jesus we have a relationship with God that is defined as a relationship of a father to his child. My wife and I have been married for almost 19 years and we have three children; Caroline 15, Luke 14, and Samuel 11. As they have grown and matured they have gotten better about how they ask for things, what they ask for and when they ask; but when they were younger they would ask for whatever they wanted with no regard for decorum. If they wanted something or needed something they would come with a childlike expectation that no request was too big, no want was off limits; they just came and asked. I have one son who still thinks he should have dessert after every meal and he still asks for it.Our prayers to the Father should be guided by a more mature request than for ice cream three times a day, but the attitude, the impulse, the recklessness that governs a child’s requests should inform the way we pray to our heavenly Father. Now, I am an imperfect father, but my desire is to be generous with my kids because I love them, and I want them to be happy. I want to give them good things, cool things, fun things. But my desire to be generous doesn’t even come close to God’s desire to be generous.Who is God? He is the universes Creator and Sustainer. He is holy, omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent; and He is our Father. He knows everything, even our needs before we present them to Him. We don’t have to persuade Him or manipulate Him into caring for us, He loved us before we were born, and He will love us forever and He desires to give us the best gifts in the world. Why Did Christ command us to call God “Our Father? Because Christ wants to kindle in us what is basic to our prayer – the childlike awe and trust that God through Christ has become our Father.” Childlike awe causes us to respect and revere the name of God. Childlike trust causes us to know that there is nothing greater than our Father’s will being done.Question 121: Why is it added, In Heaven?Answer: Those words teach us not to think of God’s heavenly majesty as something earthly; and to expect everything necessary for body and soul from His almighty power. There’s a song that we teach to our children and it goes like this,My God is so big, so strong and so mightyThere’s nothing my God cannot doIt is a comforting thought to know that there is nothing beyond the scope of God’s power. It is comforting to know that this limitless and powerful God is our Father. It will change our life when we grasp that this almighty God has instructed us to come to Him in prayer asking for every need that we have to be supplied by His power.God is not a limited Father who can’t tell the difference between a good gift and a dangerous one. He is not an influential man who has limits, but rather is the sovereign ruler of all who has everything at His disposal. When we pray to Our Father in Heaven we are taking our requests, the needs of our body and soul, to the very throne room of the universe. Our prayers are echoing in the throne room of Heaven. Our prayers are pinned up on Our Father’s refrigerator. God hears you and His heart is inclined to you because you are His child.I think we could all stand to learn again what it means to pray like a child. When Jesus wanted to teach his disciples about the dynamics of the Kingdom, He invited a child to come and sit next to Him and Jesus told the disciples that they needed to be more like the child. Humble, needy, unashamed, unembarrassed, bold, playful and willing to come and ask God for everything. And this God who is our Heavenly Father will meet all of our needs, both body and soul, according to His will for us and out of the almighty power that He wields.Thank you for joining me today to discuss Christian prayer. Next week, we will dig a little deeper into the Lord’s prayer to learn what it means for us to ask for God’s named to be hallowed. I hope you will join me for that discussion as we look at Lord’s Day 47 and question 122.Conclusion…If you want to learn more about Cornerstone Baptist church, you can find us online at Cornerstonewylie.org. Intro…Welcome to the Cornerstone Baptist church podcast. My name is Justin Wheeler, I am the preaching pastor for Cornerstone and today we are in week 45 of our journey through the Heidelberg Catechism. Today, I will be talking to you about question 116-119.This week’s questions are aimed at the Christian’s prayer life.Question 116: Why do Christians need to pray?Answer: Because prayer is the most important part of the thankfulness God requires of us. and also because God gives His grace and Holy Spirit only to those who pray continually and groan inwardly, asking God for the these gifts and thanking Him for them.We are still in the gratitude section of the Catechism and we need to remind ourselves that we have arrived at this point only because we have travelled through the guilt and grace sections. We started out the year 2019 by opening the first pages of the Heidelberg and learning that the greatest problem facing humanity is not a political one, it is not a financial one, nor a social one; it is a spiritual problem. We live in a natural state of sin and misery. God has graciously revealed to us that the root of all that has gone wrong in the world is the separation that exists between the Creator and His creatures. We have sinned and our sin sets us at odds with our Holy God. But God’s mercy is greater than our sin.In Christ, God has poured out grace to cover our sin. On the cross, Jesus paid our debt and has ransomed us from our guilt and into relationship with God. Once we were far off but now by the blood of Christ we have been brought near to God. By faith in Christ we now have a relationship with God and prayer is a key component in that relationship.Transition…In prayer we express our gratitude for God’s love and grace. In prayer we ask God for forgiveness, wisdom, strength, and help. In prayer we seek the comfort and guidance of the Holy Spirit. In prayer we talk to our heavenly Father. Most of us know this, but at the same time, most of us still struggle with prayer. In his book, A Praying Life, Paul Miller asks us to imagine a trip to a prayer therapist who is going to help us with our prayer struggles. The therapist begins the session by asking us to describe what it means to be a child of God.You reply that it means you have complete access to your heavenly Father through Jesus. You have true intimacy, based not on how good you are but on the goodness of Jesus. Not only that, but Jesus is your brother. You are a fellow heir with him.The therapist smiles and says, “That is right. You’ve done a wonderful job of describing the doctrine of Sonship. Now tell me what it is like for you to be with your Father? What is it like to talk with him?”You cautiously tell the therapist how difficult it is to be in your Father’s presence, even for a couple of minutes. Your mind wanders. You aren’t sure what to say. You wonder, does prayer make any difference? Is God even there? Then you feel guilty for your doubts and just give up.Your therapist tells you what you already suspect. “Your relationship with your heavenly Father is dysfunctional. You talk as if you have an intimate relationship, but you don’t. Theoretically, it is close. Practically, it is distant. You need help.”[1]I think we all need some help in the area of prayer. So, let’s see what Heidelberg has to say that might help us.Lord’s Day Focus...Question 117: How does God want us to pray so that He will listen to us?Answer: First, we must pray from the heart to no other than the one true God, who has revealed Himself in His Word, asking for everything He has commanded us to ask for. Second, we must acknowledge our need and misery, hiding nothing, and humble ourselves in His majestic presence. Third, we must rest on this unshakable foundation: even though we do not deserve it, God will surely listen to our prayer because of Christ our Lord. This is what He promised us in His Word. This is a very thorough answer and every line of it has something to teach us. Let me encourage you to take your time and go through this line by line, meditating on the instruction found here. We could spend the rest of our time in this devotion, teasing out all the points mentioned here but for the purpose of this devotion I will offer a summary of this answer. Our prayers should be directed by Scripture. The first part of this answer assumes that the person praying has a thorough grasp of Biblical truth. God isn’t interested in vain, repetitious or arrogant prayer. He is God and the way we approach Him needs to be informed by what the Bible teaches us about Him.Our prayers should be from a heart that remembers our guilt and God’s grace. We are the ones facing sin and misery, not God. God is not obligated to do anything for us, not obligated to give anything to us, not even obligated to listen to our plea for help. But He does because He is majestic and gracious. Our prayers should be motivated by the confidence that we have through Christ. We do not come to God in prayer on our own, we come through the blood and mediation of Jesus. It is because of Him that we have a relationship to God and this knowledge should guide and motivate us to prayer. So our prayers should take all of this and more into consideration.Question 118: What did God command us to pray for?Answer: Everything we need, spiritually and physically, as embraced in the prayer Christ our Lord Himself taught us.I’ve never really gotten over the fact that Jesus told His disciples that the reason they don’t have certain things is because they have failed to ask for those things. “You have not because you have asked not.” He also said that we don’t have things because we ask with wrong motives, meaning we simply ask for things that satisfy some fleshly appetite not a spiritual one.All of this, and the catechism is aimed to help us realize that we are helpless children and our God is a wise, loving and generous Father. We come to Him with every need that we can think of and when we run out of things, we look to Him and His Word to help us grasp what our true needs are, and we ask for those as well.Too many of us take prayer for granted and therefore we don’t pray. Too many of us treat prayer like an unimportant thing and therefore we don’t pray the way God tells us to. Too many of us pray selfishly and get frustrated when we don’t get what we want. But now that we have a relationship with God through Jesus, our prayers should be shaped by the Father-child relationship. We should pray with a sense of our Father’s gracious presence. We should pray with the knowledge of His Fatherly generosity. We should pray with our mind on His Kingdom and how He wants us to live while still in this world. That is how I would summarize the way Jesus teaches us to pray.Question 119: What is the Prayer?Answer: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgives us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.In this model prayer, Jesus wants us to pray sincerely, humbly and confidently. He wants us to pray with His saving grace as fuel, in fact we can’t come to God unless we come through Jesus, through the fountain of flowing grace. But by faith in Christ we come and pray.He wants us to pray from the heart and from our head. He doesn’t want vain repetitive babbling. He doesn’t want pseudo-spiritual and hypocritical speeches. He wants honest prayer to flow from the hearts of His children to their One True Father in Heaven. The essence of Christian prayer is relational communion with our heavenly Father. When Jesus teaches us to pray, He tells us to approach God with love, as a son or daughter would approach their father. He teaches us to begin our prayer with, “Our Father…” How does a child talk with their father? Loudly, boldly, unashamedly, desperately, with no regard for decorum. They will interrupt you in a second if they have a need, or a want, or even an idea. Big words never enter that conversation, but feeling, and emotion almost always do.Paul Miller,Being a child in prayer means to just come. Children are not tied up in all the details when they come to their parents. They just come.Jesus invites those who are weary and heavy laden to come to him. He doesn’t call the organized and fixed up but the broken. Why do we forget that when it comes to prayer? The dirty, imperfect and broken you is the real you. Don’t try to put on the spiritual façade in prayer. You can talk to God about whatever is on your heart, so just come as you are. Be weak and open in prayer before God. In this way you are remembering and applying the gospel to your prayer life. We need to learn helplessness. That is what a child reflects.[2]Don’t come to your God pretending to be something or someone you are not, He can see straight through that. But come as you are, open your heart to His saving grace in Christ. Repent and receive Jesus as savior and Lord, and when you bow before Him in prayer you will find all the love you will ever need. Come broken and find His compassion. Come needy and find His supply. Come confused and find His Wisdom.Thank you for joining me today to discuss Christian prayer. Next week, we will dig a little deeper into the Lord’s prayer and I hope you will join me for that discussion as we look at Lord’s Day 46 and questions 120-121.Conclusion…If you want to learn more about Cornerstone Baptist church, you can find us online at Cornerstonewylie.org. An Unforgiving heart opens door to the enemy of the human soul, Un-forgiveness is a tool the devil uses to destroy the ignorant souls. Do not allow yourselves to the trap of the devil. Show mercy for God has given you mercy. We are reminded in the “Lord’s Prayer” “..Forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors...” And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Moreover we are reminded “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.” - Matthew 6:5-15 --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/boaz-kinsman/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/boaz-kinsman/support

It’s known as the Lord’s Prayer and is Christ’s blueprint for praying from the heart. Our Messiah unveils God’s approved method of praying and shows us the essential ingredients in constructing a useful prayer.Jesus model prayer starts with acknowledging God and giving glory to Him. This allows us to humble ourselves to God, and pray from the heart.Next, it shows us our responsibility to God by following His will. Then it highlights the way to ask the Father for spiritual gifts. And then Christ places forgiveness as a necessity. The final part of the prayer heightens God’s power to lead us away from temptation and protect us from evil. This provides us the strength to live in a wicked world. As shown above, Christ is precise on how to pray. How do you pray from the heart?

Today’s MessageA common problem we all have is that we find it difficult to stop working. Fear that things will fall apart, worry that our efforts will not be enough, fear that we will be found useless. By turning to the Lord in praise we are made to deal with the issue inside of us that causes us feel like our worth is found in what we can do and accomplish.Today we wrap up our series in the Lord’s Prayer by reflecting on the doxology of praise used by the church at the end of the prayer.Today’s Scriptures | Matthew 6.7-13Matt. 6:7 “And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.Matt. 6:9 “Pray, then, in this way: ‘Our Father who is in heaven, Hallowed be Your name.10 ‘Your kingdom come. Your will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.11 ‘Give us this day our daily bread.12 ‘And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Today’s MessageWe pray ‘deliver us from evil’ as a prayer of ongoing trust and re-commitment to the Lord. We’ll see this prayer as a statement of discipleship. It is this desire of on-going deliverance to take place within me. Constantly desiring for the Lord to re-engage our trust in Him and to teach us not trust in anything else.We also believe that God is a deliverer. One of the most beautiful things that reoccurs in the pages of the Bible is God’s faithfulness to His people and Him meeting them in the most hopeless of places to bring deliverance.Today’s Scriptures | Matthew 6.7-15Matt. “And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words.“Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.“For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.
There are at least three things common to everyone alive: birth, death, and, in between those two, prayer… I have never met a person who has not prayed. It may be a spiritual prayer born of deep faith or the desperate cry in hopes that Someone might be listening after all. Everyone, everywhere, and of any age has prayed. It unites ancients, moderns, and post-moderns.At times it is as natural as breathing while at other times it is difficult and painful. Prayer can be both easy and challenging; inspiring and disappointing; gratifying and exasperating; comforting and distressing. At times our longings are abundantly fulfilled and at other times we can feel ignored and our affections betrayed. The One who prayed, “My God, My God, why have you forsakened me?” taught His followers how to pray and what to pray for. This series is a reflection on the prayer Jesus taught us.Jesus teaches us to pray for something that is not going to happen! Every follower of Jesus will face tests and temptations. So what are we praying for here since Scripture clearly tells us: “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.” So what are we praying for and what are the areas that every follower is vulnerable to?Today’s Scriptures | Matthew 6.7-15Matt. “Give us today our daily bread” is a petition to God for the provision of human needs. When we pray these words, we are asking God to provide us with the things we need to live. But these words are also a proclamation. They are a proclamation of complete dependence on and trust in God to provide for our simplest and most fundamental needs. As we pray these words God’s Spirit transforms our own hearts to live in dependence, trust, and simplicity as we await the coming of God’s kingdom.Today’s Scriptures | Matthew 6.7-13Matt. Lorissa MedranoToday’s Message:When we pray the words ‘your will be done,’ we are acknowledging God’s good intentions for earth, the reality of the present evil that is against these good intentions, and our own longing to see His will fulfilled. Praying this prayer will cost us both our worldview and our will as we are invited to partner with God in His good intentions for creation.Sermon Series:There are at least three things common to everyone alive: birth, death, and, in between those two, prayer… I have never met a person who has not prayed. Today’s MessageThere are at least three things common to everyone alive: birth, death, and, in between those two, prayer… I have never met a person who has not prayed. Daniel’s Prayer – 4 strands of the rope – 4 points Strand #1 – Humble adoration King of kings – not King Darius Puts our troubles in perspective Jews begin prayer with adoration - Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu, melekh ha'olam - "Blessed are You, LORD our God, King of the universe God is: Great and Awesome Righteous Merciful and forgiving Daniel uses terms of adoration, Jesus taught us to begin with adoration – hallowed be Your Name… Do we take the time to worship & adore God? Can you remember when you first heard The Lord's Prayer? For me it was when I was aged 5, at either the local Anglican church mum took me to or at school assemblies at the public primary school I attended. Up to about 30 years ago, The Lord's Prayer was something that most people in our society knew. Something we learned, just like learning the alphabet... Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. Matthew 6:9-13 NKJV Sometimes though I know for me as a child it became just a reciting of some words that I had learned. The heart behind the words, the understanding of what I was actually praying as missing. I was saying the words, not praying them. Today if I asked our children to pray The Lord's Prayer, they would probably have no idea what I was talking about. But if I said, 'Let's pray, who'd like to start?' they would respond with starting a conversation with God. And that's great, but sometimes the prayers become a bit self-centred, just as mine to do. We focus too much on our needs and wants. There is something about The Lord's Prayer that, when prayed from the heart, very quickly silences our flesh and enables us to position God in our lives exactly where He should be - acknowledged as our Father in heaven, Lord of all, provider, forgiver of sins, rescuer with complete sovereignty over our lives. When I am in that place of wanting to connect with God, but don't have the words to pray I often do one of two things, either pray in the spirit, or play a worship song (sometimes both). One of my favourite songs to play in these moments is Our Father/The Lords Prayer, recorded by Hillsong in 1997 on their Simply Worship II CD. I bought that CD just after I was saved. It is simply the piano and vocalist, and always takes me to that place of exalting our God. Hillsong have also recently done another version of The Lord's Prayer on their album, There's more. So today, lets pause and pray The Lord's Prayer from our heart with a complete focus on our Father in heaven. This version is from The Passion Translation. Our Father, dwelling in the heavenly realms, may the glory of your name be the centre on which our lives turn. Manifest your kingdom realm, and cause your every purpose to be fulfilled on earth, just as it is fulfilled in heaven. We acknowledge you as our Provider of all we need each day. Forgive us the wrongs we have done as we ourselves release forgiveness to those who have wronged us. Rescue us every time we face tribulation and set us free from evil. For you are the King who rules with power and glory forever. Amen Matthew 6:9-13 TPT To find out more please visit https://wendyrobinson.com.au

By Pastor Eben Eddy Scriptures (All NKJV): - Nehemiah 1:4-10 - So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven. 5 And I said: “I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love You and observe Your commandments, 6 please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned. 7 We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses. 8 Remember, I pray, the word that You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations; 9 but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name.’ 10 Now these are Your servants and Your people, whom You have redeemed by Your great power, and by Your strong hand. - Nehemiah 2:17 - Then I said to them, “You see the distress that we are in, how Jerusalem lies waste, and its gates are burned with fire. Come and let us build the wall of Jerusalem, that we may no longer be a reproach.” - Matthew 6:9-13 - In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Amen. - Matthew 7:24-25 - “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: 25 and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. - Acts 16:25-32 - But at midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them. 26 Suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken; and immediately all the doors were opened and everyone’s chains were loosed. 27And the keeper of the prison, awaking from sleep and seeing the prison doors open, supposing the prisoners had fled, drew his sword and was about to kill himself. 28 But Paul called with a loud voice, saying, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here.” 29 Then he called for a light, ran in, and fell down trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 And he brought them out and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” 31 So they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all who were in his house. .. For Yours is The Kingdom, The Power and The Glory Forever....
Is it appropriate for us to conclude the Lord’s Prayer with the traditional phrase; “For Yours is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever and ever. Amen"?
"For Yours is the kingdom and the glory, forever and ever. Amen" The Lord's Prayer
It seems daily we’re assailed by harrowing reports of conflict, hatred, and violence between people, both here domestically and abroad. These events are heartbreaking, disturbing, unsettling. The hatred and violence between people is proof of the fallen condition of humanity. If nothing else convinces us that we human beings are deeply sinful and need a Savior, these traumatic events should. The well-meaning efforts of people to bring peace to this extremely troubled world can only go so far. As believers in Christ, what should our reaction be? The Lord Jesus told us that we should pray and not lose heart. If there ever was a time for us to pray, it’s now. What should we pray for? We’ll discuss two matters to pray for in this podcast. In Matthew 6:9-13 the Lord teaches us how we should pray: “Our Father who is in the heavens, Your name be sanctified; Your kingdom come; Your will be done, as in heaven, so also on earth. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” The first part of this prayer is related to God’s need, and the second part, to our need. We’ll focus on the first part. Today God needs us to pray for His holy name to be sanctified, for His kingdom to come, and for His will to be done on earth, just as it is in heaven. In the midst of the world’s cursing of God’s name and the rebellion of sinful mankind against God, He needs us, His believers, to pray in such a way. Note 1 on verse 10 in the Recovery Version helps us understand why we need to pray this way: “After the rebellion of Satan (Ezek. 28:17; Isa. 14:13-15), the earth fell into his usurping hand. Thus, the will of God could not be done on earth as in heaven. Hence, God created man with the intention of recovering the earth for Himself (Gen. 1:26-28). After the fall of man, Christ came to bring the heavenly rule to earth so that the earth could be recovered for God’s interest, so that the will of God could be done on earth as in heaven. This is why the new King established the kingdom of the heavens with His followers. The kingdom people must pray for this until the earth is fully recovered for God’s will in the coming kingdom age.” In 1 Timothy 2:1-4 the apostle Paul also urged us to pray, saying, “I exhort therefore, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercessions, thanksgivings be made on behalf of all men; on behalf of kings and all who are in high position, that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all godliness and gravity. This is good and acceptable in the sight of our Savior God, Who desires all men to be saved and to come to the full knowledge of the truth.” Note 1 on verse 4 says, “We should pray on behalf of all men (v. 1) because God our Savior desires all men to be saved and know the truth. Our prayer is required for the carrying out of God’s desire.” Today we should pray for God’s need: for His name to be sanctified, His kingdom to come, and His will to be done on earth. We also should pray for mankind’s need: for our relatives, friends, neighbors—all men—to be saved and to come to the full knowledge of the truth. In Matthew 6 we have the Lord’s teaching us to pray for God’s need for His kingdom. In Matthew 28:18-20, we also have the account of the Lord’s appearing to His disciples after His crucifixion and resurrection, commanding them with a particular word: “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and disciple all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you all the days until the consummation of the age.” Here the Lord Jesus commands us to go preach the gospel to everyone, to all the nations. As we do, we go out with the Lord’s authority and with the Lord Himself, who is with us always. Note 2 on verse 19 explains the result of our going to preach the gospel to unbelievers: “This is to make the heathen the kingdom people for the establishing of His kingdom, which is the church, even today, on this earth.” Speaking to people about the Lord Jesus and leading them to receive Him as their Savior is the greatest help we can render to them. By receiving Christ, people can receive the divine life of God to become His kingdom people and be delivered from this Satan-corrupted world. In John 10:10 the Lord Jesus said of the devil, “The thief does not come except to steal and kill and destroy.” Satan began his evil activity on mankind in the garden of Eden, when he deceived and poisoned Adam with sin, bringing in the fall of the entire human race. Since then and up to today, Satan has not ceased to carry out his vicious mission to steal, kill, and destroy the precious humanity God created for His own purpose. Today’s terrible events are evidence of his work. People may not realize that what they’re witnessing are the evil doings of the thief. But they are distressed by the continuing incidents of ever more violence. They can’t help but be anxious and fearful. They despair of there ever being an improvement in the world’s condition. They feel shaken, having nothing solid to stand on or any hope to cling to. They need the gospel of Jesus Christ, to know Him and His salvation. How can we who do know the Lord Jesus withhold from them the good news of the Savior? The Lord Jesus speaks of the devil and his evil activity in John 10:10, but He doesn’t stop speaking there. In contrast to the thief who comes to steal, kill, and destroy, Christ says of Himself: “I have come that they may have life and may have it abundantly.” What a gospel this is! The Lord Jesus is the Almighty God Himself who became a man through incarnation. He came to this dark world and fallen human beings to give us life—eternal, divine life. Because of Jesus’ perfect human living, death, and resurrection, we damaged human beings can have divine life, even abundantly. People see the horrific acts of violence in the world, but they need to see something else—the wonderful Savior of the world. In John 10:11, Jesus says, “I am the good Shepherd; the good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep.” The lost sheep of the world need to know Jesus as the redeeming, life-giving Shepherd. God needs our prayer to bring in His kingdom and His will to the earth. People need our going to them to tell them of the good news of Jesus Christ so they can receive the Savior to have eternal life and become kingdom people. May the Lord increase our prayer for His kingdom and His will, and increase our speaking to others the good news of our Savior, who is the Desire of the nations and the hope of all mankind.
Pastor Dan concludes his series, "Foundations" with a powerful message entitled, "For Yours".
Pastor Josh Guajardo, October 9th 2016 "Therefore, you should pray like this: Our Father in heaven, Your name be honored as holy. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen." -Matthew 6:9-13
This post is part of “The Basics” series, a series all about the basics of being a follower of Jesus Christ. We talked about the word of God (at length) in the last post. Today I want to talk about the other half of the conversation. In “Trusting God” I introduced the idea of an ongoing conversation with God, the goal being a more intimate relationship with our Creator. Now that we know that God speaks through His word, we also need to consider how we can talk to Him. Before I get started, I know this is Prayer 101, so I will not go into prayer too much as a spiritual weapon (that will be for another post), but I do want to say that prayer is the #1 most underrated weapon in our arsenal against ungodly influences. Now back to prayer basics. When People in the Bible Prayed “Return and tell Hezekiah the leader of My people, ‘Thus says the LORD, the God of David your father: “I have heard your prayer, I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you. On the third day you shall go up to the house of the LORD.” –2 Kings 20:5 This is an interesting read in the bible. Hezekiah is sick, really sick. He is dying. Isaiah the prophet comes to him and tells him that God says to put his house in order, because he is going to die. Hezekiah is heartbroken. We don’t know all the details, but for some compelling reason, Hezekiah wants to live longer. So he prays and begs for God to remember how he has served God in truth with a loyal heart. God’s response is that he will add fifteen years to his life and deliver the city from the king of Assyria. All good news, right? But what I want to point out in this scripture (one that is not often quoted in a lesson about prayer 101), is the intimacy that prayer displays and creates. There is no way you can read this verse without recognizing the relationship between God and Hezekiah. It was a relationship that went both ways. You can see that they care about each other. That is the same relationship God desires with you and I. He wants to have this same closeness with us. “But certainly God has heard me; He has attended to the voice of my prayer.” Psalm 66:19 We also see throughout the book of Psalms how close David is to God through his repeatedly mentioned prayer life. David was serious about prayer, and through these prayers and psalms, we can see how this one aspect of David’s life created a friendship with and dependency on his Lord. “For I know that this will turn out for my deliverance through your prayer and the supply of the Spirit in Jesus Christ, according to my earnest expectation and hope that in nothing I shall be ashamed, but with all boldness, as always, so now also Christ will be magnified in my body, whether by life or by death.” –Philippians 1:19-20 The Apostle Paul knew how vital prayer is, and he literally looked at the prayers of others for him as a life line, spiritually speaking. Prayer Modeled by Jesus “But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your Kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:6-13 Why do people always quote this prayer? Why do people pray this prayer over and over? Well, it says right in this chunk of scripture that you shouldn’t pray vain repetitions. So that means if you don’t mean this prayer, don’t pray it. If it has lost all meaning and has just become something you...
