Six lessons I have learned helping others with social media: 1. Time – It takes time to build your social media muscle. There's no substitute for hours on the platform. There's no substitute for being on the platform for many years. 2. Know your audience – Knowing who you want as a follower as well as who follows you. 3. Research works – Investigate the content, channels, posts, time of day that leads to the results you're after. Spend time testing different approaches. Learn where your ideal followers hang out. 4. Research your audience – Make a list of their likes, and dislikes. Get specific. Know these details for each of the accounts you'd like as a follower. 5. Ask – For what you want. Likes. Shares. Follows. Downloads. 6. Copy others – Look at what they are doing. Don't steal their content but reuse their ideas. Video styles. Picture styles. Words. Layouts. Approaches. Hello, Chealsea here With Solutions for senior’s podcast. Before I get started today, I would like to thank Home Helpers of Bourbonnais for sponsoring solutions for seniors podcast. If you or your loved one are in the Kankakee or will county area call home helpers at 815-401-5527 for all your home care needs. You can also visit their website at www.homehelpershomecare.com/kankakeeI’ve been talking a lot how to notice decline in your aging loved ones and how to help manage their care with whoever is in their care team. But this week I want to focus on how we can be the best health care advocate for your aging loved ones. If you have an aging parent, it’s normal to be worried about their health. Moreover, if you recently stepped into the role of the caregiver for an aging loved with a health issue, you’ve also become their health advocate–whether you realize it or not. That’s just as an important role as the caregiver. It’s important to take your role for your aging loved one seriously. Here are 5 ways you can be the best health advocate for your aging loved one. 1. Prepare for Appointments2. Take Notes3. Keep Everyone on the Same Page4. Understand All Options5. Ask For a Full Medication Review AnnuallyThese 5 things can help you be the best advocate you can for your aging loved one. Just talk with your aging loved one and see how they see their care going and what they want. Of course their choices have to be safe for them but as long as they are safe then we need to support them and help make sure that they are getting the care option they want. I hope this episode helps you on your health care advocate journey with your aging loved one. Again, I would like to thank home helpers of Bourbonnais for sponsoring solutions for senior’s podcast. If you or your loved one are in the Kankakee or will county area call home helpers at 815-401-5527 for all your home care needs. Stay safe and well.

Do you know your real value? Have you ever given that question any thought? Do you know what you bring to the table in regards to your clients? Alex Bayer grew up in Southern California in the city of Palos Verdes. After graduating college, he jumped right into the insurance world, knocking on doors across Los Angeles to sell them group insurance coverage. While working long hours and being on the road driving, Alex relied on home-made smoothies to help get him through the day with clean functional ingredients. After leaving insurance, Alex discovered a ‘Genius’ idea from a friend who showed him a smoothie that simply blended coconut water and coconut meat together, and from there Genius was born. The Genius coconut smoothie combines only two base ingredients and in all its simplicity, is extremely clean, healthy, creamy, and filling. No wonder ‘It’s Pure Genius!’ What happens when you know your value? You’re able to bring on better clients and investors; those who aren’t just any client or investor. They’re your ideal client. You have to know your worth so that you can say YES to only the best clients and investors. But how can you show them? Some entrepreneurs focus on creating case studies. After all, a savvy investor wants all the nitty-gritty details will want to have the data, and be able to see that investing in you is a worth it. As a business coach, how can you show that data? Let me tell you my best secret: reviews! I ask for reviews from every single one of my clients, and they know I don’t just want one-line reviews. I ask for video reviews, and ask for them to share just how I have helped them improve their business. After working with me, did they increase their top-line revenue? I want them to share that if they did! Did they onboard new ideal clients? Tell us more! Are they working fewer hours, and making more money, and have increased profitability? That is the kind of data I want them to share in these reviews! I also don’t just get reviews immediately. I follow up months later. I want my future clients to know that I help them achieve lasting results. I want to see them be successful in their business for the long-haul! These reviews are so valuable because potential clients get to hear from others just what I can do for them, and the value that I have to offer. This week’s guest on the Success Unfiltered Podcast is Alex Bayer, creator of Genius Juice! Would you believe that he doesn’t ask for the sale though? Instead, he takes the time to show clients and investors the value that he and his product has to offer, and he has learned how to naturally close many no-pressure sales (including on Shark Tank). Wondering how you can better show clients your value? You won’t want to miss this week’s episode of Success Unfiltered! Enjoy, and thank you for listening and tuning into Success Unfiltered! Your ratings and reviews really help and I read each one. Subscribe to the show on iTunes. Special thanks goes out to Alex Bayer for taking the time to chat with Michelle. Be sure to join us on 4/27/2020 for our next new episode! How Do You Sabotage Your Business Success? By undervaluing your products and services. Selling yourself short. And never understanding your TRUE worth. If you’re tired of stress, resentment, and frustration in your business, stop right here. Grab a copy of my FREE guide, “Owning Your Worth: A Guide To Knowing Your Value And Naming Your Price.” And learn how to KNOW, OWN, and ASK FOR what you are worth. Here are a few key secrets we talked about in this episode: Michelle introduces Alex Bayer. Alex shares how Genius Juice came into existence. When he was first starting, he had an investor who was going to invest $150,000, but this investor eventually said NO! Alex had to choose to look at this with abundance, knowing that his next opportunity would be coming along. Choosing abundance meant that Alex realized that this investor would not be his only potential investor: he had to go connect with others! The right investor was out there. “There's a lot of people out there that could invest, that find value in our product and our brand and believe in me.” ~ Alex Bayer When the investor said NO, Alex got up, and started from scratch, looking for another investor. There are three people you should pitch: family, friends, and fools. Alex does say that anyone who invests in him isn’t a fool, however. “At the end of the day, people invest in people.” ~ Alex Bayer Sometimes your investors will feel like fools, because they don’t know where your business is going. Make sure you educate them! Alex shares that he doesn’t ask for the sale: he focuses on providing value, so the sale happens naturally, and potential investors and clients are more likely to say YES! People like to believe in what you’re doing, and often want to invest in you, but they like not having pressure. Presenting no-pressure opportunities is a key to closing a sale. “Most savvy investors are results driven.” ~ Alex Bayer Make sure that you are prepared to show that you’re not just talking: that you can execute! In order to bring on investors, you have to be able to show them that you can execute. Case studies can show investors what you’re capable of: they can show growth, sales numbers, and the results that show them you are worth saying YES to. If you have a product, and get it into stores, don’t just drop off inventory and come back later to pick up a paycheck. Show value to the store! Do demos, and help bring people in. Be a true partner. Have perseverance when a plan falls through. Sitting and sulking won’t get you anywhere: there is a time and place for sulking, but it won’t move you forward. When a client or investor says NO, that means it wasn’t the right opportunity. Move on, and find the next person. Alex shares what he would tell his younger self. By Pastor Gil Dirmann Scriptures (All NKJV) - 1 John 5:14-15 (NKJV) - “Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.” - Matt 6:7-15 (NKJV) - “And when you pray do not use vain repetitions as the heathen do. For they think that they will be heard for their many words. “Therefore do not be like them. For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. In this manner, therefore, pray:‘Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be your name Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.” And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Message Points We all live in 3 worlds: - PUBLIC - Includes all activity away from home and is the most widely visible. - PERSONAL - Life with family and friends and is the place where you can relax. - PRIVATE/SECRET - This is where your deepest thoughts, feelings, hopes and dreams are born and develop. 1. Recognize Whose You Are and Who God Is! 2. Ask For and Receive The Fullness Of What God Has Provided 3. Invite God’s Presence To Empower You To Live In His Ways

126 | Judi Missett Shares How She Kept Jazzercise in Business for 50 YEARS! Who or what do you listen to when you make business decisions? Judi Missett graduated with a BS in Radio and TV Production and theater from Northwestern University. In 1969, she started teaching a dance fitness class in Chicago. When demand quickly boomed, those classes grew into the dance fitness company that would become a cultural phenomenon. 50 years later, Jazzercise still leads the pack in health and fitness. As CEO, Judi manages a 125-person corporate team, oversees more than 8,200 franchises, choreographs Jazzercise routines, teaches classes and writes for the Huffington Post. Together with Jazzercise instructors, Judi has helped raise over $28M for a wide range of charitable organizations. Among her honors are Lifetime Achievement Awards from the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports; Enterprising Women's Hall of Fame; The President's Award from the Women President's Organization, twice winning San Diego Business Journal's "Women Who Mean Business" Award; and the Commmittee of 200's Entrepreneurial Champion Luminary Award. Are you struggling with knowing your worth in your business? Many people will look down on you. They’ll say you’re not educated enough. That you don’t have what it takes. That you lack experience. Maybe you don’t know the industry. But all of that doesn’t matter when you know your own sense of worth! Your gut, your head, and your heart are what you really need to listen to in business. When you do something wrong, at least one of those is going to hurt! You don’t need a fancy degree, or years of experience (the experience will come as part of your journey!) to be successful. Instead, you need to have that grit and perseverance, and know the value that you have to offer. Be willing to listen to your gut, your head, and your heart, and you’ll be amazed by your journey. This week’s guest on Success Unfiltered, Judi Missett, started a dance revolution with Jazzercise. Combining dance moves and fitness changed the industry: but it didn’t come easy. From starting off teaching in a Parks and Recreation department, to losing a half a million dollars with an infomercial, Judi has business lessons to share! Enjoy, and thank you for listening and tuning into Success Unfiltered! Grab a copy of my FREE guide, “Owning Your Worth: A Guide To Knowing Your Value And Naming Your Price.” And learn how to KNOW, OWN, and ASK FOR what you are worth. Here are a few key secrets we talked about in this episode: Michelle introduces Judi Missett, founder of Jazzercise. Judi has been in business for 50 years: this is hard to do in the fitness and wellness industry or let alone any industry. Before founding Jazzercise, Judi would teach dance fitness classes at the local Parks and Recreation department. She had a contract with them for a percentage of all revenue, but when she went to pick up her check, they said NO! The Parks and Recreation department said that the amount was too high, and they didn’t want to give it to her. Judi stood her ground, and told the Parks and Recreation guy that she would be back later in the day to pick up her check, or she would take action. When she went to pick up her check, the guy wasn’t even there, but he left an envelope with the check. For Judi, that NO was not a real NO, but rather one where she was not given the respect that she had earned. Since that time, Judi has remembered who she is, and what she has to offer, and NO one can take that away from her. When Jazzercise was growing, the team decided to do an infomercial. But it ended badly! Judi said NO to continuing the infomercial, and decided to listen to her gut. “[I learned to] listen to my intuition and to believe in myself when that little voice inside says NO don't do this even if everybody else who has lots of knowledge tells you you need to. If it feels like it's not right that voice inside is the voice of truth and it won't ever lead you astray.” ~ Judi Missett That lesson cost her half a million dollars, but she had carried that truth with her ever since. When it comes to vetting investors or situations like Judi, with the infomercial, you should get to know the core of the company. Jazzercise is about connecting people: the infomercials were about selling product. The two did not go together. When things seem too difficult, it might be a sign that they are not working. How do you know when to pull the plug on your business? Judi says to be watching for signs: there will always be signs and messages for you! “Every step up has required saying NO” ~ Judi Missett Even when Jazzercise had to lay off people, they still kept growing. In fact, many of the employees that they laid off became franchisees. “Once you start to make those changes and move forward, even though it's hard, people trust more and more and more and then the changes aren't as difficult anymore.” ~ Judi Missett Change is hard, but you can find ways to make it a win-win for everyone! Judi shares what she would tell her younger self. Connect with Judi Missett: Jazzercise Website Get Judi’s Book Facebook Instagram Pinterest Twitter YouTube How Do You Sabotage Your Business Success? 038 | Shelby Zitelman Goes From Wharton to Ultimate Sales Success Shelby Zitelman, inspired by her entrepreneurial family, graduated from the Wharton School with a concentration in Entrepreneurial Management, and has applied this degree to all of her jobs since. As the "brains" of Soom Foods Shelby is responsible for developing the Company’s strategy, managing the finances and accounting, managing the team and overseeing contractor relationships. Have you taken the time to determine your passions? Do those passions align with your values? Right after college Shelby went for a job with Accenture, and was turned down! For most people this would be pretty devastating, but she just looked at it as an opportunity to truly discover what she was passionate about, and then created a life around those passions. Shelby has experienced some pretty major NO’s in her career, from losing a contract with a major salad chain restaurant to losing a bid with a major tahini distributor, but NONE of those NO’s have caused her to waver from her true passions in life! If you’re ready to learn how to honor your passions, download this MUST LISTEN episode of Success Unfiltered! Enjoy, thank you for listening and tuning into Success Unfiltered! Here are a few key secrets we talked about in this episode: Michelle introduces Shelby. Shelby shares her story of attending The Wharton Business School. The first NO Shelby received was completely unexpected and threw her for a loop, but allowed her to explore what her real passions were. This NO started Shelby on her entrepreneurial path. Shelby shares how she overcame that NO and how she made her first sale. Soom Foods (Shelby’s company) most devastating NO, led them to bigger and better things. Shelby shares the pitch she and her sisters use when approaching new businesses. “We want to make sure that they're not just buying a product, but that they are buying an experience.” ~ Shelby Zitelman Losing a bid for a company that purchases for 500,000 pounds of tahini was Soom Foods biggest blow that was actually a blessing in disguise, and Shelby shares the whole story. Shelby recommends that when you are new to business and young, you take time to learn from the experts . Shelby shares the story of being able to turn away a large distributor that services a huge part of the country because the values of the two companies didn’t align. Soom Foods was able to turn away some of the biggest East Coast retailers who wanted them to make a tahini dip. They did this so they could just focus on their tahini. Aired Wednesday, 29 November 2017, 8:00 PM ET M. J. Ryan - Attitudes of Gratitude When we take time to stop and reflect, how do we measure our lives? Do we look at the balance between perceived successes and failures in material gain, careers and relationships? Do we take inventory of that which we think makes us happy and that which makes us sad? Is there satisfaction in either way of taking stock, and is there a deeper, more profound practice to open our hearts and find core happiness? My guest this week on Destination Unlimited, M. J. Ryan, says there is and it comes in the practice of gratitude. M. J. is one of the creators of The New York Times bestselling Random Acts of Kindness and the author of The Happiness Makeover, How to Survive Change You Didn’t Ask For, and The Power of Patience among other titles. Altogether, there are 1-3/4 million copies of her books in print. She is a contributing editor to Health.com and Good Housekeeping and has appeared on the Today show, CNN, and hundreds of radio programs. She joins me this week to share her just released new edition of Attitudes of Gratitude: How to Give and Receive Joy Every Day of Your Life.

Hello desk destitute, cubicle cheapened, open space strapped, corner office commendable, home den derelict and coffee shop subjugated. My name is Brock Armstrong and I am… not the Workplace Hero. That’s you! You are the hero here. The goal of this podcast is to make you into a Workplace Hero. I am merely the doorman at this skyscraper of knowledge. After the recent podcast episode about How to Ask For and Get a Raise (which you can find at workplacehero.me/raise) I got some feedback from people looking for more information on how they can really hone in on being the kind of employee who actually deserves and gets a raise. Some of the questions and comments I received reminded me of a few jobs that I have had in the past where I honestly had no idea how I was doing. Or how anyone else was doing. I would show up, do what I thought my job entailed, collect my paycheque and go home. And as un-rocky as that boat was, I would go home at the end of the day oddly unfulfilled. I was never really disappointed in my work but I also was never really proud or excited about it either. The simple existence of the "like" button on Facebook (and all the other social media equivalents) just proves that above many things, as a society we crave feedback. Whether it is from our parents when we are kids, our teachers while we are in school, our friends or our spouses in the "real world" and of course our bosses at work, we desire feedback and in some cases, we even use it as our fuel or motivation to keep moving forward. So what happens when we don't get any? What happens when we work hard, hit all our deadlines, nail our deliverables and still get met with silence? Worse yet, what happens when we know we screwed up or that we totally half-assed a project and we don't get chastised, reprimanded or even asked: "is everything ok?" Well, that is when we need to stand up, gather our courage and march into our boss's office to ask for the feedback we need and likely deserve. But how do we do that? In an article over at FastCompany.com they say that it is not an easy or natural task, asking for someone’s opinion or evaluation of you and your work, but that it is indeed an essential part of career development. And while we can’t promise that it will be painless, with the proper preparation and the right questions, asking for feedback can be a smooth process. Before we get into the best times and the best ways to ask for feedback, I want to direct you to the website weightless.me. That's a program that I am working on with my friend Monica Reinagel (AKA the Nutrition Diva) where we teach you to stop dieting and start weighing less. Which means that we will share the tips, tricks, strategies and techniques that we use to help our personal coaching clients achieve a healthy weight and lifestyle without dieting. Because well, dieting sucks and simply doesn't work (not for long anyway). The program closes on July 7 so head over to weightless.me to find out more now… otherwise, you will have to wait until the new year to get in and start weighing less. Ok. Back to asking for feedback without sounding needy or lame. Let’s start with the best times to ask for feedback. Of course, the number one time would be to ask during your annual review. For those of you who haven't had one before, an annual review is a routine and formal process where your boss will evaluate your progress and contributions over the last year (or quarter, depending on where you work). If your company doesn't have a formal review process, you should ask your boss or HR department to set one up for you. If those opportunities don't present themselves naturally, I think asking for feedback once per quarter is super helpful without being super overwhelming. The next best time to ask would be before an important meeting, presentation, or project. Think of this as an opportunity to be coached or mentored by your boss. After one of these scenarios is also a good time to ask for feedback. It’s a good moment to take a step back, get your manager’s thoughts, and learn from the experience while it’s still fresh in everyone’s mind. And the next best time would be during your day to day. There are usually small moments that occur every day when it's appropriate to ask for feedback, or when your boss will openly give said feedback. This is what we would call "ongoing feedback" and the more often this happens, the more opportunities you have to grow in your career. Plus having this kind of easy interaction with your boss or manager is an indication of a healthy working environment and relationship which has its own rewards. Now, before we get to how you should go about asking for feedback, I thought we should start with an article at Forbes.com called How Not to Ask for Feedback. Here is the scenario: your co-worker asks if you’d be willing to look over his latest presentation, and you’re more than happy to. Only, when you get the email from him, all it says is “Good to go, right?” Boo! A rubber stamp question like that can make you feel worse than if you hadn't been asked in the first place. But, like so many tricky communication issues in the office, this one's much easier to understand when you're on the receiving end. In other words, it's possible your colleague was trying to include you, but because he was rushed, or felt like he'd done a good job already, he phrased his question in a leading way. However, you can see that his communication style (inadvertently or not) makes him come off like he's being a manipulative wiener. You’ve probably been there, too. Have you ever framed an idea for your team by saying “Can’t we all agree that yudda yudda?” This type of phrasing means that any response other than “yes” puts the other person in the position of having to immediately disagree with yudda yudda. And who doesn’t like yudda? On the other hand, if you said a simple “What do you think?” Or better yet, a “How could we improve on this?” you’re asking for active engagement—for criticism, for feedback, for innovation—in a way that shows it will be viewed as constructive, not adversarial. Of course, it may be that you already had made up your mind, and your goal is to get everyone on the same page. You intentionally don’t want to ask a question that solicits a dialogue because you don’t have the time or budget or wherewithal to alter your strategy—but you still want people to buy-in. That’s fine too, but if that’s the case, why not skip the leading question altogether? Instead, ask for what you need by saying something like this, “Ok, we don’t have the budget for any major changes, so I’d just like to know anything jumps out—for better or worse—so we know where to focus for here on out.” Or, in the case where that colleague sent you that presentation, he could’ve said: “I’m due to share this later today, but I’ve read it so many times I don’t even know what I’m looking at. Would you mind doing a quick run through for anything I missed?” That way, he’s being honest about the fact that he’s not open to strategic suggestions, but you know your time’s still valuable. Now that we have that out of the way, let’s talk about how you actually should ask for feedback. When it's time to meet with your boss and review your work, the general question, "How am I doing?" won't get you very far. Mostly because it provokes a simplified, one-word answer and that is not all that helpful for you. Managers enjoy giving balanced feedback, so give them the opportunity to do so. You can ask ‘what are some things that I did well?’ and ‘what are some things I could have done differently or better?’ You can also ask for details and examples. This will ensure that you know what steps to take and how to improve. For example, if you get feedback saying ‘you could be a stronger communicator,’ you can follow up by saying “screw you, who asked you anyway” Heh… or maybe not. You should actually probably follow up by asking for an example of a time you communicated something effectively and perhaps also a time you had room to improve. This will help you put that feedback into action. It’s important to ask both open-ended questions and specific questions, so you can get a true and thorough understanding of your boss’s outlook. Karin Hurt, the author of Overcoming an Imperfect Boss and a former Fortune 15 executive at Verizon Wireless, recommends asking these questions. 1. What specifically can I do to better support our team’s mission? 2. If your boss were to give me one piece of advice what would that be? 3. Who should I be working with more closely? 4. Which parts of my style concern you the most? 5. Specifically, what do I need to work on to be ready for (insert the job or assignment you’re most interested in here)? One other thing, before we get to your homework, that you should consider is who you should be asking for feedback from. You don’t just work with your boss, so it’s important to make sure you’re the feedback you’re seeking out is well rounded. Approach all sorts of people. Speak to your boss, reach out to coworkers, engage with clients, and even try communicating with competitors. If you have contacts in competing companies, casually ask them, what did you think of this strategy? Or what do you think of this product we just launched? They may tell you when you’re onto something worthwhile, or something they envy about your company or projects. There is definitely more than one way to go about getting the feedback you need to become the awesome employee you want to be. Ok - now on to your homework! This week I want you to ask for some feedback from someone whose opinion you truly value. It doesn't have to be a boss or a manager or even someone higher up than you at work. Heck, it doesn't even have to be at work. I just want you to practice setting up, asking for and listening to feedback. Remember what you learned on this podcast episode about asking clear questions that don't elicit one-word answers and certainly don't start the conversation with "I'm doing pretty well in this position, eh?" You want real feedback so ask real questions. After you have done this a few times for practice and to spur improvement, you will be certain to wow them when it's time to hit your boss up for that quarterly review. One last thing. If you ask for feedback and it happens to be negative, don't despair! Constructive criticism is often the only way we learn about our weaknesses—without it, we can't improve. When we're defensive, instead of accepting and gracious, we run the risk of missing out on this important insight. Remember, feedback is not easy to give and it's certainly not easy to receive, but it will help us now and in the long run. Now, go make this week feedback worthy. ** Workplace Hero is researched, written, narrated, and recorded by me Brock Armstrong in Vancouver Canada.
