25 years have passed since I started the journey of raising fatherless kids. Remembering is important to God, and He instructs us in His word to take time to reflect on His goodness. Lori has divided these reflections into five episodes, highlighting God's faithfulness in each one. While some coaches will air live coaching sessions, I can't very well do that, for two different reasons. One, I don't do live spiritual direction sessions, since I focus on written spiritual direction. And two, spiritual direction is often deeply personal, and many women would hesitate to air that in front of an audience. But I still want to help you get a glimpse of what written spiritual direction can look like. It's not meant to hurt, it's meant to reveal. - Is there anything shameful happening in Pride events? Sex in public? S&M? Sex in front of children? Public masturbation and urination? The New Year is a natural opportunity for us to look at the spiritual practices and habits we want to cultivate in our lives, especially when it comes to caring for those who are hurting or when we are walking through a difficult season ourselves. Her service and devotion to God and St. Joseph was almost eclipsed by her friend Father John J. Crowley, also known as the Padre of the Desert, a larger-than-life servant of the Catholic Church. We are told to put on the armor of God, and put on the garment of praise, but those are intentional choices we make to do what God has told us to do to fight our battles. A key to having a good day is not just to be in the word, but to saturate your life with God's word, actually believe what you are reading, and apply it to your everyday life. We are told that in this world we will experience trials. In order to have a good day despite the trials, we must take a pre-emptive approach and do what we can ahead of time to help foster a good day. When we have a cluttered environment, we also then tend to have a cluttered mind and a cluttered heart. By taking the time to clear your area of clutter the night before, you can awaken in a state of peace, and the clutter and chaos around you won't distract you from your quiet time with God. Think about the fact that the Creator of the Universe wants to spend time communicating with you personally. Are you going to deprive Him of that? Episode Summary: What we focus on grows and impacts the quality of our day for better or for worse. We'll talk about the neurological reason why this happens! Some of my favorite episodes on other podcasts are when coaches let you listen into a live session. You can hear them as they are talking with someone about an issue or problem that they want to figure out. And I knew that this was something that I would love to incorporate on my own podcast as a spiritual director. What better way to give you a taste of what it's like than to let you listen in to a session? But I ran into two problems. The first problem is that a spiritual direction session is a lot more personal and vulnerable than a coaching session often is. Because it deals with matters of the heart and soul. Places where we are struggling. Questions and desires we are bringing before God. Who would possibly be willing to have their spiritual direction session aired publicly for all to hear? The second problem is that I offer written spiritual direction. So there really isn't a live session that I could just hit record on, even if I could find someone willing to share. What I've come up with is this: a sample written spiritual direction session that I have crafted based on very real problems and how I might respond in spiritual direction. For this, I have written both parts as a way to let you peek into what written spiritual direction might look like, realizing, of course, that personalities and writing styles come out with each person seeking direction. Some people write shorter emails, some longer. It really just depends. God commands us to come to Him with thanksgiving, but what difference does it make? I'm here to tell you, it changes everything. In this episode, we'll talk about why they're important how the positive impact they have on your well-being and stress level. Gratitude is a thankful appreciation for what one receives—tangible or intangible—as they acknowledge the goodness in their lives. Remember that being grateful is about appreciating what one has, as opposed to what one wants. Being thankful or thanking someone often implies you are acknowledging your thanks for something that someone has given you. Gratitude helps make us happier, builds positivity, fosters sleep and relaxation, helps increase productivity. It leads to a less self-centered and materialistic life. Gratitude also improves our health and mental health, and helps improve relationships. A grateful person experiences a higher level of positive thoughts like love, happiness, and lower stress level. Episode Summary: In today's episode, we are talking about how God's promises to his people help us have a good day. There are very few things we can depend on in this world, but we can depend on God to keep His promises, and because of that, we can have a good day despite our circumstances. Quotables from the episode: People change their mind, and they break their promises, but God is not a man and he cannot lie, so he cannot break his promises. A promise is of no more value than is the ability of the one who makes it to carry through. It also includes willingness to do so. There are over 1000 promises from God to his people. God supplies every need we have and His grace is sufficient for us. God promised his children won't be overtaken by temptation. God promised victory over death and that all things work together for good. He promised love and forgiveness for those who believe in Jesus.
