Following the success of our collaboration with Tricolore Theatre Company and the Catholic Association of Performing Arts, we are pleased to bring listeners more dramatised stories from local writers and performers. Tune in to hear the stories live on the radio! Podcasts of the programmes will be updated after the initial broadcasts. JONAH THE DOG IN THE BOAT by BRIDIE STRINGERBroadcast: Tuesday 7th May 2024, 3:30pm About the Writer: Following careers in telecommunications and NHS management, I undertook academic postgraduate studies in pastoral theology and was awarded a doctorate in 2010. I then became a university lecturer in reflective practice courses for those working in chaplaincies, and also for candidates in formation programmes for the ordained ministry of permanent deacon. I have actively participated in parish, deanery and diocesan pastoral councils over many years and been a catechist for children, young people and adults. I find creative writing helpful in pastoral ministry as it frees people to engage imaginatively with faith rather than burdening them with doctrine and orthodoxy which they might find difficult to engage with. Finally, I am a wife, mother of two loving daughters and grandmother of two amazing grandsons. In short, I am a good example of St John Henry Newman's saying: ‘To live is to change and to be perfect is to have changed often.' Perfection still eludes me!  Readers: JONATHAN COOTE, KENNETH MICHAELS, NADIA OSTACCHINI About the Readers: JONATHAN COOTEAn actor for many years on stage, screen and radio, Jonathan's favourite roles have included Cyrano in Cyrano de Bergerac, Bosola in The Duchess of Malfi and Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird. The current show is 'John's Tale', telling the story of St. John's Gospel through the eyes of those who met Jesus in a light-hearted, accessible style. A Golden Pen – Mark Sias pt 3 https://amzn.to/3B0uD0S ()Mark Sias is a licensed nurse practitioner who was, to put it bluntly, working himself to death. But, one day, all of the changed.  He and his wife, Grace, authored a book titled, https://amzn.to/3B0uD0S (“A Golden Pen”) and is sharing his concepts with others. Mark is here today to share with us some of these concepts (of entrepreneurism), some great and very affordable ideas that could help you generate additional income and to share all about his book, https://amzn.to/3B0uD0S (“A Golden Pen.”) Amen! Mark & Grace Sias own and operate a small legal services & signing services business in Port Orange, Florida called https://legaldocprepnotary.com/ (Noble Notary & Legal Document Preparers). But it's not just about becoming a Notary Public. You just have to hear what Mark is about to share. This is the conclusion of a great three part interview that will bless YOU with some ideas to generate some additional income! Another area that you are in was especially interesting to me. As a retired police officer, I'm well acquainted with how to roll finger prints. That is an area that you seem really enthusiastic about in your book, https://amzn.to/3B0uD0S (“A Golden Pen.”) What kind of demand is there for “finger printing” in our society today? I really loved the live scan machine we used. It was so much better than the ink pad and cards. If you messed up on the last finger with the card, you had to start all over again. But with the Live Scan, it tells you if it is wrong and you simply reset and reroll.  In your book you mention they make portable machines now. Is that what you use? You also help folks prepare some legal documents. I always thought you had to hire a lawyer to do these things. But you provide information in your book about, “The Scrivener Exception.” What is that and how does it apply? I've had to use a mediator and an arbitrator before. Many, many years ago in a class action suit that I was part of. You also reference this in your book, https://amzn.to/3B0uD0S (“A Golden Pen.”) I was surprised in that you reference that these are not “lawyers” doing the mediation. That just about anyone can do the training and become a mediator? Is that right? I know your book, https://amzn.to/3B0uD0S (“A Golden Pen,”) has more examples in it, but I want us to get to this next part. Coaching.  That is something just about anyone can do because everyone is good at “something.” It may be anything from baking pies to quilting or golf to – becoming a notary, praise God. But the thing is, there are people out there that need help in many, many areas and they are willing to pay for the help. Am I right? There is another business I want to ask you about, “Apostille Services?”  I had never heard that term before. Can you explain what that is and why there is such a demand for these services? Mark, this has been so interesting. I could go on and on, but we are about out of time.  Your book, https://amzn.to/3B0uD0S (“A Golden Pen,”)how can someone obtain a copy of this great book? Is it on Amazon? If someone wanted to get in touch with you, to ask a question, check out your coaching program or maybe just to do an interview such as this. How can they do that? How can they get in touch with you? I'll put links to all of this down in the shown notes. Folks, as I started this program, it is so important that you are not 100% dependent on your employer to take care of you. That is called slavery. The Bible says we are to work. Yes. But it is also very, very important, to learn how to help meet the needs of others and take care of yourself and your family and help to “Get the Word Out” into all the earth at the same time. For many people, they have discovered the world of entrepreneurship. Being your own boss. Amen. I urge you to get in touch with Mark Sias today. Drop down into the show notes and reach out to Mark. What is a “Key Stone Habit” and can you share a couple of examples? What are the usual startup costs for someone interested in the Notary Business? You also help people with credit repair issues, correct?  Does this involve your notary service or is this one of those “additional income streams” we discussed a few minutes ago? How hard is it for someone to get involved in credit repair? We've heard about “credit repair scams” and things like that. How do those differ from you are helping people to do and training people to do? Mark, I'm so blessed that you are here today to share some of your success concepts with our listeners today. First question I always start with is this. Other than that brief information I just shared, can you tell us in your own words, “Who is Mark Sias?” So, let's start at the beginning. You were getting burned out working in the medical field and wanted something different. How did you decide upon a “notary business?” You have a quote that I've used often from J. Paul Getty, would you care to share it? “I'd rather have 1% of a hundred people, than 100% of one person.” As you began this business with your wife, were you really only going to focus on notary work or were there already other spin off businesses in mind? You, obviously advocate for multiple streams of income. Can  you explain for us some of the benefits of having these multiple streams of income? In your book, you make a point of saying you do not subscribe to the “Law of Attraction,” but firmly believe in the “Law of Sowing and Reaping.”  How important has your Faith been in helping you to start your own business? In your book, https://amzn.to/3B0uD0S (“A Golden Pen,”) you outline a “few basic, baby steps…” Can you share those baby steps with us? What is a “Key Stone Habit” and can you share a couple of examples? Folks, as I started this program, it is so important that you are not 100% dependent on your employer to take care of you. That is called slavery. I urge you to get in touch with Mark Sias today. Drop down into the show notes and reach out to Mark. Ask you questions. Check out his website. But you absolutely need to check out his book, https://amzn.to/3B0uD0S (“A Golden Pen.”) It contains a lot of ideas that can you implement relatively easy and affordably that could, I emphasize, COULD, because it depends on how active you are in promoting your services… they COULD make you financially self-sufficient. “Psychopomps” by Judith Field (Originally published in The Colored Lens, Summer 2014.) Mark’s next door neighbour and business partner Pat kept telling him that power flowed through his veins. He took a breath and closed his eyes, trying to will the power back out again and into the ash wand in his outstretched hand. He pointed it at Pat’s door. A narrow beam of blue light squeezed out of the end and hit the lock. Nothing happened. Sighing, he folded the wand and put it in his pocket. He took out his key and let himself into her house. He heard her moving around in the kitchen, back from sorting out the invasion of reptilian arsonists in a garden in Llandudno the day before, while he had expelled a banshee from a pub in Macclesfield. This morning’s job was to sort out an elderly-care home with a spirit infestation. Mark opened the kitchen door. Pat coughed, wafting her hand at a cloud of green fumes. ‘Damn, they’re still moving,’ she said. Judith Field lives in London. She’s a pharmacist and medical indexer and editor. The daughter of writers, she learned how to agonize over fiction submissions at her mother’s (and father’s) knee. In 2009, she made a New Year resolution to start writing and get published within the year. Pretty soon she realized how unrealistic that was but, in fact, it worked because she got a slot to write a weekly column in a local paper shortly before the end of the year. It ran for a several years and she still writes occasional feature articles for the paper. Her non-fiction articles have appeared in genealogy and general interest magazines. Her fiction, mainly speculative, has appeared in a variety of publications in the USA, UK, and Australia. She speaks five languages and can say, “Please publish this story” in all of them. When not writing she works at the day job, studies for a Masters in English, sings, and swims. She is Science Fiction Editor at Red Sun Magazine. You can find her work here. "“Princess Lily's Wedding” by Robert J. Santa (Originally published in Blood, Blade & Thruster.) "I love him, Daddy!" King Frederick breathed deeply. It had been a very long conversation with his youngest child, punctuated by much pouting and exasperated sighing and stomping of pretty feet. Frederick stood over her while she held her face in her hands and cried. He wanted to do nothing more than pout and sigh and stomp his feet. Of course, he couldn't, even in his daughter's bedroom with no one else to see. Kings had to uphold higher standards, especially with sixteen year-old daughters. Robert J. Santa has been writing speculative fiction for more than thirty years. His works have appeared in numerous online and print markets. Robert lives in Rhode Island, USA, with his beautiful wife and two, equally beautiful daughters, one of whom is named Lily. And while she is nothing like the Lily of this tale, she could be without stretching the imagination too much. “Shoe Man” by Tonya Liburd (Originally published in Expanded Horizons, July 2016.) Somewhere in downtown Toronto, a homeless black man had shoes whose soles were flapping. He refused to give them up, no matter what people said, no matter what people offered. They were the first things he ever bought in Canada, the shoes he wore to his wedding, so long ago. The wedding that was supposed to mark the beginning of a new life, a good life in Canada. A good life… they were pretty young, he had a wife, he had a daughter, he had a job… then the illness reared its head and took over. And everything spiraled out of control. No medications would make his mind whole again; the fear and confusion from his wife, the fights. The guilt over his daughter witnessing it all. When his wife died instantly from the car accident while he got barely a scratch – fortunately their daughter wasn’t with them – it was the last thing he could take, and he remembered just everything conspiring to force him out the door and leave everything behind. Well, almost. He still had his shoes. That was years ago. Tonya Liburd shares a birthday with Simeon Daniel and Ray Bradbury, which may tell you a little something about her; and while she has an enviable collection of vintage dust bunnies to her credit, her passions are music (someday!) and of course, words. Her poetry has been nominated for the Rhysling award, and her fiction has been long-listed in the 2015 Carter V. Cooper (Vanderbilt)/Exile Short Fiction Competition. Her story “The Ace of Knives” is in the anthology Postscripts to Darkness 6, and is used in Nisi Shawl’s workshops as an example of "code switching". She is the associate editor of Abyss & Apex magazine. You can find her blogging at spiderlilly.com or on Twitter as @somesillywowzer, and support her over at Patreon.com/TonyaLiburd. Stephen Richards     Today we continue our Opportunity Series from Richard Branson's Top 10 Quotes on Opportunity. This quote is by Stephen Richards, an author known as The Golden Pen. To dream by night is to escape your life. To dream by day is to make it happen." - Stephen Richards [bctt tweet="To dream by night is to escape your life. To dream by day is to make it happen. -- Stephen Richards"] Stephen Richards is a believer in the power of the subconscious mind and a qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist. He and I share that education and experience. I trained as and was qualified as a Clinical Hypnotherapist as well. I use a lot of the training I had in hypnotherapy and working with the subconscious mind to develop the 9 Steps To Successful Goal Achievement as well as using the Mental Bank program training to develop the Goal Getting, Don't Just Set'em Get'em Course that I share on the Goal Getting Podcast. We know that when we sleep and dream we are able to escape our life. Our dreams as we sleep are ways for our mind to vent the experiences of the day. It's a way to escape our life. But, as Stephen Richards says, when we dream by day, we can make it happen.  It depends on what your dreams are. But the key thing I believe that he is saying in this quote is that we make our dreams happen by day because we do the actions necessary to achieve the dreams. We don't just escape, but we take action and take advantage of the opportunities to make the dreams happen. Start the day, making your dreams happen! Take action, seize the opportunities.   I get a lot of my quotes from great books that I read.
