Outlander star Sam Heughan and his co-star, Jessica De Gouw, from The Couple Next Door join Reshma Gopaldas on Son of a Binge to talk all about their new show, plus Outlander. The season 7 finale of Outlander, 'A Hundred Thousand Angels,' co-starring Caitríona Balfe, aired on Starz Friday, January 17 and left fans of the show on a huge cliffhanger. Heughan and De Gouw talk all about what it was like filming with Eleanor Tomlinson and Alfred Enoch, who play the couple that moves in next door to their characters, Danny and Becka. Heughan and De Gouw reveal what it was like shooting together and how the cast basically fell in love with each other. Heughan also talks about the evolution of love scenes from when he first started on Outlander a decade ago where he and Caitríona Balfe had to navigate sex scenes without an intimacy coordinator. Thanks to the Outlander intimacy coordinator, Vanessa Coffey, his experience on The Couple Next Door was quite different.View the video version here: Sam Heughan & Jessica De Gouw Video InterviewSon of a Binge production credits:Hosted by: Reshma Gopaldas (TW: @reshingbull, IG @reshmago)Producer: Emily Collins (IG @emilem124)Artwork by: Laura Valencia (IG @iamlauravalencia)Music by: Kevin Calaba (IG @airlandsmusic)Send us a text, let us know what shows and guests you want us to cover.
Sam Heughan is a Scottish actor, producer, New York Times best-selling author, and entrepreneur. He is best known for his starring role as Jamie Fraser in the Starz drama series Outlander. Heughan stopped by to discuss his latest book, co-written with Graham McTavish, called Clanlands in New Zealand: Kilts, Kiwis, and an Adventure Down Under. Sam is always down to have fun as we discussed the book, breaking down various sections and hearing stories. We laughed a lot, had time for him to read a section of the book, and participated in a new photobooth segment, which was hilarious. As I mentioned in the interview, Sam has remained among the loveliest, most grounded actors since his television debut. He is a great friend, and I appreciate him taking the time to come on. Sam, if you are reading this, I plan on taking you up on that dinner soon! Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Shamindri De Sayrah Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: Buckle up, grab a dram, and get ready for another unforgettable wild ride. They're back! Sam Heughan, OUTLANDER's Jamie Fraser, recounts his journey across the 96 miles of Scotland's West Highland Way. Host Jo Reed and AudioFile's Robin Whitten discuss how Heughan completely charms listeners with his engaging style and enthusiasm. The story of his journey becomes a metaphor for Heughan's life as an actor in his atmospheric and absorbing memoir. The inclusion of live recordings made during Heughan's hike, complete with the sounds of strong wind and heavy rain, are a lovely addition. A great audiobook for fans of OUTLANDER, armchair travelers, or anyone looking for an adventurous listen. Read the full review of the audiobook on AudioFile's website. Published by Hachette Audio. Graham McTavish (best known for Dougal McKenzie from Outlander) sat down with us to discuss his latest role on the HBO/HBO Max hit House of Dragon. McTavish talks about THAT important scene where he lays down his sword and the repercussions of walking away. We talk about his amazing career, advice for those interested in the industry, when we can expect to see Men in Kilts's latest season hit the airwaves, and what it will be like putting on that Scottish wardrobe for Outlander once again. McTavish also answered fans burning questions, including if he will be on House of Dragons next season if we can expect a book coming from him soon, and what Sam Heughan should prepare for when they are reunited on set -- McTavish said pranks are to be had, and Heughan should be on alert at all times. Host: Monica Gleberman Editor: Polina Jdanova Social Media Graphic: Jojo -- Synopsis: Fire & Blood, the series is set about 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, 172 years before the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, a descendant of the eponymous royal house, and 100 years after the Seven Kingdoms are united by the Targaryen Conquest. Featuring an ensemble cast, the show portrays the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to and covering the Targaryen civil war of succession, known as the "Dance of the Dragons." *House of Dragon Season one is available to stream on HBO Max. In Florida, a video shows police arresting 19 people accused of committing voter fraud. A 2018 state constitutional amendment restored the right to vote to many felons, but not those convicted of murder or felony sex offenses, leading to confusion over who was eligible. Neil Volz, deputy director of the Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, joins us. Then, human-made threats are responsible for the decline of nearly half of bird species. One in eight species is threatened with extinction, according to a new report, and birds tell us a lot about the state of the environment and the health of the planet. Stuart Butchart, a chief scientist at BirdLife International and a co-author of the report, joins us. And, Sam Heughan may not be too similar to his "Outlander" character Jamie Fraser, but he has a tale of his own journey to tell. The actor documents his hike of Scotland's West Highland Way while reflecting on his personal life and acting career. "Waypoints: My Scottish Journey" comes out on Oct. 25 and Heughan joins us.

Hey y'all, This week, Julie took a nap and Janine did some space stuff while Allison and special guest Jenna Pulkowski talked book shit for Outlander's fifth season. Should go without saying, but do not listen to this episode if you have not read the books and want to remain unspoiled! Please join us for our season five dice-rollin' awards-givin' wrap-up spectacular, live on Sunday 5/24 at 1 p.m. CST. This event is open to all listeners, not just patrons, so feel free to "bring" a friend (or a "friend," no judgments.) Link here: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/live-s5-party Last, a brief CONTENT WARNING: there's a brief discussion of sexual abuse and sexual violence from roughly 42:30 to 44:10. Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and Janine (and Jenna!)
Hey y'all, Woof, here we go. Early in the episode, you'll hear Allison talk about a safe jump-ahead point for anyone who might want to avoid our discussion of the sexual violence in "Never My Love." You can listen safely until the five-minute mark and then skip ahead if you want to avoid all prolonged discussion of the first half of the episode. If you jump to 33:50, you'll hit the section where we talk about the dissociative episodes (the "Never My Love" stuff); if you jump to 49:52, you'll skip to the battle in the woods and Claire's recovery. Any mentions past that point are fleeting, though we do discuss her recovery at length. You should also stop reading these show-notes now, we love you, you look super nice today, love that top, your hair is so shiny, you're doing great, we'll see you next week. For the rest of you: There's a lengthy discussion in this episode about the show's history of sexual violence, and we wanted to mention that our list is depressingly and distressingly incomplete. The fact that it's difficult to remember every instance of sexual violence in this show is, frankly, bonkers. But we forgot Fergus in season two. We forgot Weeian in season three. We forgot Jamie in season three (biting or no biting, Geneva Dunsaney extorts sex from Jamie, so that's another one.) And sadly, we're pretty sure there are others. That's messed up. Our feelings about that are really complicated, so just know that if yours are too, you're not alone—and whether or not these stories are well-handled is a separate issue from when, why, and how often they're addressed. Anyway, however you feel about it, your feelings are valid. Anyway, your hair is also shiny and your shirt is also super cute and you are wonderful just in general, we love you, and we'll be back next week for some season-overview chat. And here's the Brian Dennehy song we referenced: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oqrtoFWglMY&feature=youtu.be. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Today, we can’t stop watching Sam Heughan on the Starz original series “Outlander.” Heughan opens up about scenes from the finale of Season 5, how he ended up doing a Highland fling on set and the pineapple upside-down cake he made as part of a virtual baking challenge with his castmates.
Hey y'all, This week friend of the show Ruth "I wrote a fuckin' amazing limerick about Murtagh in five minutes" McCormack joins Allison and Janine to talk about the Hot Pess episode to end all Hot Pess episodes (Hot Pessisodes?), Diana Gabaldon's "Journeycake." Come for the bad time traveling, stay for the SPERRRRRMS. Patreon friends — Look for another inthebooooooks on Crowdcast later this week. Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and Janine (and Ruth!)
Hey y'all, This is a bit of a weird one—some audio issues, some cat issues, some "Allison can't stop harping about book stuff" issues—but we think you'll like it as much as some folks like second breakfast. Also, Patreon backers can look for an intheboooooooks Crowdcast - exact time TBD but it'll be Saturday. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Hey y'all, We feel compelled to warn you that Julie had a weird fan thing going on with her computer (overheating, or maybe too much friction) so the audio got a little out of hand. But that doesn't matter, because we wrapped our fingers around the opportunities throbbing through this episode and gently squeezed. Enjoy. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Hey y'all, We had some technical difficulties and thus ran short on time but still managed to have a lot to say about the return of John Bell and his sick new threads, Richard Rankin's astounding performance, and whether or not it's a good idea to assume your audience is stupid. (Spoiler: it's not!) Maybe you liked it, maybe you didn't, but there's no denying that "Famous Last Words" is ambitious in a way few episodes of this series have been, and that is an undeniable Good Thing. So here are our very mixed thoughts about it. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Hey y'all, Back in February, when the world was, ah, super different, we headed to our favorite local bar, The Oasis, for a ridiculous live show. (For context, it was the week after the premiere.) We won't spoil it for you but suffice it to say it was quite an adventure and we had a blast. Thanks to everyone who came out, and especially thanks to Michelle and the lovely people of The Oasis, who are always the best whether we've got microphones with us or not. (And they are not responsible for the obnoxious ringing sound you hear from time to time, that's on us—sorry about that.) To that end, if you've got a couple extra bucks and have ever had a pint from the O, you can support its terrific staff here. We'll be back to talking about what's actually happening in the show next week. For now, stay safe, pour yourself a nice drink, and enjoy. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Hey y'all, DO NOT READ THIS UNTIL YOU HAVE WATCHED SEASON FIVE, EPISODE SEVEN. This lengthy episode of the pod speaks for itself. We had a lot to say about the show's best outing in years—and in fact, we're going to say more! On Friday night, we'll be doing a virtual happy hour (SERIOUSLY STOP READING IF YOU HAVEN'T WATCHED)... but really it's a Digital Wake to make up for the real-life wake we promised y'all but which we can't do yet. We still will! Just not until the world is in a better place. For now, join us Friday evening (4/3) here: https://www.crowdcast.io/e/drunkcast-happy-hour. 7 pm CST. BYOB. We'll bring some of you up on the call so if you want to do that, make sure you've got lots of light and your favorite earrings or a wig or appropriate funeral attire, whatever you want. Or just come as you are. We love you. Let's pour one out for the Pamplemousse. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Hey y'all, Construction on the apartment directly above Allison's forced her to bail on this episode (though she'll do an #intheboooooooks on CrowdCast), so Julie and Janine were joined by friend of the show Amelia Buzzell! They talked about plagiarism, fuckbois, and hot ghosts. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, and Janine (and Amelia!)
Hey y'all, Hello from the very strange present moment. We love you! Here's an episode we recorded in three separate apartments all within five blocks of each other. It worked out okay. We'd say more but we figure with all the voiceover in this episode you're kind of over hearing/reading lengthy explanations about stuff you already know. In summation: KITTY! Anyway, here's "Wonderwall." Be safe, and be good to yourselves. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Greetings ferns, This week Julie is joined by a very special guest host, our dear pal and friend of the show Jenna Pulkowski! Both Allison and Janine were out this week, but the band will be back together soon. For now, Julie and Jenna proudly present... The Chronicles of FLMF. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Hey y'all, Well, that one was a doozy, no? This was the first episode in quite awhile where Janine didn't see any of it at all, and we were very prepared for some earnest "oh, shit" action. Needless to say, it happened. Come for the Beardsley weirdness (Beardsley weirdsleys?) and stay for an, ah, emphatic response to that John Quincy Myers appearance. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Hey y'all, This week we were joined by our favorite twins, Keenan and Scottie, for a rousing discussion of a good episode with a bad title. You'll hear us reference the live show a few times (it was so fun, thanks to those who came!) which we'll post down the line, but for now content yourselves with this enthusiastic cake-fueled chat (and one little bonus minisode for Patreon subscribers, the first in a series we're calling "Janine's Corner: The Janine Experience"). Lots of love, Allison, Julie and Janine
Hey y'all, We're back! And so is the show! And so are you! Hurrah! And you know what's not back? THE BANGS! Cocktails (and pamplemousse LaCroix) in hand, the drunks got together to watch and discuss an hour with a wedding, a boning montage, some very pretty but questionable woodwork, and wigs of varying degrees of crunchiness. Do we have quibbles? Yes. Are we so, so glad our special program is back? Yes. Do we make that clear by talking for TWO AND A HALF HOURS? Yes. Want to hear more about all of the above? Com join us at our live show on Saturday (check our Facebook page!) And by the way, it was Pusha T, not T-Pain. Actor Sam Heughan sat down with HFPA journalist Elisabeth Sereda to talk about his role on Outlander, and the familiarity he found with the character he plays, Scottish Highland soldier Jamie Fraser. They also talk about his difficulty riding horses, the community he's found through his inception of My Peak Challenge, rumors that he would play James Bond, the utility of kilts, and more.
Sam Heughan may have been destined to act, just ask any of the "Outlander" fans among his massive social media following. In this episode, Heughan shares when he knew acting was what he wanted to do and how it's changed his life. Hey y'all - Here it is, our unintentional part two, our realization that we needed a part two, and a long, long conversation about man-in-bear-suit. The photo above will be addressed. We've got an Anyway, Patty coming for you this weekend, too! Last thing: Will you be at C2E2? If so, give us a shout—Allison will be there for work and would love to say hi. Lots of love, Julie, Allison, Janine, Kevin, and Neal
Hey y'all, Without further adieu, Dudelander. It's a doozy. (Dudezy? We're workshopping it.) Okay, a little further adieu. We were going to keep this at one episode, but you know how things go. Look for part two next week. And in the meantime, please let us know what you want from your Droughtlander season! Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and an absent Janine
Featuring a Shyamalan-level twist concerning one of the longest-running jokes on the Drunkcast. We love y'all, enjoy! Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and Janine
Hey y'all, Greetings from the other side of our last (mostly) sober 'cast, for now anyway. We assume you're eager to hear our thoughts on a certain development, so the preamble ends here. Well, actually, it ends after this: Please join us this Saturday (2/2) at The Oasis (6809 N Sheridan Road, Chicago) at 12 p.m. for our annual season wrap-up live show. It's our special bar and we can't wait to share its divey pleasures with you. Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and Janine
Hey y'all, Give or take one Adagio for Strings, this one was a winner—particularly when one biscuit-loving Scot was on screen. Yes, Roger. You can have all the biscuits, ye ehjdiot. We also rhapsodize about the costumes, go on several extremely slap-happy tangents, and announce our season wrap-up LIVE SHOW, at the Oasis (6809 N Sheridan Rd) in Chicago. Show starts at noon. It is, alas, 21+, unless you're a tiny baby brought in by an adult parent. We're really excited about this. The O is our Cheers. Lots of love, Three ehjdiots (Julie, Allison, and Janine)
Hey y'all, Hope hope hope hopey hope hope hope, hope hope bird bunny bee hope hope credits deer hope. Hope hope hope Coinface hope, Tom Bombadil hope hope hopety hope. Hope. Hope-y birthday, Julie! Hope hope hope, Julie, Allison, and Janine
Hey y'all, We sat ourselves down, did some nice, refreshing face masks, and watched the fine folks of Outlander lay the groundwork for the rest of the season. Our skin is supple, and our minds were sharp. Why sharp? Because this is Podlander Sobercast: an Outlander Podcast. Fear not, we'll be back on the sauce soon, but this is the only episode we've ever done for which all three of us were stone-cold sober. Oh my god, what if we weren't funny? Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and Janine
But what about the bunnies, we ask? What about the bunnies? We had a lot of fun with this one, y'all, but we must warn you that Allison made cocktails without measuring. Because a) they were delicious and b) they were secretly strong but whoops no measuring, she got us all pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty drunk. So, it's sloppy, is what we're saying. Listen on for our thoughts on the week's clear winner of the Platinum Pamplemousse, some chat about poor old Roger and certain narrative misunderstandings, the parts of last week's episode that we missed, and more. Happy New Year! Y'all are the best, and we couldn't do it without you. Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and Janine PS - We die in a fire?!
Hey y'all, We tried, we really did, to get you a full episode before the holidays. As you will hear in the following 27 minutes, our efforts were in vain. We'll be doing an xtreme xtra xlong xpisode next week, encompassing about half of "Wilmington" and all of whatever comes next, but for now, here are your favorite drunks, trying and failing to record from three different locations, one of which is roller coaster adjacent. Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and Janine
Hey gang, It's the last 'cast we're recording in the same space before the holiday break, so we dug into a box of the wonderful Kate Kulzick's Christmas cookies and enjoyed the hell out of ourselves. Listen on for our thoughts on Sophie Skelton's evolving American accent, the return of a certain expert jactor, and looooads of #intheboooooks. We'll be back next week! Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and Janine
Coinface returns! What else do you want? Allison and Julie, sadly sans Janine once more, love love love them some Coinface. Sure, there are some mixed feelings about the outerwear choices of Master Willie Leechington-Bangs, and we both groaned out load at a certain line of dialogue, but David Berry and Duncan Lacroix had a scene together, so how much can we really complain? Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and Janine
Some good stuff here, in our humble opinion! Solid #intheboooooks talk, a lovely little side tangent about how some dudes just can't put the fuckin' toilet paper on the holder, a part where the batteries on the recorder die and we have to stop and buy new ones, lots of Sofie, you get the idea. But yeah yeah who cares because.... [REDACTED]! We don't want to spoil it for you, but we are very excited about a certain head of silver hair (seriously, it's a great wig) and the fabulous acting happening on and around that head. And the rest of the episode? Pretty great, too. Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and Janine
Welcome to the Totally Normal Podcast Episode 82. This week we're covering Hangoutlander 404- Outlander Season 4, episode 4, Common Ground! This week SPOILER ALERT- we enjoyed the episode. Sure, we had complaints, but we had things we loved too, We EVEN HAD NICE THINGS TO SAY ABOUT BRIANNA! And of course talk about the Outlander drama- it wouldn’t be Outlander without drama. This week it's the Native actor who happens to be a wife beater. GET READY FOR NEXT WEEK. A few of us have already watched Savages and it is sooooo good. We can’t want to talk! Find all our Outlander coverage over at: http://thats-normal.com/outlander
Okay, y'all. Have fun. Bonus: Listen for when Sofie has a nightmare while we're recording and Julie has to go wake her up. It was distressing, but not as distressing as some other things. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Outlander Season 4 Review! The Droughtlander is over! We've missed the lads and lasses of our beloved Outlander and we're ready to dish! Starring Sam Heughan as Jamie Fraser and Caitriona Balfe as Claire Fraser ( the ultimate heroine). Join us as we review the first episode of season 4, make predictions. Find out why we keep coming back: Is it the sex, the violence or the sweeping tale of true love across time? As always, thanks so much for listening to Front Row Divas!
Happy Thanksgiving, nerds! Listen on for our thoughts on Roger's heel turn, Sophie Skelton's much-improved accent, Claire's thing for skulls, the footwear choices of ghosts, and loads of in-the-boooooooks. Have a great holiday, we'll be back with the next episode (already in the can!) before you know it.
Fill your mugs and drink deep, friends, because this is a rough one. Julie and Allison were on their own this week, but even without Janine's gentle guidance/reminders to stay on task, we'd have had some trouble. That was an upsetting hour with a few great performances and one blessed, very silly skunk attack. Not sure what else to say, really. If we end up talking out of our asses, please call us on it—especially if you're a POC. Allison's on Twitter, Julie's on Facebook, and you can reach us both here. Lots of love, Julie, Allison, and Janine
NOTE: Now the correct audio file. Thanks to everyone who let us know about the error! It's back! This is a bit of an odd episode, because we did the last bit at Rogers Park Social, where we watched the premiere live with a bunch of you (Hi all! Thanks for coming.) But in many respects, it's business as usual. Nicknames. Swearing. A very good dog. (That part's new.) We've got a backlog of episodes to release—life got crazy, in good ways and bad, for all of us—so please forgive us if all of a sudden we're talking about stuff that happened in June. This, though, is in very good time. Our new release schedule, if that's your bag, is as follows: Patreon - Monday Everywhere else - Wednesday Bonus/Backlog - Kinda random times? More to come soon! Love, Julie, Allison, and Janine

In March, we played a weird game. It happened to be in a room full of people at one of the best conventions in the world. This is what happened. Enjoy. Love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
So this is an odd one, friends. The first half: us tracking down and reacting to the teaser for the fourth season of Outlander. The second half: a "spoiler section" that quickly devolves into a conversation about DNA and then about tampons. You can skip ahead to 28:30 if you don't want to hear spoilers (well, there are still some very mild ones) but do want to hear us jaw for half an hour. Important note: this was recorded before news broke that the Golden State Killer may have been identified thanks to DNA/Ancestry websites. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
It's here! It's Dudelander! For those new to the fun and games, our seasonal Dudelander episodes feature Neal (Julie's husband) and Kevin (Allison's arch-enemy who is actually just her friend), two gentlemen who watch Outlander with varying degrees of enthusiasm. Usually, they're pleasantly surprised by some things and not by others; this time around, we're all pretty frustrated so the vibe is different. They're funny, and we got them wasted, and also we recorded this on NEW YEARS EVE, so don't be confused when we start singing Auld Lang Syne. Working through this backlog. We love you. Kisses and Cherry Bounce, Allison, Julie, and Janine
For this episode, we were live. We did it live. Live at Empirical Brewery, we gave out our traditional end of season awards, and we did so live and in person. Live. It was in December. We're catching up on the backlog, we promise. So... happy holidays? We also got to see so many of you! It was wonderful. We especially want to thank Megan and Tori, who brought waffles as per tradition, the wonderful Wisconsin contingent — and in particular Chantel, who brought us hats she knitted which are so warm and comfy, everyone who brought friends with them, and Jennlander Drunklynn, who came in from California (for reasons besides us, but still). It made us so happy and we were so touched. Here we go! Love to you all. Lots of smooches, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Hey y'all, We got busy in weird, stressful ways, but we're back! We promise. Contained herein you'll find information about our live show at C2E2 this weekend, our thoughts on Tobias Menzies' new gig, where the hell we've been since December, some jokes about our collapsing emotional states, and all kinds of other stuff. We'll be back NEXT WEEK with new episodes and we promise not to disappear again. Lots of love, Allison, Julie and Janine
We did not like when. You've been warned. Seriously, we know a lot of you listen to the show because we're enthusiastic, but enthusiasm isn't always warranted. Don't worry, there are still plenty of positives — we love Coinface always forever — but we were not super pleased with this one. If you're looking for a warm, fuzzy finale lovefest, join us Sunday LIVE at Empirical Brewery in Chicago! Thanks to all of you for your support. Means the world, honestly. Lots of love and quite a few Hamilton references, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Hey, please read this note. Julie and I (Allison) screwed up. This is a funny episode, we think — god, we hope so — and we had not one but TWO amazing guests, and we got to talk about Lotte Verbeek a lot, so, win. But we were vaguely dissatisfied with the show's handling of slavery, and talked about it as such, wrapped the episode, and went home happy. Then we woke up the next morning, thought about it some more, and realized that yeah, we screwed up. The thing about white privilege is that it's based on the idea that white people are always centered in the narrative, and you can be "woke" and still be totally ignorant of the constant, insidious ways that society and culture sideline people of color in favor of whiteness, even in stories about people of color. So we sat our white asses down, accepted that somehow this story was about how Claire felt about buying a slave, thought for about five minutes afterward, and totally failed you all — both of us as people failed, and I in particular as a critic failed. And so I'll say quickly here what we ignorantly and damagingly didn't say then: Outlander failed, too, and they failed hard. No modifications to this episode, no additions. Just two white women who think they've got it figured out proving how far they have to go. We're sorry. If you're a person of color, we're especially sorry. If you have any thoughts you want to share — about the show, about our handling of it, about anything – please send them to podlanderdrunkcast@gmail.com, or reach out on Twitter, or whatever you like. If you want to come on the show, we'll shut our foolish mouths and let you speak. And if we lose you here, well, we can't blame you. So here it is, and a special thanks to guests Ruth McCormack and Catie Kirschner, as well as to Helena, who came to visit us just beforehand, and to Molly Mullen, who provided some truly delicious Colorado beers. And last, here are some great pieces of writing from women who didn't totally fuck this one up: Kayla Kumari Upadhyaya at The AV Club Jonita Davis at Black Girl Nerds Kayti Burke at Den of Geeks If you know of others, please share them below. We'll update this post and share on Twitter. And this post is and will remain public. So, um.... enjoy the episode? Love, Allison, Julie, and Janine (and Catie and Ruth!)
Welcome to the Totally Normal Podcast Episode 59 Hangoutlander 313. THE END. That is not the name of the last Outlander episode of the season, but I'm calling it THE END anyway. We did it! We survived 13 episodes back to back (with one week break) of Outlander! We survived Season 3 and leaving Scotland! We survived multiple attempts of unnecessary Rape! We survived Claire and Jamie being CONSTANTLY torn apart! We survived, we did it! Our team was full this week to discuss the last episode of the season. We get into Outlander DRAMA (like conservative fans telling actors who don't care to stay out of politics), what we REALLY thought of the episode (feelings we were mixed or as Bekah said "I was watching it....") and our hopes and dreams for Season 4. Just because Outlander is done for the season does NOT mean we're going anywhere. Next week we're back with Boozy Book Club (Monday 12/18 at 10 pm ET) and we' have a lot of Outlander coverage and posts planned over on Thats-normal.com to get us through Droughtlander. Thank you for listening this season! We loved your comments, your thoughts, even when you disagreed, and we'll be BACK with more Outlander sooN! See you on the web! (and next week on the podcast again...!)
Hi gang! We recorded a little late this week, but friend of the show Jen Moniz filled in for Allison and is brilliant, so there's an upside! Listen on for an unexpected impression and for Julie not firing Allison, because she's a bigger person than that. Lots of love, Allison, Julie, Janine - and Jen!
Special guest Kate Kulzick (The Televerse) joins us to talk about ship lingo, splat sounds, actual violinists, and poor dead Albie, who gets a solid nickname after many drafts. We aimed for 60 minutes, so naturally it's two hours long. Happy Thanksgiving from Allison, Julie, and Janine, who are very sorry that you had to deal with Jamie being such a dick this week. Like the show? Leave us a review on iTunes! It really does help. Lots of love, Your Drunks
If we sound tired it's because we just finished a great convo with Bekah, Heidi and Julie as we discussed this week's episode of Outlander: The Doldrums. To be honest, it was not the most exciting episode for us, but somehow we stretched our convo into an hour and had an amazing chat happening online with those listening live on Twitter using the hashtag #Hangoutlander and from the HILARIOUS You Tube Commenters! From confusion to the setting of where the port was, to feeling a bit icky about Fergus and Marsali, the convo was all over the place. Plus @Purelyamuse on Twitter gave us our mantra that we're adopting for the Show: Let's Willoughby the Hell out of the Rape Culture on Outlander Thanks for listening! We love your hate AND love comments! Catch all our Hangoutlander coverage at Hangoutlander.com and join us LIVE every Monday night during the season at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PST on You Tube. Find the schedule at links here.
So this episode is kind of... the doldrums, no? Still, there's plenty to get excited about, including a killer performance from Gary Young as Yi Tien Cho, some world-class eye-rolling from Marsali, and a rash of Kebbie Lebbie-related humor. Oh, and one other thing: it's our 50th episode! Stay tuned for more this week, specifically for Patreon subscribers. Like the show? Leave us a review on iTunes! It really does help. Love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
We sing The Association, make do without Janine (we promise it sounds good even though Janine was on the lam this week and also he edited it so it's OK), and sing the praises of our very special guest, Keenan. Oh, and we spend a lot of time talking about that little Jamie-lookin' motherfucker (who is very good and probably an extremely nice young lady.) If you like Keenan here, just wait — there's a bonus episode with her coming out later in the week for Patreon supporters at the $5 level and up. For everyone else, it'll be out after the Outlander season ends. Like the show? Leave us a review on iTunes! It really does help.
Sorry, sorry, we meant #StartingAgain. We had mixed feelings on this one (more mixed since that glorious glow of Hot Fergus faded) but had a hell of a lot of fun talking about it. We also, by complete coincidence, were drinking the most perfect beer in the history of beers for this one. As always, thanks so much for your support, for listening, and for sending us such wonderful GIFs on Twitter—and a special shoutout to you, Daphne the Starz intern. Lots of love, Allison, Julie and Janine
This week on the Totally Normal Podcast #54, we're bringing you something totally different. Just Kidding. It's exactly the same as always, and we're talking OUTLANDER episode 307: Cream of Mint. It's a delicious milk-based soup with a minty tinge. No it's not. But it IS a great place to hide a body! Our crew this week was small but loud-- Beth, Bekah and Emily chatted with EVERYONE on the internet as we discussed how most of us did NOT love this episode. Come out Outlander- bring us the Jamie and Claire we love! Join us next Monday LIVE at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PST as we count down yet another week of Outlander without turtle soup (That episode airs Nov 26) Catch all our Hangoutlander coverage at Hangoutlander.com and join us LIVE every Monday night during the season at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PST on You Tube. Find the schedule at links here. Thanks for listening!
Thanks for joining us for The Totally Normal Podcast Episode 53. We are diving STRAIGHT into a discussion of the most highly anticipated episode of Outlander Season 3: A. Malcolm i.e. The Print Shop Episode! Since this episode aired, it has sparked a BONFIRE of controversy in the fandom. It's almost like fans forgot those sex scenes from Season 1 played on a tv at KFC! We still have SO many thoughts about this episode, and we're glad you're here with us to discuss it. Catch all our Hangoutlander coverage at Hangoutlander.com and join us LIVE every Monday night during the season at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PST on You Tube. Find the schedule at links here. If you join us live, you might win some Outlander SWAG! Thanks for listening!
Well, our livestream had more than a few technical difficulties, and we got Janine hammered, and maybe Cherry Bounce was a bad idea... but Lord, you gave us a rare episode, and we loved it well. Listen on for our thoughts on Young Ian, Hot Fergus, and Blessedly Inoffensive Mr. Willoughby, as well as our sheer joy at once again experiencing the full Cornish Game Hen. Other highlights: Allison forgot about a major book thing! Janine talks about loneliness! We all hit our elbows on the table a bunch! Love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
Oh, my dears. We answered a bunch of questions you had, and mostly told the truth. We drank a lot, as you would expect. We (Allison) forgot to include Dr. Rawlings' journals in the list of book stories she wants to see. We all forgot to keep our elbows off the table and as a result this is a *loud* episode. Regardless, we had fun shooting the shit with our special guest Jen Moniz, and hopefully this'll tide you over until Sunday. ON THAT NOTE: We are working on a setup that will allow us to livestream our viewing (with Janine!) of this week's exxxxxtra long episode. Keep your eyes peeled. He's gonna blush so much. Love, Allison, Julie, and Janine
During The Totally Normal Podcast 51 we talk BRI and actually find a few things about this episode we LOVE (LAST TEN MINUTES, LAST TEN MINUTES!) Check out our conversation with Bekah, Nikki, Julie and Heidi who did our Outlander Recap on Thats-Normal.com this week! Reminder that there is no new Outlander episode THIS WEEK, so we'll be back with Hangoutlander Monday 10/23 at 10 pm ET/ 7 pm PST on you Tube. Find the schedule at links here. Join us Monday night October 16th (unlike the date Bekah says in the intro) for BOOZY BOOK CLUB! We'll be Live on You Tube at 10 ET / 7 PST.
You're not even really reading this, because OH MY GOD PRINT SHOP AND OH MY GOD HUMAN TURTLENECK. Just in case you are reading this, we—obviously—loved this one, particularly those last perfect minutes. We also love Joe (more Joe, please) and Wee Roger and are encouraged to see Miss Sophie, erm, improving. And that accent's better! But come on, this is all about that ending. Trust me, that's mostly what we talk about. Well, that and the glassware, because JFC, that is some great glassware. Other notes: If you've got questions you want answered or topics you want covered, next week we're doing a grab bag episode! Hit us up here, or on Twitter, or wherever. We love ya, ye ken-- Allison, Julie, and Janine
The Totally Normal Podcast Episode 50 is here! We made it to 50 Episodes! This podcast covers Hangoutlander, Outlander Episode 304: Of Lost Things. Our panel included Nikki, Beth, Tiff and Amy, and we discuss how this episode might possibly be the BEST episode yet in season 3 and it’s definitely in contention to be one of our favorite Outlander episodes EVER. We discuss the adaptation from book to film and we thank Starz for changing that problematic scene with Geneva and Jamie! Plus we discuss about how Willy looks NOTHING like Jamie- the awesome Isobel and well... some of the less great moments. And we get real REAL about our Outlander expectations! Thanks for listening! Catch all our Hangoutlander coverage at Hangoutlander.com and join us LIVE every Monday night during the season at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PST on You Tube. Find the schedule at links here.
We had mixed feelings about this episode, though our feelings about Coinface are pure and true. We also go on a verra long tangent or two, finally figure out Janine's catchphrase (thanks, Kathryn!), and figure out which Bennett sister Isobel is. Thanks for listening — and if you've got a moment, please leave us a review! It really does help. We made it through this whole description without mentioning Geneva. You're welcome.
We are verra bereft. Allison and Julie had mixed feelings about this episode, and not just because we're now going to have to live without the world's best jactor (that's jaw-actor, for those new to the fun and games). But we take some solace in the incredibly promising new cast member on the scene, and in the fact that Sam was *great* this week. But most importantly... PAMPLEMOUSSE LIVES.
We're talking Episode 2 of Season 3 of Outlander! Join our team from Thats-Normal.com as we discuss the good bad and the ugly. Catch all our Hangoutlander coverage at Hangoutlander.com and join us LIVE every Monday night during the season at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PST on You Tube. Find the schedule at links here.
Welcome to the Totally Normal Podcast Episode #47 Hangoutlander 301— we are back with the First live recap episode of Outlander Season 3. We have to be honest- we recorded this almost 2 weeks ago and have completed FAILED at getting this podcast up in time. We are so sorry! But back when we recorded this, Bekah and Nikki were together on one couch in LA and joined on camera with Beth and Julie- the gang was back together again! It was like we were just sitting on one of our beds at Comic Con, albeit less drunk on Bud Light than one of us was back in July. Spoiler: That was Bekah. This chat is probably the most love you’ll ever hear us give Outlander— on Hangoutlander anyway! Speaking of Outlander love- our website http://Thats-Normal.com is killing it with Outlander coverage lately, especially as we’ve been rolling out Nikki’s videos and coverage from her set visit last Fall of Outlander in Scotland. Yes— in case you missed that… We got to visit the Outlander set in Scotland! Catch all our Hangoutlander coverage at Hangoutlander.com and join us LIVE every Monday night during Outlander Season 3 at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PST on You Tube. Find the schedule at links here.
The Outlander Droughtlander (ugh) is finally over, which means Allison, Julie, and Janine are all going to experience liver failure. Make sure to pop on over to Twitter (@podlandercast) and vote in our very very important poll. Viva Les Frasers and Outlander Season 3!
The third season of Outlander marches on with some questionable follicular choices and one extremely cute baby. Most importantly, we bid farewell to Credits Deer, that ungrateful bastard.
We look at the past two seasons of the show and discuss our favorite looks for both seasons. We also discuss some of the motivations behind the designs by the ever talented Terry Dresbach. Enjoy! Be sure to follow us on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/outlandersassenachpage And on Tumblr at http://outlandersassenach.tumblr.com
We discuss our favorite and least favorite parts of the books, show and what we are looking forward to most in Season Three, answering the questions put forth by Outlander Series on Tumblr in an Outlander themed Questionaire.
This week, we discuss one of the long standing feuds within the Outlander fandom. The Super Shippers versus the Anti-Shippers as concerning Sam Heugh and Caitriona Balfe. Feel Free to join into the conversation by contacting us: www.facebook.com/outlandersassenachpage outlandersassenach.tumblr.com or contact us via email at outlandersassenach@gmail.com
We discuss Emmy announcements this week and try to discern why in the world Outlander was not chosen for any nominations. Even GRR Martin agrees, WE WERE ROBBED!
It's the #Hangoutlander Season finale! We were so excited to come together this past Monday night to discuss the finale of season 2 of Outlander, partly because it's exhausting to talk about Outlander week after week with only one break, but also because.. it was the finale! There was so much to discuss and that we did! There were some varied opinions on our team which included Bekah, Nikki, Beth and Julie from That's Normal, plus Kyle from Hypable.com AND a very special guest and TN reader, Joanna. We definitely disagreed on some of the ways the finale fell short and on things we liked, but overall we thought it was a decent finale that was missing some key elements that, to be honest, were probably missing all along this season. Namely Jamie and Claire! We watch the show because we fell in love with their love while reading the books. And overall we just feel that the show has been lacking. Beth wrote an incredible post this week that you should check out that talks about Putting down the book and looking at the TV show for what it is: http://thats-normal.com/2016/07/putting-book-outlander-season-2/ Just because Outlander is over does NOT mean that the Totally Normal Podcast is over or that Hangoutlander is over!. Stay tuned as we bring you more podcasts (live from comic con anyone?) and we'll be back with Hangoutlander during the break between now and season 3- we have a lot to talk about preparing for Voyager. Sign up for our emails to be alerted when we talk about Outlander: http://bit.ly/TNemails Thank you so much for listening and participating with Hangoutlander this season!
We discuss Outlander Season 2's Finale and discuss things that have happened during the week
We take a look back at Season 2 before the finale airs on July 9th to talk about our favorite characters, moments, and some things we actually didn't like all that much. Enjoy!
Hey there! In this episode of the Totally normal Podcast, we discuss the penultimate episode of Season 2 of Outlander: Hail Mary. We were joined by some of our absolutely favorites in the fandom- the ladies from My Outlander Purgatory and Andee who blogs for TV after Dark. We had a really great conversation about negativity within our perception of the show (as of late) and in reviews from the fandom. We also discussed Roger and Bree and what they are going to be doing in the finale. And we talked about Jamie and Claire and their lack-there-of a connection this season. Plus we made predictions for the finale and a little bit of season 3. We hope you enjoy the chat! Watch us instead Join us July 11th at 10 pm ET for the FINAL Hangoutlander for Season! RSVP here: http://bit.ly/hangoutlander213

It's a really great conversation about shipping, proper fan behavior and expectations and we could have talked about this for MUCH longer! We are joined once again by Laura from Hypable.com Want to watch us instead: DO THAT HERE Join us same time, on June 20th at 10 pm EST as we talk about the next episode Vengeance is Mine : bit.ly/hangoutlander211
We opened this episode trying to say "Je Suis Prest." And we failed. One thing was clear- none of us speak French! We had a great convo this week though it was a smaller than normal crew from That’s normal. We talked about #HatGate- the name we’ve lovingly given our confusion surrounding a recent picture of Sam Heughan wearing what looks to be a photo-shopped cowboy hat. Then, of course we talked about the episode which was Beth’s favorite of the series. We had some differing opinions on the PTSD edition that we don’t see in the books, and we ended the convo with a real quick chat about how Outlander is going to take over our Sunday nights from this moment forward since they announced both season 3 AND 4 would be made! Plus this week we gave away a copy of the Outlander Kitchen cook book to a lucky LIVE viewer! Watch us Live Join us next week on the 13th at 10 pm EST as we discuss episode 210: bit.ly/hangoutlander210 Hope you enjoy the conversation!
Don't miss this awesome convo with our team from Thats-Normal.com plus Kyle from Hypable.com (a NON book reader) Kyle is always a good time! Wanna watch us instead? Join us next week for Hangoutlander 209: bit.ly/hangoutlander209 at 10 pm EST on June 6th
If you love Outlander, if you love Caitriona Balfe and if you hate really bad fake beards, then this is definitely the episode for you. This live hangoutlander was all about the best season 2 episode to date, entitled Faith. We were joined by the always hilarious and gracious and awesome ladies from My Outlander Purgatory, Carol and Tracey. Aaaaaand we all pretty much loved the heck out of this episode. Emotional gut punches and an amazing performances, and that one really awful scene we could have all done without. Also too bad about that beard, Jamie. Don/t forget to join us next week on TUESDAY night - not Monday - Tuesday May 31st - at 10:00pmEST (because of the holiday - stupid holidays!!!) so mark you calendars special this week because this is THE super contentious shark jumping episode. Welcome to Episode 17 of the Totally Normal Podcast: Holiday Hangoutander: Outlander is coming to town That’s right, though we don’t have any new Outlander to talk about until April (Oh yeah- it looks like Yahoo confirmed it IS actually going to air in April this week), we thought we’d get together with the ol’ gang to discuss what’s been happening in the fandom, the new teaser trailer that recently dropped and…. well, who needs an excuse to get drunk on the internet and talk about Sam Heughan? NO ONE NEEDS AN EXCUSE. This conversation was all over the place. From our theories on Roger and Bree, to Outlander Holiday gifts- which BY THE WAY, there are some good options, including our very on That’s Normal store so we added that to the show notes, and FINALLY at the very end, our thoughts on the Teaser Trailer, this is an Outlander conversation you don’t want to miss. Speaking of stuff you don’t want to miss, our next Hangout is December the 22nd AFTER the crew has seen Star Wars The Force awakens. Our last Star Wars chat was our most popular Hangout and podcast YET (sorry Outlander!) so we’re excited to talk about Star Wars again with you guys! We hope you enjoy this conversation and, oh yeah, you definitely need to stop on over to That’s Normal to check out our thoughts on the casting of Roger! Want to Watch us instead?
