The fantastic Jen Saarbach and Kristen Kelly from “The Wall Street Skinny” podcast join me today for a candid and super fun crossover episode on the challenges women face breaking into and growing their careers in the male-dominated industries of Tech and Finance.Jen and Kristen tell us how they started “The Wall Street Skinny” to democratize access to the world of high finance via their incredible podcast and lighthearted but value-packed social media posts. Turns out there's more to the industry than we see in the movie The Wolf of Wall Street with Leo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie! Who knew?!We all shared some of our career horror stories, including Jen's (which she turned into a hilarious viral video) about how being a few minutes late to an interview can completely derail your shot at a big job. They also share that Wall Street is actually accessible to…English majors?! But it's not just the hurdles of getting your foot in the door. Once you're in, we all face ageism (either levied against the young or the old, depending on the industry - we'll reveal what we mean here!) and sexism through microaggressions, lack of mentorship opportunities, and assumptions. We dive into these realities and highlight the importance of age diversity in both industries. We also discuss AI's double-edged sword—its potential to both automate away jobs and also revolutionize fields like gene editing. So whether you're well-established in your career or just getting started, our chat has you covered. Did I mention we had a lot of fun? Join us for our wide-ranging but impactful conversation."We have structured society so differently than it was historically so that you aren't hitting the same milestones. You aren't necessarily graduating from college at 22, going to business school at 25, getting married at 30, having kids by 35, retiring at 65. Those milestones have all shifted and are no longer fixed points." - Jen SaarbachIn This Episode:-Challenges and opportunities for women in finance-Ageism in the tech industry-Women representation and role models in finance and tech-The challenges of starting a career in the finance industry-The apprenticeship model in finance and its impact on career paths-Challenges of entering finance later in life-The importance of age diversity in finance and tech-The role of venture capitalists in guiding founders-The impact of AI on career pathsAnd much more!Learn Finance From The Wall Street Skinny:-Website: https://www.thewallstreetskinny.com/-Podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-wall-street-skinny/id1680425507 -Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thewallstreetskinny/ -TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@thewallstreetskinny Connect with Jen Saarbach:-Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/jennifersaarbach/ -LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jennifer-saarbach-realtor Connect with Kristen Kelly:-LinkedIn:

After that is MacDonald (30:01), who discusses the world of comics marketing, how the current state of social media and comic sites is affecting things, the unseen work of marketing, fitting within the distribution system, its impact, and more. And to close is Igle (1:02:15), who talks about the overwhelming fear of the unknown in comics, where and how it manifests, how it impacts things, the path forward, and more.

February 15, 2010 - This week's Don't Miss book is the landmark 50th issue of Supergirl. One of the great things about comics can be the long history and deep continuity that characters develop. But that same continuity can also stand as a roadblock to new readers. Supergirl has been one of those characters in the past, but now Sterling Gates and Jamal Igle have turned the cousin of everyone's favorite Kryptonian into an accessible, interesting and ultimately entertaining character in the DC landscape. Gates and Igle join Chris Neseman for a conversation about the challenges and rewards of working on the Supergirl title. Listen in to hear about the "relay race" of the New Krypton event, Helen Slator and Jake Black's back-up story, and a great behind the scenes story about the Michael Turner cover for the 50th issue.

On this edition of The Word balloon podcast, a conversatio with thecreative team on Supergirl, Sterling Gates and Jamal Igle. They discussSupergirl, from the recent reveal that Lucy Lane is the new Superwoman,to the death of Zor-El, and the fallout from New Krypton. There'splenty of chracter dissections of Lana Lang, Allura Cat Grant and KaraZor-El herself, and their views on where all these strong women fit, inthis corner of the DC Superverse. Some quotes from the conversation...On Lucy Lane/Superwoman's role as Kara's new enemy. Gates: "I wanted a villain that can act as a Lex Luthor type...when New Krypton wastold to me, I thought it was a master stroke on Geoff (Johns)  andJames(Robinson's) part having General Lane be the main bad guy...whatgreat drama you get having Lois'sfamily be against the Superman family?...There's some more crazy stuff coming up with Superwoman."On the character designs for the leading women in the series.. Igle: When It comes to Supergirl the very first conversation I had with MattIdelson He said, 'I don't want to see Supergirl's panties again,' and Iagreed ...I think there should be a coy sexiness about her but I don'tthink it should be as overt as it's been drawn...it just didn't fit myimage of what a teenaged Supergirl is supposed to be...she's Superman'scousin, and should be, even by default, sort of a role model to younggirls..."(ForLana's Asian influenced outfits) My wife Corrine works in the fashionindustry for a company that does a lot of photo touch ups for Vouge,Cosmo, Louis Viton... so I get to see all these fashionmaterials... I was thinking more in terms of something a littleeclectic but business like...with Cat, it's all Victoria Secret andFredrick's of Holywood...the sluttiest dresses I can find (laughs)."Gates: "I guess that means write more Cat Grant scenes."On The Death of Zor El Gates: "Going in, Geoff and Ja
