Iwata was a very open book compared to the relatively secret and mysterious Nintendo that we have come to know. Iwata Asks was a series of interviews that featured openness between the President of Nintendo and key creators and developers behind some of Nintendo’s biggest franchises. These are all still available online if you search Iwata Asks. Hundreds of interviews are translated in English ranging from topics on the Game and Watch, Wii, WiiU, DS and 3DS. If are a fan of Nintendo and their history then these are a nice deep dive into the other side of Nintendo that fans don’t rarely see. A big question you may ask before buying this book is if the milk is free then why buy the cow?

更多文稿请参见今天微信头条内容~采访对象:Richard Lai, Editor-in-chief of Engadget Chinese, and Senior Editor of Engadget based in Hong Kong.流行科技網誌與播客Engadget 中文版總編輯.采访的主持人是Brian Kopczynski. 采访问题:1)Unlike many top managers in corporations, Iwata started his career as a practitioner, actually creating games. He also remained a gamer at heart, and brought a more fun spirit than seen elsewhere in the industry, with his “Iwata Asks” interviews and “Nintendo Direct” press conferences. How did these aspects of his career affect his leadership and management? 2)He was the first person outside the founding family to lead the gaming giant and successor to a man who professed to not understand video games. He had the bold vision to bring Nintendo to new forms of gaming, like the wildly popular Wii and Nintendo DS. How have these new modes of play changed the meaning of and how video games are played?--- He also focused on bringing video games to a wider audience, as opposed to focusing on improving graphics technical specifications like competitors. How successful have he and Nintendo been with this, both in terms of the success of this drive itself and commercially?---In light of that, has this creativity and innovation help lead to some of the more popular modes of play on smartphones and thus undercut Nintendo's market-share to some extent? 3) Satoru's career spanned from creating games like Kirby to turning the fortunes of Nintendo around. What would you say his biggest legacy is?---How have his creations – both in terms of games and the hardware - affected the video gaming world, and beyond? 4)For many years, Iwata and Nintendo were not interested in making games for non-Nintendo hardware, placing great value on the quality control and on bringing gamers to the whole ecosystem. They finally changed their minds this spring, announcing a new partnership with a mobile game company. How will Nintendo's entrance into smartphone/mobile gaming affect the industry/market?---Do you think we will mostly see Nintendo's traditional style of games, or will there also be more of the quick and casual type popular with smartphone users? 5)Gaming legend Shigeru Miyamoto and manager Genyo Takeda will be temporarily taking over leadership for the company, so it remains in good hands. Any guesses on who might become the next permanent CEO, and what the future looks like for Nintendo? Will it conform to trends across the industry or will we see it continue to innovate?
