This week, we share our final thoughts on Nintendo World Championship: NES Edition, discussing its release, the weekly challenges, and whether it's a game we'll continue to play or let collect dust. We also dive into NES Remix 1 & 2 for the Wii U, a series that was surely an influence; but does it still hold up? Press B To Cancel now on YouTube!
Nintendo is a company that is sometimes too in love with it's own history. But sometimes, that love bears beautiful results. This creative lil nugget functions as a reader's digest version of some of the best games on the NES, as well as a fun meta toy, where elements are mixed and matched. Underrated gem!
Ever wonder what it would be like to play DONKEY KONG as Link? Or battle the tree in KIRBY'S ADVENTURE while being attacked by Boos? Then this re-re-remix is for you! NES REMIX PACK combines two downloadable games, NES REMIX 1 and 2, into one easily digestible package, with bite-sized challenges from dozens of original NES titles, including special cross-over levels combining two or more games in new and weird ways. The game is like a mainline rush of classic NES nostalgia, but does it hold up to our keen scrutiny? It's finally time to sit down and talk about Final Fantasy VIII. Unquestionably, the most divisive game in the history of this stupid podcast. A vocal majority of you hate this game, and an even more vocal minority defend it like their lives depend on it. I had never played it, but then it won our Patreon poll, and I put a good 40 hours into seeing what all the hubbub is about. And I have a LOT to say. My pal Andre is one of those Final Fantasy VIII defenders, and he gave me a call last week to chat about Squall and friends. And chat we did. The 'game talk' portion of this week's show clocked in around ninety minutes, and we went over all the stuff we liked, and all the stuff we hated about this game. And trust me, there's plenty of both. And of course, before we talk Final Fantasy, it's the Remember The Game Infamous Intro! This week, I get into stuff like whether someone should buy a Switch now, or wait for a potential 'Pro' iteration. I pick my four character dream team of Final Fantasy characters, and decide which Final Fantasy villain they'll go up against. Why the hell has Nintendo not brought back the NES Remix series?? And more! Plus, we have another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One'. This time, it's the PSOne Final Fantasy' edition, featuring Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, and Final Fantasy IX! If you want to skip to something specific, here's where to go: 0:00 - Intro 2:15 - Initial self-indulgent rambling & 'Expansion Pass #47: Best/Worst Controllers' Clip 9:05 - 'Blowing In The Cartridge' (Listener comments & questions) 25:10 - 'Play One. Remake One. Erase One.' 36:10 - What have I been playing? 38:10 - Listener's 'Final Fantasy VIII' Memories 42:05 + Final Fantasy Talk! Enjoy the podcast!

I can't believe it's been this long, but also I can totally believe it's been this long with the way the last year has gone for myself and the gang. While doing this I had to sit back and really remember how to compile and do all the work for an episode, that is truly sad. Anyway, thank you for listening to this and I hope you enjoy it, this episode has been lying around my drive for quite sometime so I figured I should finish it up and throwing something out there to just remind people that we aren't dead. Music in this episode: Street Fighter V, Shadow Warrior, NES Remix 2, Pepsi Man, Kirby: Star Allies, Darkest Dungeon, Path of Exile, Celeste, Doom (2016), Battle of Olympus, World of Final Fantasy and more! Welcome to the penultimate podcast of 2017! We've managed to make it through this hell year and we figured we'd wrap up our normal game club episodes in style by talking about two of our favorite games and one game that makes us look back on games of yore and how we feel about them as people who still engage with them in 2017.Look forward to further adventures of the Abnormal Mapping crew in 2018, and come back in two weeks for our GotY spectacular music spectacular. Legends tell of a man, a quiet man, a man who jumps and a man who spins, a man who one day—this day—must rise and save us all. But that man was not available, and so it falls upon this paper plumber to embark upon a journey to the stars to save a princess oft and once more kidnapped. The Mappers embark upon this man’s journey through a twisted land of pun-laden characters and self-aware deconstruction, and arrive finally at the end of their quest with only the corpses of penguins to show for it*.(*No penguins were harmed in the making of this podcast.)As a companion piece to this episode, Em produced an zine for Paper Mario, featuring cool and cute paintings and sketches of the characters and the world of this month’s game! It's the original power couple back with the (mostly) original crew! On this edition of "Hacks'n'Slash", Paul Franzen, Michael Gray, Diana Gray, Christian Porter, Alex Jedraszczak, and Joseph Martin revisit Luigi and Daisy on a vacation to Delfino Island and a mysterious mansion. Listen to your favorite voices and some twisty turns of events like Luigi going Super Saiyan and everyone doing their best Delightful Children from Down the Lane impression (hey, if Paul gets to make an obscure reference, then so do I). Today we're reading two separate pieces: Luigi and Daisy's Unhappy Vacation and Luigi and Daisy's Unhappy Vacation 2, which are centered around Super Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion respectively. This podcast features music from the following sources: - Super Mario Sunshine - Luigi's Mansion - Super Mario Galaxy - Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - NES Remix 2 - Hey Dude
The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild (21:47). 02:59:03 - Afsluiting Muziek: - Zelda Ocarina of Time (N64) intro - NES Remix 2 (Wii U) - Super Bomberman 2 (SNES) - F Zero (SNES) - Super Smash Bros Brawl (Wii) - Turtles in Time (SNES) - Outrun (C64) - Bubble Bobble (C64) - Commando (C64) - Burnout Revenge (Xbox 360) - Mighty Switch Force (3DS) - Metroid Prime 2 Echoes (GameCube) - Nier Automata (PS4) - Dragon Saber (Arcade) - Joy Mecha Fight (NES) outtro
You've met with a terrible fate, haven't you? This week Kyle, Matthew and Natalie celebrate Varch/Garch/Smarch by welcoming back Aldrin Cornejo ("Aldrintendo Power" podcast) and talking about the long-running Legend of Zelda series. (They first discussed the series 3 years ago in a soon-to-be-released lost episode but had to shelve it for various reasons.) They discuss the brilliance of the N64 controller, the drawbacks to the Wiimote and Skyward Sword and debate backwards compatibility. They also talk about their first Zelda gaming experiences, why Zelda II: Adventure of Link might not be terrible, and unpack the awesomeness of Breath of the Wild and how it breaks from Zelda tradition. At one point, they have a fight over stylus storage, in which Nat and Laura think putting it back in the DS is optional, while Kyle and Matthew think they are monsters (Moblins, Tektites, Bokoblins... you choose). So sit back and enjoy the episode, but first, remember to go into the cave and grab your sword. After all, it's dangerous to go alone! This episode is sponsored by Mack Weldon.
