In 2006, a debate raged inside of Nintendo: Do they bundle their new Wii console with the game Wii Sports, or sell the game separately? Reggie Fils- Aimé was president of North America at the time, and he argued yes — because even though it meant giving up revenue upfront, it would lead to more Wii sales later. Here, he explains the battle and how he won it. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Zero Trust World 2025, hosted by ThreatLocker, is set to bring together IT professionals, business leaders, and cybersecurity practitioners for three days of hands-on labs, insightful discussions, and expert-led sessions. Taking place in Orlando, Florida, from February 19-21, this year's event promises an expanded agenda with cutting-edge topics, interactive workshops, and a unique approach to cybersecurity education. The Growth of Zero Trust WorldNow in its fifth year, Zero Trust World continues to grow exponentially, increasing in size by roughly 50% each year. Kieran Human, Special Projects Engineer at ThreatLocker, attributes this rapid expansion to the rising demand for cybersecurity solutions and the company's own growth. More IT leaders are recognizing the necessity of a Zero Trust approach—not just as a security measure, but as a fundamental philosophy for protecting their organizations. What to Expect: Hands-On Learning and Key DiscussionsOne of the biggest draws of Zero Trust World is its focus on hands-on experiences. Attendees can participate in hacking labs designed to teach them how cyber threats operate from an attacker's perspective. These include interactive exercises using rubber duckies—USB devices that mimic keyboards to inject malicious commands—demonstrating how easily cybercriminals can compromise systems. For those interested in practical applications of security measures, there will be sessions covering topics such as cookie theft, Metasploit, Windows and server security, and malware development. Whether an attendee is an entry-level IT professional or a seasoned security engineer, there's something to gain from these hands-on labs.High-Profile Speakers and Industry InsightsBeyond the labs, Zero Trust World 2025 will feature a lineup of influential speakers, including former Nintendo of America President and CEO Reggie Fils-Aimé, Chase Cunningham (known as Dr. Zero Trust), and ThreatLocker CEO Danny Jenkins. These sessions will provide strategic insights on Zero Trust implementation, industry challenges, and innovative cybersecurity practices. One of the key sessions to look forward to is “The Dangers of Shadow IT,” led by Ryan Bowman, VP of Solution Engineering at ThreatLocker. Shadow IT remains a major challenge for organizations striving to implement Zero Trust, as unauthorized applications and devices create vulnerabilities that security teams may not even be aware of. Stay tuned for a pre-event chat with Ryan coming your way soon.Networking, Certification, and MoreZero Trust World isn't just about education—it's also a prime networking opportunity. Attendees can connect during daily happy hours, the welcome and closing receptions, and a comic book-themed afterparty. ThreatLocker is even introducing a new cybersecurity comic book, adding a creative twist to the conference experience.A major highlight is the Cyber Hero Program, which offers attendees a chance to earn certification in Zero Trust principles. By completing the Cyber Hero exam, participants can have the cost of their event ticket fully refunded, making this an invaluable opportunity for those looking to deepen their cybersecurity expertise.A Unique Capture the Flag ChallengeFor those with advanced cybersecurity skills, the Capture the Flag challenge presents an exciting opportunity. The first person to successfully hack a specially designed, custom-painted high-end computer gets to take it home. This competition is expected to draw some of the best security minds in attendance, reinforcing the event's commitment to real-world application of cybersecurity techniques.Join the ConversationWith so much to see and do, Zero Trust World 2025 is shaping up to be an essential event for IT professionals, business leaders, and security practitioners. Sean Martin and Marco Ciappelli will be covering the event live, hosting interviews with speakers, panelists, and attendees to capture insights and takeaways.Whether you're looking to enhance your security knowledge, expand your professional network, or experience hands-on cybersecurity training, Zero Trust World 2025 offers something for everyone. The Entertainment Software Association (ESA) has officially announced the closure of the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), a once-pivotal event in the gaming industry. This announcement marks the end of an era for a convention that has been a central showcase for both the U.S. and global video game industry for over two decades. According to Stanley Pierre-Louis, President and CEO of the ESA, a combination of factors contributed to the decision to discontinue E3. These include the emergence of new competitors, partner withdrawals, evolving audience preferences, and disruptions caused by the pandemic. Despite efforts to revive the event, which has been a staple since 1995, these challenges ultimately led to its downfall. E3 began as a trade show in response to the marginalization of video games at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Over the years, it transformed into a massive multimedia event, showcasing major consoles like the Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360. It also became a platform for industry personalities, such as Hideo Kojima and Reggie Fils-Aimé, to gain fame.
Reggie Fils-Aimé, Retired President/COO of Nintendo of America, joins Wharton Business Daily to discuss the video game industry during the holiday season. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Former Nintendo of America President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime joins the conversation on “Making Waves at C-Level”. Award-winning innovator and disrupter, Reggie Fils-Aimé has been revered by business leaders and gaming fans alike for helping to bring some of Nintendo's greatest successes– the Nintendo DS, the Wii, the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and the Nintendo Switch – to the global marketplace. In his bestselling book, DISRUPTING THE GAME: From the Bronx to the Top of Nintendo, Fils-Aimé shares his story of grit and determination for the first time—from his humble beginnings in the Bronx as the son of Haitian immigrants, to the top of Nintendo as one of the most powerful names in the gaming industry—and the first American and African American president and chief operating officer for the company. Immortalized for opening Nintendo's 2004 E3 presentation with, “My name is Reggie, I'm about kicking ass. I'm about taking names, and we're about making games,” Fils-Aimé is a veteran at transforming companies, revitalizing brands, and reshaping industries. Here he outlines the leadership lessons he learned over the course of his career from his time working with iconic brands at P&G, like PepsiCo/Pizza Hut, Guinness Import Company and television entertainment with VH1 to his tenure at Nintendo. He helps readers leverage disruptive thinking to pinpoint the life choices that will make them truly happy, conquer negative perceptions from those who underestimate or outright dismiss them, and master the grit, perseverance, and resilience it takes to dominate in the business world. ABOUT Reggie Fils-Aime Reggie Fils-Aimé is an award-winning innovator and disrupter who has helped bring the Nintendo DS, the Wii, the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U and the Nintendo Switch to the global marketplace. He joined Nintendo of America Inc. in December 2003 as Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing. In May 2006, he was promoted to President and Chief Operating Officer. He was inducted into the International Videogame Hall of Fame in October 2019 and received the annual Legend Award from the New York Videogame Critics Circle in January 2020. Prior to joining Nintendo, Fils-Aimé was Senior Vice President of Marketing at VH1. During his tenure at VH1, he engineered the channel's redirection to young viewers that resulted in an overall 30 percent ratings growth, and he created and executed the marketing plans for The Concert for New York City, which raised more than $35 million for disaster relief in the wake of the Sept 11, 2001 attacks. Fils-Aimé graduated with distinction from Cornell's Dyson Undergraduate Business School in 1983 which launched a 35+ year career as an operating executive spanning the consumer-packaged goods, restaurant, beverage, and media/entertainment industries. Since retiring, he has focused his energy on developing the next generation of business leaders. In August 2019, he was named the inaugural Cornell University's Dyson Leader in Residence for the 2019-2020 academic year. Reggie Fils-Aimé's remarkable ascent from growing up in the Bronx to leading Nintendo as its president is an exceptional example of how entrepreneurial thinking can take you places you might not expect. Yet Reggie has always taken a unique path – and even gone against convention – in his career. That approach to work and life allowed him to rise to the top at Nintendo, which as an iconic Japanese company has its own set of rules that he had to learn and then unlearn as a leader. Fils-Aimé shares insights from his new book, Disrupting the Game: From the Bronx to the Top of Nintendo, including his five life principles. He also talks about his well-publicized decision to step down from the board at meme stock favorite GameStop. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Reggie Fils-Aimé (Disrupting the Game) is a businessman and former President and COO of Nintendo. Reggie joins the Armchair Expert to discuss how he marketed a Japanese video game company to American teenagers, how growing up in the Bronx shaped the rest of his life, and where he learned the concept of brand management from. Reggie and Dax talk about how massive the video game industry is compared to other forms of media, how the average video gamer has changed over the years, and how social media has changed our ideas about branding. Reggie explains what disruptive innovation means, why the relationship between product development and marketing matters, and what lessons he has learned by not always succeeding in his ventures. Back in 2004, the marketing definition of a "gamer" was narrow. It was young, and mostly male, and the video game industry was starting to stagnate. But Nintendo was poised to disrupt the gaming landscape (as it had done previously in the 1980s), and re-open the video game community to everyone. In North America, they had help from an enthusiastic new marketing VP named Reggie Fils-Aimé. Reggie later became president of Nintendo of America, and during his 16-year tenure with the company, he became its public face in the West. Video game fans around the world looked forward to his presentations and game announcements because they could tell he loved "Super Mario Bros.," "Pokémon," and "The Legend of Zelda" as much as they did. Nintendo's big swings resulted in some of the best-selling game systems in history: The Nintendo DS, the Wii, and the Switch. Reggie has since retired from Nintendo, but his new book "Disrupting the Game" recounts the successes, risks, mistakes, and many mentors he found along the way, including Satoru Iwata, the late president and CEO of the company.

During his tenure, Reggie helped bring the Nintendo DS, the Wii, and the Nintendo Switch to the global marketplace. One of the most memorable lines of the past two decades in video games was delivered not by a character in a game but by an executive on stage. “My name is Reggie. I'm about kicking ass and taking names — and we're about making games,” declared Reggie Fils-Aimé, introducing himself during Nintendo's presentation at the E3 convention in Los Angeles in 2004. The line represented a new attitude from Nintendo, a statement that the legendary game company hadn't given up in its battle against the would-be bosses of the industry, Sony and Microsoft. It marked the beginning of a resurgence for the Japanese company and its Redmond, Wash.-based subsidiary, Nintendo of America, which Fils-Aimé would go on to lead as president and chief operating officer. But it actually wasn't how that line was originally drafted. The last-minute change is one of many behind-the-scenes stories told by the retired Nintendo of America executive in his new book, “Disrupting the Game: From the Bronx to the Top of Nintendo.” The book combines Fils-Aimé's life story with leadership insights and some eye-opening anecdotes for fans of Nintendo and video games, including inside details about his working relationships with legendary game designer Shigeru Miyamoto and late Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata. Reggie Fils-Aimé joins us on this episode of the GeekWire Podcast to talk about his career, his book, and what's next in video games. He also shares the story of that pivotal introductory line, how it was originally supposed to be delivered, and the larger significance of the change that was made on the eve of the event. Former Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aimé first became an internet meme before most people knew what memes were: At Nintendo's presentation at the gaming expo E3 2004, he turned heads by announcing, "My name is Reggie. I'm about kickin' ass, I'm about takin' names, and we're about makin' games." "I received a message from my teenage son who told me, 'Dad, you're famous,'" Reggie says. "They weren't called memes at the time — these were Photoshopped images. He sent me these images of me blowing up a competitive console; me dressed up like Sylvester Stallone from one of his movies; me looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger from TheTerminator." Today on Follow Friday, Reggie shares the backstory of another press conference that made him even more internet-famous, and talks about his new book https://www.harpercollinsleadership.com/9781400226672/disrupting-the-game/ (Disrupting the Game: From the Bronx to the Top of Nintendo). Video games are more technologically sophisticated than ever these days — virtual reality headsets, augmented reality integration, and some of the most powerful and realistic graphics yet. At the end of the day, a good, innovative video game needs one important element. According to industry veteran Reggie Fils-Aimé, former President of Nintendo America, it’s simply to make the game good and fun. Fils-Aimé retired in 2019 but reflects on these ideas and his history of disrupting the gaming sector in his new autobiography, “Disrupting the Game: From the Bronx to the Top of Nintendo.” Marketplace’s Kimberly Adams spoke with him about where the innovation is happening in gaming right now. He says you just need to look at who’s creating those fun interactions.

Does it seem like activity is picking up out there in the tech world? Big fundings may be happening less frequently (with notable exceptions such as Convoy) but the return of events and in-person meetings seems to have created a collective energy that's been missing for the past two years. In that spirit, we've got a grab bag of topics on this week's show: New era for Netflix: News that Netflix is exploring a lower-price tier, supported by advertising, has us thinking back to our recent episode with Anthony Skinner, tech chief of advertising measurement and analytics company iSpot, who foreshadowed this move. We also marvel at the brief lifespan of CNN+, and lament all the streaming subscriptions on our monthly bills. Amazon's next big business? Amazon's unveiling of a new program called "Buy with Prime" will let Prime members buy items on non-Amazon e-commerce sites, and it's a key step toward a standalone Amazon shipping business, perhaps meeting the qualities of a "dreamy" business that Jeff Bezos outlined in his 2014 letter to shareholders. Paul Allen's legacy: The reported sale of late Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen's Flying Heritage Collection fits a pattern of his estate divesting some of his more fanciful projects, while sticking with his core investments in technology and science. It also hints at what's ahead for Living Computers Museum, the Seattle Seahawks, Cinerama, etc. More topics: GeekWire's upcoming trip to Pittsburgh; the May 12 GeekWire Awards; our recent episode with Soviet-born Seattle tech CEO Sergei Dreizin; and an upcoming episode with Reggie Fils-Aimé, the former Nintendo of America president, about his new book. With GeekWire co-founders Todd Bishop and John Cook; Audio editing and production by Curt Milton; Theme music by Daniel L.K. Caldwell. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
On today's IGN The Fix: Games, The Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer could have teased the inclusion of a Star Wars arc. Kingdom Hearts fans have noticed what could be the foot of an AT-ST walker during a brief scene in the trailer, indicating that Star Wars Planet Endor could be one of the Disney Worlds included in the next game. Elden Ring YouTuber Distortion2 is at it again, this time beating Elden Ring with the mighty power of his character's butt. Distortion2 beat Elden Ring using simply Ashes of War Ground Slam, Golden Slam, and Erdtree Slam, pretty effective damage dealing short distance AOE attack. It took Distortion2 just over 2 hours to beat Elden Ring, using the mighty power of his bum. Bravo! IGN & Rogue team up to create a new video game reality show.
