“I've crafted this mix with dubby rhythms and hazy, melodic textures to offer you a space for relaxation and reflection. With all the deception and darkness in the world today, I wanted to share a bit of calm - a way to escape the noise and find some clarity. This mix is my own response to everything that feels overwhelming, an invitation to just breathe, reconnect, and ground yourself. The more we feel connected and strong, the better we can help others. I hope these sounds carry you to a place of inner peace, where calm rises up through the haze…” Mareena is a DJ, producer and founder of the amazing podcast, label and event series UNRUSH. Welcome back from an unexpected month off, we are here with episode 68 of AIR, an interview podcast series with a different theme each episode. This month, I'm joined by producer, DJ, and live performer Sibel Kocer, also known as @jakojako_live. Having spent years toiling through manuals, books, and working at the famed synth shop Scheidersladen, Sibel eventually bought her first eurorack and the rest, as they say, was history: her productions are rooted in not only her love of storytelling, but her expertise as a modular specialist. On stage, her live and DJ sets are journeys, too, sometimes ambient, other times driving techno, but always thoughtful, hypnotic, and full of texture thanks to her uniquely changing live and studio set up. Sibel recently left her job at Schneidersladen to focus on making and playing music full time, and we sat down together to discuss the career ebbs and flows of an artist on the rise. JakoJako's new EP Segmente is available here: https://jakojako.bandcamp.com/album/segmente-ep ++ Music: "Introspektion" - JakoJako (2024) "Opak" - JakoJako (2023) "Obejkt" - JakoJako (2022) ++ Follow AIR Instagram: www.instagram.com/_airpodcast/ Patreon: www.patreon.com/airpodcast Substack: airpodcast.substack.com

JakoJako (@jakojako_live) always wanted to make music and her self-confessed hyperactivity ultimately led to her getting the most joy out of playing about with machines and patching up synths. These days the Berghain resident is a celebrated live act and DJ who draws on the considerable knowledge she picked up working at Berlin's legendary synth shop SchneidersLaden, but she has also worked on several high-profile motion sensor dance projects at places like The Royal Albert Hall. Her smart sound designs and unique rhythms have landed on Leisure System, Tresor and Figure and she has a new EP coming on Mute this June. Her mix for us this week features a sneak preview of one of the tracks from that EP as well as mixing up music from Alaric, Siege, Altinbas and many more. It's full of high-speed sounds couched loosely in techno but with moods and textures borrowed from industrial, minimal and even trance as things reach an emotional peak late on. Though she broke through as a live act, this set shows JakoJako can now speak just as freely through the decks.

Speedy J is a key figure in the history of Techno, most recently with the development of his improvisational collaborative project Stoor. Check out some of the epic ADE performances: 2023 JakoJako x Karenn (Blawan & Pariah) x Surgeon x Speedy J - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h9D0sPIaSY4 2022 Dasha Rush x Rod20 x Rødhåd x Surgeon - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMfbX6714j0 So of course we discuss that, but also the 30th anniversary of his landmark album Ginger. Released as part of the Warp Records Artificial Intelligence series, it was a key plank in the run of releases that made such a huge impact on electronic music. And an album that I smoked a lot of weed to as a teenager. This is a bit shorter than usual, but it's a good one... you're gonna enjoy it. After several years buried in books, manuals, patch cables and messing with a DIY synth, JakoJako (real name Sibel Koçer) was playing her first live sets in Berlin, spending every spare cent on Eurorack modules. The trio Emeralds with soaring sounds stylistically indebted to deep German electronic music pioneers. ACTIVE DARK FILAMENT is a Canadian electronic music artist creating textured cinematic compositions, often containing a narrative edge. Like nearly all of Inquiri's music, there is a distinct element of heartache mixed with hope, elements of drone voice field recording and intense layers of sound to draw in the listener. From The Mouth Of The Sun is on a mission to bring its dynamic breed of electro-acoustic classical music to the masses this year. 'Seabuckthorn' is a guitarist meticulously putting together layers of overdubs, richly textured percussion and brooding reverb-drenched atmospheric sounds, lastly, White Noise From Electronic Toys creating music to calm down your mind during difficult times or to help you relax when you need it. In this episode of Awake All Hours, George starts by giving us all an insight into what went down at the much anticipated debut year of Risen Festival (08:28), a new festival for London with a completely non-male lineup. We then jump into album reviews, which features the self-titled debut from Whatever The Weather aka Loraine James (27:10), ‘Metamorphose' by modular synth and gear head JakoJako (46:10) and the astonishing world of ‘Sicko' by Oakland experimental artist Beast Nest (57:00). We finish, as always, with What's In My Bandcamp Basket (01:09:19), rounding up our favourite new club leaning cuts! SUPPORT THE ARTISTS: https://buymusic.club/list/awakeallhours-ep-048-risen-festival-review-whatever-the-weather-jakojako-and-beast-nestSUPPORT AWAKE ALL HOURS: www.patreon.com/awakeallhours

G'day to you all from around the world. Once again, the music beckons your attention and hopefully livens up your day. You know what to expect, sounds to please the ears and heart. Most of the artists you recognise here preview their new albums and tunes for the first time on Sequences. Just three newcomers: from Austria, Johannes Winkler's debut album ‘Vogelperspektive', the former pilot takes us on a journey through soundscapes and ambient structures inspired by a legacy of airborne perspectives. The synth sisters Mareena & JakoJako, two talented musicians and friends, embark on a joyful voyage through sound, fully immersed in an all captivating wall of sound, and finally, a bit of a mystery, translated from Chinese, Cipher Zero, on a label of underground music based in China. We dive straight into the second album by Holland Holmes on Spotted Peccary. Here we have a plethora of synthesizers ebb, flow, and surround each other like shifting tides in a sonic mix of Berlin School sequences, traditional melodic structures, and emotional chord progressions. It started with an urge to play with sound, a DIY synth, and a desire to know more. After several years buried in books, manuals and patch cables, JakoJako was performing her first live sets around Berlin, and spending every spare penny on Eurorack modules. The passion became all consuming, and in 2017, she left her nursing career to work at the legendary Berlin synth shop Schneidersladen, where's she's been sharing her knowledge of tools and techniques with the city's music makers ever since. Technique is no use without ideas to apply it to, and fortunately JakoJako has a natural supply. “When you hear a sound in the environment, say a car passing by, you don't appreciate the complexity until you think how you might synthesise it.” She explains. “Then it becomes something abstract; a collection of modulated pitches and timbres. I love to listen to the world like this..” Her approach may seem studious, but JakoJako uses this fluency in the language of sound to convey emotion, and each track is an experiment, with success based on the intensity of feeling it creates. Her debut EP “Aequilibration”, released in 2019 on Leisure System Records, showcased this explorative mindset, with four very different stylistic ideas tied together through emotive sound design, sharp production, and a strong sense of melody. The release was followed by a string of live gigs, performed with her modular system and Elektron boxes, including a release party at Berghain, playing a standout set alongside Ben UFO and Marie Davidson. With regular events disappearing in 2020, live music migrated online, finding a global audience in shared experience of isolation. After streaming a live set for HÖR Radio, she was invited to take part in an online event for Arté, hosted by Innervisions and United We Stream, alongside Amé and Frank Wiedermann. This led to a filmed live performance in her studio for Fact Magazine's Patch Notes series, and an in-depth video feature for Electronic Beats, which together have over half a million views (and counting). Offline, JakoJako has made good use of the time in her studio, producing tracks on compilations for B-Pitch Control and Figure Records, remixes for Crouds on Intumi, and most recently, for New Order on Mute Records. More solo work is in the pipeline too, including a new EP for Leisure System Records, due in mid 2021. * https://www.sooperradio.com/
