Thank you for tuning in for another episode of Life's Best Medicine. Drs. Owen Johnston and Jennifer Shaw are physical therapists based in San Diego. In October 2021 they founded Advanced Physical Therapy and Wellness. Their mission is “to save millions of people worldwide from unnecessary surgery.” They actively participate in the community by writing and providing E-books and running workshops at gyms around the city. In their conversation, Brian, Jennifer, and Owen talk about getting out of the big medical system and starting their own private practices, how Owen and Jennifer established their patient base, the tragedy of doctor burnout, a holistic approach to health, the usage of essential oils toward that goal of holistic health, listening to and trusting God to direct your path, and discovering the vision for your life. Life's Best Medicine According to Owen: “Self-development. Taking a holistic approach to self-improvement and self-development. And the spiritual element is also absolutely key.” Life's Best Medicine According to Jeniffer: “It is who you surround yourself with. We and only we have the power to control who has access to us and our energy and who can impact us and our energy.” Thank you for listening. Have a blessed day and stay healthy!   Links:   Drs. These heart-breaking experiences led them to purposefully adopt three elementary-aged children with health challenges. In her #1 Amazon best-selling children's book, DUMPLINGS MEAN FAMILY, Jennifer Shaw shares how her family of five grew to eight in less than two years as she and her husband adopted three children from China. Telly Award-winning artist, author, and speaker Jennifer Shaw is donating a portion of the sales of her #1 Amazon best-selling children's book “Dumplings Mean Family” to Open Hearts for Orphans. The proceeds will assist the non-profit organization to educate children at their Uganda orphanage. “We are so thankful for the opportunity to share this beautiful new book with our supporters,” says Lisa Murphy, CEO of Open Hearts for Orphans. “We are even more thankful that Jennifer Shaw has chosen to donate a portion of the royalties to bless vulnerable children." “I am thrilled to be partnering with Open Hearts for Orphans on their educational initiative,” says Shaw. “Their program to help orphaned children access medical care, food, and education are literally life- saving, and align so closely with my heart. I know their director personally as we have both walked through our own adoption journeys, so I can speak to her integrity and passion for the welfare of children. I am excited that we are able to use our book to help children in need.” Shaw was challenged as a mother when her youngest biological son, Toby, was diagnosed with a severe case of Sensory Processing Disorder, but nothing really prepared her for adopting three children from China with medical issues, ages 6-9, in the span of 15 months. Published in partnership with Madison Adoption Associates and Compassion International, “Dumplings Mean Family” is the true story of how one of Shaw's newly-adopted sons, Ethan, wanted to have authentic Chinese food for dinner. The story is told from a child's perspective about how the Shaws learned to incorporate their adopted children's culture into their family to help them feel at home, and how families can help offer adopted children a sense of belonging   Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/success-made-to-last-legends--4302039/support.

Soberoso

ep -55 with Doctor Jennifer Shaw in San Diego, California This episode is packed full of good stuff and some new topics we haven't discussed on this show yet. Doctor Jenn has always had that all or nothing attitude which is often the case with those of us with addictive personalities. Joining us from San Diego, Jennifer is a doctor with a background in physical therapy and after finishing seven years of schooling and just three weeks into her dream job she was hit by a car while on her bicycle. Dr. Jenn was instantly disabled at the young age of 24 and had a long road of recovery ahead of her. At one point she was taking 30 prescribed pills a day to cope with the chronic pain, nerve damage etc. Her Doctors told her she would be dependent on these meds for the rest of her life but Jen had different ideas. She was challenged by someone she trusted to go for six months without drinking or getting involved in a relationship to find true healing for herself. This was the start in Jennifer's journey of living a clean and sober life and she openly shares her story with us. We also discuss being in a relationship with a narcissist and how to identify these types of people. Doctor Jennifer Shaw also has her own podcast titled Natural Wellness Tips be sure to check it out and follow her on Instagram. Welcome to The Soberoso™ Podcast where we invite guests and listeners from around the world to join us in “Sharing Our Passion For Recovery.” If you are an old timer in recovery, a newcomer, sober curious or a loved one of someone who struggles with alcoholism, addiction or mental health issues this show is for you. In this video, Jennifer talks about how she used oral histories to refute the dominant historiographical notion that Jews did not participate in homefront war activities. In fact, Jewish women's participation in home front activities carried a much different meaning and weight than it did for other women due to their Jewishness. In our conversation, she showed quotes from her oral history participants and paired them with photographs with little information attached, to demonstrate how the histories of Jewish women's experiences during the war can be lost without speaking to the women themselves.
