#158 Jonathan Willis on Discipleship, Faith, and the Power of Relationships

Become a Provider

Play Episode Listen Later Apr 7, 2025 48:52

Justin sits down with his brother-in-law, Jonathan Willis, for a conversation about faith, discipleship, and the power of community. Jonathan grew up in a Christian home, but for years, his faith was more about structure than relationship. Pride and self-reliance kept him from surrendering, and when life felt uncertain, he found himself frustrated and lost. But in that searching, God kept whispering, Remember, remember. Looking back, Jonathan saw that God had been there all along. For 16 months, he was without a job, wondering what God was calling him into. But provision doesn't always come as expected. God's provision is often people. Community pointed him back to Jesus, reminded him of God's faithfulness, and helped him navigate uncertainty. Real Christian community isn't about doing life alone—it's about leaning on others and allowing God to work through relationships. The biggest breakthroughs often happen in the unplanned moments. Discipleship has become Jonathan's greatest passion. Whether through Young Life, outreach trips, or intentional conversations, he's seen how helping people recognize their gifts and equipping them to love others can transform lives. It's not just about teaching—it's about walking together and creating space for God to move. His journey is a reminder that we aren't meant to do this alone. When we rely on God and the people He places in our lives, we find strength, direction, and a deeper understanding of what it means to truly follow Jesus. Hey, fellow Bitcoin and Crypto lovers! Thanks for joining me again; in today's episode, we dove deep into the intersection of AI, blockchain, and the film industry with our esteemed guests, Navin Vethungayem from IQ.wiki and film producer Jonathan Willis, alongside community builder Isaac Wilson. Navin shared insights into IQ.wiki, the world's giant blockchain encyclopedia, and its expansion into AI with IQGPT.com, a platform trained on blockchain data to answer any crypto-related question. He also teased their upcoming product, IQ Code, which aims to be the first AI for smart contracts, potentially revolutionizing security and development in the crypto space. Jonathan and Isaac discussed their innovative approach to integrating the meme coin market with the film industry. They introduced us to Mickey Meme, a token that gives holders unique access to the filmmaking process, including roles in movies and input on production. Their upcoming film, "Crypto Heist," exemplifies this model, promising to be a fun and engaging heist movie with community involvement. The conversation also discussed the challenges and strategies for building and maintaining a strong community in the volatile meme coin market. Jonathan and Isaac emphasized the importance of providing real-world utility and democratizing access to the film industry to foster a dedicated and active community. As we wrapped up, our guests encouraged listeners to get involved, whether through script ideas, behind-the-scenes work, or other creative contributions, highlighting the inclusive nature of their projects. This episode was a fascinating look at how AI, blockchain, and community engagement are shaping the future of crypto and film, and we can't wait to see what our guests achieve next. But how much do you know about the 'story behind the story', and in particular about Mary Shelley herself? In this episode, Chris has the honour of chatting to Chris Harris and Jonathan Willis, the founders of the all-new immersive experience 'House of Frankenstein', situated in Bath. The first of its kind, 'House of Frankenstein' sheds a whole new light on the classic tale, delving into Mary Shelley's own tragic life and the events that led to her writing the book, as well as celebrating the impact 'Frankenstein' has had on the literary world and pop culture ever since. Chris and Jonathan discuss the moment which set this project in motion, their own love of 'Frankenstein', their future plans for the attraction and even how they created their own 8-foot version of The Creature, the first time there has been anything like this built using Mary Shelley's own vision! When Elizabeth I came to the throne in 1558, she inherited a tense political and religion tension that bordered dangerously close to civil war over Protestantism vs Catholicism in England. Historical basis for wars with France, the reputation of the Huguenots, and the painful English loss of Calais after ruling it for 150 years all played a role in the reception of small details, including the representation of France beside England in plays like William Shakespeare’s Henry V. For the audiences of France, religion was a tumultuous topic with many people now Protestant by government decree, with parents, even Shakespeare’s own father, who had potentially closeted Catholic sentiments. As with many things, the context of religion vs government or something more casual was a giant ball of complicated emotions that caused playwrights like William Shakespeare to need to perform a balancing act to produce a show that would be popular, but not get him arrested in the process. Here today to help us analyze the role of religion in England, the impact of Elizabeth’s Religious Settlement, and how the country received plays like Henry V, is our guest Dr. Jonathan Willis.

Usually we'd be starting to talk about training camp around this time. Instead, the focus is still the possible lockout, the summer's activities by Canada's NHL teams and advanced stats and how they enhance our enjoyment of the game. We explore these topics and others with guests Harrison Mooney, Terry Jones and more. This is Nation Radio. Terry Jones talks about Oilers over the summer, what we can expect of them and Dubnyk's importance to the team this season. Terry also discusses his upcoming series on coach Ralph Krueger (first installment today in the Sun and online).Next up, Harrison Mooney of Pass It To Bulis and Puck Daddy talks about the Olympics and then shifts to CBA discussions. LT and Harrison then slide into Canucks matters, including Luongo, Kesler and Mike Gillis. LeafsNation's main man Cam Charron drops by to discuss the Toronto Maple Leafs and their summer. LT and Cam get into a conversation that ends with both openly wondering about Brian Burke's long term future in the city. Our own Jonathan Willis has interesting opinions about the Oilers in 12-13, the CBA negotiations and the strength of the OKC Barons with or without the Nuge.Eric T. of NHLNumbers and Broadstreet Hockey explains his take on the Flyers season, their injuries and Ilya Bryzgalov. Eric then explains the concept of "A Competition Metric Based on Ice Time" and how it can improve our enjoyment of the game. Finally, regular Thomas Drance stops by for a quick discussion of the Canucks and Shane Doan. Drance and Cam Charron have been going back and forth on Shane Doan and LT asks Thom if the Canucks should bite the bullet and sign Shane Doan to a big 35+ contract. You may be surprised by his answer.  Full Whole thing. As always, we'd like to remind prospective sponsors that we still have a few spots available on Nation Radio.
