St. Denis Medical is a mockumentary-style sitcom that premiered on NBC in 2024. The show is set in an underfunded hospital in Oregon, where overworked doctors and nurses strive to treat patients while juggling their own personal and professional challenges. St. Denis Medical was created by Eric Ledgin and Justin Spitzer. Spitzer best known for creating the hit show, Superstore. Will the S1E1 boys rate this one as high as they did Superstore? Listen as they deep dive the show's pilot episode, "Welcome To St. Denis". Starring: Wendi McLendon-Covey, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson. Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper, David Alan Grier, Kaliko Kauahi, & Mindy Sterling. www.S1E1POD.com Instagram & X (Twitter): @S1E1POD
Superstore creator Justin Spitzer has teamed up with Eric Ledgin for a new sitcom set at an Oregon hospital. Is it goofier than the subject matter demands? Stephanie Early Green returns to talk about it. Around The Dial takes us through Married At First Sight, Anatomy Of Lies, Sister Wives, Cruel Doubt, and The Penguin. Stephanie pitches the 10th episode of Australia's Instant Hotel's first season for induction into The Canon. Then, after naming the week's Winner and Loser, we close up with a Game Time about TV shows that burned brightly, but too briefly (and...not always brightly). Put your feet up -- in or out of traction; that's up to you -- and join us! GUESTS
With the help of guest Mira Lamson Klein, we discuss the pilot episode of Superstore, from the creative means used to make a two-aisle set resemble a full store, to the variety of real-world labor and discrimination issues covered in this show, to Amy and Jonah's status as the best sitcom slow-burn of all.Subscribe to our newsletter at itsinmyqueue.substack.com.Find us on Twitter: @inmyqueuepod • @adinaterrific • @karaaa_powellAnd Instagram: @inmyqueuepodor send comments, questions, and show suggestions to us at itsinmyqueuepod@gmail.com!
This episode is not a review of Matt Reeves's The Batman. It's a review of season 1 to 6 of Superstore on NBC. ....although you could be fooled! Stevie and Emmet discuss how this workplace comedy used the format to raise issues with unionism, corporate America - and the COVID pandemic. How successful is Justin Spitzer's show in dealing with these storylines? Listen on to find out! (also Emmet keeps talking about Epix's From!).
Q&A on the series American Auto with creator & showrunner Justin Spitzer and actor X Mayo. Moderated by Mara Webster, In Creative Company. The offbeat executives and employees of a major automobile company in Detroit try to adjust to a rapidly shifting industry. New CEO Katherine Hastings, whose bold leadership and business savvy is only slightly offset by her complete lack of knowledge about cars, must steer a crew of diverse characters and opinions in an audacious new direction if they want to keep up with the times -- while dealing with all the issues of life in the modern workplace. From the corporate offices to the factory floor, they'll pull out all the stops to make it work... if they can get out of their own way.
American Auto is a show that was originally in the works as early as 2013 when its creator Justin Spitzer, who had spent years as a writer and producer on "The Office" decided he wanted to create a workplace comedy of his own. This time however, he wanted to focus on upper level management. The show was sold to NBC but didn't end up getting the go ahead to create a pilot. After then Spitzer pivoted and created the hit show "Superstore". Then in 2019 went back to redevelop a pilot for American Auto. The show, focusing on the corporate side of the fictional company Payne Motors was eventually moved forward staring Ana Gasteyer (Saturday Night Live, Mean Girls). Do the S1E1 guys give this show the green-light or should NBC have stuck with their initial assessment? Listen and find out! www.S1E1POD.com
"American Auto" is the latest workplace comedy from writer and showrunner Justin Spitzer and stars Ana Gasteyer as the new CEO of a Detroit-based car company. Both will join to talk about the show and it's take on corporate culture in advance of its premiere on NBC's Peacock streaming channel.
Episode 75 and Wendi and Dfernando revisit their guest interview with Hollywood actor-turned-renown photographer Randall Slavin. Picking up a camera didn't start out as an artistic pursuit for Randall Slavin. While working a dead end job in a gas station, he wandered into a local photography studio and struck up a friendship with the owner. The owner took the young Slavin under his wing and taught him a few photography basics, then promptly fired him a few months later. With nowhere else to turn, Slavin put one foot in front of the other and never looked back. In the years since and through his lens, he's documented his journey. As an actor he was seen on numerous classic TV shows: ROSEANNE, CYBILL, BEVERLY HILLS 90210, THE PRACTICE, ANGEL, to CSI: CRIME SCENE INVESTIGATION, and on film in ZOOLANDER, PRIMAL FEAR, and LEGENDS OF THE FALL. Randall Slavin had his photography debut in the prestigious New York Times Magazine and his work has appeared in Vanity Fair, GQ, Esquire, Rolling Stone and many others. Slavin had his first exhibit in Paris in 2008 and a solo show at Annenberg Space For Photography in 2011. He received the 2011 Hollywood Style Award for "Photographer of the Year."From the vinyl seats of Hollywood nightclubs in 1999 to glossy cover shoots in New York, Slavin has captured snapshots of it all, encapsulated in his debut photography collection, WE ALL WANT SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL. Featuring stunning portraits and spirited candids of the most recognizable people in Hollywood, Slavin offers us a peek behind the curtain in this ultimately revelatory collection that will last a lifetime. Also on Episode 75, Wendi and Dfernando talk about the late great fashion icon Andre Leon Talley, and Dfernando shares his experience attending a post-screening Q&A for the 2019 Truman Capote documentary THE CAPOTE TAPES that featured Talley. Wendi shares "procrasturbating" - the art of putting things off till the last minute. On THE RIPE REPORT, Wendi shares The Republic of Tea Daily Beauty Blueberry Lavender Herbal Tea, and Dfernando discovers the new NBC TV workplace comedy AMERICAN AUTO, created by Justin Spitzer and starring Ana Gasteyer (now streaming on NBC OnDemand, Hulu, and Peacock TV).
