Welcome to episode 251 Skazz shares his thoughts on the game we recently played during game night: Nidhogg. It's a deceptively simple 2D sword-fighting game with surprising depth in its mechanics and an incredible amount of fun. We also dive into the newly announced PS5 Pro, discussing how a stable frame rate can enhance a game's visuals more effectively than higher resolution. This sparks a passionate rant from Skazz about how modern games often fall short in terms of gameplay mechanics, and we explore why focusing on graphics isn't the right approach. Our conversation then shifts to movies, with Ram revealing that he's just watched the entire Harry Potter series—most of them for the first time. This leads to a discussion about separating the author from their work, particularly in the case of J.K. Rowling, and how good things can be pulled from terrible situations . We also take a moment to appreciate the late Alan Rickman's incredible acting. Finally, Ram gives us an update on his adventures in Empyrion - Galactic Survival. He's excited about the prospect of finally getting his spaceship off the ground next time! Notes Skazz makes great use of his Whitton skills in Nidhogg A game to practise the basics of fighting in FOOTSIES A step back in graphics? The Bad Guys A decent film series with Harry Potter The horrific case of Thalidomide So was Snape a Villain, or a hero? Gone too soon Alan Rickman One of the more random project Daniel Radcliff has been involved in Guns Akimbo When you have film success, why not buy an Ice Cream van and hand them out for free Still having fun in space with Empyrion - Galactic Survival.

Spoiler alert: it was every bit as hilarious as the title suggests.Sylvie is talking too loud about seeing Merrily We Roll Along on Broadway and how at the end of this particular showing, Daniel Radcliff led the audience through an impromptu live auction. 2022 was the beginning of the grand return to normalcy in many ways, and for comedy: there was a lot to look at and even more we missed. From big comedies tentpole comedies like Jackass Forever and Everything Everywhere All At Once, to smaller scale send-ups like Daniel Radcliff in Weird: The Al Yankovic Story or Jon Hamm in Confess Fletch, the comedy film was visible but sometimes fleeting. Plus, we pour one out to the big comic icons lost in 2022 including Bob Saget and Gilbert Gottfried, and talk about the contraversies that most blew our mind - Kenan vs Chris Redd, Will Smith's slapgate and the great SNL cast exodus. Joining Vic is podcaster from The Movie Gap Chase Austin, who has seen more than his fair share of media this year both good and bad - perhaps due in no small part to his wife. Tonight we are discussing the 1989 British horror drama television film directed by Herbert Wise (most famous for I, Cladius, who worked solidly from 1957 to 2001 on everything from The Bill to 9 episodes of Tales of the Unexpected - including ‘The Landlady' which may well be the episode that Jon talked about remembering in episode 29) It stars Adrian Rawlins (Harry Potters Dead Dad in the movies and Mr Pike in one episode of Neighbours), Bernard Hepton (I, Claudius, Get Carter Tinker Tailor, Soldier Spy and Colditz), David Daker (93 episodes of Boon, 84 episodes of Z cars, Time Bandits and 2 Doctor Who stories: Irongron in The Time Warrior and Captain Rigg in Nightmare of Eden) and Pauline Moran ( who was Miss Lemon in many episodes of Poirot and was bass player in the all female band ‘The She Trinity' who had a top 40 hit a cover of "He fought the law" in 1966.). Hill's The Woman in Black had already been adapted into a beloved stage-play that went to become the West End's second longest running, non-musical after The Moustrap. More recently, the story was filmed by Hammer in 2012, staring Daniel Radcliff and going on to be the highest grossing British horror movie of all time. This teleplay is adapted from the 1983 novel of the same name by Susan Hill. It focuses on a young solicitor who is sent to a coastal English village to settle the estate of a reclusive widow, and finds the town haunted. The programme was produced by Central Independent Television for ITV, it was filmed at Stanlake Park in Berkshire, using the causeway to Osea Island, near Goldhanger in Essex, and the local salt marshes, whilst scenes to represent Crythin Gifford were filmed at the National Trust village of Lacock, near Chippenham, Wiltshire. and premiered on Christmas Eve 1989. It was an unexpected success, though author Susan Hill reportedly disagreed with some of the slight changes made in the adaptation By General Witchfinder's favourite Nigel Kneale, who you will all most like be aware of as the writer of the eerie and downright terrifying with his Quatermass tetralogy and, the classic ‘The Stone tape', The Road and Beasts, a six horror stories based around animals, for ITV. Reclusive romance novelist Loretta Sage has been forced to go on a book tour with her cover model, Alan, when she is kidnapped by the treasure-hunting media mogul, Abigail Fairfax. It's up to Alan to save the day. Good thing he packed some snacks and sensible shoes! It's actually a rom com, folks. We weren't sure from the trailer, but this move would have fit nicely in our Action Movie March (still workshopping) line up. It's an updated Romancing the Stone, or possibly a gender bent Indiana Jones with rom com elements. Lydea watched this movie on Epix. Katie and Chris rented it. They think from Amazon Prime, but they don't remember.

Crucially closer to Romancing The Stone than Raiders of the Lost Ark, this is an un-challenging balm for troubled times. Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum have the charisma and comic chops to carry the movie, even if the frequent flat spots stop it shy of greatness. It should be criminal, however, not to have had Brad Pitt in two thirds of the movie in arguably the cameo of the year (spin off!!!) and has Daniel Radcliff finally found his groove playing evil billionaires?!

Recommended by Madison Ferriell and joined by my lovely sister Mackenzie, the next episode of The Movie Commentary Podcast sees us watching the sixth Harry Potter movie: Harry Potter and The Half-Blood Prince. Harry Potter has become a pop-culture phenomenon ever since the first book was released in 1997. Since then, there have been seven books, eight movies, one play, several spin-offs and legions of fans. Starring the longtime trio of Daniel Radcliff as Harry Potter; Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley; and Emma Watson as Hermione Granger, the sixth movie in the Harry Potter series sees our trio heading back to Hogwarts as the wizarding world is rife with war against the Dark Lord Voldemort. Harry must navigate the perils of being the most famous wizard in the world who is under constant danger, along with the usual hijinks that every 17 year old gets involved with when at school. Listen along as Mackenzie and I (attempt) to talk about all things Harry Potter. Our information and details may not be correct, but it's still a fun time!!Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcast/id1526950957 Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1RLQAkNzaWQoVBLBZITNSCYoutube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRxehtzRCZ4qjfLTMDIClbw/Soundcloud: https://soundcloud.com/user-347499519hGoogle Podcasts: https://podcasts.google.com/feed/aHR0cHM6Ly9hbmNob3IuZm0vcy8zMDExNGVmYy9wb2RjYXN0L3Jzcw?sa=X&ved=0CAIQ4aUDahcKEwjol9z975HrAhUAAAAAHQAAAAAQBQStitcher: https://www.stitcher.com/podcast/the-movie-commentary-podcastiHeart Radio: https://www.iheart.com/podcast/1248-the-movie-commentary-podc-71326635/Instagram: @themoviecommentarypodcast
Justin Bettman is a prolific photographer who still approaches life and work with a punk-rock view. Even though Justin has worked with some of the most well-known celebrities and brands in the world (think: everyone from Daniel Radcliff to Spotify), he is constantly living by the motto: do first, ask questions later. But, Justin didn't seamlessly move from There to Here, as you'll hear in our chat today. Like many of our guests so far, Justin continues to push his own boundaries and definition of creativity - whether it was during his first job at Ogilvy, the top-tier advertising agency - where he started in a rotational business program and somehow figured out his way to become an in-house photographer, or when he started #SetinTheStreet - a now-viral, international art project that simply started as a way to have fun with photography without having access to a fancy set or props. This conversation is for anyone who feels like they have a creative spark within them, but feels too constrained by what they “should” be doing (like Elle Luna explained last episode). For our photography buffs - Justin shares the exact ways he prepares and thinks about a photoshoot. And for the rest of us, he dives deep into something extremely important: the mindset he's cultivated to help him get from There to Here -without letting money, resources or excuses hold him back. Some stuff we also cover: Justin's exact process of experimenting with photography - both as a craft and a business - starting in high school The step-by-step approach Justin took to move from a business role to becoming in-house photography at Ogilvy How Justin created #SetInTheStreet - a viral, international art project - from idea phase to working with the NYC Times Square Art Alliance Why you don't need a huge budget or professional equipment to get started on any creative project Exactly how Justin prepares and completes post-production for his large-scale photoshoots How to keep experimenting with your craft and keep a beginner's mind Resources you might want to check out: Social media: @justinbettman Website: justinbettman.com As always, this podcast is sponsored by: Daydreamers.
