Hunting big cats can be controversial — just ask GearJunkie Hunt & Fish Editor Rachelle Schrute. In a recent opinion piece, Schrute took infamous big-cat hustler and CEO of Big Cat Rescue, Carole Baskin, to task over her statements and documented “fallacies” surrounding the topic. In her open letter, Schrute attempts to correct misunderstanding and educate others that Baskin’s statements may have misinformed in an opinion piece published by The Denver Post in October of 2023. The purpose of Baskin’s article was to “shed light” on the issues surrounding big cat hunting and to support Colorado’s ballot initiative to ban trophy hunting and trapping of wild cats. Her arguments center around the idea that hunting mountain lions or bobcats are for trophy hunting and not for the consumption of meat. We sit down with Schrute on The GearJunkie Podcast to digest her disagreements with Baskin and add greater context to the conversation. The post Hunting Big Cats: Baskin’ in Big-Cat Misinformation appeared first on GearJunkie.

Dwight thinks he's in prime position to become manager, but a terrifying mishap brings his candidacy into questionSpencer talks about seeing this episode for the first time, while Van and Brian offer a reappraisal years removed from their disappointment in the show's final couple seasons. Joe Milton has a band of believers. Despite starting just two games last season, Milton earned third-team preseason All-SEC quarterback recognition. Milton's honor roll spot is a credit to his performance in an Orange Bowl victory against Clemson, along with his steady hand as Tennessee's backup quarterback until Hendon Hooker injured his knee in November. Milton's always had the arm strength, and he showed a complementing poise and touch in the Orange Bowl. Accuracy inconsistencies cost Milton previous starting opportunities at Michigan, then at Tennessee, but that apparently didn't dissuade voters. On today's episode, hosts Blake Toppmeyer, John Adams and Adam Sparks weigh in on Milton's preseason recognition and debate whether Milton play his way onto the postseason All-SEC team. While preseason recognition is nice, it's worth about as much as a Schrute buck. But, if Milton follows in Hooker's path of being an All-SEC performer, that could unlock another New Year's Six appearance for Tennessee. Rachelle Schrute, hunter, conservationist and public lands advocate, joins Sam on The Wild Initiative to discuss her passion for hunting and conservation. Sam and Rachelle discuss how there's nothing as exciting as having a bull screaming back at your calls and how she got within “licking distance” of elk on a hunt. Rachelle then discusses how the controversy over corner crossing in Montana cost her a hunt but kicked off her passion for conservation and public land access. They go on to discuss access issues and how important is for hunters to be writing letters and sitting in on commission meetings even though it's not the “fun” part of conservation. Yet even in the face of her passion for conservation, Rachelle tells us about the death threats she's received from within the hunting industry during her ascension to become “the poster child for everything that's wrong with conservation.” Her response? “If you're going to say that I'm doing it wrong, then maybe you should step up and do it the way you think is right.”... “if it all goes to hell, tough s#%t.” Sam and Rachelle also discuss the issues within the hunting industry and the ever-changing “purity index” of what's allowed on hunting social media. Rachelle reminds us, “If ethical hunters stop sharing what we do, then all you're left with is the douchebags sharing it and that becomes what people see as hunting.”... “If there are no visuals of what ethical, responsible hunting is, they will represent us all by default.” See more on the show notes page at thewildinitiative.com/229. "The Office," an American mockumentary sitcom, ran on NBC for nine seasons through 2013 and continues to resonate with fans for its satirical humor and sometimes brutally absurd depiction of everyday work life. Central to business operations at Dunder Mifflin Paper Company, Inc. are the personal relationships among the characters, as well as the transformation many undergo over the course of their employment together. Most notable is lead character Dwight Schrute, who embodies the hero’s journey as theorized by mythologist Joseph Campbell. Host Dr. Melinda Lewis gets to the bottom of the paper piles with longtime fan of "The Office" and Drexel University Mathematics professor Dr. Dimitrios Papadopoulos. Rainn Wilson took a break from his star turn at Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre to stop by City Hall and talk to Mayor Emanuel about acting and service, his Baha'i faith and his current play "The Doppelgänger (an international farce)," and, of course, his iconic role on "The Office" as Scranton's most beloved paper salesman/beet farmer.
On this week's episode, we are joined by a personal friend of the show, the talented Nick Farrar to discuss Scranton's finest - the assistant to the regional manager, Dwight K. Episode # 127 of THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID finds both Matt and Kevin jamming out to Semisonic. It's Y2K all over again! When Robert California berates Andy for the office staff's many mistakes, it's up to Dwight "#2" Schrute to set things right-- with a computerized doomsday... I mean "accountability" booster. Five strikes, one home run, and the self-destruct mechanism is triggered. Surely they'll be up for the challenge. Right? Ehem. Meanwhile, Gabe and Darryl enter a Bermuda Triangle of love, and... well, that's about it for side-plots. Incidental music provided by Music Alley from Mevio.
