New Book Shot At Love! Kerry Brett on Turning Dating Missteps into a Movement

Send us a textTune into the first interview Kerry Brett gives on Cosmic Scene with Jill Jardine to discuss the launch of her new book Shot At Love, A Celebrity Photographer's Lens on Dating and Finding Love. The latest best-selling release is a raw, hilarious, and deeply insightful story of the host of Shot At Love; Kerry Brett's journey from heartbreak to happiness will have you laughing, nodding in recognition, and rethinking your approach to finding love. When Kerry Brett found herself at what she calls "the basement of rock bottom" after a painful breakup, she turned to an unexpected source of hope: Tinder. But unlike many who approach dating apps with dread, this award-winning Boston photographer embraced the platform as a creative opportunity. With the same keen eye she used to capture celebrities like David Ortiz and Amy Poehler, Kerry developed a method for identifying potential matches, creating authentic connections, and ultimately finding love.Kerry's story is compelling because of her unique blend of self-deprecating humor, spirituality, and practical wisdom. Each chapter of her newly released book "Shot At Love" begins with a Sanskrit mantra, connecting ancient wisdom to modern dating challenges. From the "German Leo" to the "Irish Leprechaun" and finally to her successful Tinder match, Kerry's dating adventures read like a Boston version of Sex and the City – minus the sex, as she quips, because "she's Irish Catholic, 51, and her parents listen to her show."The most powerful takeaway from our conversation is Kerry's insight that the stories we tell ourselves often become our biggest obstacles. Whether it's believing you're "damaged goods" because of past relationships or thinking no one wants to date a single parent, these internal narratives limit possibilities. As Kerry emphasizes, "Beauty is an inside job" – how you feel about yourself ultimately determines how others perceive and treat you.Kerry's journey offers hope and a roadmap for anyone navigating the complex world of modern dating. Her transformation from celebrated photographer to award-winning podcast host and author demonstrates how following your authentic path can lead to unexpected opportunities and, yes, even love.Take your best shot at love by checking out Kerry's new book "Shot At Love" on Amazon or at shotatloveook.com, and tune into her podcast for daily doses of dating wisdom and inspiration. Movement at the Still Point, An Ode to Dance In this episode of  “Dance Talk” ® with Joanne Carey, join host Joanne Carey as she chats with Special Guest: Mark Mann, renowned Celebrity Photographer, who found himself, like all of us, silent and without a space to create during the COVID-19 pandemic shutdown. For an artist, not being able to create is lonely, for a dancer, not being able to move, is a daily death. Enter sister-in-law, Loni Landon, choreographer, dancer & movement director living in NYC who suggested to Mark to take some photographs of her community who were hurting as well. Together with Loni, Jacob Levy (Mark's producer) along with a host of other yes's, and over 140 dancers, a collaboration was born that transcends any photographic lens. Mark says it best: "In what had been my first moment of stillness, I discovered boundless humanity in their movement. This book is a testament to the power of their expression, in movement and stillness." MARK MANN is a renowned celebrity and advertising photographer who originally hails from the sun-soaked streets of Glasgow Scotland. The countless list of famous faces photographed in Mann's unique and recognizable style includes President Barack Obama, President Bill Clinton, Iggy Pop, Rihanna, Martin Scorcese, Jennifer Aniston, Stevie Wonder, Eartha Kitt, Robin Williams, Emma Stone, Bill Murray, Jessica Lange, Arthur Miller, Margot Robbie, Robert Redford, Queen Latifah, Michael Douglas, Gillian Anderson, Dave Chappelle, Olivia Wilde, Bradley Cooper, Willie Nelson, Sean Connery and many more. Mark's editorial work has appeared in Esquire, Men's Health, Vibe, Spin, Fortune, Billboard, Parade, and Complex, and his clients include Reebok, Adidas, Hennessy, Bombay Sapphire, Pepsi, Gillette, Vitamin Water, NHL, Zumba, Ford, Chrysler, and Svedka to name a few. Always hungry for new subjects and challenges Mark has spearheaded his own projects over the years, one of which was creating a collection of LUCHA LIBRE wrestlers.  Where all the photographs were shot on a vintage Graflex camera using polaroid instant film. Most recently he was struck by the contrast of dancing bodies to his traditional portraits in a new body of work which culminated in a book titled Movement at The Still Point: an Ode to Dance published by Rizzoli International in March 2023.  Mark was born in Glasgow, where he lived until he was accepted to the prestigious photographic program at Manchester Polytechnic. Upon graduating Mark was immediately taken under the wing by innovative fashion photographers, Nick Knight and Miles Aldridge, where he learned the ropes and quickly built his own body of work. Three years later, Mark started shooting on his own and relocated to New York City where 26 years later he still lives with his wife and son, and their recently adopted Chihuahua, Shaq. https://movementatthestillpoint.com/ Follow @markmannphoto on Instagram Follow Joanne Carey on Instagram @westfieldschoolofdance And follow  “Dance Talk” ® with Joanne Carey wherever you listen to your podcasts. About our guestJeremy Cowart has spent the past 15 years as a photographer, specializing in celebrity portraiture and humanitarian photography projects around the world. Before becoming a photographer, he spent time as both an abstract painter and a graphic designer. Jeremy's career has often been called a Forrest Gump art career. He just chases ideas in whichever direction they lead him, finding himself in the most random of new situations, moments of success and failures, all while dealing with his own life's hardships (raising 4 kids - one with special needs - and managing his own neurological disease)From being named the internet's most influential photographer at one point to speaking in stadiums to being featured at an art auction alongside the greatest artists that have ever lived… it's always something wildly surprising, even for Cowart himself. “I don't set goals or plan ahead and money never motivates me. On this episode of the Friends in Beauty podcast I welcome JD Barnes to the Friends in Beauty guest chair.   JD is a photographer who, although having lost complete vision in his right eye due to uveitis, takes pride in his ability to see beyond the typical and in doing so create something special every time he picks up his camera.    After returning to the states from a modeling career in Europe JD decided to pursue photography. With over 10 years of experience in the industry he has solidified a name for himself. His work has been featured in publications such as Essence, Harper's Bazaar, WWD, and Vogue UK to name a few. While he has photographed some of the most famous artists of today — Lizzo, Billy Porter, Regina King, Alicia Keys — he's as ambitious as ever and still pushing forward on his artistic journey.   JD believes "An artist walks by feeling, by emotion, by intuition. It's what separates us from the technicians of the world. There is no fear of wrong, only of mediocrity."    I was so honored to sit down and have this conversation with JD as he is someone who is very low-key & doesn't typically do interviews. My persistence paid off and I was able to get him on the FIB Podcast. I've been following his work for years and I knew that this conversation would be a treat for my photographers and other Friends in Beauty.    In this interview JD shares:   -How he got his start as a photographer -How his past as a model helps him as a photographer -How losing vision in his right eye affected his photography -Some pet peeves he has -How photographers can strengthen their skillset -Answers questions from the FIB community -How to protect your images from getting lost -And so much more   I really enjoyed this conversation with JD and I know you will too.
