This week on Office Ladies 6.0, the ladies interview “Office” writers Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg! Gene and Lee are credited for writing great episodes like “Dinner Party”, “Scott's Tots” and “The Secret” among many others. Gene and Lee share how they met and then got their jobs on “The Office”. They dive into writing an unexpected side of a character like Angela Martin going out of her way to get the attention of Charles Miner in the office and learning subtext from Greg Daniels. They also talk about an episode they wanted to make but the writing staff was never able to crack. This is such a fun episode to see the perspective of writing for “The Office”. So whether you've had a worse birthday than Michael or not, enjoy this episode! JOIN TSL WORKSHOPS: https://tslworkshops.circle.so How does a TV writer go from working on a classic sitcom (The Office), to a deeply-felt immigrant dramedy (Little America), to creating a hidden camera show (Jury Duty), and most recently, creating an Emmy-nominated female-driven workplace drama (Lessons in Chemistry)? Hard work. Despite his mega-career, Lee Eisenberg doesn't believe he is in the upper echelon of Hollywood's most talented writers, but he does believe he outworks almost anyone else in town. Tune in to find out how you can, too.

“I moved out to LA in 1999 with my best friend from high school. Every summer in college, we would write a screenplay. We were waiters during the day and then at night we would write,” says Lee Eisenberg. “Primarily, we would write comedies, or at least what we were attempting to be comedies.” Eventually, the partnership dissolved. Eisenberg's friend got a real job and he eventually landed a PA job on the film, Bedazzled. “I was the office PA and I met an intern named Gene Stupnitsky (No Hard Feelings) who was working for Harold Ramis.” “We started writing together, sold a few ideas to Larry David for Curb Your Enthusiasm, then wrote a pilot about two loser magicians who were roommates and just trying to get ahead. We were the two losers,” he jokes. “We sold it to Fox. It never got made, but that was our writing sample. We got hired on The Office. Funny enough, Harold read it, liked it, and hired us to co-write the movie Year One with him.” “When we were first starting off, I think jokes ruled. I'm very proud of that initial pilot, but it has no pathos. It could be animated to a certain extent. It had a lot of similarities to Flight of the Conchords or Arrested Development and less so, The Office.” These days, Eisenberg is best known for writing The Office, Bad Teacher, Hello Ladies, Good Boys, WeCrashed, Little America, and two new series, Jury Duty and Lessons in Chemistry. Editors - Diana Fishman, Adam Lichtenstein and Mary DeChambres ACE The JURY DUTY editing team had plenty of experience cutting unscripted tv before taking on the hit Freevee series. But is it actually an unscripted show? To hear their fellow JURY DUTY editor Steven Rosenthal tell it, they were "using the techniques of a reality show for the purposes of a sitcom". The end result is a series unlike any in either the unscripted or scripted comedy genres. JURY DUTY is a reality/sitcom tv series that chronicles the inner workings of a U.S. jury trial through the eyes of juror Ronald Gladden, a solar contractor from San Diego. Ronald is unaware that his jury duty summons was not official. Everything that happened, inside and outside the courtroom, was planned. And everyone in the courtroom, aside from him, was an actor. The series was produced by; Ruben Fleischer, Nick Hatton, Cody Heller, Gene Stupnitsky, Todd Schulman, Lee Eisenberg, David Bernad and Andrew Weinberg. Jake Szymanski also produced and directed. Diana Fishman Editor Diana Fishman is known for her work on the shows; GRACE AND FRANKIE (2015), THE UCB SHOW (2016-17) and SOUTH SIDE (2019-21). Adam Lichtenstein Born with a natural love for time code, Adam showed an early preference for non-drop frame, then rose through the editorial ranks pretending to enjoy sports, overusing terms like "shots on goal", "swish", "in your face" and "that's what I'm talking about" without the slightest idea what he was talking about. He recently completed work on the documentary, FILM GEEK (2023) directed by Richard Shepard. Mary DeChambres, ACE In addition to her work crafting the finale of JURY DUTY, Emmy®-winning editor Mary DeChambres is known for cutting unscripted hits such as; PROJECT RUNWAY (2008), AMERICAN NINJA WARRIOR (2013-23) and THE REAL WORLD (2002-03). Jordan is joined by Sophia Rossi and Lee Eisenberg to discuss their recent voyage behind-the-scenes at Taco Bell Headquarters in beautiful Irvine, California. The trio review a bunch of new "coming soon" Taco Bell specials they were lucky enough to taste test, and talk the dream of making their own Taco Bell creations. Plus, Angler is finally put out of its misery by Los Angeles, which Jordan and Lee eulogize while Sophia questions it all.
One of the more underrated series to come out in 2023 is Jury Duty on Freevee. Freevee is the free version of the Amazon Prime app, which includes commercials. Jury Duty plays on the premise of a group of individuals showing up for jury duty, but the trial is fake, all but one is an actor, and everything storyline is staged. This show deals with individual moral judgments while leaning hard into the comedy aspects of the story. In this spoiler-free episode in the MovieBuffs Podcast, host Tyler Valencia shares why you should add this to your watchlist immediately and shares some of his favorite aspects of the show. Jury Duty stars James Marsden as an over-the-top version of himself and a cast of lesser-known actors you might recognize from many movies and shows. The series' creators are Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupinski. Jury Duty holds an 8.4/10 IMDb rating, 74% Rotten Tomatoes average, and 97% average audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Our new friend Zoe asked for a 'movies' episode, so we had a ball with her: her mom Tina made the bizarre ASMRs, Zoe's dad made up some movie flavored bad dad jokes, and their family friend 'Uncle Vince' got a new segment with which we aim to entertain you. There are many highlights to this episode, but meeting Hollywood movie producer Lee Eisenberg was Ari's favorite. Lee shares how 'making it' in Hollywood doesn't just happen, it is earned through hard work and dedication. After years of putting in late hours & learning from rejected scripts, Lee & his partner became writers for 'The Office' which was a stepping stone to producing for the big screen. There are so many fun segments in this episode, and we love your participation! The Trippin' Errol segment is back and in it, Errol answered all of your questions. Note we didn't say if he answered them all correctly.. you'll have to tune in & find out for yourself. Don't forget to wish Ari a Happy Birthday with a review on Apple Podcasts!

In today's episode of Bingeworthy, our revitalized TV and streaming podcast co-hosts Mike DeAngelo and Rodrigo Perez dig into the rise and trend of tech grifter television which is all the rage at this very moment. Specifically, we discuss Apple TV+'s new series “WeCrashed,” which tells the true story of Adam and Rebecca Neumann (played by Jared Leto and Anne Hathaway, respectively), founders of WeWork, which grew from a single co-working space in New York to a global brand worth $47 billion in under a decade — until disaster struck. It's a hilarious, but also genuine and empathetic look at the hubris and greed of the WeWork grifters, their questionable-at-best business practices, and the love story that drives them to great heights (read our review) We also discuss a similar series currently airing on Hulu, “The Dropout,” which stars Amanda Seyfried as Elizabeth Holmes, founder of Theranos. In a similar vein to “WeCrashed,” it tracks the rise and fall of the Theranos brand, which touted the development of groundbreaking healthcare technology that would save lives, but oops, forgot what tiny major detail of it all: the technology they assumed they could create quickly, proved to be much more unfeasible and didn't actually exist yet. Talk about the horse before the cart arrogance. (read our review) After the conversation, writer/showrunners Lee Eisenberg and Drew Crevello stop by to talk about bringing “WeCrashed” to the screen, not only because it was an interesting story, but because there was a love story dynamic in the middle of it that really made it stand out beyond the start-up rise and fall series that were already out there. But even more terrifying? Meeting her new in-laws. It was set up at Showtime with Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky attached to produce and Marc Webb attached to direct. The End stars Hannah Einbeinder (Hacks) as Lila Silver, Biniam Bizuneh (Dave) as Marty, Amy Hill (Magnum PI) as Victoria Matthews, Brian Huskey (Veep) as Walter, Daniel David Stewart (Catch 22) as Gabe, Xander Berkeley (The Walking Dead) as Uncle Jake, Radina Dradnova (Host) as Becky, Jessie Ennis (Mythic Quest) as Nic and Andrew Reich with stage directions.Get the video for the table read for as little as $5 by going to https://maximumfun.org/joinIt's MaxFun Block Party - October 11 – 22, 2021!MaxFun Block Party is a new way to bring the MaxFun community together online for some fun, plus a little inspiration for you to try a new show or share a show you like. On this week’s episode of Inside the Hive, co-hosts Emily Jane Fox and Joe Hagan ask the question: If this reality-TV presidency was scripted, how might it end? Expanding on a special project published in the Hive this week—in which Susan Orlean, Tom Perrotta, Anthony Scaramucci, Alexandra Petri and others imagine a Trump-era “finale”—the hosts bring in special guest Lee Eisenberg, former head writer of The Office (and Hive-famous financée to Fox), to discuss how a writer’s room in Hollywood might build a bookend to the series—or, as the case may be, a cliffhanger to another season of Trumpian hell. In the spirit of both hope and realism, the hosts offer advice for surviving the next week and begin (carefully) imagining post-election possibilities for a nation desperate to wean itself from Trump’s show-and-awe dopamine hits. On this episode we talk about “Good Boys” A coming-of-age comedy starring three actual teenagers. I'm not going to bury the lede here we thoroughly enjoyed this film. Granted it's not your big budget Blockbuster or Oscar contending biopic. It is in the purest sense a comedy that uses humor to tell some interesting anecdotes about being a real teenager. Directed by Gene Stypnitsky and written by him and Lee Eisenberg. And Starring three wonderful actors, Jacob Tremblay, Keith L. Williams, and Brad Noon. These young actors bring a genuine comedy and understanding of the material and somehow elevate a raunchy comedy.

The closing of the Four Seasons, home of the “power lunch.”
Lee Eisenberg was the editor-in-chief of Esquire magazine for two decades. In 1995, he joined Time Inc. as a consulting editor and helped launch a series of new initiatives such as Time.com, Time for Kids, and The Time 100. In 2006, he published The Number, which became a national bestseller. Today, Lee talks to Connor and Roger about his latest book, The Point Is, and why having a personal narrative is so important for our life journey. Key Takeaways: [0:30] As of today, we're in Toronto, L.A, and Vancouver. [0:35] If you're in any of those cities, come out to our event. [2:55] What was a defining moment for Lee as a man? [4:25] How do we really build a life story for ourselves? [5:00] Why did Lee write The Point Is? [7:15] Why do we endure certain memories and re-write others? [8:50] Personal narrative requires a lot of self-reflection. [9:00] Were there any commonalities in how people saw themselves? [10:35] Lee has only kept a diary once in his life. [12:20] When you record events in real time, you really don't know what they'll stand for later. [12:50] Virtually no one is keeping a diary. [16:25] Lee is a bit cynical about talk therapy; however, it can help reexamine past traumas and bad memories and help you rewrite your life story. [17:35] Most people feel like they're not using their creative channel efficiency. [18:45] It's important to uncover your story as well as share your story. [20:10] You don't necessarily tell your story to others, but at the very least tell your story to yourself. [20:20] Why do we remember certain things so strongly and why do we attach so much importance to certain things? [20:55] How can people dive into their personal story a bit more? [22:25] We create personal myths for ourselves. What is your personal myth? [23:30] What novel genre would your life story be? [27:50] The power of narrative is why we can go through life and make some sense of it. [28:55] Do people get their personal narrative mixed up with other people's view of them? [30:25] What legacy would Lee like to leave behind? In this age of consumerism, instant gratification and information, it’s often hard to think about something as abstract as the “meaning of life.” The ideas of birth, death, and infinity, which used to introduce a popular television show of the early 60’s, are ideas seldom thought about today. Yet these are questions that human beings have been asking since the beginning of time. Lee Eisenberg, who previously looked at our relationship to money in The Number, now takes on these questions with even more enthusiasm than Monty Python did, in his new book The Point Is: Making Sense of Birth, Death, and Everything in Between My conversation with Lee Eisenberg:
New York Times bestselling author and legendary Esquire Magazine editor-in-chief Lee Eisenberg speaks with Ellie Knaus about his new book "The Point Is: Making Sense of Birth, Death, and Everything in Between". We discuss the identity shift that comes with parenthood, how early childhood memories influence one’s personal myth, the importance of jotting down the little moments, and what constitutes a meaningful existence. We also talk about the “H Word”…happiness. Find more of Eisenberg’s work: www.leeeisenberg.com. Riki talks with writer Lee Eisenberg (Bad Teacher, The Office) about discipline, time management, writer's block and the benefits of a great partnership.
Defending credit card companies is hard to do because they do have quite a few practices that are down right sleazy (shrinking grace periods, escalating interest rate, holiday due dates, etc.), but if used properly they can be a helpful financial tool. In this episode we share articles from the following: "8 Experts Recall Their Best Personal Finance Advice" by Dana Dratch from bankrate.com "Are Credit Cards Evil, or Just Dangerous?" by Liz Pulliam Weston from MSN Money "Where Do You Stand in the Wealth Spectrum?" by Lee Eisenberg from Bankrate.com "Dealing With a Disaster and Your Insurance Company" by Jennie L. It was the WRITERS' day to shine in Scranton today, as Greg Daniels, Mike Schur, Kent Zbornak, B.J. Novak, Mindy Kaling, Jennifer Celotta, Lee Eisenberg, Gene Stupnitsky, Lester Lewis, and... "the rest" of the writing staff fielded questions from the fans about writing for the best show on TV. Sadly, Paul Lieberstein couldn't make it out to the show this weekend, but as you can see, B. J. Novak made a surprise appearance to (hopefully) make up for it. Oh, and we also got to see the first ten minutes of "Branch Wars," which "Sunday Matt" proclaims to be "dawesome." Again, sorry for the audio quality... hope you can still enjoy the content.
