Today we have a delightful conversation with Karen James, a creative teacher of accessible yoga, based in the UK. In this episode, you'll "discover the joy of sitting on a chair," as Karen puts it, and how chair yoga can be beneficial for just about anyone. You'll hear how Karen went from "power yoga" to feeling more empowered through gentle yoga, and how it helped her connect with her authentic self in new ways. We talk about how creativity enhances both the enjoyment and the accessibility of the practice, and you'll hear Karen describe how she comes up with fluid and interesting sequences using the chair. We also reflect on safety, practicing yoga online, and the role of hands-on adjustments during in-person classes. And, in true creative fashion, we end the episode with one of Karen's poems (which I think you will absolutely love)! It feels like there’s no better place to start for exploring the concept of purpose, than with a discussion with Karen James. This absolute powerhouse of an author, facilitator, consultant and keynote speaker has thrown all that she’s got at elevating our conversations of purpose as a society, and enabling everyone to tap into the power of examining existence. An engineer by background, a passionate social advocate by choice, a champion for women’s rights and a proud single mother, it’s no surprise that my conversation with Karen was not only filled with soulful insight, but with stories, practical advice and tools for what it means to identify and implement purpose in our lives. We dove in on some of the biggest questions possible surrounding the idea of purpose, like is discovering purpose a choice or chance? When truly switched on, how can purpose help guide some of our day-to-day actions, not just our overarching strategies? What role does storytelling play in the role of purpose?“It [discovering your purpose] can take months, but once you’ve nailed it, it can last you decades”It can be hard to talk about purpose without it becoming a conversation of lofty concepts and ambiguous references, which made my conversation with Karen all the more impressive. I walked away with some really clear inspiration on how to begin working through these questions for myself and my business. How to create a purpose blueprint, and the important of knowing what we stand for and value and how these things can become a compass, and not just a collection of nice words.“If you have a strategy, or a purpose, that you can’t execute, you just have a slogan” - Karen James

Today I am joined by John Beckett founder and CEO of Seed. His passion is helping individuals and organisations to develop and articulate a clear sense of identity and purpose, and to find the places where their own stories fit with God’s story and God’s purposes. John is the Founder and CEO of Seed. His passion is helping individuals and organisations to develop and articulate a clear sense of identity and purpose, and to find the places where their own stories fit with God’s story and God’s purposes. Too often people feel like living a life aligned with God’s purposes is too difficult to grasp, so John developed Seed as a vehicle to help give people the agency, support, resources, networks and confidence to create a new chapter to their stories. His hope and prayer is that Seed will help many to step into their God-given purpose, for the sake of the world and the glory of God. Prior to founding Seed John was engaged in working for social change as National Director of Micah Challenge Australia for almost 6 years. John led and developed a growing coalition of Christian development agencies, churches and individuals to campaign on multiple issues affecting the global poor. He has a Masters in Theology from Regent College in Canada. John lives in Sydney with his beautiful wife Allie and three daughters. In this episode: John shares his blueprint of his purpose of living God’s purpose for him and to serve others and implement social change How John lives his purpose of helping others through his organisation Seed. Seed is an enabler and incubator for social and cultural change that aligns with God's purposes for the world.
