This simple, but effective lesson, creates a sense of wholeness and connection from your feet to your head. This lesson is from the Feldenkrais Mini Lessons course that can be purchased. This self paced course has 16 mini lessons ranging from 15- 30 minutes. The lessons in this course are there for you when you need a shift or interruption of your current state, but don't have an hour to spare. Yogi Aaron's journey in the yoga world began in the mid-1990s, a time when the practice was gaining traction globally. Practicing alongside notable individuals like Wade Morrison and witnessing the rise of brands such as Lululemon, Yogi Aaron has seen the yoga community evolve over the years. He takes pride in Lululemon's international success, particularly given its Canadian roots. Born into a "hippy dippy" family, Aaron's early years were steeped in alternative spiritual practices, including time spent at a spiritual healing center in Vancouver. This background clashed with his Christian evangelical upbringing, creating an internal conflict that would later shape his approach to yoga and spirituality. Challenges and Transformations As Aaron aged, he noticed his body tightening and saw yoga as a solution for maintaining mobility. Initially, his practice focused on physical stretching and hardcore power yoga. However, a pivotal moment came when Wade Morrison commented that Aaron lacked true practice. This critique pushed Aaron to seek a deeper understanding and more profound guidance in yoga. Aaron's yoga practice not only improved his physical flexibility but also enhanced his mental focus, helping him manage his attention deficit disorder. His formative years at a boys' boarding school in Alberta, filled with outdoor activities, had taught him the importance of managing his energy effectively. Despite early improvements, Aaron faced worsening back problems due to incorrect adjustments and stretching practices in yoga. These injuries led him to delve deeper into yoga beyond physical postures, exploring its spiritual dimensions.  He studied with various influential yoga teachers, including Rod Stryker, Rajmani Tigunait, and Alan Finger, embracing the deeper, spiritual aspects of yoga. This journey took him beyond physical poses to a greater understanding of energy management and enlightenment. Innovations in Yoga Practice Aaron's commitment to yoga, despite significant injuries, led him to question traditional practices and seek new understanding. He discovered muscle activation techniques, which provided profound insights into biomechanics and muscle function. This newfound knowledge transformed his approach to yoga, shifting the focus from traditional stretching and alignment practices to proper body mechanics and muscle activation. Recognizing the need to challenge misconceptions in the yoga world, Aaron began to understand his body's pain and stiffness, particularly in his hamstrings. This exploration led him to integrate muscle activation techniques into yoga, aiming to replace traditional stretching with muscle activation.  Aaron discovered that muscle tightness, such as in the hamstrings, is a protective mechanism due to other muscles not contracting properly. True mobility and stability, he realized, come from muscles contracting and shortening correctly, not lengthening. To bring this biomechanical awareness into yoga, Aaron developed the A.Y.A.M.A. (Applied Yoga Anatomy and Muscle Activation) method. His teachings emphasize the importance of proper body mechanics and muscle activation for true mobility and stability. Aaron's Blue Osa Yoga Retreat & Spa serves as a sanctuary for yoga teachers, individual retreat-goers, and hosts his yoga teacher training sessions. To distance his yoga retreat from his previous naked men's yoga group, he rebranded himself from Aaron Star to Yogi Aaron. He leverages online platforms like YouTube and the Yogi Club to provide content and courses on becoming pain-free. Commitment to a Pain-Free Life A key message in Aaron's teachings is the importance of finding a real teacher who challenges and inspires growth. Despite facing resistance and skepticism from the yoga community due to his unconventional views on stretching, Aaron remains steadfast in his mission. His book "Stop Stretching" and his teachings aim to help people live pain-free lives. For those interested in exploring Yogi Aaron's innovative approach to yoga and mobility, his website, yogiaaron.com, serves as a comprehensive hub. Here, visitors can access his book, podcast, and free resources, including a "7 Days to Becoming Pain-Free" series. Aaron's commitment is clear: to help anyone who comes into his space live their best pain-free life. In this podcast, you will learn about: The emphasis of Yogi Aaron's A.Y.A.M.A. method on muscle activation and proper body mechanics over traditional stretching. The integration of physical flexibility, mental focus, and spiritual understanding in Aaron's journey, enhancing overall well-being and managing attention deficit disorder. The impact of significant injuries on Aaron's shift to muscle activation techniques, transforming his approach to yoga and mobility. Aaron's use of YouTube and the Yogi Club to provide courses like "7 Days to Becoming Pain-Free," aimed at helping people live pain-free lives. The focus of Aaron's trainings and retreats on proper biomechanics and muscle activation for achieving true mobility. And much more. Eek I won't lie today's episode isn't an easy discussion to have, but you know me I am here for it all, and sometimes we need to hear the difficult things. I had a lovely teacher reach out on Instagram who's experiencing a situation that ALL of us would feel rubbish about, including myself. It's that topic of contrast, the stuff we don't want to experience.  But it's the stuff we need, I'm going to say it's the stuff that gives birth to our dreams! When something happens that is causing us a problem, pain or discomfort, there's only so long we can carry on and ignore it.  It's there to help us grow, develop and move on to that next bigger thing. I know how easy it is to be annoyed with all the ‘free' yoga out there. But what if there's room for us all, the free classes, the paid classes, the lower and the higher priced? What if free yoga meant that people who can't afford to come to a paid class can do yoga, that has to be a good thing. It doesn't mean you have to give away free yoga, but it's not the reason why you are struggling to fill your paid offers. Charge what you want for your yoga classes, be the most expensive kid on the block, give away a free weekly class and everywhere in between.  It doesn't matter, what matters you are behind you and what you do. I am grateful for all the free yoga out there (sorry guys if that's not what you wanted me to say!) Here's my invitation to you to stop going it alone, let's work together: For Female Entrepreneurs – https://energymindsetmoneyandmore.substack.com/ For Yoga Teachers – visit www.amy-yoga.com

Episode 95: Today's podcast is constructed in two parts. First, I will be talking about posture as a dynamic system and giving some information on my Feldenkrais series, Posture Matters, explaining how a Feldenkrais approach to posture restoration is different from other modalities. Then we will go into an abbreviated lesson.  The lesson portion of today is a little taste of the first lesson in the Posture Matters series and begins around 21:33. Posture, including the tension in the shoulders and the neck that originates from a forwardness of one's head is one of the most requested topics I get from students. It's a difficulty that none of us are immune to. If you are interested in this work, join the Posture Matters series which can always be done as a self-paced course. Sarah Baumert has been teaching movement since 2006. She is a certified yoga teacher, yoga therapist and Feldenkrais practitioner. Oftentimes if our eyes have a more narrow focus (like when we are looking at a fixed object such as a screen), then our whole body can start to shrink inward and feel compressed. This is a fantastic practice to juice up the spine after a day of sitting and integrate the eyes after a day of looking at a screen. Sarah Baumert has been teaching movement since 2006. Following the podcast episode with Kamini Desai, in which she introduces us to the art of Yoga Nidra, we are now superexcited to share with you a free Yoga Nidra gift from Kamini Desai as a special treat for you this holiday season. If you are in need to slow down, take a break from the ongoing festivities or upgrade your resilience – here is your perfect how to. What is Yoga Nidra? Yoga Nidra, known as the 'Yogic sleep' is an ancient practice that invokes deep relaxation and calmness of the heart, mind and soul. In our latest podcast episode with Kamini Desai we have been introduced to the beautiful art of Yoga Nidra and what makes it a spiritual practice. As the year is drawing to a close we are offered with opportunities to stand still and allow ourselves the space for contemplation of what was, what is and what will become. The benefits of Yoga Nidra Yoga Nidra is a wonderful tool to support us through these times of digestion and processing. Originally a nyasa meditation practice (the practice of moving of consciousness through the different body parts retaining prana) from traditional Tantra Yoga, it has profound healing effects on the body, mind, and soul. Yoga Nidra guides practitioners into a deep state of relaxation putting the practitioner into a space between the alpha and theta state. This allows us to rest in deep relaxation, a state between waking and sleeping, a state that calms the autonomic nervous system that we need to regulate our body's processes and that take place without a conscious effort. In addition, it puts the parasympathetic nervous system into a deeper resting state. A calm nervous system is the state we want to act and live from at all times. Yoga Nidra offers a great variety of benefits that we have listed for you below: Improved thought patterns and reduced stress Enhanced cognitive performance and memory Improved self-esteem and confidence Better sleep Improved waking mindfulness Diminishes symptoms of anxiety and depression Treats chronic pain and post-traumatic stress disorder Lowers blood pressure Reduces addiction Enhances creativity Reduces PTSD Strengthens immune system Recharges vital energy Strengthens the endocrine system Reduces the need for pain medication ...and many many more Weaving Yoga Nidra into our every day over a certain period of time helps us greatly to meet the external and internal challenges of life from a space of calm, hope and ease, allowing us to look at the bright side of life rather than through a sense of stress and contraction. Kamini Desai is offering us a beautiful Yoga Nidra practice to enjoy in the safe environment of your home. Enjoy!

A lot of us judge our yoga practice and when we don't assume to shape or feel elevated in a peaceful state than we feel like a failure. But I am sharing that a yogi is not something that fits inside of a box. There is no certain way we "need" to be to have a practice of yoga. Welcome my Lovelies! My Birthday is coming up and as I reflect on the last year of my life I open and share. Here I offer the gifts we can give ourselves. These are not the material gifts, these are the emotional, healing and sometimes metaphysical gifts we need on a deeper level. As I enter the last year of my thirties I am proud of the woman I am. I look and can see all of the good I have brought into the world and into my children's lives. Every step I take forward is with intention and vulnerability and I walk one foot at a time. Even though the inner voice would tell me other wise, I am the thinker of my thoughts. It is me who gets to trust in the process of life, even though the control freak in me strongly discourages me to. Today I share there are so many different gifts we can give ourselves. We can offer the gift of a grateful heart, the gift of self-compassion, the gift of forgiving ourselves and others. And forgiveness is for you, it is for no one else. Forgiveness is an incredible emotional healer that allows us so much inner freedom. Forgiveness isn't something we need to ask permission for it is something we find inside of ourselves in one breath, one moment of surrendering from holding on to the past. Another gift I am offering myself as I move into thirty-nine is the gift of unconditional love. This sounds so simple yet so complex. Because usually the love we give ourselves is a conditional love that is given only when we feel we have succeed and all of the other times we go to the opposite end of the spectrum. I am so grateful to be on this journey and I feel one of the greatest gifts I have given myself is the gift of being me. Just me with no apologies, authentically myself and not care what anyone thinks. Please head over to iTunes and leave Awaken You with Shelly Bond a five star rating and a review. Hello My Lovely Sisters! Thank you for showing up with me as I am exploring this week and where I am struggling. As I am here sharing, I am also here holding space for you. Today I feel called to share what alignment means to me. And as I reflect, I am learning where I am feeling aligned and where I am not feeling aligned. Through inner work we can show up better in our lives. When we can take time to see what we are experiencing and turn these into moments of growth and asking ourselves 'what am I to learn from this?' Alignment isn't what I was originally thinking, how my body feels and moves into Yoga poses. Alignment transmutes into all aspects of our lives, from our relationships, into how we are sleeping, how we are working, how our homes feel, and alignment even rolls into our emotional and mental state of being. Here I am opening up lines of communicating in hopes to bring you to some self realizations of where you feel alignment is effortless and where it is constricting. Thank you for your open heart and mind to grow with me. I am so grateful for you! If you felt called to this episode and know someone who can use the message, please share. Todays' class is Neck Care Part 3 - mobility. Part 1 was awareness, Part 2, strength, and now we will take a  more in depth look at stretching the neck safely. It's important not to view the neck as something we tug and pull at and just stretch aggressively. This is why I am taking a comprehensive look at the many ways we can approach neck care. If you are trying all of the neck classes in this series, you can take note of which approach you are finding most helpful and supportive for you and then return to those episodes. If you are enjoying these neck care classes, and would like a longer version of the class, with visuals, I currently have a sample video class that works with these similar concepts, register to watch the class here. For an even deeper study of this topic you can check out my Freeing the Neck and Shoulders Series, and Unraveling Body Anxiety Series, both of which are Feldenkrais focused. You will need one to two blankets for class. A large bath towel or other firm blanket will suffice. Sarah Baumert has been teaching movement since 2006. She is a certified yoga teacher, yoga therapist and Feldenkrais practitioner. This podcast is an intersection of her yoga teaching and training in the Feldenkrais® method. Classes include sensory rich movement experiences for a more resilient and healthy nervous system to help you feel a greater sense of ease and comfort in yourself. Improve text neck discomfort and build strength in the right places for your neck. Last week's podcast was mostly awareness of the neck and releasing of unnecessary habitual tension held in the neck. This week, we take a look at how to strengthen the neck and reverse the effects of the forward and down head action and pain that comes with that (sometimes referred to as “text neck”. This class strengthens the upper back and neck extensors. Most of this class could be done sitting at your desk as a way to help learn some new and better habits for neck health and to take a short break from looking at your devices. Try it on its own, or pair it with Episode 77.Do you need some visuals for class? I currently have a sample video class that works with these similar concepts, register to watch the class here. Our thoughts are things most of us don't think of. Why is that? Is it because thoughts are just these things we have to think? Or is there anything we can do when it comes to our thoughts? I am here bringing awareness to the thoughts we think. Because it is lie that we think we "have" to think the thoughts swirling around our overactive minds. In this episode I talk about how with the power of intention, journaling and actually following though that we can choose the thoughts that we WANT to think and NOT what we think we have to think. I know it can seem strange and seemly simple, but for our entire lives we have been thinking these thoughts. The thoughts that everyone else tells us to think. But here today we get to be the thinkers of our thoughts. The creators of our lives, with our thoughts! I am so grateful for you! Tips for New Yoga Teachers Lesson 1: Free Yoga Doesn't Equal Students

During the COVID-19 pandemic, many yoga teacher trainings moved online and went down in price, making becoming a yoga teacher more accessible than ever. That said, the market is now saturated with an abundance of yoga teachers and a limited audience. Many of you have probably started or intend to start by teaching online. You might have listened to other podcasts, blog posts or even attended a webinar looking for advice on starting your business and capturing your target audience. I'm going to be real with you for a minute. It has not been easy starting my online yoga business over the last year. Here is one takeaway from my first year of teaching online yoga. Lesson 1: Free Yoga Does Not Guarantee Students Typically, when you visit a yoga studio for the first time, they will give you a class for free. Many studios often do open house days with free classes to attract students. One of the first things I tried as a yoga teacher was making all of my classes the first month free. I advertised organically on Instagram, Facebook, Eventbrite and by word of mouth. I was also working on a fitness podcast at the time and even advertised there. In the end though, I had one student the entire month, a friend of mine. A couple other people signed up but didn't show up for their class or respond to followup invitation emails. You are going to have to work hard to find an audience and may need to think outside of the box. One suggestion I can offer is partnering with an organization that already has an audience in order to grow yours. If reading is your thing, reach out to a bookstore or library about partnering for an event. If you like coffee, try working with a local coffee shop. Think about something that interests you or fits your yoga niche and find another business or organization who might make a good fit for a partnership. I will go into specifics about what to include in your request or interest letter in lesson two. Lesson two airs on October 16, 2021.
