Tune in as Arthur's buddy Anna hops back onto the program for a deep dive into Don't Worry Darling, the 2022 psychological thriller that had been swamped in a notorious wave of media frenzy (remember the spit mystery, anyone?). But once you dig past the Hollywood hubbub, what do you get with this mindfuck-lite trip through a 1950s desert-set company town whose vision of idyllic suburbia just may be hiding dark secrets beneath the surface? Along with unpacking all of that on this episode, the discussion covers rom-com chatter that ranges from Anna's Isn't It Romantic-related story to the hosts' shared take that Set It Up is enjoyable enough while being overrated, Anna's numerous imitations of Harry Styles's “our life together” line, Arthur's hatred for the Wicked trailer, and interesting material from both the spec script and the revised script that had ultimately been left out of DWD (perhaps to its detriment). Directed by Olivia Wilde, Don't Worry Darling stars Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Chris Pine, Olivia Wilde, KiKi Layne, Gemma Chan, Nick Kroll, Sydney Chandler, Kate Berlant, Asif Ali, Douglas Smith, Timothy Simons, Ari'el Stachel, Steve Berg, and Dita Von Teese. This is not the first podcast about Don't Worry Darling. But this is one of the few that discusses the film, and its transformation from a Black Mirror-esque spec script written by Dick Van Dyke's grandsons into a beautiful but poorly paced film with a confusing message. And somehow, between those two, there was a solid, compelling script. But it was paired with a directorial intention that was fundamentally opposed to the story, and the film began to unravel from there. Florence Pugh is so good that she's great in this piece of garbage, I mean......maybe it's a good movie? If only Olivia Wilde & Katie Silberman had been more booksmart, and read some more horror before putting this film together, this might've worked out better......I mean maybe it's a good movie lol. My very special guest today is Singer & Songwriter, Emily Halpern. I regard these two things in life as highly valuable. The Gift of Laughter - I can never repay the gift of the laughter that someone shared with me. The Gift of Music I can never repay a music artist for the gift of their music, and how it makes me feel. I can never fully explain to them how life wouldn't be nearly as sweet for living without the gift of their music. Theses are gifts that I can never repay in full. I was aware of Emily Halpern's writing years before I knew who she was or had met her. Her words had made me laugh, so many countless nights watching Black-Ish, of which she was a writer and Producer from 2016 - 2017. And who could forget “Booksmart” Directed by Olivia Wilde written by Emily Halpern, Susan Vogel, Sarah Haskins and Katie Silberman? Those laughs made my cheeks sting pink. Booksmart laughs were guilty pleasure laughs for sure. I was introduced to her when I created a “Love Letter to Luqcues”. Lucques was the infamous restaurant in LA owned by Suzanne Goin and Caroline Styne, and operated by General Manager Matt Duggan. It had closed during covid, for good. I was looking for love stories on the patrons of Lucques. Matt Duggan said that I should speak to Emily Halpern, a screenwriter. And when I did, Emily Halpern had one of the sweetest love stories of all. You see, Emily had her second date with her husband Evan at Lucques, tucked away in a corner table in the bar. The way Emily tells it, They both knew they had found each other's soulmate that night. They had their wedding at Lucques. And, Their first born daughter Franny just missed her very first Sunday Super at Lucques before the Pandemic shut everything down. It's finally here. The most anticipated behind the scenes mess of a movie since...probably the Alec Baldwin thing? Don't Worry, Darling is the second feature film from Olivia Wilde from a script by her writing partner Katie Silberman, based off a script by Dick Van Dyke's grandchildren. The film features an all star cast including Florence Pugh, Harry Styles, Wilde, Nick Kroll, Gemma Chan, Kiki Layne & Chris Pine, amongst many others. It features around Pugh & Styles' married couple, who live in a seemingly idyllic 50's esque town in the middle of the desert where all the males work for Chris Pine's mysterious Victory Project. However, a tragic event causes Pugh's character Alice to start to discover the web of lies that their life is built on, leading her down a path to a frightening revelation about where they actually are. The film has been steeped in controversy recently starting with its premiere at the Venice Film Festival, as Shia LaBeauf, who was previously attached to the film in the Harry Styles part but later let go from the film, leaked a bunch of compromising information about Wilde & Styles' affair which goes against Wilde's previous reasoning for firing him. On top of that, you've also got the apparent major feud between Wilde & Pugh, as well as Styles allegedly having spit on Chris Pine at the premiere. All of this is very disappointing because it takes away from the actual film itself when it becomes all about the behind the scenes drama. Dom & Luk break down everything about the movie, the behind the scenes drama and more, only on the #talkintvpodcast --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/talkintvpodcastgmailcom/support

Olivia Wilde has long been working as an actress before stepping her foot into directing. She made a few short films and music videos, then locked her sights on the Blacklist script Booksmart by Emily Halpern & Sarah Haskins. She had screenwriter Katie Silberman rework the script (that Susanna Fogel had already changed ) into something that painted the vision she was looking for, and off she went. The film, while not a runaway success that it should've been, still did well for itself and set Wilde up as a new director with a strong voice. Join us – Pete Wright and Andy Nelson – as we conclude our Coming of Age Debuts series with Wilde's 2019 film Booksmart. We're big fans of Booksmart. While we graduated from high school a few years (read decades) before this film takes place, it's impossible not to notice all the same personalities and groups. What makes these characters stand out so well? And how much do we identify with our two protagonists Molly and Amy (played brilliantly by Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever)? The adults are interesting characters in the film, but what does it say that the one with the most time spent is Miss Fine? It's fitting, considering her scenes together with our protags. And what do we learn about the complexities of people in general as we spend time with Jared, Annabelle, and Gigi? The film stands as vibrant and alive. Wilde smartly uses slow motion in a few spots. How do those moments stand out and why those spots? All in all, this may be the highlight of an absolutely brilliant series. We love it and hope you do too. Check it out then tune in! A lot has been written about the Second Amendment to the United States constitution over the years, much of it in dispute over what the right to keep and bear arms means for individual Americans. What I'm sure we can all agree is that when this constitutional change was ratified in December of 1791, everyone attending shared a common dream that one day they would be able to see an immense Austrian man operating a belt fed machine gun like a childrens toy as he indiscriminately murders wave after wave of faceless goons. Those pioneers would be delighted to listen to this weeks podcast on the Top 5 Movie Guns if they weren't already dead, primarily of accidental gunshot wounds.A coming of age buddy tale set on the eve of graduation is a difficult setting to achieve something distinctive in but that's exactly what first time director Olivia Wilde has set out to accomplish with 2019's Booksmart. Well-worn tropes are given a modern feminine makeover by writers Emily Halpern, Sarah Haskins, Susanna Fogel, and Katie Silberman and leads Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever shine alongside an established supporting cast including Jason Sudekis, Lisa Kudrow and Will Forte. Will the Dads be woke enough to enjoy this one?The Simpsons is one of the greatest television programmes of all time. Many would say the greatest of all time in fact. And now they have the honour of being discussed by the Bad Dads. Sidey picked season 3 classic "Homer at the bat" for us to revisit and it's not long before the quotes and trivia are flowing on this icon of popular culture.
