Right before filming the latest season of White Lotus, Natasha Rothwell booked herself a silent Buddhist retreat—a move she says reflects her deep spiritual roots. In this week's episode, Lale chats with the actor and longtime traveler about returning as the character of Belinda in Mike White's hit HBO dramedy, her own relationship with wellness, and what it was like to spend six months in Thailand for the show. Natasha Rothwell plays characters who are constantly trying to improve and to better understand their desires. This season on “The White Lotus,” Rothwell, an Emmy-nominated actress, is back playing Belinda, a striving spa manager with dreams of becoming her own boss. Ambitions like these are relatable to Rothwell, who created and starred in her own show, “How to Die Alone.” But as she and her characters have learned, going after what you want often means changing your priorities and steering away from certain types of people.Today on the show, Rothwell reads Jasmine Browley's Modern Love essay, “I Decentered Men. Decentering Desire for Men Is Harder,” about the challenges and joys of putting your own needs first. And Rothwell tells Anna Martin how vision boarding has helped her center herself. Here's how to submit a Modern Love essay to The New York Times. Here's how to submit a Tiny Love Story. Dianne is out on a very special assignment so Chris is joined by guest host (and real-life SAG voter) Ian Brodsky to discuss everything from the future of James Bond to Mike White's extremely specific references. Featuring our predictions for Season 3 of The White Lotus on HBO (uh, yes, we're going to talk about what's going on with the “Will They? Won't They” Brothers). But first! So much streaming, including: The best moments from the NBC SNL50 special (also Chevy Chase was there). Our undying love for the just-wrapped first season of ABC's High Potential. A ratings update on The Night Agent and Ian's elevator pitch for why Black Doves should be your next Netflix spy fix. And some big surprises from some even bigger personalities behind some of the world's biggest IP: Kathleen Kennedy plans to step aside at Star Wars and the Broccoli family finally relinquishes the keys to the James Bond kingdom (we're pitching our Bonds for Bezos, of course). Correction: Michael Wilson is Barbara Broccoli's half brother, not stepbrother. Stepbrothers were just on the mind this week! ———

Many of us fell in love with Natasha Rothwell through her role as the hilarious Kelli in HBO's Insecure, and later sustained that love as she appeared as Belinda Lindsey in The White Lotus. Natasha is back on our screens, and this time, she's starring in a show that she also created and executive-produced. It's called How to Die Alone, and it's currently streaming on Hulu. I'm thrilled that Natasha joins us this week to chat about some of the major themes of How to Die Alone including self-sabotage, loneliness, and feeling as if you're behind in life. We also discussed the significance of having a Black, female, plus-sized main character, how the show approaches tough situations such as friendship breakups, and how Natasha is managing IRL feelings of imposter syndrome while also continuing to channel “main character energy.” About the Podcast The Therapy for Black Girls Podcast is a weekly conversation with Dr. Joy Harden Bradford, a licensed Psychologist in Atlanta, Georgia, about all things mental health, personal development, and all the small decisions we can make to become the best possible versions of ourselves. None of us necessarily expected to recommend a comics-IP property featuring Colin Farrell under pounds of prosthetic make-up -- but we all liked it, including returning guest Richard Lawson. We talked about how it surprised us, the small feature-film stories it seemed to contain, whether it should have let the real Farrell shine through, and who's the season MVP (spoiler: Cristin Milioti). Then we went Around The Dial with the new Matlock, Alex vs. America, and Ryan Murphy's take on the brothers Menendez before Richard battled at least five Cynthia Nixon performances to get a Law & Order: SVU episode into the Canon. Friends won, Cold Case lost ("....AAeeeEnNNNGhhHHHHH!"), and Erica introduced us to a hard-fought Game Time. Waddle on over to your podcast app and have a listen! GUESTS
