Social anxiety is something that all of us deal with. When we can incorporate our breath as a tool to calm, we gain confidence trusting in ourselves. Our breath is our super power and has the power to relax us so that we can accomplish anything, whether that is meeting new people, raising our hand to answer a question in class, or trying something new. Happy Day, Friend! In this podcast episode, I'm sharing four (4) myths about teaching kids mindfulness. There have been quite a few of them over the decade I've been doing this work, but I boiled it down to the top four. In knowing these myths, you can anticipate other people sharing them, and feel more confident in educating them about mindful-based social-emotional learning and educating the whole child. These myths might pop up in casual conversations with friends, parents, and teachers or they may come up when you're giving a seminar, speech, or professional development series about kids and mindfulness. In any case, you'll be ready to debunk them and appropriately educate others. I hope you gain tons of value from the episode. If so, please share with your people. Let's learn, grow, and glow together
Making Mistakes - 5 Minute Meditation for Kids: This mindfulness and breathing exercise encourages listeners to embrace their mistakes and a growth mindset. Everyone makes mistakes in life. While it may not seem like it at the time, mistakes can actually be viewed as a gift since they often help place us on a path to greatness. Mistakes are also part and parcel of growing up and the learning process associated with it. When children learn to see the value of mistakes and view them as opportunities to try again, they learn to trust themselves and gain self-confidence.Mindfulness is an important theme in 'The Paper Girls Show'. Mindfulness is something that anyone of any age can benefit from. Being able to slow down, assess your situation, and control your reaction will help you to get the outcome you want out of most situations. As adults, this is often a skill we wish we had learned earlier. How awesome would it be if we had learned how to be mindful when we were young, and experiencing so many emotions for the first time? That's why I'm so intrigued by the work that this week's guest does. Ronnie Parker is a mindfulness teacher who helps teach social emotional learning and mindfulness to young kids, and today she's here to share how her Mindfully Me Camp can help preschoolers learn these important tools. Listen in to learn more about the positive impact that learning these tools and tactics at such a young age can have, and how programs like her are achieving such amazing things.About Ronnie Parker:Ronnie Parker is a wife, local Momma, educator, mindfulness teacher, a Breathe for Change trainee, and owner of Mindful Early Learning. This episode is not a meditation, so feel free to listen in the car! In this one, I share the gratitude and mindfulness practice I recently created for myself and my children called HAPPY. Many of us have read the huge amounts of research citing service to others and gratitude as two main components of human happiness, but how do we learn to incorporate them into our busy daily lives? Sure, we can set the intention to be more grateful, but it's easy to forget about that when faced with a challenge or when our schedules become packed.I spent a lot of time thinking about this and developed a fun little acronym and journal prompt download to help us all build these habits into every single day, even the busy ones and even the ones that come with challenges.Download the PDF file for free here:https://www.purpledoorhealing.com/happyI would absolutely LOVE to hear how it works for you! Життя може бути тяжким. Коли ми стикаємось з невідомим, нам дуже легко піддатися страху. Пошук любові у наших серцях може допомогти привнести відчуття спокою та миру в наш світ, навіть якщо наразі це тільки внутрішній світ. This is a quick podcast episode about moving through stress, fear, and anxiety. I use Insight Timer with my kids. We found one called, The Tale of the Mysterious by Reuben Lowe. It's a 10 day journey for kids (and kids at heart) to realize that they can control connect with their breath and body in order to calm down. This is a powerful practice of sitting with our emotions and moving them. The “mist” is scary thoughts that we all have. It was a powerful experience to go through with both of my children and we revisit it often because we all need reminders that the mist is not real and that we can create calm by connecting to our breath and bodies.Full Show Notes, Journal Prompts & Transcript:https://www.carlacontreras.com/podcast/moving-through-stress-anxiety-and-fear-with-marcella-leePlease tag me @itscarlacontreras on Instagram so I can continue the conversation with you. Our students are under so many pressures, and taking a test can cause performance anxiety. Many students feel that they ARE their test scores when we know there are endless other factors that make up our child. Assessments can be used as a tool to determine growth in academia, but they are not the final deciding factor on a child's ability to learn. Regardless, giving a child the time to be mindful before focusing on a test can calm them so that they can answer questions thoughtfully. In Episode number 34 of the Mindful Life Podcast I share some more insights on my work with kids and a specific success story from my Kids Mindfulness Program. I introduce you to a case example, a child who has experienced much stigma and many difficulties in his short life, due to his diagnosis and his subsequent behaviours. My program has been a game changer for this child. An hour a week for him to just let go and just be, in a chaotic free, safe environment. My program is a space for kids to practice self care, to slow down and to find their calm. But most importantly, it is also a judgment free space and a space of acceptance. This is vital for these so called “difficult” kids who have experienced so much judgment through their lives, whose stories and diagnosis often label them as challenging and as hard to manage. This acceptance and putting judgments aside sends a message of respect and facilitates feelings of belonging, something many of these children unfortunately don’t often experience. What I am seeing in my work with these kids is unique and ground breaking. And I feel so privileged to be sharing the journey with these very special children as they allow the practice of Mindfulness to transform their lives If for any reason, you have found the content of todays podcast triggering or distressing in any way please consider accessing some professional support (Aust only); Telephone Counselling support *Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636 *Lifeline 131114 You can find The Mindful Life Podcast on Facebook and Instagram under the handle Mindful Life Podcast. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) encourages parents to share meditation with their children and teachers to incorporate mindfulness training into their lesson plans. The simple act of teaching children how to stop, focus, and just breathe could be one of the greatest gifts you give them. My guest, Jackie Stewart, is fascinated with the human mind and understanding how our perceptions impact our present experience. Inevitably, through studying the mind, she began to understand the interrelated nature of our shared humanity and need for connection. Hunter talks to Annaka Harris about Teaching Kids Mindfulness. What does one do when fascinated about the nature of experience itself? If you are my podcast guest, Annaka Harris, you write a children’s book, teach mindfulness to children, and write about this mystery of the universe for adults in her latest book, Conscious. Hear how she began her own mindfulness practice, how it relates to parenting her children, and get a taste of the mystery of consciousness. Some big takeaways from this episode include: 1. Best practices for sharing the power of mindfulness with kids 2. It’s okay to say “I don’t know” to our children and can in fact be beneficial 3. Getting curious about our experience can relieve suffering Annaka Harris is the author of CONSCIOUS. She is the author of the children's book I Wonder, a collaborator on the Mindful Games Activity Cards, by Susan Kaiser Greenland. This week Ariel invites yoga and meditation guide, Jana Purandevi Huberova to Imperfect Parenting Podcast to talk about meditation and mindfulness for the whole family. Ariel had a strong experience with 2 year old, Ella and yoga and Meditation, so asked Jana to create special guided meditations for both kids and for parents to ground, relax and back to themselves, and each other, amidst the chaos of life. These are the 1st in a series of meditations and mindfulness practices we will do for different ages and needs over this year. Each will be available, separate from the podcasts. This week, Jana will guide us through 4 meditations, 2 in Czech and 2 in English, made just for us. No matter our belief system, these guided meditations blend and are supplemental, allowing more space in each day for us to remember what is important.. us and calm..To read more about this topic and more, please, go to our blog for further information. And, for anyone wanting to go even deeper, join the IP Inner Circle and dive in with us. We would be delighted to hear your own rescue fog stories. As well, I will be doing a live event in the next weeks as the group grows. We will be exploring and waking up what's waiting for you.www.imperfectparenting.netHave a beautifully Imperfect day.Support the show (https://patreon.com/join/intuitivelifeprojects)
In episode #12 of the Mindful Life Podcast I talk about my Kids Mindfulness program. A relatively new program that I introduced to my suite of services in mid 2018. Kids Mindfulness is a mental health program that I designed and implemented within my local community for children aged 8-12yrs. It is a combination of Meditation and Mindfulness Education from a Buddhist perspective with its aim to teach children how to self regulate their emotions, self soothe and self manage stress. Kids Mindfulness is therapeutic in nature and it is designed to address difficulties, but the best bit is, the kids actually enjoy it. Its fun and its an opportunity to make new friends. It’s a time for kids to relax, be still, unwind. A time for kids to let go and just be…..
