The N4D Team introduce the latest mini-series on the weighty theme of more and better financing for nutrition in the run up to the Nutrition for Growth summit, an event through which national and international pledges are made towards reducing levels of malnutrition globally. In this first episode we set the scene for why this mini-series is important, locating this within current initiatives and studies intended to galvanise better financing for nutrition ahead of, during and post the N4G summit. One highly significant piece of work is the newly published World Bank Nutrition Investment Framework that we recommend as essential reading for our listeners. The N4D team also discuss some of the key messages from a policy brief on ‘more and better financing' for nutrition' that they have been working on together with a number of country nutrition specialists. This policy brief covers current financing challenges for nutrition, particularly in situations of protracted crisis, and some of the reasons for this. The policy brief will be disseminated in the build-up to the N4G summit. This introductory podcast signposts subsequent planned episodes in the mini-series, including a deep dive into the current state of financing for nutrition actions in situations of protracted crisis, through conversations with nutrition leaders from Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Niger and Yemen. We will then broaden out the series to speak with nutrition leaders from more stable contexts. From 29 September to 25 November, Earth will have a new temporary ‘mini moon'. Named 2024 PT5, the object is actually an asteroid from the Arjuna asteroid group that will be captured by Earth's gravity for 57 days. It's so small and faint that it won't be visible to the eye or even with small telescopes, but it will be visible to larger telescopes. Astrophysicist Dr Laura Driessen, from the University of Sydney, talks through the history of mini moons and what the rare discovery means.

Steve Sanders currently serves as Chief of Staff for the Kern County Superintendent of Schools (KCSOS). In his role he provides direct support to the elected Kern County Superintendent of Schools, and he oversees the Communications Division for KCSOS and its educational television station KETN, in addition to overseeing the California Living Museum (CALM) and the Kern County Network for Children. Steve has worked for KCSOS since 1998. Welcome to the first episode of our education mini series! Amanda DiGiacomo and Kyle Jones welcome Steve Sanders Chief of Staff of the Kern County Superintendent as he gave us a detailed overview of our local school districts. There are 46 local school districts here in Kern County and they discussed where and who to reach out to for resources and programs like CALM and Camp Keep. Steve was also able to explain the structure of the board of trustees and superintendents as well as their roles. They also touched on SALPA programs which were created for children with special needs.
