This week, the guys talk about what it's like trying to be a couple of groupies. While they aren't necessarily talking about trying to follow a famous band around on tour, Josh and Evan discuss how people go about joining new groups and finding new activities. The guys have always been part of groups throughout their lives, but they're learning that it's not that easy as adults. Will Josh join a support group, start a cult, or get in with a bad crowd? Will the guys come up with a great money-making app idea? Listen in to find out, and hear a Fact of the Week and apple-based "sticking it to the man" example too!

Page Turn the Largo Public Library Podcast

Hello and welcome to Episode Twenty Six of Page Turn: the Largo Public Library Podcast. After missing a month due to the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic we're back and so happy to be! I'm your host, Hannah! If you enjoy the podcast subscribe, tell a friend, or write us a review! The Spanish Language Book Review begins at 17:42 and ends 21:43 at The English Language Transcript can be found below But as always we start with Reader's Advisory! The Reader's Advisory for Episode Twenty Six is Speak No Evil by Uzodinma Iweala. If you like Speak No Evil you should also check out: Happiness, Like Water by Chinelo Okparanta, Every Kind of Wanting by Gina Frangello, and Where We Come From by Oscar Casares. My personal favorite Goodreads list Speak No Evil is on is Oooh Shiny! March 2018. Today’s Library Tidbit is all about tabletop gaming and Dungeons & Dragons. Tabletop game covers a very wide array of types of games, including chess, shogi, backgammon, mahjong, and go. However, Dungeons & Dragons specifically developed out of wargames. Wargames started as military training tools. The Prussian were the first known people to use tabletop wargaming and they did so for military training. Once the Prussian beat the French in the Franco-Prussian war wargaming became a more widely used training strategy and also spread to be a fun hobby. One of the more well known early wargames players was author H. G. Wells who created a rule book for a game called Little Wars that used toy soldiers, a large open area like a living room floor or a lawn, and spring loaded cannon to attack opponents with. Gary Gygax, a well known wargaming enthusiast, developed Dungeons & Dragons with Dave Arneson by adapting wargames by adding in fantasy elements. Some fantasy authors that influences Dungeons & Dragons include, but are very not limited to, J. R. R. Tolkien, Poul Anderson, Jack Vance, Fritz Leiber, and Lewis Carroll. Dungeons & Dragons is set up and the narrative run by a person called a Dungeon Master. This person is responsible for creating the dungeons (maps that the players go through), writing a narrative the players will be following, guiding the players using the narrative along the story path, playing the non-player characters and monsters, and oh yeah, keeping the rules. Players before starting the game role up a character sheet. A character sheet is where a player keeps track of their characters stats and inventory. Although D&D is famous for being played in person and on a shared “tabletop”, the game has a devoted online game scene in the modern day. Online D&D groups function the same as their offline counterparts with a Dungeon Master and a handful of players except instead of sharing a table, the group members meet over voice and video chat programs like Discord, Google Hangouts, Skype, or Zoom. If you're interested in playing Dungeons & Dragons online you can see if any friends have a group you could join, check out social media, and online discussion boards. Groups looking for new members or Dungeon Masters could post on D&D Beyond or the Looking For Group sub-reddit. You can also check out Facebook groups too! Several library workers here enjoy a variety of different types of tabletop gaming and we hope that if you’re interested that you look into trying out one using an online service. And now it's time for Book Traveler, with Victor: Intro: Welcome to a new episode of Book Traveler. My name is Victor and I am a librarian at the Largo Public Library. Today I am going to talk to you about a fiction book that we have in the Spanish collection entitled La Fruta del Borrachero by Ingrid Rojas Contreras. Synopsis: In this captivating debut, Ingrid Rojas uses by her own life to talk about the passage from childhood to adulthood of two powerful narrative voices. An exuberant story that, framed in one of the most convulsive times of Colombia, sheds light on the unexpected ties that can be born...

Plus or Minus: The Fudge RPG podcast

I start off by responding to a listener question left on our voicemail at (661) 368-5306 by Johnathan Snyder, who is also one of my Patreon supporters. Hey, this is Jonathan author of Blood in Space. Hey, I was just listening to your last podcast about the damage factors and just wanted to bring up your response about adding different things in with the damage factors, like taking consideration of a fantasy type game where you know certain things are more immune to certain types of attacks, a lot like what the D20 system does, I was wondering what your thoughts are on how something like that could be implemented. I know I put together one a while ago. But yeah, that's just pretty much my thought that came to mind when I was listening to your podcast and was wanting to see if you ever want to cover your opinion on modify the damage factors to take any more fantasy setting with monster immunity and so forth like that. So yeah, thanks. I really appreciate your podcast and what you doing as University and I really hope you continue up. I'm continuing to support you and look forward to your next podcast. This is Johnson. I'll talk to you later. Bye.Transcribed by Google Voice cleaned up by Me.I also talk a bit about the Shadowrun Runners Hub and Emerald Grid, which are really neat solutions to the Looking For Group problem faced by gamers. I floated the idea of a similar setup for Fudge, but as many people pointed out the community isn't quite there yet. Still, I might try something in the vein in the future. Then the episode moves on to cover some considerations for running long term campaigns with the Fudge system. In the last podcast I asked if folks liked terms like Fudge Master instead of just Game Master, and alot of the feedback showed that there was a real blowback against not just that, but also things like calling your game Fudge X or X Fudge and trying to be cute. I think alot of this has to do with the overall criticism the system receives that its more suited for one-shots and convention games than for serious play. In this episode I discuss the +1 Problem, the issues with the default XP system, and ways to allow for character development without focusing on simply raising attributes and skills. I also throw in a new money-instead-of-XP idea I've been working on. Please reach out to me with your Fudge (or Fate/Icons) Pages, Podcasts, Content, and Blogs. I'm going to create Podcast, Resource, and Blogroll pages for them to act as a central resource. On this episode of The AIE Podcast... AIE is in ALL the games A few big things happened in WOW this week Feast with your LOTRO Kin! The mysteries of Genesis Prime are no longer a mystery And we get to guest on our own podcast All that and more coming up right now... Podcast Audio Raw Video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DxxL-5uhxAM AIE General First up, we want to give a shout-out to Mefe, who has published an album of Christmas music. There are five Christmas carols, each recorded in a different style using different instruments, and sung by some very talented kids. The album is called Light of Life, and you can find it on iTunes and Bandcamp. (Zod: I gave them a listen this afternoon, and they're very good.) If you're a PlayStation 4 player, Syn started a thread in the community forums for everyone to post their PSN handle. Quite a few people have posted theirs, so jump in there and start gaming with AIE on your PS4 We are halfway through NaNoWriMo, the yearly challenge to write a 50-thousand--word novel in 30 days, and a number of AIE members are plugging right along on their books. If you're taking the NaNoWriMo challenge, let us know, and if you finish your novel and want to offer it up for AIE members to read, send us a link! Of course WoW is the big news this week, but they're not the only game out there. There are hundreds of games, from big MMOs to Facebook games, to little mini mobile games, and AIE plays them all. To find people playing your favorite game, check out the Minor League Games subforum in the Community section of the forums. AIE members are also all around the world, and the next best thing to playing games with AIE, is hanging out in real life. AIE has a page at Meetup.com where you, yes you, can arrange your own meetups with other AIE members. Whether it's playing some board games, or grabbing a meal and a movie, or getting together at a major convention, Meetup.com is our real life Looking For Group! AIE World of Warcraft Major kudos to Thuggs the AIE hunter for taming Gara. Gara is a cool-looking spirit wolf that came out with Warlords of Draenor, and taming it is a lot more involved than just tossing it a few scooby snacks. There's an epic quest line that takes you all over Draenor. It's probably the most involved hunter beast taming in the game. So again, way to go Thuggs, Thanks to Heirbuch for posting this reminder - Blizzard has stopped characters from earning rested experience until you log into them at least once, so if you have some lvl 90s parked someplace waiting their turn to go into the Dark Portal, be sure to log in on them at least once. If you're a little confused about Garrisons, and especially which remote outposts to choose, AIE member Miy posted a link to a “How to choose garrison outposts for leveling” guide. that walks you through all the choices for remote outposts and suggests which one you might want to pick, if your focus is on leveling. And finally, if you didn't know, Blizzard has removed the feature that awarded gold to guild banks when members are out questing and looting mobs. Because of this, we have no new gold flowing into our guild banks. We've always allowed our guild banks to be used to cover a certain amount of member's repair bills each day, but with the increased expenses from everyone leveling, and with no gold coming in, we've decided to decrease the limit you can use for repairs each day, to try to make the gold stretch a little longer before it's all gone. AIE The Old Republic Up for Ask a Star Wars guildie is our very own head honcho of SWTOR, Max! Find out just how many games this very busy guy plays, when he finds time to sleep and just what kind of pizza he thinks is the best! Plus, there is plenty time to ask your own question. Also, they are looking for new Blood- Victims- Ummmm, sign ups for this always fun thread on the forums. AIE Lord of the Rings Online AIE in LOTRO is planning a Thanksgiving feast,

We've got an extra-long episode to keep you guys going during the break.  Join Paris, The Business, LLC, and me - along with three interviews with people who are in non-manogamous relationships -- as we delve into one of the most requested episode topics in Mating Habits history: What's up with all these open relationships and polyamorous folks?  The Business and I have a deep, theological discussion about the origin of the Smurfs, the existence of Smurf ejaculate, and a UNICEF ad that blew my mind.  Paris tells us about how she and The Business have stepped outside their comfort zone and joined a kickball team - what the what? Then, I welcome Vee, Jamie, and Josh to the show, where they open up about their current and past experiences with non-manogamy.  Hopefully, what they share will inform, enlighten, and entertain you guys as much as it did me.
