Liverpool have quickly got to put the frustration of dropping two points in the Premier League on Saturday behind them because on Tuesday they travel to Porto for their second match in Group B of the Champions League. The Reds got off to the perfect start when they beat AC Milan 3-2 at Anfield two weeks ago. And they'll be confident of making it six points from six given they've had Porto's number in recent years. However, the Portuguese side did earn an excellent 0-0 draw at Atletico Madrid on matchday one, and like Liverpool, they've made an unbeaten start to the season. So to learn more about Porto, Paul Wheelock picks up the phone to Portuguese football expert Alex Goncalves (follow him on Twitter @Aljeeves). They talk Diogo Jota, who will be facing his former club on Tuesday, as well as Marko Grujic, who will be doing the same, plus two midfielders Liverpool were linked with in the summer, and the star forward who came close to joining Everton.Get exclusive podcasts direct to your inbox every week for FREE by joining the Blood Red Club. It’s the morning after the night before and the Blood Red podcast is here to hold an inquest into Liverpool’s embarrassing 7-2 defeat at Aston Villa – and reveal what business, if any, will be done at Anfield on transfer deadline day. With number one Alisson out for up to six weeks, and his deputy Adrian struggling badly at Villa Park, the Liverpool ECHO’s LFC correspondent Paul Gorst joins Ian Doyle, Joe Rimmer and host Guy Clarke to answer the question as to whether Jurgen Klopp will make a last-dash move for another goalkeeper. And what about outs with Xherdan Shaqiri, Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic all being linked with moves away? The panel talk that, too, but only after starting with why exactly it went so, so wrong against Villa. Rhian Brewster is on his way to Sheffield United and the young striker could be joined out of the Liverpool exit door by Xherdan Shaqiri, Marko Grujic and Harry Wilson before Monday’s transfer deadline. Nearly six weeks since that glorious weekend in Madrid, the best team in Europe are back in action on Thursday night when Liverpool make the short trip to Tranmere Rovers for their first pre-season friendly of the summer. So what should Reds fans heading over to Prenton Park expect? That's the first talking point of another brilliant edition of the Poetry in Motion podcast, hosted as ever by Neil Fitzmaurice and featuring Paul Gorst and Caoimhe O'Neill. There's two highly rated 17-year-old Dutch defenders, there's a Colombian left-back who could be sensing an opportunity now that Alberto Moreno's left, and there is Rhian Brewster, whose role next season comes under big discussion. Fitzy also explains why he's worried about Naby Keita and asks why Liverpool have been linked with big-money moves left, right and centre even though it is becoming clear what the club's transfer policy will be this month and next. Also on the agenda is Jurgen Klopp's faith in Marko Grujic, the importance of Dejan Lovren and Simon Mignolet and whether the duo could and should stay, finding new superlatives for Virgil van Dijk, and how good it would be if the Dutch defender got his hands on the Ballon d'Or. But the talk drifts back to transfers, what the signing of Sepp van den Berg and imminent arrival of Harvey Elliott says, and why it goes to show that Klopp, Michael Edwards and the rest know exactly what they're doing. The good news: James Pearce and Ian Doyle are back on the Blood Red podcast after their well-deserved breaks following Liverpool's glorious Champions League final victory. The bad news: It's the last time the pair will appear on the pod together as ECHO employees given Ian is off on Friday, which is James' last day as our Liverpool FC correspondent, both home and away. Caoimhe O'Neill, like us all, has not taken the news well, but that doesn't stop her from appearing alongside our Reds reporting duo for what is, as always, a brilliant listen. It's a listen that starts with the announcement that Marko Grujic will be returning to Hertha Berlin on loan. The panel discuss what it means for the midfielder's Liverpool future before turning their thoughts to the Reds stars currently participating at the Copa America and Africa Cup of Nations, and the headaches that could bring Jurgen Klopp once the season kicks in. Of particular interest for James, Caoimhe and Ian is Naby Keita, who they believe has a very difficult decision to make. Also on the agenda is Danny Ings' completing his permanent move to Southampton and whether that adds extra weight to the argument that Klopp needs to sign another attacker. Pep Guardiola's tribute to Anfield is then discussed, as is the opportunity for further trophies before the year is out, before Ian and James sign off together for the last time. Fast-forward a few days and it will be all systems go as Liverpool start their final push to win the Premier League and the Champions League. But for now, it's the calm before the storm. So that's allowed our latest Blood Red panel, led by Ian Doyle and featuring Joe Rimmer, Theo Squires and Caoimhe O'Neill, to do something a little different for your essential Monday listen - and that's a listener Q&A. On the agenda are the futures of Marko Grujic, Harry Wilson and Dejan Lovren, as well as the players who could be arriving at and leaving Anfield this summer, and those with the best chance of rising through the ranks. There's a lot of talk about Philippe Coutinho, and praise for Adam Lallana, Joe nearly loses it about the FA Cup, Theo is contrary throughout, Caoimhe shows off her signing voice, while Ian - nearly - name drops. Oh, and there's some questions about cheese, too. Enjoy. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy

Tonight is Liverpool’s first trip to Belgrade since October 1973 when they suffered the first of two defeats to Red Star to exit the European Cup.They proved to be a watershed moment for legendary manager Bill Shankly, who changed the club’s approach to European football after those nights. But while it’s unlikely the events of this evening will have such a profound effect on the course of Liverpool’s footballing history, it is a big match for Jurgen Klopp’s side. They top Group C after sweeping aside Red Star 4-0 at Anfield two weeks ago and, with Paris Saint-Germain taking on Napoli later on tonight, victory for Liverpool could see them move a big step closer to qualifying for the knockout stages. But will it be another procession against Red Star given the atmosphere awaiting them at the Marakana and given the 1991 European champions' record in front of their passionate supporters? To answer those questions, and many more, including Liverpool's decision to leave Xherdan Shaqiri at home, Paul Wheelock speaks to Belgrade-based sports journalist Nebojša Marković.Nebojša also talks Liverpool’s two Serbian players, Marko Grujic and Lazar Markovic, before you hear from our Liverpool FC correspondent James Pearce.James is over in Belgrade for the ECHO and, to round off this Preview podcast, he brings us all the big talking points from Klopp's pre-match press conference. Champions League football is back at Anfield on Wednesday night - and the clash with Red Star Belgrade will be special for one Liverpool player in particular.Marko Grujic is a Red Star fan who grew up in Belgrade and rose through the ranks of his hometown club before Jurgen Klopp made the midfielder his first signing as Liverpool manager in January 2016.Grujic is currently on loan with Bundesliga high flyers Hertha Berlin, but as he tells our Liverpool FC correspondent James Pearce in an exclusive interview, he is hoping to be back at Anfield for the match. The 22-year-old speaks about how the loan is going and the latest on his fitness after his impressive start to life in Germany was halted by an ankle injury.Grujic also shares his memories of growing up, and then playing for Red Star, and what it means to the 1991 European Cup winners to be competing in the Champions League proper for the first time.He also tells us what Liverpool can expect on Wednesday night - and in the return encounter between the teams in Belgrade on November 6.And a really enjoyable chat ends with Marko making a bit of a revelation.
We welcomed former Liverpool youngster and current Cardiff City defender Lee Peltier into the ECHO’s studio for our latest podcast. After a trip down Memory Lane with the show’s co-host Paul Gorst, Lee tells the tale of a brilliant career that at the age of 31, now sees him playing in the Premier League for the first time with the promoted Bluebirds. It is a career that started at Liverpool, and while he never appeared for his boyhood club in the top flight, the handful of appearances the Toxteth lad did make were eventful to say the least. From a seven-goal League Cup thriller on his surreal debut at Anfield to a Champions League bow in one of the most intimidating stadiums in Europe, Lee looks back on his 10 years with the Reds and explains what Rafa Benitez was like to work for and what it was like to appear alongside the likes of Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher and the best player he has seen, Steven Gerrard. His final appearance in a Liverpool shirt was unforgettable for the wrong reasons but the experience has served him well since leaving the club for the culture shock that was Yeovil TownLee used his spell at Yeovil to refocus and he went on to play for Huddersfield Town, became Sven Goran Eriksson’s first signing at Leicester City, captained Leeds United, before being reunited with Neil Warnock at Cardiff.Warnock will never be well liked by Reds fans after his spats with Benitez but Lee reveals why he is so successful at getting clubs promoted and the big difference the Bluebirds have found between the Championship and the Premier League.Lee also talks the current Liverpool crop, including why the sky’s the limit for Trent Alexander-Arnold and why Marko Grujic, who was on loan at Cardiff last season, has a big future. And there’s also two amazing transfer tells that underline the madness that can go on behind the scenes when you’re a footballer.
