"I don't know what you've been told. This white savior trope is getting old!" This week we head to basic training with the wonderful Shayna of The Geekdown Podcast to discuss the 1994 flop, Renaissance Man. That's right, before Beyonce, there was Danny Devito, Marky Mark Wahlberg, and Stacy "I'll take my grits plain with salt" Dash in this half hearted military comedy. Between Khalil Kain being set up as a secret crack dealer and the Shakespeare rap written by Wahlberg, there's a lot of nonsense to get through. We also get into what "two bits" exactly is and if Stacy Dash was ever really one of us. Shayna is awesome and so is her podcast The Geekdown which you can find on Twitter @thegeekdown and on their website https://www.villains.wtf/ As always, find us at @white_pod on Twitter and at whitepeoplewontsaveyoupod@gmail.com We'll be back next week with the 2000 Disney Channel Original Movie, The Color of Friendship.

Gjafakortaappsins.

In this episode we are livin' the life with Miljenko Matijevic of Steelheart. We catch up with Steelheart's main man Miljenko to talk about his career, the new live album, and what Steelheart fans can expect in 2019. In 1990 when Steelheart finally got their shot to hit the rock scene, the band embodied everything you would want from a band in that era. They had the look, catchy songs, emotional ballads, screeching guitars, energetic live shows, and a singer named Miljenko Matijevic with a multi-octave range that would make your head spin. Through the journey, Steelheart ended up with a varied history. The band had a couple of hit songs of off 2 amazing albums and then quickly fell off the face of the earth after a fluke stage accident. Miljenko rebuilt the band for a stint in 1996, was involved in the movie Rock Star (playing the voice of Marky Mark Wahlberg) in 2001 and then returned to the rock scene for good in 2006. In 2010, Miljenko even did a stint being the lead singer for The Doors. After releasing the acclaimed Through Worlds of Stardust in 2017, Steelheart is back with a live CD/DVD called Rock ‘n Milan. Miljenko Matijevic tells his Growin’ Up Rock story by sharing his humble beginnings, move to America, his start in music, influences, how Steelheart became a MTV smash, handling adversity of the music business, coming back into the scene through movies/TV, success that being a hit in Asia brought and what the future has yet to offer. Miljenko was very transparent and passionate throughout the conversation. You will enjoy the conversation but to truly appreciate everything that Steelheart has to offer, we encourage you to see them live. The experience is energetic and the musicianship is impressive. This week, chug some Maalox and get ready for THE BIG HIT, the 1998 action-comedy starring "Marky" Mark Wahlberg, Lou Diamond Phillips, Christina Applegate as well as Captain Sisko, Bokeem Woodbine and, in what must have been a dry year for him, Elliott Gould. It's a movie about a guy who kills people for a living, but can't even stand up to the video store clerk. We thought it was hilarious when we were younger, but how does it hold up now? Time to get out your cans of V05, the Max Factor mascara, and tune into See Hear Podcast. For episode 35, Bernard, Tim and Maurice discussed 2001’s “Rock Star” starring Marky-Mark Wahlberg (and his metal bunch) and Jennifer Anniston. Set in the eighties (of course), Wahlberg stars as a singer in a hair metal tribute band, and then finds himself becoming the lead singer of the real band he’s paying tribute to. He’s living the dream……or is he?????? The crew discuss the Hollywood definition of danger, American film maker’s perceptions of the English, the film’s attempt at subtext, machismo with lipstick, where this film compares to other movies about bands, is hair metal real metal, and of course…..following your dreeeeeaaaammmmm. We wonder if John Waters had not already done so, should this film have been called Hairspray? As per usual, the crew had a blast raising our hands and banging our heads. Put away your Ratt records for an hour, and give the show a listen.
